B Y E L O I S E B A R R E T T
DRAMA
OUR GENRE
We would label our short film as a drama, mainly because a drama film/series
tells us a story through dialogue and action. So in our case the teddy bear is
telling us a story and with our feedback from our presentation, we have been
given the idea of a POV through the teddy bears eyes so it would be telling us
the story of two different social class families coming together.
Definition-
“In the context of film, television, and radio, drama describes a genre of narrative
fiction (or semi-fiction) intended to be more serious than humorous in tone,
focusing on in-depth development of realistic characters who must deal with
realistic emotional struggle.”
WHY WE THINK IT’S A DRAMA
We think it is a drama because it lacks aspects of other genres.
• Tells a story, working through a conflict
• Our conflict is the difficulty Shannon as a character struggles
• It provokes emotion due to Jack’s actions and the relationships between the
teenagers and children
• The realisation at the end is that jack left the teddy out for Layla on purpose
CONVENTIONS OF A DRAMA
• Realistic characters
• Real life situations
• Inner or outer realistic struggles
• A form of realisation at the end
• To provoke thought and emotion
• Usually includes a protagonist
