Activities
Drill
Cadets must be made to
understand the aim and
purpose of teaching drill. It
emphasis on bearing,
marching, saluting and arms
drill.
Weapon Training
Cadets generally take interest
in weapon and firing.
Activities and Training of NCC
The training is mostly carried out
in schools and colleges by the
cadets.
Drill, shooting, Physical fitness,
map reading, First aid,
Gliding/Flying, boat pulling,
sailing and camp training covering
basic of military training in Army,
Navy and Air Force.
The objective of the training is to
install discipline and personality
development of the candidate.
Adventure Training
Adventure activities have been
incorporated in NCC training with the aim
of inculcating and strengthening leadership
traits amongst the cadets. These activities
in NCC can be broadly divided into the
following.
1. Land based - Mountaineering, Rock
Climbing, Trekking.
2. Water based - Sailing expedition, White
Water Rafting, Scuba Diving, River
Crossing.
3. Air based - Parasailing.

Ranks In NCC
• Cadets who join the NCC are also given ranks according
to their merit and seniority.
• The ranks are similar in all the Divisions.
• The cadet rankings only extend up to the level of NCOs
and they need not salute each other (except coming to
attention when standing before a Senior).
• The ranked cadets are known as Cadet NCOs. The Junior
Division and Junior Wing do not have ranks above
Sergeant Major.
• The Sergeant Major of a troop is known as a Troop
Sergeant.
During camps, ranks of Regimental Sergeant Major
(RSM) and Regimental Quarter-Master Sergeant
(RQMS) are used.
• Ranks in the NCC (Senior Division & Senior Wing);

Given to NCC Cadets Army :
Thirty-two vacancies in every regular course
of the Indian Military Academy (IMA) are
reserved for NCC ‘C’ certificate-holders who
have passed the CDSE and have been
declared successful by the Services Selection
Board. They have a distinct advantage during
training. A separate merit list is prepared for
NCC cadets with ’C’ certificate. The NCC
Special Entry Scheme offers Short Service
Commission of 5 years ( non-technical ) in the
Indian Army to graduates (50% aggregate )
with ‘C’ certificate. You will be deputed for
training at the OTA, Chennai.

Navy: The Indian Navy offers Permanent Commission in the
Executive Branch to graduates with NCC ‘C’ certificate.
Eligibility: Unmarried male graduates (. BE/BSc (Phys & Maths) with
Naval Wing Senior Division NCC ‘C’ certificate.
Selection: SSB interview/test and medical examination.
Approximately six selected candidates undergo the naval orientation
course at the Naval Academy, Goa, followed by professional training
at Naval Academy units/ships/establishments.
Air Force : The Indian Air Force Offers Permanent Commission in
the Flying Branch to science graduates with NCC ‘C’ certificate.
Eligibility : Unmarried male graduates (BSc with physics and/or
maths) and a ‘C’ certificate of the NCC air wing.
• Permanent Commission. A permanent Commission
means a career in the Army till you retire. For a
Permanent Commission, you have to join the National
defence Academy ( NDA) Or the Indian Military Academy
(IMA).
• Short Service Commission. The Indian Army has a
wonderful alternative career for all those of you who
aspire to serve the Nation for a few years. It is called
Short service Commission. It gives you the option of
joining the Army and serving in it as an Officer for Five
years.
• For Joining Armed Forces as Officers
• As Regular officers in Indian Army. 32 vacancies reserved for NCC ‘C’
Certificate holders for every course, i.e.… 64 seats each year irrespective
of merit in SSB.
• As Short Service Commissioned Officers in the Indian Army. NCC ‘C’
Certificate holders are exempted from appearing in written Examination
(UPSC exam). 50 vacancies are reserved in each course i.e.… 100 seats for
each year.
• As Regular Officers in Indian Navy. Six vacancies are reserved in each
course i.e.… 12 seats per year for NCC ‘C’ Certificate(Naval Wing) holders.
They must have passed BSc(Physics and Maths) or BE, are 19 to 24 years of
age and are deemed fit to undergo training in Naval Academy, Goa by the
Services Selection Board (SSB). Such candidates are exempted from
appearing in the CDS Examination conducted by UPSC.
• As Regular Officers in Indian Air Force. 10% of all available seats are
reserved for NCC ‘C’ Certificate (Air Wing) holders including Pilot courses.
They need NOT appear for UPSC Exam.
Indian Army Benefits TO NCC
Certificate Holders
• Five percent of marks are added to
NCC ‘A’ Certificate holders on overall
marks scored by the candidate in
Physical and written Examination.
• Similarly Eight percent marks are added
to ‘B’ Certificate holders. These are
applicable for Soldier (GD), Tech, Clerk,
SKT and Nursing Assistant categories.
• In addition NCC ‘C’ Certificate holders
are completely exempted from
appearing in CEE (Common Entrance
Examination) for Soldier GD category.
As far as Soldier Clerk/SKT/Tech/NA are
concerned, they will not be exempted
from part-I of the written exam, but
10% bonus marks will be awarded of
the total marks earned in the written
exam for overall placement in the merit
list.
• It is clarified that if a candidate is both a
son of an ex-serviceman and an NCC
Certificate holder, he is entitled to only
one type of concession.
• Indian Navy Benefits TO NCC Certificate Holders
• Navy. Weightage of following additional marks is given
to NCC Certificate holders for recruitment in the Navy :-
• Direct Entry Sailor(MER), Artificer Apprentices Diploma
Holder
(i) ‘A’ Certificate – 22
