The Local Partners Capacity Building Program aimed to address gender disparities and improve the capacity of local organizations in Zambia involved in HIV/AIDS programs. It provided gender training to 107 partner organizations, developed a gender framework, and funded community gender initiatives. The Disparities Leadership Program (DLP) is a one year executive leadership program designed to equip a cadre of leaders in healthcare with in-depth knowledge in the field of disparities, cutting-edge quality improvement strategies for identifying and addressing disparities, and leadership skills to facilitate the organizational transformation necessary to advance health care equity. With support from The Aetna Foundation, The Leadership Learning Community (LLC) conducted an external evaluation of the DLP and the program's impact on participating organizations’ efforts to address health inequities. In this webinar, Dr. Joseph Betancourt, Director of the Disparities Solutions Center, Dr. Roderick King, Senior Faculty at the Disparities Solutions Center, and Dr. Claire Reinelt, founding member and former Research and Evaluation Director of LLC, will provide an overview of the DLP, present the findings of the evaluation and discuss lessons learned for the development and implementation of successful executive leadership programs focused on organizational transformation.

The Fox Valley Technical College (FVTC) referendum was conducted during tough economic times and a turbulent political landscape. Miron Construction worked with Eppstein Uhen Architects (EUA) to clearly identify FVTC's needs. Extensive input was gathered from key stakeholder groups including faculty, staff, students and valued community partners. Dr. Susan May, FVTC president, said: "EUA and Miron helped us design a process to gain public support from all constituencies, one that assisted FVTC in making effective and efficient decisions in a relatively short time frame." The result was a $66.5 million referendum that passed with 66 percent approval. Craig Uhlenbrauck, vice president of marketing for Miron who works first-hand with all educational projects, could speak to their approach on this and any educational project in their portfolio.

What are Communities of Practice?

The Role of Partnership in Achieving Program Objectives: Issues and Challenges
This presentation was made at the USAID/East Africa partners meeting on July 1st 2009. The theme of the meeting was “Building Regional Alliances: Strengthening African Leadership” The presentation focus on the role partnerships play towards the achievement of program objectives, highlighting some of the issues and challenges of partnership. Starting with a key characteristic of partnership as a union of equals, the presentation traces partnership as a strategy that USAID has applied in its work with Africa since the agency was established. The presentation indicates that there is a perception gap in which US partners view their relationship with African partners with a high degree of satisfaction, while African partners are more reserved, identifying several concerns with their relationship with US partners. However, over time, the presentation indicated that, there have been major changes in the relationships between US and African partners. For example there is a significant shift in the degree of influence and responsibility that are now afforded African partners; as a well as recognition of the resource contributions by African organizations, such as knowledge of the environment, relationship with communities, and other stakeholders.

The Role of Partnership in Achieving Program Objectives: Issues and Challenges
This presentation was made at the USAID/East Africa partners meeting on July 1st 2009. The theme of the meeting was “Building Regional Alliances: Strengthening African Leadership” The presentation focus on the role partnerships play towards the achievement of program objectives, highlighting some of the issues and challenges of partnership. Starting with a key characteristic of partnership as a union of equals, the presentation traces partnership as a strategy that USAID has applied in its work with Africa since the agency was established. The presentation indicates that there is a perception gap in which US partners view their relationship with African partners with a high degree of satisfaction, while African partners are more reserved, identifying several concerns with their relationship with US partners. However, over time, the presentation indicated that, there have been major changes in the relationships between US and African partners. For example there is a significant shift in the degree of influence and responsibility that are now afforded African partners; as a well as recognition of the resource contributions by African organizations, such as knowledge of the environment, relationship with communities, and other stakeholders.

Through a mapping effort led by the Namibian Network for AIDS Service Organisations (NANASO), BLC conducted the first nationwide assessment of 234 civil society organizations. This provided data on registration, communication capabilities, and organizational capacity. The assessment strengthened NANASO's understanding of its constituency and ability to support members. It demonstrated how networks can better partner with organizations to assess needs and improve health service delivery.
