Only 8% of South Africa’s public schools have libraries and only 34% of South Africans
have access to digital technology. MatricMag is a magazine to be distributed to learners
in rural high schools in South Africa who do not have access to digital technology or
libraries to supplement their information needs.
MatricMag is designed to inform, equip and inspire high performance and greatness in
South African high school learners. It will do this by providing practical information to
help guide their career and study choices, and also present alternative entrepreneurial
routes to financial security and productivity.
MatricMag is packed with expertly crafted content that covers various topics that
encourage a love of learning and a curious “can-do” mindset. Through expert contributors,
MatricMag will provide empowering information to help learners make
better-informed decisions to help them plan their futures.
Distribution and circulation
There are over 8,500 schools nationwide. We are rolling out MatricMag to Grade 10,
11 and 12 learners starting in the new school year (January 2016). The initial roll out
will target 10% of the schools across the country, and over the next 3-5 years we aim
to reach every learner in the target group. During the launch phase, 850 schools are
targeted – with a 250 000 print run every two months. The digital version will be freely
available to learners who have Internet access.
We are seeking the participation of corporate and individual partners to sponsor the
distribution of these magazines to the rural learners in the most disadvantaged schools.
Sponsoring one learner for a year costs only R60 and sponsoring one school (300
learners) for a year only costs R18,000.
MatricMag will also be available on various digital platforms where learners can access
more information on opportunities available for them to progress in life and career.
Why should you sponsor?
• You will be directly involved in growing entrepreneurs at grassroots level
• You will be helping to prepare SA’s youth to be employable and be self-employed
• You will be fighting illiteracy and developing a reading culture
• You will be fighting poverty and building lifeskills
