2. In what ways does your production use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real fiction films in your chosen genre?

3. Genre - Thriller Fictional films are usually categorized according to their setting, theme topic, mood, or format. The setting is the location or environment where the story and action takes place. The theme or topic refers to the issues or concepts that the film revolves around. The mood is the emotional tone of the film. Format refers to the way the film was shot To briefly talk about the genre of my film:At the beginning of my film I have chosen to use creepy and mysterious music which immediately illustrates audience’s mind into a scary and frosty atmosphere.To match up with the music, the weather was cloudy and dark the day I filmed it, which also helps to create the atmosphere. I have taken a few scenes of an old church, which most thrillers movies nowadays were filmed, eg. Old church, old house, old school, grave yard, hospitals. I honestly think filming in the church is not very creative and being stereo type, but I wanted to state the obvious of my genre so I decided to film it in the church as there are so many old churches around Cambridge.

5. These movies were filmed mainly in churches, although their stories are based on religious belief and my film is not, however the history and the architecture of churches are generally suitable for thrillers.

6. I think using lighters in the scene creates a scary atmosphere of darkness which is why I used it in my film.

7. Staircase gives a mystery feeling and every shot catches attention

Title‘Locked’ The reason why I decided to name my film ‘Locked’ is because my whole 2 minutes film showed a girl trying to escape to outside from inside, but all the doors she reached were locked, and it probably made the audience think ‘why is she locked?’ ‘who locked the door or why are the doors locked’? I think this title could relate to lot of questions in audience’s head. Before my final decision, I once named my film ‘trapped’, although it doesn’t seem to have a big difference, but I think it slightly changes the mood of the film, as her being trapped doesn’t seem scary when ‘locked’ could easily involve another character in my film, I just think ‘Locked’ have more possibilities of ways of thinking. It also matches my film more as I have a few close up shots of the door handle and letting the audience know that the doors are ‘locked’.

9. Setting/LocationMy film is located in Cambridge on Round Church Street. My film wasn’t actually filmed in the church, I only filmed from the outside of the church to set up the atmosphere and scene to make the audience think that it took place in the church. The indoor of my film was actually filmed at a basement of my school which is also a veryold building, I have chosen this location because it is very creepy and dark inside, the wallsand floors are out of shape and some damaged and scratched. The old and scratchy door in film which I liked the most, it is creepy which works very well in my film. The disadvantages: There were people walking by during the filming, and I couldn’t stop it because it is part of a school premises. It is really dark inside and there is no naturally light, so I had to bring my own battery lights.

Costumes and Props I think I should have put more thoughts into costumes, and I thought wearing a dress and walking around bare foot would stand out her character more and to show the vulnerable side of her but on the other hand, I wanted my story to be set out like she is just an ordinary girl on an ordinary girl found herself locked and no way to escape, this would make the audience put more thoughts in HOW she got in there. Therefore in my film, my actress is wearing normal clothes, a top grey sweater with black jeans, boots and some accessories which is what normal people wear usually. I didn’t use that many props, I have used:Two artificial batteries light

11. Video camera and tripod

12. Lighter editing I used the software Final Cut Express to edit my film. I have explored a lot of techniques while editing the film, and also for my titles, I have used the software Live Type to edit it to make it more presentable.

13. Camera work At the beginning when she was running along the corridor then up the stairs, I actually wanted to be a tracking shot but I didn’t have a still camera to use and moreover I thought it would make the film look like a documentary.

14. Title font and styleAs I said I have used the software Live Type to edit my Title and font. I have used the colour red because it symbolizes blood and horror. I used the Abadi Bold font for my title, and the snap in place effect. I used the Baffle effect to present the name of my film to make it eye-catchy.
