The document provides an evaluation of a promotion package created by Bethany Fox for a music video. It discusses:
- The target audience of 16-22 year old middle class young adults who would be interested in promotion products for bands.
- How the music video genre of indie pop/folk was developed by telling an unconventional love story between two young adults set in the Derbyshire moors, representing their freedom and love in a creative way.
- Feedback indicated that the relationship story worked well together with the music despite not directly relating to the song lyrics, and that film overlays creating an aged effect enhanced the soft love story unexpectedly paired with the music genre.
2. Introduction
During our A level media course we are set an
A2 assignment this includes several options of
which you may choose from, I chose to complete
the 1st assignment of which was a promotion
package for a music video that I was to create, it
included a digipak for the band and also a
magazine advertisment for the digipak and their
band.
3. Target Audience & Product
Ideally in mind my target audience would consist of both
male and female young adults in the age range of 16-22.
My target audience will fall into a middle class of working
standards. Most of which will have part time jobs as either
waiter/waitress or retail assistants or be in higher
education or apprentices'. Therefore would have back
pocket spare cash for promotion products such as posters,
games, digipaks, figurines, tour tickets and many more.
I think my product will appeal to my target audience as
they are the easy going, fun, loving, party group of the era
and match perfect with the songs genre as its fun but easy
but also makes you want to party or maybe even fall in
love.
4. Q1; In what ways does your media product use,
develop or challenge forms and conventions of real
media products?
The genre of my music video and its promotional
products is indie pop/folk, conventions of my music
video are probably a little harder to find in mine; I used
the stereotypical love story between two young adults,
but developed it by taking them somewhere out of the
ordinary up in the derbyshire moors, representing
freedom and love that they share. Its vital to use typical
elements within a music video so that you don’t loose
the attention of your audience, for example by creating a
relationship within the story between you as the
audience and them as characters means that once we
are hooked, we care for them and want to know how it
ends. In a music video its incredibly important to keep
up with the beats within it and therefore ensuring that all
shots are cut to perfection but evenly too, so as to not
send you silly but keep you drawn in.
5. Q1;
The genre of indie folk/pop is a very small genre and
isn’t really experimented with much and therefore I
felt that is was important as a creator to ensure
there was something new and different to the
traditional showing of them live at a festival etc. This
is when I decided I wanted to show the relationship
between to people who blatantly love one and
another. I felt it was important for me to do
something new with the genre to show my creativity
and the thought I've put into the whole process. To
ensure of this I played on their relationship but also
by creating something of a story that had absolutely
nothing to do with the song or really even it lyrics but
that worked so incredibly well as a whole.
6. Q1;
Having created a questionnaire and asked those
of both a media technological mind and those of
an average consumer audience mind; my main
feedback was, how well as a whole it all worked
together but also how I had used the overlays to
create old aging film effects on top of my original
material. Which personally I feel worked in my
favour as when they heard the music they wasn’t
expected such a soft love story to run with it.
