1. Who would be the audience for your
media product and why?
2. I have learnt that there are many different types of film audiences such as
children, teens, adults and elderly. With these audiences it also breaks down
into more specific audiences which are called niche audiences. Each film has
to go through the BBFC company which will give the film an age rating. The
BBFC rating I decided to choose was 12A, this was because I wanted to target
a younger audience as the narrative of the film has younger actors which gives
a closer connection to the younger audience. The genre itself helps with this
as sci-fi films are known to be full of special effects and unusual objects which
also appeal to youth audiences.
3. I have chosen the teenage audience as it would help with the distribution side
of things because when teenagers go to the cinema, it is not known for them to
go alone, they will always go in groups with friends or family. To distribute the
film word of mouth and social networking sites are used a lot with teenagers.
Merchandise such as t-shirts etc. would be worn to advertise the film further.
Teenagers usually tell their friends about the film once they’ve seen it which
would convince other teenage groups to watch the film. Also through social
networking sites such as Twitter, Facebook and Youtube teenagers would
spread their opinions even further which leads to free advertising which would
help sell the film.
As a film producer I felt that a film with teenagers would appeal to other
teenagers and the audience will feel closer to the characters as they are the
same age because I myself am a teenager.
