EVALUATION QUESTION 4: HOW DID
YOU USE MEDIA TECHNOLOGIES IN THE
CONSTRUCTION AND RESEARCH,
PLANNING AND EVALUATION STAGES?
Powerpoint was used in the research to produce surveys and to give
presentations to my classmates about my ideas to develop.
Slideshare was used to upload my PowerPoints in order for them to be
uploaded online and also onto my blog.
Youtube was used within my research to look at existing teaser trailers for
research into selecting genres and finding out what I needed to do to
produce a realistic teaser trailer on a budget.
Google was again used for a lot of research into existing products, not only
teaser trailers, but also for my ancillary products. It was very helpful as
there was a lot of research needed before I could start developing my
ideas.
I used LiveType early on in the research in order to experiment and
research into possible fonts I could use. There is such a wide variety of
fonts that I felt it was a good idea that I started to look into fonts fairly early
on.
Research
Final Cut Express was one of the main
programmes I used to edit my footage on
to produce my teaser trailer. It was easy to
use as I already had experience in using it
from the previous year, which allowed me
to improve my skills further for this project.
Photoshop was another main programme
used for my ancillary products. I found it
particularly easy to use as I had some
basic knowledge. The programme allows
me create layers, edit the pictures in many
ways and change opacity.
InDesign was a programme I hadn’t used
before but was key for my ancillary
products. It allows you to create layers, add
text, shapes and also allows you to
download fonts and brushes. Using this
programme allows you to produce
something of a very high standard that
looks realistic.
Youtube was used to post updates of my
footage online as rough cuts and for my
final production, which could then be added
onto my blog; allowing my audience to see
it and also meant I could get audience
feedback on my teaser trailer by showing
them my footage.
Construction Dafont.com was used to download
extra fonts needed in order to produce
my ancillary products. In particular it
was very helpful for my film poster
and magazine cover to get extra fonts
that weren’t necessarily available on
InDesign. It was very simple to use
and download fonts.
Soundtrack Pro was used to produce
the soundtrack for my teaser trailer. I
could create several layers of sounds
to make an actual track, but you can
also get sound effects using the
programme. It was a very important
programme to use as without a
soundtrack the teaser trailer would be
very bland and dull without one.
LiveType was used for the fonts and
titles within my teaser trailer. I had
some basic understanding of using
the programme which I progressed
within this year. It was simple to use
and allowed me to also use transitions
to vary the way that they came onto
the page and also the duration which
was very helpful. It was simple to
export and import them into Final Cut
Express to also add to my teaser
trailer.
Evaluation
Youtube allowed me to add my teaser trailer and the rough cuts
onto the site and then onto my blog, allowing my audience to view
it and also give feedback onto it.
Prezi was a new programme I used which allowed me to create
presentations but in a newer creative and interesting way to the
normal PowerPoint presentations. Once I created the Prezi it
enabled me to put it onto my blog
Slideshare was another programme similar to Prezi that I used
once I had created a normal PowerPoint and I was then able to add
it onto Slideshare and then onto my blog.
Conclusion
It is clear to see how important media technologies were throughout the planning, construction and
evaluation stages of my project. There were many programmes that I used that I probably couldn’t
have produced my work without, especially within the construction section.
Within the research I feel that I could have been able to use less media technology as I could have
gone out and brought magazines and posters, however by having these technologies it sped up the
process a lot and was a lot more easier to find and use as well as being cheaper.
I feel that media technologies were a necessity within the construction stage as without it I don’t think
it would have been as easy, quick and manageable to do without it. The programmes I used were all
very important as they all allowed me to do several things that wouldn’t have been manageable if I
didn’t have these. They were a great help not only for my teaser trailer but also for my ancillary
products which I don’t think would have looked as professional without programmes such as
Photoshop to edit the pictures and then InDesign to put everything together to make the ancillary
products.
The evaluation section also used very important media technologies, which again without these I
would not have been able to show my audience my final products and the use of programmes such
as Prezi and Slideshare also allowed me to use more creative programmes on my blog to present my
work.
Blogger was also a very key media technology used throughout the whole of my project in order for
me to plan, construct, evaluate and record all of the processes and progress that I made as I
developed further into my project.
