Esther 8
1. Esther 8
Esth 8:1-2
1) On that day did the king Ahasuerus give the house of
Haman the Jews' enemy unto Esther the queen.
And Mordecai came before the king;
for Esther had told what he was unto her.
2) And the king took off his ring,
which he had taken from Haman,
and gave it unto Mordecai.
And Esther set Mordecai over the house of Haman.
Wen Haman died, and the king’s anger was “pacified”
Ahasuerus turns everything that belonged to Haman
over to Esther.
Esther in turn makes Mordecai the steward over
Haman’s household (v2).
At the same time Esther tells the king Mordecai is her
cousin and adoptive father (Esther 2:7).
Esth 2:7
2. 7) And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his
uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor
mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom
Mordecai, when her father and mother were dead,
took for his own daughter.
Now Mordecai is promoted as he should have been
back in Esther 3:1.
Esth 3:1
1) After these things did king Ahasuerus promote
Haman the son of Hammedatha the Agagite, and
advanced him, and set his seat above all the princes
that were with him.
There the king promoted Haman after Mordecai had
saved the king from an assassination plot: Haman had
been made the prime minister and had been given the
right to make laws in the king’s name (Esther 3:10).
Esth 3:10
10) And the king took his ring from his hand, and
gave it unto Haman the son of Hammedatha the
Agagite, the Jews' enemy.
3. Esth 8:2
2) And the king took off his ring, which he had taken
from Haman, and gave it unto Mordecai. And Esther set
Mordecai over the house of Haman.
Vs2
Ahasuerus gives his signet ring to Mordecai. Not only
is Mordecai place in charge of everything Haman
owns, he is given Haman’s position in the kingdom.
A picture of the Jews being restored and their
“fullness” coming in. When that happens the
riches of the Gentiles are turned over to the Jews.
That time is described in two chapters in the Old
Testament (Isa 65-66).
During the Millennium, the Jews will have charge
of all the Devil’s property and people. The Jews
will be on top; Jerusalem will be the capitol of the
world; and the “king of the Jews” will be the
supreme Dictator.
Esth 8:3-6
3) And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell
down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put away
4. the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his device that he
had devised against the Jews.
4) Then the king held out the golden sceptre toward
Esther. So Esther arose, and stood before the king,
5) And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour
in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I
be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the
letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the
Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in
all the king's provinces:
6) For how can I endure to see the evil that shall come
unto my people? or how can I endure to see the
destruction of my kindred?
Ester again comes before the king unbidden. This time
she is not afraid for her life. Her concern is only for her
people (v3).
Esth 8:3
3) And Esther spake yet again before the king, and fell
down at his feet, and besought him with tears to put
away the mischief of Haman the Agagite, and his
device that he had devised against the Jews.
Esth 8:5
5. 5) And said, If it please the king, and if I have found favour
in his sight, and the thing seem right before the king, and I
be pleasing in his eyes, let it be written to reverse the
letters devised by Haman the son of Hammedatha the
Agagite, which he wrote to destroy the Jews which are in
all the king's provinces:
V5
This is a good picture of how to approach God in
prayer:
1.“if it please the king”- ask in the will of God
2.“if I have found favor in his sight”- You must be
accepted in the beloved (Eph 1:6).
Eph 1:6
6) To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath
made us accepted in the beloved.
3.“And the thing seem right before the king”- The
Lord doesn’t answer a prayer to “consume it upon
your lust” (James 4:3).
Jas 4:3
3) Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, that ye
may consume it upon your lusts.
6. 4.“And I be pleasing in his eyes”- 1John 3:22
1John 3:22
22) And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we
keep his commandments, and do those things that are
pleasing in his sight.
Esther’s request is imposable, she wants the king to
repeal the law that Haman passed. (Esther 1:19) once a
law was on the books it couldn’t be altered.
Esth 1:19
19) If it please the king, let there go a royal
commandment from him, and let it be written among
the laws of the Persians and the Medes, that it be not
altered, That Vashti come no more before king
Ahasuerus; and let the king give her royal estate unto
another that is better than she.
Esth 8:7-14
7) Then the king Ahasuerus said unto Esther the queen
and to Mordecai the Jew, Behold, I have given Esther the
house of Haman, and him they have hanged upon the
gallows, because he laid his hand upon the Jews.
7. 8) Write ye also for the Jews, as it liketh you, in the king's
name, and seal it with the king's ring: for the writing which
is written in the king's name, and sealed with the king's
ring, may no man reverse.
9) Then were the king's scribes called at that time in the
third month, that is, the month Sivan, on the three and
twentieth day thereof; and it was written according to all
that Mordecai commanded unto the Jews, and to the
lieutenants, and the deputies and rulers of the provinces
which are from India unto Ethiopia, an hundred twenty
and seven provinces, unto every province according to the
writing thereof, and unto every people after their
language, and to the Jews according to their writing, and
according to their language.
10) And he wrote in the king Ahasuerus' name, and sealed
it with the king's ring, and sent letters by posts on
horseback, and riders on mules, camels, and young
dromedaries:
11) Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in
every city to gather themselves together, and to stand for
their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to perish, all the
power of the people and province that would assault
them, both little ones and women, and to take the spoil of
them for a prey,
8. 12) Upon one day in all the provinces of king Ahasuerus,
namely, upon the thirteenth day of the twelfth month,
which is the month Adar.
13) The copy of the writing for a commandment to be
given in every province was published unto all people, and
that the Jews should be ready against that day to avenge
themselves on their enemies.
14) So the posts that rode upon mules and camels went
out, being hastened and pressed on by the king's
commandment. And the decree was given at Shushan the
palace.
What the king couldn’t do was revoke the law, but he
could counter it with another “unalterable” law. So,
Mordecai and Esther write their own “ticket”.
The counsel and oaths of God are “immutable” (Heb
6:17-18). No matter how much love and compassion
God has, his laws will not change.
Heb 6:17-18
17) Wherein God, willing more abundantly to shew
unto the heirs of promise the immutability of his
counsel, confirmed it by an oath:
18) That by two immutable things, in which it was
impossible for God to lie, we might have a strong
9. consolation, who have fled for refuge to lay hold
upon the hope set before us:
God swore an oath to Abraham to give his seed,
through Isaac and Jacob the land of Canaan (Gen
15:18-21; 26:2-4; 28:13-14). While he may chasten
them till only a remnant is left, his oath to Abraham
will still stand.
God will not violate His counsel or oath against sin or
sinners (Gen 2:17; Ezek 18:4,20; Rom 5:12, 21; 6:23) his
love for them can not alter his oath against sin.
Gen 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good
and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that
thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Ezek 18:4 Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of
the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the
soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Ezek 18:20 The soul that sinneth, it shall die. The
son shall not bear the iniquity of the father, neither
shall the father bear the iniquity of the son: the
10. righteousness of the righteous shall be upon him, and
the wickedness of the wicked shall be upon him.
Rom 5:12 Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into
the world, and death by sin; and so death passed
upon all men, for that all have sinned:
Rom 5:21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even
so might grace reign through righteousness unto
eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.
Rom 6:23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift
of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.
So, a new unalterable law allows a protection from the
first. (Rom 8:1-2; Eph 4:30; Phil 1:6).
Rom 8:1-2 1 There is therefore now no
condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who
walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath
made me free from the law of sin and death.
Eph 4:30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God,
whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.
11. Phil 1:6 Being confident of this very thing, that he
which hath begun a good work in you will perform it
until the day of Jesus Christ:
After salvation, nothing about your eternal destiny
depends on you (Rom 8:29-39).
Rom 8:29-39 29 For whom he did foreknow, he also
did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his
Son, that he might be the firstborn among many
brethren.
30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also
called: and whom he called, them he also justified:
and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
31 What shall we then say to these things? If God be
for us, who can be against us?
32 He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him
up for us all, how shall he not with him also freely
give us all things?
33 Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's
elect? It is God that justifieth.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died,
yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right
hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.
12. 35 Who shall separate us from the love of Christ?
shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or famine,
or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
36 As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the
day long; we are accounted as sheep for the
slaughter.
37 Nay, in all these things we are more than
conquerors through him that loved us.
38 For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life,
nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things
present, nor things to come,
39 Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature,
shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
Mordecai counters Haman’s decree by allowing the
Jews to defend themselves and kill whoever attacks
them (vs. 11). They are also granted the right to
“spoil” those they kill.
Though they have the right to the spoils of war, the
Jews leave the spoils alone (Esther 9:10; 9:16)
Esth 8:11
11) Wherein the king granted the Jews which were in
every city to gather themselves together, and to stand
13. for their life, to destroy, to slay, and to cause to
perish, all the power of the people and province that
would assault them, both little ones and women, and
to take the spoil of them for a prey,
Esth 9:10 The ten sons of Haman the son of
Hammedatha, the enemy of the Jews, slew they; but
on the spoil laid they not their hand.
Esth 9:16 But the other Jews that were in the king's
provinces gathered themselves together, and stood
for their lives, and had rest from their enemies, and
slew of their foes seventy and five thousand, but they
laid not their hands on the prey,
Vs. 12
This time God turns a bad 13 (Esther 3:13) into a good
13 and made it a bad 13 for anyone who lifted a finger
against the Jews. Rom 8:28
Esth 3:13
13) And the letters were sent by posts into all the
king's provinces, to destroy, to kill, and to cause to
perish, all Jews, both young and old, little children
and women, in one day, even upon the thirteenth day
14. of the twelfth month, which is the month Adar, and to
take the spoil of them for a prey.
Rom 8:28
28) And we know that all things work together for
good to them that love God, to them who are the
called according to his purpose.
Vs14
Mordecai’s decree was hastened by the king’s
commandment. Most Christians have no sense of
urgency in regards to getting the Gospel out.
Esth 8:14
14) So the posts that rode upon mules and camels
went out, being hastened and pressed on by the
king's commandment. And the decree was given at
Shushan the palace.
Esth 8:15-17
15) And Mordecai went out from the presence of the king
in royal apparel of blue and white,
and with a great crown of gold,
15. and with a garment of fine linen and purple:
and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad.
16) The Jews had light, and gladness,
and joy, and honour.
17) And in every province,
and in every city,
whithersoever the king's commandment and his decree
came,
the Jews had joy and gladness,
a feast and a good day.
And many of the people of the land became Jews;
for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.
Vs15
Mordecai retains the honor the king gave him at
Hamman’s bidding (Esther 6:8). He is arrayed for all
intents and purposes as a king.
Esth 8:15
15) And Mordecai went out from the presence of the
king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a
great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen
16. and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was
glad.
Esth 6:8
8) Let the royal apparel be brought which the king
useth to wear, and the horse that the king rideth
upon, and the crown royal which is set upon his head:
Part 2
That is a picture of the Jews who will be killed in the
Tribulation for not bowing down and worshipping the
Antichrist and his image. (Rev 20:4).
Rev 20:4
4) And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and
judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of
them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus,
and for the word of God, and which had not
worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had
received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their
hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a
thousand years.
17. They will face the Antichrist, just like Mordecai faces
Haman. They won’t bow to him, just like Mordecai
didn’t bow to Haman. They are dressed like the king
and are given His authority after the destruction of the
Antichrist, just like Mordecai in Esther 8:15.
Esth 8:15
15) And Mordecai went out from the presence of the
king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a
great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen
and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was
glad.
In the Millennium, there are three groups that end up
reigning with Jesus Christ. There are the twelve
apostles of the Lamb. (Mat 19:28)
Matt 19:28
28) And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you,
That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration
when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his
glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging
the twelve tribes of Israel.
18. There are those who refuse to follow the Antichrist
and are beheaded during the Tribulation (Rev 20:4)
There are Church Age Christians who “occupy” this
world until Christ returns (Luke 19:13; Gal 1:11-17;
2Tim 2:12).
Luke 19:13 And he called his ten servants, and
delivered them ten pounds, and said unto them,
Occupy till I come.
Gal 1:11-17 11 But I certify you, brethren, that the
gospel which was preached of me is not after man.
12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I
taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.
13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past
in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I
persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:
14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my
equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly
zealous of the traditions of my fathers.
15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from
my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,
16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him
among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with
flesh and blood:
19. 17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which
were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and
returned again unto Damascus.
2Tim 2:12 If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if
we deny him, he also will deny us:
“And the city of Shushan rejoiced and was glad” (Pr
29:2)
Esth 8:15
15) And Mordecai went out from the presence of the
king in royal apparel of blue and white, and with a
great crown of gold, and with a garment of fine linen
and purple: and the city of Shushan rejoiced and was
glad.
Prov 29:2
2) When the righteous are in authority, the people
rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people
mourn.
Mordecai’s decree brought rejoicing and gladness.
20. Vs. 16
“light”
Is the Lighting of lamps for celebration, like Christmas
lights.
Esth 8:16
16) The Jews had light, and gladness, and joy, and
honour.
Vs. 17
“And many of the people of the land became Jews; for
the fear of the Jews fell upon them”
Converts to Judaism, after seeing what happened to
Haman, they are so scared of being on the wrong side
many get circumcised and go down and join the
synagogue. Daniel 6:26
Esth 8:17
17) And in every province, and in every city,
whithersoever the king's commandment and his
decree came, the Jews had joy and gladness, a feast
and a good day. And many of the people of the land
became Jews; for the fear of the Jews fell upon them.
21. Dan 6:26
26) I make a decree, That in every dominion of my
kingdom men tremble and fear before the God of
Daniel: for he is the living God, and stedfast for ever,
and his kingdom that which shall not be destroyed,
and his dominion shall be even unto the end.
In the Bible a “Jew” can be one of three things:
1)If a man is a descendant of Abraham, Isaac and
Jacob, he is a Jew- racially, physically.
2)If a man is saved and born again, he is a spiritual
Jew, but not a physical Jew.
3)If a Gentile joins Judaism as a proselyte he is
counted as a Jew, but he is neither a spiritual nor a
physical Jew- he is a religious Jew.
