Working title for film
Sonder - The realization that each random passerby is living a life
as vivid and complex as your own
Idea or theme
(comedy and drama)
Our idea and theme is about stereotypes with a comical sense. The
stereotype of a young girl in year 7, and a male young adult who is
dressed like a thug. Immediately you assume the male does not have
many prospects because this goes with his clothing. This will lead us to
show you how misinterpretation of characters happens within
everyday life.
Outline of narrative (storyline) The story starts off with a man in a suit walking down the street. He
turns the corner to see a young adult fighting with a young girl. It cuts
to black and shows ‘earlier that day’. The film then shows the lives of
the two characters and the contrast in their characteristics and social
status. The film goes through each of the characters’ days showing
simple events such as shopping or schoolwork. The young girl then
watches the young male as he goes into the job centre. The audience is
led to believe he is about to steal something by using camerawork to
emphasise the valuable possessions of strangers in the room with him.
The camera then cuts to him leaving the Job centre fumbling with an
envelope, a bag of sweets and a rucksack; trying to fit everything in. It
then cuts to the shot at the beginning with the man in the suit walking
down the street and seeing the struggle. He runs to help the little girl.
He grabs the bag and hands it to the girl, who then runs away with it.
The young man looks at him in disbelief. The next shot is of the little
girl taking a seat on the pavement or a stone step and looking through
the bag. She opens the envelope to find some money, and throws it to
the side. She carries on throwing random items from the bag to the side
of the road until she gets to the sweets; she then throws the rucksack
to the side and eats the sweets while the credits role.
