The Effect Of Work Relationships On Organizational Culture And Commitment.Sage HR
We’ve known for a while now how important work relationships are.
For years, item 10 on Gallup’s Q12 Meta-Analysis for engagement has been “Do you have a best friend at work?”. Work friendships, says Gallup, are linked statistically to retention. They’ve noted that employees with a best friend at work are:
- 43% more likely to report having received praise or recognition for their work.
- 37% more likely to report that someone at work encourages their development.
- 35% more likely to report coworker commitment to quality.
Today we are releasing our latest Workforce Mood Tracker report, which underlines and confirms Gallup’s findings, and also reveals some exciting new insights on both work friendships and the power of including peers in service anniversary celebrations.
This Fall 2014 edition of our survey of U.S. workers looks closely at the topic of work friendships and also examines the effectiveness of years of service/anniversary programs. We examined the scaling impact of work friendships and we asked workers how those relationships can best be leveraged through years of service programs to help increase retention, engagement and affective commitment.
The results are worth checking out.

A survey of 600 American workers who are working from home, as well as 305 managers, all adults whose jobs can be performed from home and who are currently working from home during the pandemic, was conducted by Advanis from January 18th-26th, 2021. Details are available upon request.
"Freelancing in America” is the most comprehensive study of the independent workforce. Commissioned by Upwork and Freelancers Union, the sixth annual study, which surveyed more than 6,000 U.S. workers over the age of 18, estimates that 57 million Americans freelance and that more people than ever see freelancing as a long-term career path. This year’s study also revealed that a 53% majority of Gen Z workers (ages 18-22) freelanced - the highest freelance participation rate of any age bracket since FIA’s 2014 launch.
“Freelancing in America” is the most comprehensive study of the independent workforce. Commissioned by Upwork and Freelancers Union, this study surveyed more than 6,000 U.S. workers. In its fifth annual year, findings show Americans are spending more than 1 billion hours per week freelancing. Beyond quantifying the amount of freelancing happening, new insights delve into why people are increasingly choosing to work this way.

“Did you know that approximately 10,000 people will retire each day? This means 43 percent of the current workforce will retire in the next decade,” stated Steve Dobberowsky, Principal, Thought Leadership & Advisory Services at Cornerstone.
There are many challenges that government agencies face today, such as shrinking budgets and the Baby Boomer retirements. So, how are HR professionals adopting a talent management strategy that will drive positive results in this day and age?
In this training with GovLoop, we'll examine how the workforce is rapidly changing and the challenges and solutions that HR professionals are dealing with - including developing a Unified Talent Management strategy.

PeoplePerHour has embarked on its first comprehensive semi-annual self-employment report to determine the underlying market drivers and labour trends in this burgeoning segment of the labour force. Our analysis is two-fold in that we prepare an exhaustive questionnaire that drills down into the socio-economic aspects of self-employment both at home in the UK, and our broader global self-employed marketplace. The second component of our research involves a deep data-drive into our user-population to determine aspects such as average project duration, income, industry and average hours worked.

Long‐term unemployment has reached historic highs in the United States in recent years. Currently, nearly 40 percent of unemployed workers have been out of work for six months or longer, compared to a high of 25 percent in the 1980s recession. Lengthy periods of joblessness profoundly affect the economic and social resilience of workers and their families. Long‐term unemployment erodes assets, diminishes reemployment possibilities and significantly reduces lifetime wages. Additionally, the longterm unemployed face higher rates of family instability, mental and physical health problems.

"Freelancing in Australia: 2015" is the only study of its kind that quantifies the Australian independent workforce. How many Australians are freelancing? Why? And what is the outlook for freelancing in Australia? This study, conducted by an independent research firm and commissioned by Upwork, surveyed more than 1,000 Australian workers to answer these questions and more. Results showed that nearly 4.1 million people did freelance work in the past year, driven first and foremost by the lure of a more flexible lifestyle.
In 2012, trust in financial services was at 43 percent on a global basis. In 2016, global trust in this industry is at 51 percent – an 8-point increase over this five-year period, the most of any industry the barometer surveys.
Financial services, however, is still the least trusted industry we survey. Trust is too fragile, and today’s financial services climate is too unpredictable for companies to rest on their laurels. The industry needs to continue to be dynamic and double-down on trust building solutions.

2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
