Neil Armstrong was born in 1930 in Ohio and was the oldest of three children. He had a career as a naval aviator and test pilot for rockets, coming within 18 kilometers of leaving the Earth's atmosphere. In 1969, Armstrong was part of the Apollo 11 mission that made him and Buzz Aldrin the first men to walk on the moon. Armstrong died in 2012 at the age of 82.
