This year is taking shape as one of the most dynamic in European technology in some time. Activity is heightened across private
capital, IPO, and M&A markets.
The availability of significant amounts of private capital from venture capital, growth equity, and private equity firms remains robust.
For example, we advised on the record-setting $40 million Series A investment in WorldRemit by Accel Partners and the $41 million
Series C investment in eCommera led by Dawn Capital.
The reopening of the U.K. IPO market has been featured prominently in the press this year, with companies such as Just Eat, AO.COM,
and others completing successful transactions in London. Other European markets have also seen renewed activity, such as the IPO
of Triboo Media in Italy and BravoFly in Switzerland.
Strategic acquirers are fueled by increasing confidence levels, strong balance sheets, and a focus on growth. Illustrative transactions
include Euronet’s acquisition of HiFX and Rakuten’s acquisition of Viber. In addition, in more mature sectors, we are seeing a degree
of consolidation, such as the Sopra/Steria merger.
Private equity firms across the size spectrum are active with a mix of secondary, take-private, and corporate carve-out transactions.
Cinven’s purchase of a stake in Visma, CVC’s acquisition of Avast, BC Partners’ acquisition of CarTrawler, Advent and Bain’s
acquisition of Nets, and Advent’s acquisition of Unit4 are examples.
