Using Web 2.0 Technologies to Facilitate Learninglarae9411
This slide show describes a collaborative project between students at Florida A&M University (a historically black university in Tallahassee, Fla.) and Midwestern State University (a predominantly white university in Wichita Falls, Texas) in fall 2008. Students used a wiki, blog, e-mail, social networking sites and a videoconference to create, promote and analyze the results of an online survey (using SurveyMonkey) of college student attitudes toward the 2008 presidential election. The presentation was given in August 2009 at the Association for Education in Journalism & Mass Communication in Boston.
This paper contributes to the growing body of scholarly inquiry into the BYOD (‘Bring Your Own Device’) versus prescribed (minimum standards) technology for learning by reporting on key findings of an institutional mobile learning prescribed technology trial. The study investigated student experiences with and preferences for mobile learning technology, accessible via BYOD or a prescribed approach. The study participants were loaned a tablet and instructed on how to use it for various learning activities throughout a teaching period. A survey and in-depth interviews were used to evaluate the study’s outcomes. It was found that students used their personal and loaned devices simultaneously and in a complementary manner rather than choosing to use one device for all learning activities. As majority of students in this study already owned a personal mobile device and used it for some learning activities, they did not think they acquired any new skills as a result of this project. However, in regards to the loaned tablets use, students found it had overall improved their digital literacy skills and typing speed and overall facilitated better multi-tasking and productivity. Based on findings, we offer three key considerations on how to fully leverage mobile learning technology in the classroom.

ICT are transforming Cuban higher education towards the adoption of blended-learning and distance learning. This dissertation focuses on investigating the effectiveness of using social software to support collaborative learning in a Cuban university. Five studies were conducted within three phases that included diagnostic, integration and validation of the social software that was used to support collaborative learning. A didactic model was created to integrate social software within Cuban teaching and learning in higher education. Social Network Analysis and content analysis were used to evaluate the effectiveness of social software to support students' learning through their collaborative learning relationships and through their posts in wiki pages and online discussions. Statistical analysis was used to evaluate students' self-efficacy as a measure of their achievements in social software-supported collaborative learning. The findings confirmed social software’s suitability to support collaborative learning, as it increased collaborative learning's effectiveness, compared to face-to-face collaborative learning. Specific findings were revealed for the use of wikis and online discussions within teaching and learning, which are extendable to other social software tools. A didactic model to integrate social software in Cuban teaching and learning, as well as a framework to analyse students' interactions, were used for first time and validated to extend its use among Cuban university stakeholders.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202

The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.

3. Study 1 Purpose of study: The purpose of this study was to investigate the influence of Flickr, as an online photo management and sharing application, when implemented in a technology course for pre-service teachers on their visual literacy skills.
4. Study 1 Instruments of study: There are four instruments were used in this study which are: Online tracking and observation: to assess the extent to which pre-service teachers are engaged in real decoding and encoding activities through the participation in Flickr. Visual Literacy Test: to assess whether pre-service teachers' visual literacy skills were enhanced via interpretation, development and sharing of photographs or not. Interview: to solicit pre-service teachers’ concerns and views regarding the use of Flickr in enhancing their visual literacy skills
5. Study 2 Title of study: WebCT as an E-Learning Tool: A Study of Technology Students’ Perceptions Author: Lesta A. Burgess Name of technology: WebCT
6. Study 2 Evaluation of WebCT features: This study evaluated the WebCT as communication (bulletin board , chat room, private e-mail) , instructional (glossary, references, self-test) and management tools (grading, tracking student interaction, monitoring class progress). The questions sought to determine whether the students perceived that they had used the WebCT effectively, what elements of WebCT they elected to use, what difficulties they might have encountered, and their overall opinions regarding this e-learning tool.
7. Study 2 Evaluation of WebCT features: The evaluation instrument has three sections which are about: 1- collected data about student use of and familiarity with WebCT 2- interest in using e-learning tools in the future 3- collected demographic information
8. Study 2 Ensuring validity: The validity and reliability of the instrument was ensured by experts in related fields, as well as through a pilot test. The questionnaire was sent to five university faculty for validation. Before implementing the survey, a pilot test was administered to fifteen students.
9. Study 2 Results: - A majority (94.7%) of students, this was the first time they had used WebCT or any courseware tool - A majority of students (52.6%) reported no technical problems with the software . - (78.6%) students found WebCT useful for their courses.
