The document provides tips for reducing energy consumption and carbon emissions through resource efficiency. It recommends businesses alter their purchasing policies to only purchase equipment rated 'A' and consider whole life costs. For rented offices, it suggests discussing green leases with landlords to improve efficiency. It also introduces the Environmental Technologies List and Enhanced Capital Allowances, which incentivize purchasing efficient equipment by providing tax relief.

n recent months the media has been
whipping up a storm over how a carbon
tax will send us all into poverty. The view
has been that a carbon tax is yet another
lever for the government to pull to grab
more revenue and everyone and every
business is going to suffer from a price
being put on carbon.
Here are some realities:
• Australia has commitments under
the UN to reduce national greenhouse
gas emissions;
• Australia won’t be leading the world if it
introduces a carbon tax. Many countries
have already implemented a tax or
scheme for putting a price on carbon;
• A critical issue for businesses will be
keeping a competitive advantage in a
new tax regime.
The bottom line is that a carbon price
will be another risk for businesses to
manage. BUT in some instances, a price
on carbon will provide an opportunity,
both in forcing businesses to review and
update their operations to become more
efficient, and in providing new industries
and products to service a new carbon
regime. How can your business take
advantage of these opportunities?
In this article, I propose that SME leaders
(if they haven’t already) ought to consider
getting a view of how carbon flows
through their business. This will enable
an understanding of how a carbon price
is likely to impact your balance sheet.

Enterprise Excellence is Inclusive Excellence.pdfKaiNexus
Enterprise excellence and inclusive excellence are closely linked, and real-world challenges have shown that both are essential to the success of any organization. To achieve enterprise excellence, organizations must focus on improving their operations and processes while creating an inclusive environment that engages everyone. In this interactive session, the facilitator will highlight commonly established business practices and how they limit our ability to engage everyone every day. More importantly, though, participants will likely gain increased awareness of what we can do differently to maximize enterprise excellence through deliberate inclusion.
What is Enterprise Excellence?
Enterprise Excellence is a holistic approach that's aimed at achieving world-class performance across all aspects of the organization.
What might I learn?
A way to engage all in creating Inclusive Excellence. Lessons from the US military and their parallels to the story of Harry Potter. How belt systems and CI teams can destroy inclusive practices. How leadership language invites people to the party. There are three things leaders can do to engage everyone every day: maximizing psychological safety to create environments where folks learn, contribute, and challenge the status quo.
Who might benefit? Anyone and everyone leading folks from the shop floor to top floor.

Putting the SPARK into Virtual Training.pptxCynthia Clay
This 60-minute webinar, sponsored by Adobe, was delivered for the Training Mag Network. It explored the five elements of SPARK: Storytelling, Purpose, Action, Relationships, and Kudos. Knowing how to tell a well-structured story is key to building long-term memory. Stating a clear purpose that doesn't take away from the discovery learning process is critical. Ensuring that people move from theory to practical application is imperative. Creating strong social learning is the key to commitment and engagement. Validating and affirming participants' comments is the way to create a positive learning environment.

Carbon is big driver – everything has embedded carbon within it, from the energy taken to extract a raw material, the energy required for conversion, to transport and distribution of product.. Able to spend 12 hours working with a company but often it is more – our time is free. Consultants/capital changes will come at a cost later, if required. Market failure – many SMEs not willing to find out where going wrong by paying up front. This approach tries to highlight areas for development and then pass on to private companies. Netregs report - The majority of businesses (91%) believed that they did not undertake any activities that were harmful to the environment but the proportion of businesses that stated they did carry out harmful activities increased with the size of the business.

Aspirations to grow – companies who are growing, are planning for growth or may be looking at a step change into a new market. Given recession growth has been difficult so this is taken into consideration.
