This document provides the agenda and instructions for an in-class essay assignment in an EWRT 211 class. It includes:
- An agenda with topics to discuss like the quick review and in-class essay #5
- Information for students who need to register for EWRT 1A, reserving spots in classes
- Instructions for the in-class essay, including having a blue book, outline, pen/pencil choice, and taking time to edit
- The essay prompt asking students to discuss how they experience both privilege and marginalization in society and how it affects them
- Homework assigned which is to read the next essay assignment and write paragraphs analyzing writing skills learned and still needing work.
3. If you have not yet
registered for EWRT 1A

5. Introduce the concepts of marginalization and privilege. Define them. Explain in your words.
Your refined thesis: Who you are and how you are in the margins and how you are privileged. What is the
outcome on you as a person?
• As a white man, I experience many social privileges; however, as a gay man, I have also learned to
adjust my social life to reduce marginalization.

situations.

have deliberately chosen to downplay my sexual orientation in most public situations.
Conclude by extending your insights to contemporary society. How do you measure up in society? Are you
making the best of your life?

usage, revising and editing skills, or citations and
other MLA skills.
– Write a well-developed paragraph about how your
writing has changed as a result of what you have
learned in class. Remember to provide specific
evidence for your claims.
– Write a well-developed paragraph about what you'd
still like to work on concerning your writing. What are
you going to focus on in 1A and beyond?
