For his preliminary task, the author focused on integrating three basic camera shots with limited freedom. For his full opening sequence, he had more freedom in shooting with higher quality cameras. He found editing and organizing the full sequence more difficult due to more footage and stakeholders involved, but enjoyed it more as he was more motivated to learn and improve. He learned important skills in camerawork, editing, sound design, and organization from completing both tasks.

2. CAMERAWORK
 In the preliminary task the sole focus was to integrate three
camera shots; match on action, shot-reverse shot and the 180
degree rule.
 Because of this guidance I felt less free than when filming my
opening sequence as I didn’t have a completely free role and the
range of shots I could implement in my opening sequence were
limited.

higher quality and are more aesthetically pleasing.

4. EDITING
 For my preliminary task I spent around 2-3 hours to edit everything
and place a soundtrack that would fit. For my opening sequence it
was at least double this.
 I found that editing was much harder for my opening sequence as
there were more rushes to choose from and I was motivated to make
it as good as possible (I wasn’t motivated like this for the preliminary
exercise).
 I enjoyed editing my opening sequence more as I wanted to
overcome difficulties and learn things to maximise my product.
 The production of ‘Score’ is more aesthetically pleasing and
entertaining for viewers and you can see clear evidence showing the
great amount of time put into it.
 I learnt a great deal more about using Final Cut Pro and I went into
the editing of my product with a taster from doing the preliminary
exercise, this gave me a head start.

5. SOUND
 In my preliminary task I came across a song from watching a
time lapse video on youtube. It worked well with my story so
decided to go with it.
 Adding to the dialogue from the conversation at the start of my
task I added dialogue over the video to give it more meaning
and sense to viewers, with feedback displaying that my video
didn’t really make sense originally.
 Originally, I did have dialogue in my opening sequence but I felt
that emphasis should be on the music and shots synchronising.
 As for the soundtrack choice, it was a long and hard journey to
find a suitable song. It turned out to be the right one and I
learnt spending a long time researching will allow for a greater
informed decision and my patience was tested in the process.

6. ORGANISATION
 The organisation for my preliminary task was much easier with my
brother playing a secondary role to myself. We spent one day
filming as opposed to about 3-4 for my opening sequence. The
filming equipment was also limited with a basic video camera and
tripod only being at my disposal.
 I learnt a few things from an organisational aspect. On the one day
of filming my preliminary, the camera run out towards the end,
before I had got all the shots I wanted.
 This did not happen for my opening sequence as I brought
batteries with me and I was much more organised.
 I also had to ask Barnes Film Academy to borrow some filming
equipment (e.g. crane, slider, smoke machine etc) and ask for
Arthur and Max to play roles which required them to give up time
on their own work.
