This document proposes using Spaza shops in townships as access points for online shopping. Spaza shops are informal convenience stores that are more numerous and accessible to township residents than formal retailers. The proposal calls for establishing pop-up internet access points staffed by high school students inside Spaza shop yards, allowing customers to shop online for groceries on a digital platform. Purchases would be home delivered the next day. Target customers are lower-income township residents who make regular small grocery purchases. The proposal aims to boost internet access and online shopping in underserved communities while also developing entrepreneurship among youth.
