GCSE Film Studies: Pitch examples

  1. 1. Pitch for Butcher When a young and cocky police detective is kidnapped byjjhe"killer he's tracking, his department face a race against time to save him from becoming the Butcher's latestjvjctirn. Butcher will appeal predominantly to males aged between 18 and 30 years old and this is arguably a niche target audience; however the target audience is one to which a crime/slasher hybrid will appeal. The dark narrative and themes will appeal to the audiences masculiniry^as they are more likely to be comfortable with the levels of violencetnan women. The film will be set in and around London7"where the police desperately try and rescue the kidnapped deteetive Pete (played by Jude Law). There will also be several scenes set in a^small, dark basement as this is where the Butcher takes his victims<^^^ I have chosen Jude Law to play Pete because he's a welljaiown British actor on both sides of,the"Atlantic...and so the film will hopefully attract an American audience' He is a versatile and bankable, playing the protagonist in films from The Holiday to Enemy at the Gates, and his youthful looks will allow the, audience to empathise and sympathise with him. I have also chosen.^PoInn Bell to play Police Chief Walker and Liam Neeson as the Butcher. ^^ Butcher will be similar in narrative to thejiorror films Saw and Untraceable - both of which have been box office successes - and stylistically like £aw,JwKich is known for its frequent cut away scenes and graphic violence. Because of its low budget and niche audience, I would release Butcher in art house cinemas to minimise the jisk of the film failing. Pitch Summary for Butcher Logline: When a young and cocky police detective is kidnapped by the killer he's tracking, his department face a race against time to save him from becoming the Butcher's latest victim. Target Audience: 18-30 year old males, (interested due to the violent narrative, controversial themes and male dominated cast.) Genre: A hybrid of slasher, crime and thriller (a race to save a police detective from a serial killer.)
  2. 2. Actors: Liam Neeson (established and well known British actor), Tobin Bell (known for roles hi horror-films) and Jude Law (versatile and bankable British actor." Similar Films: Saw, Untraceable'''md Along came a Spider (narrative) Saw (style) Where it would be shown: Art house cinemas (low budget, independently produced and a niche audience: there's a risk of it failing at the box office.) 4. 4. 6 Hours before;.. Phil Turner, an experienced police detective/ is /murdered in his hotel room but as the story unfolds it turns out that there is more than on eg' person was involved, /The film is a crime thriller/ which will mainly appeal to 15- 50 year old males and possibly females, The beginning will start with the end result; a police detective being murdered. The story then unfolds telling three different /stories and how they ended up being involved in the murder. After following the different stories, the film follows the man who is murdered and reveals that everyone has been set up. Only a group of three survive /as they turn up at a mass murder scene and then the film ends on a cliff-hanger. Some stars who seem like good actors are Vinny Jones/ Bill Nighy and Jason Statham as have previous experience of this kind of film.
