1. In what ways does your media
product use, develop or challenge
forms and conventions of real
media products?
2. Magazine –
• Radio times layout – For our magazine we decided to stick
close to the typical Radio Times layout, we decided this for
brand identity purposes as we have used the BBC for all of
our products.
• Colour scheme – The colour scheme links to the transitions
within our documentary and how we have our narrator
speaking over the light displays within the theatre.
• Links to the other media outlets we decided to put the
documentary and radio trailer on – As I have mention in my
previous bullet point we choose the BBC to display all of our
media products, so we kept to some of the stylistic brands for
the BBC. For example the layout for our magazine has text on
one side and images on the other which is typical for a Radio
Time article.
3. Documentary –
• Super Size me gave us the idea for the on-screen presenter being the narrator
as well – We wanted someone on-screen that the audience could relate to as
our audience was teens to young adults we had a younger presenter.
• We made the topic personal to us and some of the struggles that we have had
to deal with ourselves – This is something that we have all struggled with as we
have choose Arts subjects throughout our school lives.
• Fast Pace editing – it helps with our target audience if we had faster editing to
keep the interest on our documentary.
• Our personal interest in the topic influenced some of our creative decisions, as
students ourselves we wanted to have a more student dominated. As we
thought it would be good to have the perspective of the students shown as it
had more of an impact on the audience.
• This challenges conventions of professionally made documentaries as they
tend to have more formal than informal interviews.
4. Radio Trailer –
• Between 30 seconds and a minute long which is conventional to the student
trailers that we watched. We thought this would be enough time to get the
viewers interested but not give enough away so they would want to want the
documentary.
• We had quotes from the documentary which is also conventional with the one
that we looked at and it gives the audience a taste of what’s to come from the
documentary. We also had our presenter speak over the top to have a audio link
between our products.
• We used the same music that we used in the background of the documentary
for continuity.
