How Effective Is The Combination Of

               Texts?
The Original Brief
• “A promotion package for the release of an
album, to include a music promo video, together
with; a cover for its release as part of a digi-pack
(CD/DVD package), a magazine advertisement for
  the digi-pack (CD/DVD package)”

• The idea was that we had to produce a coherent
package with a house style and that worked
together to attract audiences to the actual
  product – the album.

How Coherent Was My Print Work?
• “It’s good how the scenes and props all relate to each other, makes it
look professional that they both link together”

I personally think that my print work was very coherent, I kept very tightly to
my house style in terms of font and colouring, as I noted during my research
that this was the case in most promotional packages, not just the Brit-Pop
genre. I aimed to try and carry through the same style in both ancillary
pieces and the actual video. To create the same ‘vintage-style’ tint on the
images I used the same levels of CMYK on each photo – 25, 24, 45, 0. I made
sure that the imagery for both was clearly set in a pub, by making the props
    and mise-en-scene focus points.
Music Video Mise En Scene – The
                                       same pub location has
                                       been used throughout
                                       the music video.

Props –
  Animal
  mask.

Colouring – Same slight Costume – Main
‘vintage’ tint, creating actor is wearing the
using lighting rather than same maroon
        CYMK in the ancillary Harrington-style
        texts. jacket.
Same actor, different
  outfit but that is
because in the inside Music Video
  scenes he has taken
  his jacket off.

                                                                 Props –
                                                                   Pint of
                                                                   beer.

Mise En Scene – Same pub
                                                    Colouring – Same slightly
                     location used, including the
                                                    ‘vintage’ tint to the
                     pool table featured on the
                                                    scene.
                     digi-pack.
Colouring - Same
Props – Animal mask.
Music Video slightly ‘vintage’ tint to
                                                   the scene.

Costume – The actor wearing the pig
Mise En Scene – Same pub mask is wearing the same white polo
setting. shirt as in the digi-pack images.
How Coherent Was The Music Video?
• “Very, you can easily tell in the pub scenes that the
print work was from the same package as the video,
and that they are designed to work together.”
• “The only thing I would say isn’t coherent is that
there is no indication in the print work that it is set
in London, and that is a large aspect of the music
  video.”
I think that for the most part our music video is very coherent , we kept
the costumes and actors consistent throughout to enable good
continuity. We also made sure that the style was kept the same, by
using the same props and locations. After adding different levels of
RGB to the print work to add a ‘vintage’ tint to the images, we tried to
create a similar colouring to the music video itself by using the dim
natural lighting of the pub, and changing it by reflecting LED lights off
the wall when it was necessary.
Are The Ancillary Texts And The Video
         Together Coherent?

I think that by using the same main actor across both the ancillary products and the music
video it gives a strong connection between them, as does the setting of the same pub and
features such as the bar and the pool table. In my audience feedback it was pointed out
that there is no reference to London in my print work, which is the other main setting of
the video. I think in order to tie the promotional products together even more I could have
put some London imagery on one of the panels of the digi-pack, or somehow incorporated
it in to my advert. However, as the majority of the video and all of the narrative is set in the
pub, I don’t think it affects the coherence of the package too much. I also think that
because the pig mask is one of the main features of the print work, we could have used it
much more in the video as it doesn’t appear very much in comparison to the rabbit mask.
