Learn how to deliver software like Pivotal and Google.
In this one-day program, Pivotal and Google share how we deliver software applications. By demonstrating the capabilities of a cloud-native software organization, we’ll share the promises Pivotal Cloud Foundry can help you keep when combined with industry-leading services and infrastructure using Google Cloud Platform (GCP).
We built Pivotal Cloud Foundry so you can deliver software with increased velocity and reduced risk. Together we will share how to make the principles of Google’s Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) achievable on Pivotal Cloud Foundry. Google and Pivotal collaborated to make Pivotal Cloud Foundry a reliable place for your applications to live.
The day will open with an introduction to Pivotal, Google, and our shared partner ecosystem. Pivotal will share how culture and technology combine to reinforce each other. We will go hands-on to show you how easy it is to develop applications with Spring Boot, integrate with Google Cloud services, and use Concourse to automate shipping applications to Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
In the afternoon, we’ll show you how Pivotal Cloud Foundry operators can empower development teams by enabling GCP integrations in their Pivotal Cloud Foundry environment. We’ll then focus on the developer experience of integrating applications with GCP’s powerful services.

Modernizing the Analytics and Data Science Lifecycle for the Scalable Enterpr...Data Con LA
Data Con LA 2020
Description
It’s no secret that the roots of Data Science date back to the 1960’s and were first mainstreamed in the 1990’s with the emergence of Data Mining. This occurred when commercially affordable computers started offering the horsepower and storage necessary to perform advanced statistics to scale.
However, the words “to scale” have evolved over time. The leap to “Big Data” is only one serial aspect of growth. Beyond the typical 1-off studies that catalyzed the field of Data Mining, Data Science now fulfills enterprise and multi-enterprise use cases spanning much broader and deeper data sets and integrations. For example, AI and Machine Learning frameworks can interoperate with a variety of other systems to drive alerting, feedback loops, predictive frameworks, prescriptive engines, continual learning, and more. The deployment of AI/ML processes themselves often involves integration with contemporary DevOps tools.
Now segue to SEAL – the Scalable Enterprise Analytic Lifecycle. In this presentation, you’ll learn how to cover the major bases of a modern Data Science projects – and Citizen Data Science as well – from conception, learning, and evaluation through integration, implementation, monitoring, and continual improvement. And as the name implies, your deployments will be performant and scale as expected in today’s environments.

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

zkStudyClub - Reef: Fast Succinct Non-Interactive Zero-Knowledge Regex ProofsAlex Pruden
This paper presents Reef, a system for generating publicly verifiable succinct non-interactive zero-knowledge proofs that a committed document matches or does not match a regular expression. We describe applications such as proving the strength of passwords, the provenance of email despite redactions, the validity of oblivious DNS queries, and the existence of mutations in DNA. Reef supports the Perl Compatible Regular Expression syntax, including wildcards, alternation, ranges, capture groups, Kleene star, negations, and lookarounds. Reef introduces a new type of automata, Skipping Alternating Finite Automata (SAFA), that skips irrelevant parts of a document when producing proofs without undermining soundness, and instantiates SAFA with a lookup argument. Our experimental evaluation confirms that Reef can generate proofs for documents with 32M characters; the proofs are small and cheap to verify (under a second).

Climate Impact of Software Testing at Nordic Testing DaysKari Kakkonen
My slides at Nordic Testing Days 6.6.2024
Climate impact / sustainability of software testing discussed on the talk. ICT and testing must carry their part of global responsibility to help with the climat warming. We can minimize the carbon footprint but we can also have a carbon handprint, a positive impact on the climate. Quality characteristics can be added with sustainability, and then measured continuously. Test environments can be used less, and in smaller scale and on demand. Test techniques can be used in optimizing or minimizing number of tests. Test automation can be used to speed up testing.
Observability Concepts EVERY Developer Should Know -- DeveloperWeek Europe.pdfPaige Cruz
Monitoring and observability aren’t traditionally found in software curriculums and many of us cobble this knowledge together from whatever vendor or ecosystem we were first introduced to and whatever is a part of your current company’s observability stack.
While the dev and ops silo continues to crumble….many organizations still relegate monitoring & observability as the purview of ops, infra and SRE teams. This is a mistake - achieving a highly observable system requires collaboration up and down the stack.

2. Events have become the life blood of the
modern real-time enterprise
Events need flow freely and easily, across every
environment and component of the digital
enterprise.
3. Event mesh is an architectural layer that routes
events from producers to consumers in a flexible,

CORE MESSAGING
Moving towards the intelligent era / some may even say it‘s already here, just not equally distributed (“The future is already here – it's just not evenly distributed.“ The Economist, December 4, 2003” - William Gibson)
rise of ML and AI, intelligent bots (e.g. Google Duplex – passed the Touring test?)
IoT: smart devices & sensors everywhere creating unprecedented loads of data
Big data technologies and distributed computing needed to handle this data and create actionable insights
New technologies: Blockchain
Today’s business leaders are faced with permanent and accelerated change in business and technologies.
· In this competitive environment with blurring industry boarders, it is more important than ever for companies
o to focus on their core business on one hand,
o but differentiate themselves from their competitors and
o provide products and services that deliver immediate value to their customers on the other hand.
· Emerging technologies such as machine learning, Internet of Things (IoT), artificial intelligence (AI), and blockchain are getting woven into our daily lives.
· Customer, employees and business partners are used to these and therefor they rapidly evolve market demands, shift customer expectations, reduce barriers to entry for competitors, and introduce new business models — and, in some cases, having impact on entire industries.
· To stay ahead, businesses need the capability to adapt themselves in this fast moving, personalized and connected world.
· But to keep the competitive edge it is essential to start your digital transformation and become a true intelligent enterprise.
· This is where SAP Cloud Platform comes into the game by offering the business and technical capabilities to act agile on upcoming market needs and changing market demands and get an intelligent Enterprise
And that’s where Solace comes in.

SAP delivers the application functionality, and Solace keeps the data flowing.
Additionally, their customers can benefit by installing Solace to connect their SAP and non-SAP applications including applications that may run at other cloud providers.
As SAP’s cloud business grows, Solace will be at the center of it all – moving information between systems, and keeping the view of each business up to date and accurate.
