NCC was established in 1948 to develop leadership and discipline among Indian youth. It has expanded to over 13 lakh cadets across army, navy and air force wings. NCC aims to develop character and motivate youth to join the armed forces. Cadets undergo training in drills, weapons handling, map reading and more. They are also involved in social service activities. Upon completing certification requirements which include attendance and camp attendance, cadets can receive the 'A', 'B' or 'C' certificates. NCC helps prepare youth for leadership roles and reserves vacancies for cadets in armed forces training academies.
