Evaluation 4
Who would be the audience for your media product?
BBFC Rating
The BBFC stands for the British Board of Film Classification. This is an independent,
non-government body which rates and classifies movies, on screen computer games
and videos. The ratings range from “U” meaning universal, where by it is suitable for
anyone of the age over 4 and “18” which is only suitable for adults to view.
After looking at our thriller altogether, we have decided to give it a rating of 15. This is
what the BBFC would have rated it as we have looked at the guidelines and the specific
rules for a that rating and our thriller fits a 15 best. This is very good as it aims our
thriller mainly at teenagers and some older adults who have an interest in
thriller/horrors. Being a 15 is more open to a wider audience whom can watch the film
and enjoy it, rather than being limited from an 18 rating.

Secondary audience
profile Our secondary audience will focus on older people-
Steve
Osborne
Age: 37
Gender: Male
Relationship status: Single
Education/Job: Teacher
Media consumption: I normally watch quiet a bit of TV
in the day and go to the cinema in the evening. As I am
single I have a lot of time to go watch movies as I get
loads of free spare time to myself. I enjoy watching a lot
of thriller horror movies which come across as spooky
and weird. I love being scared and for their to be tension
in a film.
Interests: I enjoy meeting up with friends and playing golf I
the summer. However, I am very family orientated and love
spending the summers on holiday with them.
A secondary audience is someone who could
also like out thriller other than our primary
audience whom it is aimed at. Here is an
example of our secondary audience who
would be great as our thriller reaches what
he would like and fits his criteria for a spooky
thriller.
Demographic audience
profile
We have decided that our thriller will have a target audience mostly of the working class. Our age range will be from 15-
30 roughly as we feel anyone older would not bother going to view the film and any younger it wouldn’t be suitable for.
Our secondary target audience would be older people. The predominant gender is male as our thriller contains crime and
suspense which men are associated with. And our secondary audience would be female as more men answered out
questionnaires and when we spoke to them about thrillers they were more interested and willing to talk about it. In
terms of ethnicity it has a target audience of white British, as it is set in British fields and the main character is white so
mainly aimed at British white people.
Billy Page
Age: 21
Gender: Male
Interests: Billy is a university student, he likes
hanging with mates and swimming in his free time. He
studies social science and English literature. He works
at a retail store in Basildon therefore letting him earn
money to socialise and go out to the cinema very
often.
Favourite movies: The Women In Black, Insidious, Sinister and Paranormal Activity.
Psychographic audience profile
Our target audience is going to include some of the explore and mainstream profile, as mainstreamers will wanting
patterns and trends, explorers will be seeking thrill and excitement. As our film is a thriller these would be our ideal
audience as they seem more interested and energetic for a new upcoming thriller. But if we could make it appeal to
mainstreamers this would open up our range of audience and fan base, leading on to better publicity and marketing
ways.
Examples of films our audiences
would also like:
The Woman In Black
Insidious
Sinister
The Uninvited
The Babadook
