The student learned several important things about technologies from constructing a media product. They learned how to use Final Cut Pro video editing software, including tools for effects, animations, sound editing, and cutting/pacing footage. They also became familiar with using an HD camera to film footage. The student observed how camera and film technologies have advanced over the years to allow higher quality productions that can be easily started and stopped during recording. Both advantages and disadvantages exist to the technologies used, such as special effects capabilities versus challenges matching footage filmed at different times.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process
of constructing this product?

The use of digital technology is important for creativity and
communication. This allows media products to be more effective. The
use of different camera technologies and the quality of these different
cameras can be beneficial for the media product. Over the years the
different technologies used in film has drastically improved. The idea of
convergence is now common meaning that these products can be now
shown on a number of different platforms using different technologies.
Throughout the process of constructing my media product I have learnt a
lot about different technologies. The main thing I have learnt is how to
use Final cut pro which was the software used for editing our product.
Before creating our thriller opening I had never used final cut pro before
however I picked it up easily and soon became familiar with all of the
different aspects of using the software.
I learned how to use different tools on final cut pro. This included being
able to create l effects including the use of animations, sound effects
and transitions. I also became familiar with cutting and slowing up and
speeding up particular shots. I found final cut pro easy to use as it gave
me more knowledge and allowed me to improve on my editing skills.

2. Another thing that I have learned about technologies was how to use the
equipment that we was provided with. We used a small HD camera to
film our entire sequence. This allowed me to become more familiar with
using these cameras as I am more likely to use my phone camera rather
than any other type of camera. The type of camera available in today’s
society has changed extremely. Camera’s many years ago used to
require film and was less advanced. This made it difficult to produce high
quality media products and challenged the idea of being able to start and
stop recording whenever needed.
There are many advantages and disadvantages that come with the
different technologies that we used. An advantage is the idea that final
cut pro now uses different elements to create a better product. It is
easier to create special effects and the process is a lot more reliable.
The use of being able to start and stop recording whenever needed is
also an advantage as it is less time consuming.
A disadvantage of the technologies however is that if certain shots were
filmed at different times, it may be difficult to make them look realistic.
When filming years ago however, all filming would be done there and
then at once meaning that the running of the product was likely to be
smoother.
Overall, I have learnt a lot about technologies from the process of
constructing this product.
