This is an analysis that investigates the relations between climate change and global justice. Our main aim is to study the consequences of climate change affect issues of Global Justice such as equality, fair allocation of resources and the evaluation of the future.
Racial justice and the climate movement
A challenge as complex as climate change demands approaches that link its social and ecological dimensions. Importantly, the destructive effects of our fossilfuelbased way of life are uneven, harming some people more than others. The impacts of climate change are also uneven. For example, coastal storms, sea level rise, and drought disproportionately affect certain populations. Real solutions to the climate crisis will require a significant level of socioeconomic change, as we decarbonize many sectors of society including energy, agriculture, and transportation, to name a few. Socioeconomic restructuring on this scale raises the critical issue of equity: solutions must work for everyone.
To best create climate solutions that meet the needs of everyone, we must create space for historically less privileged populations to lead. A more inclusive and intersectional movement will allow all groups to learn how patterns of oppression and privilege operate in our society, as well as, understand how they intersect with environmental justice and the ability to influence public policy. It will also build trusting relationships that leverage the power of diverse alliances and intersections, broadening our work beyond the confines of singleissue environmental organizing.
To that end, this webinar will answer the following: “How can we honor the intersectionality of climate change in a way that invites historically excluded populations to lead us toward an unstoppable climate movement?” Participants will walk away with guidance and lessons learned from philanthropists and practitioners who are applying an inclusive and intersectional approach to strengthen their work.

GWP’s global strategy 2009-2013 argues that sustainable development will not be achieved without a water secure world. A water secure world integrates a concern for the intrinsic value of water with a concern for its use for human survival and well-being.
A water secure world harnesses water's productive power and minimises its destructive force. It is a world where every person has enough safe, affordable water to lead a clean, healthy and productive life. It is a world where communities are protected from floods, droughts, landslides, erosion and water-borne diseases. Water security also means addressing environmental protection and the negative effects of poor management.
A water secure world means ending fragmented responsibility for water and integrating water resources management across all sectors – finance, planning, agriculture, energy, tourism, industry, education and health. This integration is at the heart of GWP’s strategy.
A water secure world reduces poverty, advances education, and increases living standards. It is a world where there is an improved quality of life for all, especially for the most vulnerable—usually women and children—who benefit most from good water governance.

GWP’s global strategy 2009-2013 argues that sustainable development will not be achieved without a water secure world. A water secure world integrates a concern for the intrinsic value of water with a concern for its use for human survival and well-being.
A water secure world harnesses water's productive power and minimises its destructive force. It is a world where every person has enough safe, affordable water to lead a clean, healthy and productive life. It is a world where communities are protected from floods, droughts, landslides, erosion and water-borne diseases. Water security also means addressing environmental protection and the negative effects of poor management.
A water secure world means ending fragmented responsibility for water and integrating water resources management across all sectors – finance, planning, agriculture, energy, tourism, industry, education and health. This integration is at the heart of GWP’s strategy.
A water secure world reduces poverty, advances education, and increases living standards. It is a world where there is an improved quality of life for all, especially for the most vulnerable—usually women and children—who benefit most from good water governance.

This document discusses integrated water resource management and watershed management. It notes that watersheds are areas of land that drain to common water bodies, and that all living things within a watershed are interconnected. Fairfield City, located in south-western Sydney, straddles parts of the Georges River and Hawkesbury-Nepean River catchments, and is home to approximately 190,000 people. Parts of the City are extremely prone to flooding.
Fairfield City Council proactively manages flood risks in accordance with the NSW Government’s 2005 Floodplain Development Manual. Council’s floodplain risk management activities are overseen by the Fairfield Floodplain Management Committee. During the last six years alone, the Committee has supervised nearly $10 million worth of investment made in floodplain management.
Although there has been this considerable investment in floodplain management, the Fairfield City communities will never be totally protected from the impacts of flooding nor can emergency authorities such as the NSW State Emergency Service (SES) ensure the safety of all residents in all floods. Therefore, it is critical that through community education the flood-affected communities across the City are aware of the flood risk, are prepared for floods, know how to respond appropriately and are able to recover as quickly as possible.
With this in mind, Council received funding to engage a suitably qualified consultant to undertake Council’s Flood Education and Awareness project for the City. Molino Stewart Pty Ltd was engaged in April 2012 to carry out the project with the main output being a community flood education plan for the City.
Methodology and findings
Molino Stewart collected a range of data to gauge the current level of flood awareness and preparedness of residents within the City. A survey that sampled flood-affected residences and a community forum on flooding run by Straight Talk Pty Ltd were the primary means of assessing flood awareness and preparedness.
The social research showed that there are generally low levels of flood awareness and preparedness across the City. This is most probably largely due to lack of flood experience as the last major flood event to occur in the City was in 1988.
Other challenges for community flood education in the City include a large culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) population and the fact there is a relatively low level of internet usage within the City’s population.
Molino Stewart also conducted research into current best practice in community flood education to help inform the development of this plan. Research showed the need to adopt a disaster resilience learning approach with communities and this is the direction that Molino Stewart has taken in developing the plan.
Chris Hedemann, CDP Water Disclosure
Global water risks have greater and more widespread impacts as demonstrated by events like the Deepwater Horizon spill. We need collective action and relevant water risk information from companies to effectively manage global water risk. CDP seeks water disclosure from over 400 large global companies on behalf of 354 institutional investors representing $43 trillion in assets. Their 2010 findings show that while water issues are a current concern, many companies lack awareness of risks in their supply chains. However, water issues also present opportunities for companies. Canadian companies are increasingly engaging on water, though responses vary in sophistication. CDP water disclosure can help companies and investors improve their measurement and management of water issues.
Sustainable Resilient Energy Infrastructure
Presentation at "Sustainable Resilient Energy Infrastructure: Managing Growing Cities", an event in Washington hosted by the CSIS Energy and National Security Program on April 7, 2015. The event was part of the CSIS Global Sustainability Series, which investigates the role of the private sector in engaging with the U.S. government, host governments, and NGOs to help address some of the world's most complex global sustainable development issues.
PepsiCo: Delivering Access to Safe Water through Partnerships
In 2013, Pepsi announced that by teaming up with partners around the globe, it had provided access to safe water for more than three million people, meeting that goal more than two years ahead of schedule. Since then, it has doubled the original goal, and now intends to provide access to six million people by the end of 2015 through partnerships.
An important part of holistic water stewardship is advocacy through partnership. PepsiCo has formed strategic alliances with organizations including the United Nations Global Compact’s CEO Water Mandate, the World Business Council for Sustainable Development Water Leadership Group, the U.S. Water Alliance, Cambridge University, and many more.
In addition to PepsiCo’s business initiatives in key geographies, collaboration with a portfolio of water partners is instrumental to its progress. By seeking out and leveraging the strengths of its water partners, PepsiCo and the PepsiCo Foundation support and enable creative new strategies that achieve measurable and sustainable progress in the fight to alleviate water insecurity and provide access to safe water.
These initiatives include water conservation, distribution, purification, and hygiene for underserved communities in China, India, Mali, Brazil, Colombia and other Latin American countries. Statements of intent inspire and motivate, but effective action on the ground is where change happens. The greatest resource in this effort centers on key collaborations with a diverse and innovative core of water partners.

New report offers sobering view of the energy transition
Every year the Statistical Review of World Energy offers a behemoth of data on the state of the global energy market. This year’s findings highlight the world’s insatiable demand for energy and the need to speed up the pace of decarbonisation.
Here are our four main takeaways from this year’s report:
Fossil fuel consumption — and emissions — are at record highs
Countries burnt record amounts of oil and coal last year, sending global fossil fuel consumption and emissions to all-time highs, the Energy Institute reported. Oil demand grew 2.6 per cent, surpassing 100mn barrels per day for the first time.
Meanwhile, the share of fossil fuels in the energy mix declined slightly by half a percentage point, but still made up more than 81 per cent of consumption.
