Who would be the audience for your media product?
MY AUDIENCE
Age
• Audiences interested in my music magazine would be
between the ages of 16-24 years-old. This is the age bracket
of teenagers and young adults.
Gender
• 70% of the demographic is male and the other 30% female.
This is because the genre of house music is mostly admired
by males with a minority of females. Females are also
attracted due to the female gaze theory to the male artist
featured within the magazine.
Gender
Female Male
SOCIO-ECONOMIC
DEMOGRAPHIC
• The socio-economic demographic that the target audience belong to is C2, D and E.
• This is the lower part of the socio-economic scale, however, it fits perfectly as the
audience is mainly students. Full-time students have yet undeveloped skills and
therefore, a part-time job will bring serve them a limited disposable income.
THE SOCIO-ECONOMIC SCALE
• This is how the socio-economic demographic of my target audience is listed on the
socio-economic scale. C2 would be considered the most fortunate out of this list
and E the least. However, the demographic can shift along the scale, for example if
a student finds employment they will move up.
PSYCHOGRAPHICS
• The category into which house admirers fall into is explorers and strugglers.
• Explorers are up-to-date with the newest house music artists, tracks and nightclub
scenes. They are keen to not only explore sub-cultures of house music but also
produce their own remixes.
• Strugglers would be trying to find their place in society and be heavy users of drugs
and alcohol. They are categorised as living the ‘lazy, rebellious, teenage’ life. Their
fast-paced life is fuelled by fast foods.
FASHION AND ACTIVITIES
• Although the target audience has small savings, they own fashionable but
comfortable and casual clothes. This is because the DJs present themselves in this
way.
• The target audience would attend warehouse parties and festivals, such as
Tomorrowland, in the summer.
SECONDARY AUDIENCE
• Apart from females who are interested in house and dance music, parents would
also be a small secondary audience.
• This applies especially to those parents who want to know what their children are
reading and want to be perceived as ‘cool’ by their kids.
• What is more, they will be interested in articles on the genre’s history as house
music began in the late 70s. This is the time when they would have been
adolescents and perhaps frequently listened to house music or its subgenres.
TECHNOLOGY
• REMYX magazine readers will be up-to-date with the currents affairs of house
music and its subgenres, despite being primarily students with small disposable
income.
• What makes this possible is having the latest technological gadgets such as tablets
and mobile phones. This allows them to keep up with the latest news in the music
industry by a few touches on a touchscreen.
• Advanced speakers, headphones and DJ equipment will let them enjoy house
music.
SOCIAL MEDIA INTERACTION
• The audience is social media orientated also and apps like Snapchat, Instagram
and Twitter will be their priority to keep their social life intact. In this way audiences
will be able to interact and post about REMYX.
• What is more, REMYX will have an app and a downloadable, digital copy of the
latest magazine released for the audience to access.
READER PROFILE
• This is the reader profile for which I created for my target
audience during the planning process for my music
magazine.
• I included images of the setting in which I would expect the
target audience would be in on a night out and this is in a
club environment.
• There are images of clothing which are quite casual and
this demonstrates how the youth subcultures present
themselves.
• The images that are presented at the bottom of the page
are the artists my audience would have an interest in. An
example is David Guetta who is a DJ that follows the
genres of: house, EDM, progressive house, electro house
and dance-pop.
