Every film represents different social groups. Our media product represents the following:
• Class
• Race
• Age
• Gender
• Sexuality
-The class we are aiming our production at is the middle class. The main way we have used class in our
piece is through our main characters, this isn’t massively obvious through our piece however the storyline
creates the main idea behind it.
- The protagonist in our piece is clearly shown to be within the middle class, His clothing shows that he is
middle class due to his designer brands. However he does take drugs during our piece which can be shown
in two ways, he feels he wants to break the rules or that he has the money to do so. This however may
show a lack of intelligence but we wanted to show him breaking the rules. This contrasts however due to
the other two main characters are shown similar to the protagonist however their clothing is untidy and
therefore more fits the stereotypes for the lower class.
As an overview we represent these social groups :
 Teenagers
 Middle class
 Moviegoers
 English speakers
 Socioeconomic status
-These are the social groups that we portray in our final piece, we do this by using a large cast
all with different social backgrounds, however this is not distinguishable through our opening
sequence.
• The protagonist in my production was male alongside all the other main
characters are as well. By having this already set out it already narrows the social
group, also the fact we know they are teenagers (15-21) this intern creates a
niche group.
• The location also helps represents the chosen social group, commonly in younger
cultures parties are undertaken within someone’s home, by making the location of
our piece in a house it makes it more appealing and relative to viewers between
the ages of 15-21. This may also appeal to older groups.
• The production is mainly aimed towards the teenage male social group, this is
justified throughout the piece with the use of crude humour etc. The jokes
stereotype a lot and use jokes which some may find offensive. This alongside
relatable situations for boys
• The language used in our piece is also very relative when it comes to social
groups. The first main factor is our piece is in English, this represents the group of
English speakers. In closer detail the crude humour and language which is used
also aims at a younger social group who use this type of language commonly in day
to day life.
• Finally our media product also aims at a person’s socioeconomic status. The
characters in the film are higher education (A levels), this therefore represents
the social group of youth in higher education. The characters are also in middle
class and therefore we present this as a social group and this may entice this
audience group.
