The student used several technologies to create a school magazine cover including Microsoft Publisher, Adobe Fireworks, and Adobe Photoshop CS6. With Publisher, the student was able to easily align and format text and images. Fireworks allowed removing backgrounds from images that were difficult in other programs. Photoshop provided many layers, effects, and tools to create high quality work for a music magazine cover, including crosshatch filters and magic wand and stroke tools. The student also used Bandicam to record an evaluation and Dafont.com to find fonts, taking photos with a Toshiba Cameleo and Nikon camera and saving work to laptop and memory cards.

1) They learned how to properly use layers and selection tools in Photoshop to edit elements like text, images, and adding effects like strokes and drop shadows.
2) In InDesign, they learned how to add pages, create and style boxes, place and size images, and send elements to the back of the page.
3) Their existing digital photography skills were useful for taking photos with effects like black and white, and understanding lighting and angles.
Task 6
Ben Reade used various technologies to complete a magazine production project. He used a Windows computer with Photoshop and InDesign already installed to design the magazine. He took photos for the project using his Samsung phone and a professional SLR camera provided to him. Photoshop allowed him to edit photos and design the front cover and contents page. InDesign helped him lay out the magazine pages professionally. Finally, he used DaFont to select three unique fonts to establish the indie rock genre for the magazine.
Task 6

- 2. Before starting this coursework, I had never used Adobe photoshop, nor a Mac. But now, I almost feel like a pro, able to create layers, lock layers, change colours of fonts and pictures, contrast photos and lay out a magazine effectively. However, I did face some problems whilst using the programme, sometimes, it would be difficult for me to use a consistent masthead as the background colour would go in front of it if I decided it looked better a little to the right or left. At the beginning of my teaching of photoshop, I found it hard also to lock the layers and ‘auto-select’ on shapes and photos, even though all it took was the shift button or a little tab at the top of the screen. The most useful thing about using a Mac was that you could use the screen-grab tool to get pictures of anything saved to your desktop. All you had to do was press “command”, “shift” and “4” and a cursor would come up, clicking down on the corner of the part of the screen you wanted to save, you would then let go of the cursor when it reached the other side of the image to create the screen-grab.

I used the following link to help me create my masthead: http://www.dafont.com/ This site helped me create my masthead as I chose the font I wanted to write in from it, then manipulated it by changing the colours and embossing it, and also adding shadow to add to the boisterous effect of the ‘Trashco’ font. I made it black and red to continue my colour scheme, which is evident throughout the magazine. Also, I used other fonts such as ‘Thirsty For Souls’, to compare and see which font would best suit the target audience and the overall purpose of my magazine.
