- "The Law is hard, but it is the Law" - Cassandra Clare,
City of Glass
- If there was no law and order in the universe, there
would be chaos and those less advantaged would be stomped
over and left behind. That one thing that differentiates
our society or the digital world from the jungle is the
set of laws and ethical guidelines. Hence it is very
important to consider legal and ethical issues before
setting up a website. Following are some guidelines we
decided to adhere to before working on the web design and
content.

- An un-accessible shopping website would exclude the the
type of users that are more likely to want to use it.
- An un-accessible govt website would exclude the type of
users that might have problems to reach the gvt (local or
national) in other ways
- An un-accessible website on health might be excluding
exactly the users that would want to use it
4. webaccessibilityinitiative(WAI)
- These help to make the web accessible to people with disabilities – because if
websites are badly designed and accessibility issues not thought through, they can
create barriers that can exclude people from using the web.
- The UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities recognises access to
Information and Communications Technology, including the web, as a basic human right
– thus we could be seen to be discriminating against certain users.
- Things such as:
1. Alt text
2. Clear navigation
3. Ensuring documents are simple and understandable
4. Not using colour alone to provide meaning
5. Providing alternatives for audio/visual content
5. Someoftheethicalissueswemayface
- Is it ethical to view the budget information and look at
the charts/graphs that are stored on our database or on
the file server?
