Hippo Pathway Lab Report
Regulation of the Hippo YAP Pathway by G Protein Coupled Receptor Signaling
Review Lee Stunkard Organ size regulation has continued to remain elusive.
Recently, the Hippo pathway has been proposed to be involved in organ size
regulation. The Hippo pathway regulates the size of organs through controlling cell
number. A major downstream effector of the Hippo pathway is the transcription
coactivator Yes associated protein (YAP). YAP is responsible for upregulating genes
that promote cell proliferation and downregulating genes that promote cell apoptosis.
Elongated upregulation of YAP leads to hyperplasia and tumor formation. YAP is
inhibited by Lats 1/2 through phosphorylation of serine 127. When serine 127
becomes phosphorylated YAP binds to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Cell growth, migration, proliferation and mRNA levels of YAP regulated genes
were tested using LPA treated cells that had YAP/TAZ knockdown. Cell growth,
migration, proliferation and mRNA levels of YAP regulated genes were all
significantly repressed compared to the controls suggesting that LPA acts through
YAP/TAZ. Similar to YAP, TAZ was shown to localize in the nuclear fractions of
cells in immunofluorescence experiments. MST 1/2 and Lats 1/2 levels were tested
in response to LPA treatment. LPA was shown to inhibit Lats 1/2 but not MST 1/2 in
immunoblot experiments. Then to test how LPA and S1P were modulating YAP/TAZ
immunoblotting experiments were utilized. LPA and S1P were found to modulate
YAP/TAZ through G protein coupled receptor signaling and Rho GTPases. More
specifically, G12/13 receptors appeared to be most involved while Gq/11 receptors
were only slightly involved in dephosphorylating YAP/TAZ. On the other hand, Gs
receptors had the opposite effect, phosphorylating and inhibiting
Summary Of The Charge Of The Light Brigade At
Balaklava
The Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava by Lord Alfred Tennyson is a poem
about the historical battle that took place between British and Russia during the
Crimean War. Tennyson wrote the poem as a remembrance of the heroism and
bravery the British soldiers showed during the battle. The poem is well known for its
repetitive rhythm that is used to portray the sound of the charge. The repetition used
in the poem widely affects the rhythm, emotion, and story being told. Without it, the
poem could not have nearly portrayed the strength of the battle as well as it did.
This poem uses a technique known as falling rhythm. Falling rhythm is when the
stress is on the first beat of the line, and then falls off for the remaining words. This
can be deemed important because of the way it is a symbol for the fall of the British
troops. Although the rhyme scheme changes throughout the poem, Tennyson uses
very similar strategies within each stanza. He often rhymes the last word, and
sometimes even uses the same final word for many line. For example, When can
their glory fade! / Oh the wild charge they made! / All the world wondered. / Honor
the charge they made! / Honor the Light Brigade, / Noble six hundred! Even though
the stress is on the first beat, the last words of most of the lines rhyme, making the
whole line seem strong and complete each time we read it. Notice how he uses the
word made twice, and rhymes with that word 4 times. This helps the reader

Ontological Argument On The Existence Of God
Is God prevalent in modern philosophy? How can one determine such a conclusion
without definitive proof of it s existence. Within this essay I will be addressing the
topic of the existence of God, I will examine proofs such as the Ontological Argument
and Cosmological Argument. In doing so testing its advantages while also providing
contradictory arguments as posed by philosophers such as Kant and Hume.
The first ontological argument for the proof of Gods existence was posed by
St.Anselm of Canterbury (1033 1109 C.E), he reasons the existence of God from the
idea of a being than which no greater can be conceived . According to St.Anselm
God is defined as the greatest thing at which we could possibly imagine, moreover he
exists as an abstract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Following this premise all events and beginnings in this world are from direct
causation from a higher being, in this case God. The question in the root of this
argument is one involved with the matter of existence, Why do things exist? . The
KalДЃm argument is one which was favored by the Islamic tradition although later
revived later by the philosopher William Lane Craig. This argument basis itself on
the idea that everything in existence has a cause to it s existence, Stephen Law gives
the example that our parents are our direct cause. This leads us to the assumption that
the Universe began to exist and therefore has some direct causation of its existence,
in accordance to this argument only God fits that role. David Hume however
disagrees he explains that we can only establish truth through experience, thus we do
not have enough experience in this field or yet definitive proof, maybe our current
state of the universe needs direct causation however we do not have enough
knowledge of universal origins. Furthermore Bertrand Russel introduces the notion of
Infinite Regress , he says that the universe is just there and that s it maybe the world
we know is not that of an act of creation but rather that one caught in an infinite cycle
of regressed causes. This argument poses that we cannot accredit everything that has

Theme Of Fate In Romeo And Juliet
Love and betrayal, innocent lives were lost and the ultimate sacrifice. In the first
place, they are called star crossed lovers Shakespeare explains it s,fate it s one of
the first things they say. This leads on to that every small or big coincidence is fate
pulling the strings, so no matter what they will be star crossed lovers. Fate plays a
big role in The Tragedy of Romeo and Juliet, so much that it is the cause of all of
the deaths. In the beginning of the play Shakespeare points out that Romeo and
Juliet are star crossed lovers meaning that they were destined to die together. That
no matter what A pair of star crossed lovers take their life... (Prologue 6) everything
happened so perfectly to fulfill their fate. Right before the party, Romeo even
explains that he has a feeling like something will happen ...Some consequence yet
hanging in the stars Shall bitterly begin his fearful date... (I iv 107 108) Also Juliet
hints at it by saying, My grave is like to be my wedding bed... (I v 134))The
families of these two teenagers are enemies and they still end up liking each other.
Later on, a servant was asking someone to read a letter that just so happened to be
about the party. They heard about it and decided to crash the party. Tybalt arrives
and ends up hearing Romeo out of all the people there, This, by his voice, should
be a Montague. (I iv 53) Also, out of all the girls at the party, Romeo sees Juliet
first and immediately takes an interest forgetting about Roseline. The events after
the party, laid the groundwork for fate to take to two lovers lives. After the party,
Romeo went to go hide, and out of all the places he could ve hid it was right by
Juliet s window. Right after Benvolio and Mercutio left, Juliet went out and started
talking about Romeo. She pleads on page O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou
Romeo? Deny thy father and refuse thy name; Or, if thou wilt not, be but sworn
my love, And I ll no longer be a Capulet. (II, ii, 33 36) With Romeo being in the
perfect place he decides to stay, listen, and eventually he replies. Fate is causing all
these things to happen and putting people in the right place at the right time. Later on
in the play, Tybalt was looking for Romeo wanting to
Persuasive Essay On Cigarette Butts

Don t litter, it makes the world bitter!
Have you ever noticed as you re walking the amount of cigarette butts that litter the
ground? On the sidewalk, in the dirt, in the bushes, in a parking lot, on the beach,
near a river, or even surrounding a trash can. Probably not, if you weren t really
paying attention or because you honestly didn t care, but you should. Although
cigarette butts may seem harmless, they re just as dangerous as an actual cigarette.
They have the same toxins as a cigarette integrated into their filter, which can harm
and kill unsuspecting animals. The littering of cigarette butts must stop, we must
begin to take measures to prevent these small cylinder looking pieces of paper from
destroying our environment.
To start with, cigarette butts contain a form of plastic called cellulose acetate; this
plastic is non biodegradable, breaking down slowly, taking between 2 to 25 years to
even start breaking down. As well as, the toxins that are used in the filter, such as

Sales promotion is an activity designed to offer higher temporary value to the
customer; therefore, sales promotion management is a tool to supplement the pricing
strategy for communicating information to customers.
Personal selling is the most expensive method per customer contact to deliver
information to the market. It needs to find a new way of minimizing the costs
associated with the delivery of information to the customers. Thus promotional

Italian Music
With more than four and half million Italian immigrants arriving to American
between the years of 1876 1924, traditions, food, literature and an immense amount
of Italian culture was slowly spread nationwide. With that, Italian music was also
brought across seas. Music in New York City began developing rapidly during the
nineteenth century as the number of immigrants and residents steadily increased.
Italian music has become popular genre with many subdivisions. Italian music has
also become an influential genre of music on other types of popular music. The

Everything comes from somewhere, said Luger. He finds that his passion for jazz
music and Italian American music can be easily interconnected since all music
influences one another. One thing I found interesting about Luger s music is that
when I asked him to tell me more about the Italian music that he plays, he corrected
me, and stated that the music he plays should be referred to as Italian American
because Italian music has a broad range of styles. He said as much as he loves to
play instruments and sing, he is aware that he does not have an opera voice, which
would allow him to sing authentic Italian music. Classical Italian music is
considered to be Opera. Opera was born in Italy in 1600 during the Italian
Renaissance and by the late 16th century. Now, when thinking about Classical
Italian music, I think of one of the most famous Italian opera composers, Giuseppe
Verdi (1813 1901). Verdi s works are most noted for their emotional intensity, tuneful
melodies, and dramatic characterizations. Verdi transformed the Italian opera into a
unified musical and dramatic entity. Verdi composed over twenty eight operas.
Macbeth, a performance by Verdi based off the work of William Shakespeare, was a
popular show performed in New York Cityin the late 1800s. Verdi s works, along

Mummification Essay
Mummification is the form of embalming practiced by the ancient
Egyptians. The mummification process changed over time from the Old
Kingdom, when only kings could be mummified to the New Kingdom, in which
everyone could be mummified. The entire process of mummification to be
completed took 70 days. After a body was delivered to the per nefer, which is where
the embalmers conducted their tasks. The first thing that was done was put the
deceased on a slanted table.
The first thing that needed to be removed was the soft, moist body parts that would
cause decay. As the embalmers removed these parts, blood and other bodilyfluids
came out and went down the table being collected into a bowl. During the old and

The heart was sometimes left in the body, but other times it was removed and dried
with natron. Then it was either put back in the corpses body or placed beside it in
the coffin.
After the soft body parts were removed one of the embalmers would make an
incision in the left side above the abdomen. Although this was needed to remove
the organs, the Egyptians didn t like to do this incision because they thought that it
was sinful to damage a corpse. By making this incision they took out the stomach,
intestines, liver, and lungs. After they were taken out the embalmers would then
preserve it by drying them in a natural salt called natron which is now called baking
soda. In the Old Kingdom after they were dried, the embalmers would put the
organs in a four chambered box made of wood, clay, or stone. This box was stored
in the mummy s tomb. Then in the Middle Kingdom, the embalmers put each
organ in a separate container called a canopic jar. The stoppers of the jars were
carved o look like the face of the dead person. Then in the New Kingdom, the
stoppers of the canopic jars were carved to look like the heads of the four sons of the
god Horus. Then later on the canopic jars were placed in the four chambered chest.
By 1000 BC, the preserved organs were wrapped in linen and placed back in the
mummy s body. The empty
The Effects Of Haymarket Bombing On American Labor
Movement
In his book Death in the Haymarket, James Green recounted the American labor
movement in the late 1800s. The main focus of Green s book was the bombing of
Haymarket, which occurred on May 4 in 1886. Beginning as a peaceful protest
promoting the eight hour work day, a bomb was thrown causing devastating
consequences. The Haymarket bombing almost ended the labor movement
altogether, with unjustified trials and fear implemented amongst all Americans.
However, it is important to know that the Haymarket bombing is not just an isolated
event. From wage cuts to people going on strike, labor unions starting up, to almost
losing the labor movement altogether. The Haymarket bombing was the fuse to an
event larger bomb known as the labor movement. Although the Haymarket bombing
is an extremely important event, it should be seen in a much larger context rather
than an isolated event. The Haymarket bombing was an important incident in
America s history nevertheless, it falls under a much bigger category which is the
labor movement. The labor movement was started because of the unjust ways that
labor had on the working class in America during the 1800s. It first started out with
wage cuts for the working class in America, which then led to an increasing amount
of strikes. Then leading to the formation of labor unions, which is the people who
were attending the meeting at Haymarket the day of the bombing. So if the labor
movement had never started, then the bombing at Haymarket may have
College Students Dropout
As a college student, why would they go through the process of filling out
applications and paying all of that money, just to dropout? The contributing factors
that relate to college students dropping out are putting social and recreational
activities before class, students experiencing stress and paying for the cost of tuition.
Clearly, there are many factors that contribute to the high dropoutrate among college
students.
The first factor that contributes to the high dropout rate among college students is
students putting social and recreational activities before classes. In college, students
can participate in many recreational/social activities. Some of the options they have
to pick from are sororities/fraternities, intramural sports, clubs and sporting events.
All of these options take up time, which is why they need to balance out school and
recreational/social activities. Balancing out their education and activities or devoting
more time towards your education will be beneficial in the long run. It will be
beneficial in the long run since you won t fall behind in classes, since you are
making equal time for everything. Lack of study often leads to grades plummeting
drastically. The college studentcould decide to dropout due to the low grades all
because they invested too much time in the recreational/social aspect of college.
Clearly, students putting social and recreational activities before classes is a cause of
a college student dropping out of college.

Lytic Granules
Lytic granules are dual functioned organelles that not only store and secrete
cytotoxic molecules, but also degrade other proteins just like conventional
lysosomes (Blott and Griffiths, 2002, Burkhardt et al., 1990). Lytic granules seem
to be the only lysosome type organelle present in NK cells and CTLs, unlike in
melanosomes which contain both conventional and secretory lysosomes (Raposo et
al., 2007). For the proper functioning of the lysosomal enzymes, lytic granules also
have an acidic pH just like regular lysosomes. The pore forming molecule perforin
and the celldeath promoting molecule granzyme are localized in a dense core
domain, whereas the membrane associated and soluble lysosomal proteins are
contained in a multi vesicular cortical domain, as observed by electron microscopy
(Peters et al., 1991). The relative amounts of the multi vesicular cortex and the dense
core, however, vary considerably among lytic granules (Stinchcombe et al., 2000)....

The importance of ASMase has not been studied in NK cells yet, but it is
conceivable that this enzyme could catalyze a similar reaction to assist in granule
secretion. After the lytic granules release their contents into the synaptic cleft,
perforin and granzymes begin the lysis of the target cells. This process occurs in
and is likely facilitated by a cleft formed between the NK cell and target cell, which
likely serves the function of focusing these elements to the targeted cell (McCann et
al., 2003). Following lytic granule exocytosis, granule membrane proteins are
internally recycled, allowing the NK cells to create new lytic granules and recharge
the cytotoxic capacity for serial killing of targets (Liu et al.,
College Sports Proposal Essay
It is no secret that both education and sports enhance the overall development of a
person. In order to stay fit and healthy physically, mentally as well as emotionally,
sports need to be encouraged along with studies. I am in favor of the proposal to add
a new recreational facility over enlarging the student learningcenter in the college.
College sports will increase the college s potential to attract a larger pool of
candidates because there are a large number of students who are intelligent but also
love sports. This will increase diversity and the overall intelligence level of the
students applying for admission. College sports will also increase national
recognition through inter college tournaments. All of these can increase national
600 Muscles Fungus Movement
There are about 600 muscles in the body working together to create movement.
Muscle contractions pull both ends of the muscle towards one another. One bone
attached to each muscle is always more stabilized than the other. The less stabilized
bone moves during muscle contraction due to the weaker stability. The points of
attachment determine which bone will move. The least movable part is called the
origin; it is the part that attaches closer to the midline of the body. This leaves the
most movable part called the insertion. Each of these points can be identified in
individual muscles to assist trainers in understanding how the muscles and joints
work together to create motion.

Be that as it may, the single player mode is the only one which can quench the thirst
for a story rich game, in a self reliant environment, which is free from awkward and
problematic social miscommunication unlike two or multiplayer or massively
multiplayer modes.
Single Player Mode
First, the single player mode is typically largely story rich. Developers found a way
to engage lone players, by captivating them with a story background, often with an
unfolding story throughout the game. For example, in Ori and the Blind Forest,
the game begins with a touching story about Ori, the main protagonist. His
heartfelt story coupled with the enchanting musical score and artwork, plus the
often challenging obstacles a player must overcome, makes this platformer game
story rich and memorable. Similarly, some games include an interactive story,
where the player can select conversational responses or make detrimental decisions
as to how the character s morale develops and how the story goes. In the role
playing Fable series, the choices made by the player, dictate how the character
develops and how the story pans out. The player determines whether their character
is good or evil, in regards to the way their character responds to the built in
characters, or commonly referred to as artificial intelligence, in the game, along with
what personal, social and political choices they deem fit. Second, single player mode
offers players a self reliant environment.
Football North Essay
Entering the 2016 NFL season, the AFC North had statistically been the best
division in football in terms of average wins per season (8.35 wins per team) over
the past decade. Keep in mind that the division includes the hapless Cleveland
Browns, which have had one winning season over that span, and the feat becomes all
the more impressive.
During their decade run as the best division in football, the AFC North s success has
been predicated on tough nose defense and consistent quarterback play. Omitting the
Browns, AFC North teams all have franchise quarterbacks entering 2017 in Ben
Roethlisberger (15th season), Joe Flacco (10th season) and Andy Dalton (7th season).
However, despite continually solid production from the quarterback ... Show more

Although it s highly arguable that Flacco hasn t lived up to his monster contract, the
blame certainly shouldn t fall entirely on his shoulders.
In 2013, the once vaunted Ravens defense lost longtime leader Ray Lewis to
retirement, along with a record eight starters from the previous year s championship
squad. Following a disappointing 8 8 record that season, things got even worse for
the Ravens in 2014 with the Ray Rice s domestic violence fiasco, which significantly
hurt the franchise on and off the field.
Essentially, Baltimore has been an aggressively mediocre football team since their
magical postseason run in 2012 (32 34), which Flacco deserves partial blame for.
Yes, the Ravens quarterback hasn t exactly been provided with top tier weapons to
work with, but Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have put up MVP caliber numbers,
while leading their respective teams to the playoffs during seasons in which both had
much less support around them.
Entering 2017, Flacco loses yet another weapon in Steve Smith, and he ll need
Mike Wallace and free agency pickup Jeremy Maclin to pick up the slack. For a
team that loves to pound the rock, the Ravens are fairly thin in the backfield; but they
picked up Danny Woodhead in the offseason, who should help if he can stay healthy.
Defensively, the Ravens appear to be
The 1997 Film Adaptation Of Lolita
#1 The 1997 film adaptation of Lolita centres around the romance between middle
aged professor Humbert Humbert and a (very, very) young girl named Dolores
Haze. Taking place in 1947, the story starts when Humbert, a French literature
professor, begins living with the recently widowed Charlotte Haze. Being attracted
to young girls his whole life, Humbert marries Charlotte to be around her daughter
Dolores, who he calls Lo . Humbert and Lo then proceed to run away and go on a
sex filled motel hopping road trip before eventually settling in Beardsley, a college
town where Humbert gets a teaching job. Lo, becoming increasing bored with
Humbert and seeking adventure, leaves Humbert for a writer named Clare Quilty.
Three years pass and Humbert receives a letter from Lo asking him for money.
Quilty had tried to convince her to star in the child pornography he was producing,
and when she refused, abandoned her. Now with Lo married and pregnant,
Humbert tries to convince her to leave her husband to no avail. He then tracks
down and murders Quilty. As the film ends, Humbert dies in prison awaiting trial
and Dolores dies from complications in childbirth. The film was Directed by Adrian

Fatal Attraction and Indecent Proposal. Jeremy Irons co stars as Humber Humbert
alongside Dominique Swain, who plays Dolores Haze. The film was released in

Using Aweighted Graph Of A Graph
INTRODUCTION we define a graph as a collection of a number of vertices and
edges, and each of its edge basically connects a pair of its vertices. Whereas a tree
can be defined as an acyclic graph that is connected. The edges of a graph are
assigned with some numerical valuethat may represent the distance between the
vertices, the cost or the time etc. that is why it is called aweighted graph. An
acyclicgraph that is weightedis known as a weighted tree. The minimum spanning tree
(MST) in a weighted graph is called aspanning tree. In this graph the sum of the
weights of all the edges is minimum. Multiple MST are present in a graph, but all of
theseneedto have unique sum total cost. The problem in constructing MST in an
undirected, connected, weighted graph is one of the most known classic
optimization problems.Such problems can be solved by greedy or dynamic

Introduction
Describe the promotional mix used by two selected organisations for a selected
product or service.
Promotional Mix
The entire purpose of promoting products is to create awareness, persuade and
inform customers about your product or service while identifying key features
compared with competitive products. There are many benefits of performing
successful promotion such as increasing sales and acquiring a greater market share,
showing your products features and exposing competitive product s flaws, teaching
the market benefits of your product, explaining different usage of your product,
conveying your brand image of your organisation and promoting new and improved
features of your products.

Sponsorship is a cash in kind fee paid to a property normally in sports, arts and
entertainment in return for access to the commercial publicity associated with that
product. For example a company may provide equipment for a famous athlete and
ask in exchange for its logo to appear on its clothing and other assets in order for the
company to receive brand recognition.
Personal Selling
Personal selling is where a sales man actually comes to target market doors and
tries to promote and make a sale from his product. This method of selling is
perceived to be quite intimidating and often salesmen can be quite bullish in their
approach of the customer. A business that is looking to maintain its corporate image
will want to employ good salesmen that will not give off a bad aura when they are at
work.
Direct Market and Corporate Image Development
Corporate Image Development is the build up of an image and understanding of a
brand in people s minds. It is generally an accepted image of what a company stands
for. Marketing experts use public relations to further the image of the brand, this can
be done by the news, the media, journalists and online blogs. This publicity enables to
spark an interest among consumers, create share of mind, generate brand equity and
therefore create product sales.

Absolutist Essay
Thesis: James pursuit for absolute power gave him his success in Scotland but when
he arrived in England he failed in his fight against the parliament since they weren t
used to this type of governing.
James became King of Scotland in 1567. During his 25 years as King he was fairly
successful. He could peacefully enjoy absolute power under his reign in Scotland.
He makes these policies which will help him on his road to becoming king of England
. A new Challenge arises when he is chosen as King of England in 1603.
James was born in 1566 to Mary, Queen of the Scots. James had originally been
placed in the Scottish throne after his mother had been removed, he was 13 months
old. During his early years as king ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
At one point, James s main issue was that he didn t understand the rights or amount
of power the English parliament and because of that he was in constant conflict
with the Parliament. In four year as leader he duplicated Mary s debt. Due to his
altercations with the parliament James dissolved the Parliament four times. In
1610 when Robert Cecil, Earl of Salisbury proposed this Great Contract where
James would give feudal revenue to the parliament in exchange for a fixed sum.
This resulted in nothing but the parliament being dissolved. in 1612, Robert Cecil
died marking turning point in James reign because he would never have a chief
minister so powerful and experienced. In James Writing of The True Law of Free
Monarchies; or, The Reciprocal and Mutual Duty Betwixt a Free King and His
Natural Subjects he talks about his position and the respect people should have for
him and how he wants to lead his during his reign. James says how the Parliament

but craved by his subjects and only made by him at their rogation [act of
submitting a law for the king s acceptance.] by this he means that parliament do
have a certain amount of power but everything that they do is monitored by James.
In this passage, James refers to many of his beliefs that were listed before. For
example, Kings are called gods by the prophetical King
Oscar Hammerstein Research Paper
There are many well known lyricists and composers, but none of them have left a
mark on the theatre world like Rodgers and Hammerstein. The duo produced eleven
musicals during their partnership and made an extensive change in musical comedy.
They set a new standard that are still followed to this day in musical history. Before
they became the Rodgers and Hammerstein, they were Oscar Hammerstein IIand
Richard Rodgers, both of New York City. Oscar Hammerstein II was born on July
12, 1895. He was brought up in a theatrical family. His grandfather, Oscar
Hammerstein I, was a famed opera impresario. His father William managed a
vaudeville theater, and Uncle Arthur was a successful producer of Broadway

acquiring the rights, the team created a work with lengthy sequences of music and
made it into a bigger hit. On April 19, 1945, Carousel opened up on Broadway, and
it was an immediate hit with both critics and audiences. It ran for 890 performances
and duplicated its success in the West End, but it never achieved as much commercial
success as Oklahoma!. After the success of their first two musicals, they released

Anselm and the proof for the existence of God
Introduction In the middle ages there were many ideas of the existence of God but
there was one common thing that everyone knew, God existed. Although everyone
agreed that God existed, philosophers such Anselm tried to prove God s existence
anyway. In the passage Prosolgium, Anselm is trying to prove the existenceof God to
Ganilo by giving two approaches. The goal of the dialog is to prove that the
combination accepting that God exists and not believing that God exists is not
possible. The conclusion of Anselm s proofs are that God exists. In order to
understand where Anselm is coming from we have to have some background
information. Anselm is speaking to Ganilo about the fool, in other words the atheists,
that understands two important aspects of God. The first is that he accepts that claim
that God exists and the second is that he does not believe in the existence of God. The
next big piece of Anselm s proofs is his definition of God which is that than which
nothing greater can be thought . The definition is stating that it is not possible for
something greater then God to be thought. Knowing these two very important aspects
of information we can dive into the argument itself. Proofs for the Existence of God
As mentioned before, Anselm comes with two proofs for the existence of God and
we will start with the first proof. The first proof begins with Anselm s definition of
God which is that than which nothing great can be thought. The definition is saying

Characteristics Of Heroism In Mother Teresa
Heroism
Being a hero does not mean you have to run into a burning building and save four
people single handedly, while you re putting out the fire with your mind. Heroism in
today s world is seen in many forms. There are firemen and soldiers, fathers and
mothers, encouragers and uplifters. All these can be forms of true heroism. It is
simply becoming part of something bigger than yourself, just as Joseph Campbell
says, A herois someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than
oneself. The many qualities of heroism are selflessness, humility, fearlessness,
patience, and perseverance. These characteristics are evident in a lifestyle such as
Mother Teresa s.
Selflessness needs to be a bigger part of the world today. Too many people are so
absorbed with themselves that they don t prioritize helping out someone else in
need. A hero to me is someone who dives into action without regard for their own
safety. Not like a reckless behavior suicide mission, but a real thought out plan with
positive results, whether it be organizing a food and clothes basket or planning an
army mission in foreign countries. Selflessness is evident in Mother Teresa s life
everywhere you look. She risked catching incurable diseases, being a target to some
who hated her work, and she devoted all of her time to help others instead of herself.
Heroes can also be people who use words and patience instead of running into
burning buildings or going to war for our country, which are great
The Movement Of Virginia Woolf s Kew Gardens
The movement of Virginia Woolf s Kew Gardens is quite the mutineer towards the
traditional writing format of a beginning, middle and ending. Although, the story
does eventually end, Woolf creates a space in time within this story s reality where
there really is no beginning, nor a way to end it. We just become in the moment,
infinitely moving through space and time, observing all tiny details around us. To
analyze this story, we have to think of it as an abstract painting, and assume there
will be thousands of ways to articulate it, but no matter how long we spend looking
at it there will be still so much that we don t understand. That is the gist of how
inventively complex KewGardens is, and the only way we re going to decipher...

Within the first few sentences of Woolf s prose, we are immediately submerged into
a world of extreme detail, in the rich colors of the flowers and vegetation of a single
oval flowerbed, sitting in the center of the Royal Botanic Gardens of London:
From the oval shaped flower bed there rose perhaps a hundred stalks spreading into
heart shaped or tongue shaped leaves half way up and unfurling at the tip red or
blue or yellow petals marked with spots of colour raised upon the surface. (Woolf
1) The sheer detail of the imagery we are given here becomes clearer as we draw
closer and closer to the stock of a singled out flower. The narrator appears to have
found awe in the beauty of such flowers in nature based on these descriptions.
These vivid details come together to bring this scene to life by capturing the pure
aspects of the reader s senses: sight, smells, hearing, and feelings. The work of
Woolf s prose in this section of detail make the subjectivity and objectivity of the
narrative s voice as it focus on every little bright image that it finds moving or in
motion. In the next scene, we move further down to the ground of the flowerbed,

while Disney is certainly enjoyable for the young, it s also enjoyable for the young

British Soap Operas Essay
British soap operas are, of course, overly dramatic. In nearly every soap opera,
including the Eastenders, Coronation Street, Emmerdale, and The Archers the
characters constantly discuss money and drink excessively. Of course, these shows
are not made to be taken literally they are mindless entertainment, not serious social
commentary. However, behind the drama, they raise subtle questions about the nature
of Britain today: the clashes between cultures and religions, upper and lower classes,
and the young rebelling against the old. All of these things could be happening at the
very same time, and underlining all of these issues is the idea that no one should be
trusted. British people are often the victims of stereotype, but to watch... Show more

A bartender mixes cheap, terrible powdered drinks and tests it on customers in
order to make more money. One woman runs into the bar and demands alcohol,
shouting It s time to liven up this place (Newman). In Coronation Street, every
other scene features alcohol. Two young men, pessimistic about their futures,
guzzle beers in a room littered with empty beer cans. Two other characters pour
whiskey into a teapot and have straight alcohol teatime, complete with milk. In
Emmerdale, a depressed father meets the vicar in the pub for a drink. Of course,
alcohol consumption in these shows is never the cause of problem but it is
interesting to note that in most of the dramatic scenes, alcohol is consumed,
possibly fueling these confrontations. According to these shows, the only jobs

hairdressing, or waitressing. They usually spend their time working on ways to gain
more money, leaving their pubs and salons in jeopardy as they waste time and quid

investments, property trading, or developments and housing or about who should head
The Importance Of A Central Office That Supports

Module 6 Discussion
Discuss the make up of your central office and the ways roles are delegated in order
to have a smooth running central office that supports district mission and vision.
Our collective mission is to nurture and educate our children in accordance with all
curriculum standards to prepare them for responsible citizenship and success in life .
The district s strategic plan was created with the community after holding several
meetings with a variety of stakeholders and demonstrates the community s values as
well as integrating 21st century skills into the classroom so students can succeed in a
global economy. This was the first time our district included the community in
planning and the Superintendent and Director of Curriculum were new so it was a
positive change. I remember the notices we received via email encouraging teachers
to attend, however, many did not because our previous administration was very bold
about punishing those that did not agree with them. Over the past few years, the new
central office team has worked hard in trying to build trust by forming committees,
email communications, and surveys that are directly related to our goals. According
to the article, a transformation strategy is fundamentally about remaking what the
people in central offices do their daily work and relationships with school, (p. VI).
After interviewing many central office personnel, I can conclude that the central
office in my district follows a hierarchy as

Issues related to piracy, plagiarism, and netiquette
Brandon Vail
Piracy and plagiarism are both ways of stealing information from the internet.
Piracy is stealing and selling copyrighted software, books, etc. Plagiarism is
improperly citing, playing off someone else s work as yours, or not citing the source
of information you use to write a term paper or a newsletter for a business.
Netiquette, however is your etiquette ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
(2) At any given second, someone in the U.S or elsewhere could be finishing up an
illegal download of a movie. The punishments for misuse of computer ethics are very
severe, practically on the borderline for the cruel and unusual punishment
amendment. Which is exactly why this should be brought up to the federal courts.
Some of the key issues surrounding Piracy, Plagiarism, and Netiquette are severe, in
the sense that if correction is not brought about soon, society as a whole will suffer.

Social Rules For Dating
The social rules for dating have drastically changed over the years. In today s
society, dating has lost all of its meaning and has been overruled by the term hooking
up . Social media and texting have taken over the means of communicating face to
face and made our generation socially awkward. Since the arrival of new technologies
and the changing definitions of traditional dating, dating has become a more loosely
used term. According to The History of Dating , between the timeframe of 1900 and
1910 was the start of the dating era. As mentioned in the History of Dating, men
would address young women, who they were interested in, by stopping by their
house for a visit. The parents of the woman would oversee the couple s visitation and

George Caley set forth of the concept for a modern airplane than later on built some

Challenging Stereotypes
There is a spectrum presented here. The films in this class that we have seen
gradually became more and more vulgar, more and more obscene and it was our job
as film students to decide what that inherently meant. I spoke in the beginning of this
paper about the goals and responsibility of us film makers. Michael Brooks lists
these responsibilities as: Knowing Your Message, Challenging Stereotypes, Fairness
in Documentary, Providing Context and Reason, and lastly Being True to Your
Vision. (Brooks) All of these questions I asked myself when watching these films.
Were they challenging stereotypes? Were they providing context and reason behind
the choices made? In my opinion, the answer is not clear. In America, the issue of the

Under communism property disappears, which according to Kollontai, includes
institutions like marriage. In order to be a true communist, one must be able to
have sex freely, just as one is free from possessions and economic classes. All of
these films inherently create this look at communism in practice and all the flaws
it brings forth. Communism in thought is a perfect idea but in life it creates an
ideological argument that is just a façade. An ideology that argues for freedom,
but in practice does everything but. No wonder film after film in Eastern European
Cinema has been continuously advocating for liberation and freedom from these
socialist ideologies. I think it is reasonable to say that Kollontai s argument clearly
coincides with Coriliss argument about the amount of sex that should be present in
movies but one thing both forget to mention is the effectiveness? Yes, it is true that
the freedom to create the stories you want and the films you want stem directly
from the sexual liberation movement in Eastern Europe but once achieved, is sex a
necessary tool anymore? Do not get me wrong, I am not trying to insinuate that the
use of sex in film is no longer necessary, but for the reasons they did it for so long, is
the tool still
The Government Of Hong Kong Essay
There have been several solutions informed to the government of Hong Kong to
encourage green features such as communal gardens, sunshades and reflectors, wind
catchers and noise barriers. (Lo, 2005). The need for green architecture is expanded
within this book, justifying the demand in adopting sustainability within high density
cities. Energy efficient designs and renewable energysources in buildings have
become a world trend in striving for a sustainable future. (Lo, 2005) The inevitable
growing capacity of population and urbanization leads to perceiving high density
cities as a problem. However the sustainabilityintegration will help reduce the energy
usage, diminish the use of fossil fuels and develop new ways to designing
architecture.
4.
Do buildings and cities, in the way they are currently built, contribute to green
economy and growth? (Aboulnaga, 2014) The book illustrates how sustainability
enhances architecture in the long term, but also seeks for solutions such as renewable
energy, and promoting energy efficient buildings. There are features to classifying a
sustainable building, such as site and surroundings, energy efficiency, renewable
energy use, water consumption, materials etc.

Perhaps the implementation of sustainability in Hong Kong is appropriate due to

sacrament of baptism in their own ministry, including the ethical ramifications of
bearing witness to God s continuing salvation through baptism. The ultimate purpose
of the teaching design is for the learners to become the teachers.
Most RCA congregants are paedobaptized and grow up understanding the priority
of baptism. An RCA pastor should establish the historic Reformed understanding of
God s covenant. According to Genesis 17:7, I will establish my covenant between
me and you, and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an
everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. God made a
covenant with Abraham which extended corporately to all of Israel. Israel was
expected to follow God, love others, keep the Law, and proselytize Gentiles to
maintain covenantal status. Although God promised not to break God s covenant,
there were still expectations for Israel and when Israel did not meet these
expectations, God punished the nation. Additionally, God s covenantal call was
intended to start with Israel, but branch out to the rest of the world. Jesus comes as the
second Adam to fulfill this expectation and includes both Gentile and Jew into the
covenant. All are now one in Christ according to Galatians 3:27 28. How does
baptism play into this covenant? Brownson
Water Evenness
We found that water s edge contained a much higher species richness and Shannon
diversity index than the other two, but the evenness is lower than the other two. The
higher species richness and Shannon diversity index could be due to the diverse
vegetation growing around the pond. The lower evenness tells us that this site is less
diverse than the other two sites. Secondly, the wooded area contained slightly lower
species richness and Shannon diversity index than the water s edge; however, the
evenness was higher than the evenness at the water s edge. Due to the lower amount
of species and that the site is subject to runoff could cause the slight difference in the
species richness and Shannon diversity index. It also affects the higher... Show more

The high evenness is due to fewer species being present at this site. The results of this
lab supported my hypothesis that the water s edge would have the highest biodiversity
, the wooded area would have medium biodiversity, and the manicured lawn would
have the lowest biodiversity. The reason that the results support my hypothesis is
that the water s edge had a diverse vegetation around it for a variety of species to be
found. It also had the pond where species could be found. The wooded area
contained many layers of leave coverage which is good for some species but bad
for others. The wooded area is also subject to runoff which reduced the number of
small species that could be found on the ground. The manicured lawn is cut often
causing a reduced amount of species that would be found on the ground and not
enough trees to counteract the cutting affect. The biodiversity of the three sites are
comparable by the evenness being greater with low species richness. The sites are
also comparable by the shannon diversity index being higher as the species richness
is increased. An ecological explanation that we observed was that an area with low
evenness were less likely to interact with each other. The area with a higher evenness
would
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus ( Siv )
The Human Immunodeficiency Virus, HIV, is primarily a sexually transmitted
infection. It can also be spread by contact with infected blood, most commonly IV
drug users, or from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth or breast feeding.
When HIV weakens the immune system HIV develops into AIDS. The start of HIV
was said to come from a strain of DNA from Chimpanzee s to contain polio. HIV
/AIDShas become a widely spread virus that affects the human immune system.
Africa has had the greatest number of infected persons, both adults and children than
any other continent.
According to a ten year study finished in the year 2005; a strain of Simian
Immunodeficiency Virus (SIV) was found in a number of chimpanzee colonies in the

This pandemic was much more sufficient in Western Africa especially in areas
around Lake Victoria. This was rapid increase was caused by high ratio of men in
the urban population, lack of circumcision for the males, widespread labor migration,
low status of woman, and sexually transmitted diseases. The pandemic was thought
to spread so quickly because eighty five percent of sex workers were infected with
HIV. During the 1990 s the infection was booming in Southern Africa, since HIV had
been on the continent for a number of years, there were a few ideas about prevention
campaigns, but those were to minimum effect because there was no effective
treatment in Africa.
In 1999, Kenyan president Daniel Arap Moi declared that HIV was a nation disaster.
Eastern Africa HIV population was starting to drop off, Kampala HIV population had
fallen from 30% down to 12%.
In 2000, five pharmaceutical companies offered to help and reduce the prices on
the HIV drugs for all of Africa and other poor regions. These companies fought for
the lower prices to try and manufacture drugs for lower prices. This lead to generic
drugs that they would sell to the ones in need in Africa. This started a scare because
of the unstable health care they have in Africa.
The next problem was some did not know how to properly take these drugs or how
much to take. The distribution was one of many other problems the companies had,
because it was difficult
Matilda Wormwood Research Paper
In a small Buckinghamshire village, Matilda Wormwood is a six year old girl of
unusual precocity, but she is often ill treated or neglected by her parents. In
retaliation, she resorts to pranks such as glueing her father s hat to his head,
hiding a friend s parrot in the chimney to simulate a burglar or ghost, and secretly
bleaching her father s hair. At first, Matilda was naughty and used her powers to
revenge herself. Matilda has read a variety of books by different authors, especially
at the age of four, when she read many in six months including The Secret Garden,
Great Expectations, Nicholas Nickleby, Oliver Twist, Jane Eyre, Pride and
Prejudice, Tess of the d Urbervilles, Gone to Earth, Kim, The Invisible Man, The Old

Environmental Racism In The United States
To further expand our comprehension of the topic, we will look at various articles
and their stance on the issue of environmental racism. To begin, we will have a look
at an article written by Thomas Davies, Clean and White: A History of Environmental
racism in the United States which argues the importance of acknowledging climate
changeand pollution in the USA. He states that the USA is attempting to sober up
these practices by acknowledging that there is a huge issue at hand. Climate
change is a global issue that requires for sidelined issues of environmental racism
to be acknowledged as well for the entire issue to be fixed as a whole. There are
thousands of texts online that touch on this specific topic, and today, we will have a
look at a few more.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
which focuses on the question how do cultures justify environmental exclusion of
others from clean, healthy living and working space, or from other utilization of
natural and economic resources? This text discusses how those who do not adhere
to religion, specifically Judaism and Christianity are more likely to be a victim of
environmental racism. Essentially, those who do not direct their beliefs to either
religion will be subjected to environmental racism as a punishment and denied of
food, land, and are exposed to pollutants. She states that it is not the colour of your

you, then you will be punished by the
Issues Surrounding The Legalization Of Euthanasia
This essay will critically discuss slippery slope arguments with reference to the issues
surrounding the legalization of euthanasia. Firstly, the foundations of a slippery slope
argument will be discussed, along with the usual fallacious nature of this type of
argument, also to be discussed, is if slippery slope arguments ever provide good
reasons for accepting their conclusions. Secondly, euthanasiawill be introduced and
discussed, this will be done using an example of a slippery slope argumentby John
Keown from his book Euthanasia, ethics and public policy: and argument against
legalization. From this example, the moralityof euthanasia will be discussed as to
whether slippery slope arguments show that euthanasia is immoral. Lastly,
euthanasia will be discussed with reference utilitarianism, and if euthanasia would
potentially be viewed as a good or moral option by utilitarian theory or if it would
be viewed as immoral. Slippery slope arguments are often used to argue that if we
allow something to become legal we will be stepping onto the slippery slope to
allowing something viewed as morally wrong to also become legal. These
arguments are used often within society, although most of the time they are used in
a casual manner and the distance between point A and B is so large they are not
taken seriously, (Spielthenner, 2010; Jefferson, 2014). For that reason slippery slope
arguments as a general idea are not considered to be good logical arguments. So,

Hr and Termination Essay
GRADE: 76% Nice discussion of how the company might work with the employee
through progressive discipline, and of how just cause dismissal could be
implemented at the end of this process. Constructive dismissal is not recommended
due to the risks associated with it. Barnetson indicates (in the study guide) that
employers can lawfully terminate employment in three ways: just cause, non
culpable dismissal, and mutual consent, therefore, it would have been better to
discuss non culpable dismissal or mutual consent as your second option. See

The Kennett Delta Parade
Parade A parade is a public possession causing some of these to be celebrate for a
special day or event. People can even win prizes for being in them. I attended the
Kennett Delta Parade on September 29th. I really enjoyed watching it! I thought it
was the longest parade, but it had so much entertainment. In summary, the parade
included the police department, tractors, modern cars, floats, marching units,
school bands, school clubs, and sport teams from different areas. The parade even
carried the delta fair queen and maids. My favorite section of the parade were the
floats considering some people get so creative decorating. The floats were
awarded. First place won $1000, second place won $600, third place won $450,
fourth place won $350, and fifth place won $250. Some people bring in their
competitive side, which makes it really amusing to watch. At the same time, I felt
like I was part of the community when I attended the Kennett Delta Parade.
Parades combine some of my favorite things: community, faith, family, patriotism,
and simply being involved. Events like these bring everyone together. However, I
chose this specific event because I show up every year and really enjoy coming to
watch. Not only is it thrilling, but it also keeps me from staying home. I will
continue to attend to this event in the future because every year it is different. I
surely do not plan on missing any of it. The sensation of the Kennett Delta Fair
Parade is something I look forward to every year.
Analysis Of The Book Dreams By Christopher Nolan
Running head: INCEPTION PERCEPTION
Inception Perception
Olivia Young 29 02
AP Psychology Inception Perception Inception is a film about dreams and being
able to explore people s subconscious by entering their dreams directed by
Christopher Nolan (Nolan, 2010). Dom Cobb is the main character who must plant
an idea into a billionaire s son s mind, to break up his father s empire. This is not
Cobb s motive though, he is only doing this to be able to return to his children. He
needs the pardon from Saito, who hired him to perform the inception, because he is
believed to have killed his wife. The truth is that she killed herself and left in her will
that he killed her, to encourage Cobb to commit suicide with her. She believed that...

The idea of exploring someone s subconscious is the dream state, which is when you
enter someone s dream. This is designed by the architect and filled with projections
of the person s subconscious. In the state, your conscious is lowered and if not
previously informed of entering the dream state, you will perceive it as reality. If
you enter a dream within a dream, you are delving deeper into the person s
subconscious. That is where secrets and important information is kept within your
layers of consciousness. If you delve deep enough, you will reach the edge of your
subconscious. This is dangerous though because to return to reality, you need the
kick to be synchronized among all the layers of the subconscious. If you spend too
long in the dream state, the lines of reality and dreaming can become blurred. In
the movie, Cobb and his team are delving into Fischer s subconscious to plant the
idea for him to break up his father s empire (Nolan, 2010). To do this, they must go
very deep and plant the simplest of ideas, so his subconscious will run with it so
consciously he will make the decision. They used him and his father s relationship,
because that is the root of the idea they need to plant. It is not revealed in the movie
though if the inception worked (Nolan, 2010). To be conscious is to have awareness
of ourselves and our environment (Myers, 2011). Freud proposed the idea the our
conscious was divided into the conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. The
Comparison And Contrast Of Art
Comparison and Contrast of Art
Art is able to transport its viewer through time and connect us as a community.
Audiences are able to infer the content and context of the artwork. Art displayed
through different mediums and about different topics can share many similarities and
draw connections between one another. Exodus, created by Shelby Lechman (2015),
uses oil paint on canvas to depict a young boy and father in a train car, leaving their
home in Hungary during the time of the Hungarian Revolution (fig.1). Back into the
Earth: Creation and the Interpretation of Meaning, created by Tamara Himmelspach
(2015) is a series of 11 prints and a physical dress displaying the designer in a jingle

However, further connection in context and content can be developed when
analyzing the connection of the works roots and art in history. Exodus exhibits the
reality of human suffering as a result of war and oppression during the Hungarian
Revolution. The historical relevance of this work dives into a deeper significance
than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for power signified in Exodus
also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced their
traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave
their country, Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants.
The human experience is key in understanding and studying art. Besides the main
styles and usage in appearance, the connection to a point in time and the influence of
that time allows the audience to connect with the artist and the characteristics of the
artwork. Audiences are able to connect past themes to present day issues, such as the
difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous Native American women
who have gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident in both
works despite their different purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and
barriers of past, present are future are removed when audiences are able to interpret
the work from any point in time and understand the significance of its visual and non
visual means.
Hashimoto Thyroiditis Research Paper
Hashimoto Thyroiditis also known as Hashimoto s disease named after Hakarum
Hashimoto back in 1912, is an Autoimmune Lymphocytic infiltration of the thyroid
gland by antithyroid autoantibodies. It is highly likely for a person to develop
Hypothyroidism as a result of the autoantibodies attacking the thyroid and keeping
the thyroid from producing the amount of hormones our bodies need. As stated in
the Ear, Nose and Throat Journal Approximately 5% of the general population has
hypothyroidism, with Hashimoto thyroiditis the most common cause. (2) The
journal also goes on to say how women are affected disproportionately with a ratio
of 10:1. While there is not a definite cause of Hashimoto s it has been researched
that majority of people who have the disease have a family member who also suffer
from thyroid disease, suggesting that it could be genetic.... Show more content on

Some women have thyroid problems for the first year after having a baby,
although majority of the problem tends to go away after time it has been
researched that as many as 20% of these women will develop Hashimoto s years
later. (3) As well excessive iodine and radiation exposure can play a role in helping
with thyroid diseases that can eventually lean towards Hashimoto s in the future.
Hashimoto s can take years to develop and can be associated with many conditions
such as diabetes mellitus type1, autoimmune adrenal insufficiency (Addison disease),
atrophic body gastritis and many more. It is prevalent that in majority of the cases of
Hashimoto s the person has already had some type of encounter with a thyroid
problem rather it be hypothyroidism or hyperthyroidism, the problem never really
went away it just evolved in time into

Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy
10 December 2015
Abstract One of Director Park Chan Wook s most renowned works is the film
Oldboy (2003). At face value, this film appears to be a regular mystery thriller film.
However, after further analysis, there are many parallels to contemporary Korean
history and society. These parallels, or allegories, become more apparent upon
review of the film. The film contains references to Korea s tumultuous history and
contemporary culture, highlighting the multiple disappointments felt by the Korean
people (Seth). The main character Oh Dae su also stands in for the average Korean
citizen while his adversary, Lee Woo jin, represents upper class citizens, or chaebols,
in Korea. After analyzing these points, this paper argues that Oldboy does in fact
serve as a socio political allegory for problems faced in contemporary Korea.
Problems that are addressed include democratization, class structure and privilege,
capitalism, and the importance of power and money in Korea (Kim).
Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy While films are primarily for
entertainment, they often also stand as an excellent medium for spreading awareness
about social issues. It is often seen in cinema that a small point or effect actually has
a much larger meaning. Historically, directors have used to raise awareness and
spread knowledge about social issues.

  • 3. Hippo Pathway Lab Report Regulation of the Hippo YAP Pathway by G Protein Coupled Receptor Signaling Review Lee Stunkard Organ size regulation has continued to remain elusive. Recently, the Hippo pathway has been proposed to be involved in organ size regulation. The Hippo pathway regulates the size of organs through controlling cell number. A major downstream effector of the Hippo pathway is the transcription coactivator Yes associated protein (YAP). YAP is responsible for upregulating genes that promote cell proliferation and downregulating genes that promote cell apoptosis. Elongated upregulation of YAP leads to hyperplasia and tumor formation. YAP is inhibited by Lats 1/2 through phosphorylation of serine 127. When serine 127 becomes phosphorylated YAP binds to... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Cell growth, migration, proliferation and mRNA levels of YAP regulated genes were tested using LPA treated cells that had YAP/TAZ knockdown. Cell growth, migration, proliferation and mRNA levels of YAP regulated genes were all significantly repressed compared to the controls suggesting that LPA acts through YAP/TAZ. Similar to YAP, TAZ was shown to localize in the nuclear fractions of cells in immunofluorescence experiments. MST 1/2 and Lats 1/2 levels were tested in response to LPA treatment. LPA was shown to inhibit Lats 1/2 but not MST 1/2 in immunoblot experiments. Then to test how LPA and S1P were modulating YAP/TAZ immunoblotting experiments were utilized. LPA and S1P were found to modulate YAP/TAZ through G protein coupled receptor signaling and Rho GTPases. More specifically, G12/13 receptors appeared to be most involved while Gq/11 receptors were only slightly involved in dephosphorylating YAP/TAZ. On the other hand, Gs receptors had the opposite effect, phosphorylating and inhibiting
  • 4. Summary Of The Charge Of The Light Brigade At Balaklava The Charge of the Light Brigade at Balaklava by Lord Alfred Tennyson is a poem about the historical battle that took place between British and Russia during the Crimean War. Tennyson wrote the poem as a remembrance of the heroism and bravery the British soldiers showed during the battle. The poem is well known for its repetitive rhythm that is used to portray the sound of the charge. The repetition used in the poem widely affects the rhythm, emotion, and story being told. Without it, the poem could not have nearly portrayed the strength of the battle as well as it did. This poem uses a technique known as falling rhythm. Falling rhythm is when the stress is on the first beat of the line, and then falls off for the remaining words. This can be deemed important because of the way it is a symbol for the fall of the British troops. Although the rhyme scheme changes throughout the poem, Tennyson uses very similar strategies within each stanza. He often rhymes the last word, and sometimes even uses the same final word for many line. For example, When can their glory fade! / Oh the wild charge they made! / All the world wondered. / Honor the charge they made! / Honor the Light Brigade, / Noble six hundred! Even though the stress is on the first beat, the last words of most of the lines rhyme, making the whole line seem strong and complete each time we read it. Notice how he uses the word made twice, and rhymes with that word 4 times. This helps the reader

  • 6. Ontological Argument On The Existence Of God Is God prevalent in modern philosophy? How can one determine such a conclusion without definitive proof of it s existence. Within this essay I will be addressing the topic of the existence of God, I will examine proofs such as the Ontological Argument and Cosmological Argument. In doing so testing its advantages while also providing contradictory arguments as posed by philosophers such as Kant and Hume. The first ontological argument for the proof of Gods existence was posed by St.Anselm of Canterbury (1033 1109 C.E), he reasons the existence of God from the idea of a being than which no greater can be conceived . According to St.Anselm God is defined as the greatest thing at which we could possibly imagine, moreover he exists as an abstract ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Following this premise all events and beginnings in this world are from direct causation from a higher being, in this case God. The question in the root of this argument is one involved with the matter of existence, Why do things exist? . The KalДЃm argument is one which was favored by the Islamic tradition although later revived later by the philosopher William Lane Craig. This argument basis itself on the idea that everything in existence has a cause to it s existence, Stephen Law gives the example that our parents are our direct cause. This leads us to the assumption that the Universe began to exist and therefore has some direct causation of its existence, in accordance to this argument only God fits that role. David Hume however disagrees he explains that we can only establish truth through experience, thus we do not have enough experience in this field or yet definitive proof, maybe our current state of the universe needs direct causation however we do not have enough knowledge of universal origins. Furthermore Bertrand Russel introduces the notion of Infinite Regress , he says that the universe is just there and that s it maybe the world we know is not that of an act of creation but rather that one caught in an infinite cycle of regressed causes. This argument poses that we cannot accredit everything that has

Later on, a servant was asking someone to read a letter that just so happened to be about the party. They heard about it and decided to crash the party. Tybalt arrives and ends up hearing Romeo out of all the people there, This, by his voice, should be a Montague. (I iv 53) Also, out of all the girls at the party, Romeo sees Juliet first and immediately takes an interest forgetting about Roseline. The events after the party, laid the groundwork for fate to take to two lovers lives. After the party, Romeo went to go hide, and out of all the places he could ve hid it was right by Juliet s window. Right after Benvolio and Mercutio left, Juliet went out and started talking about Romeo. She pleads on page O Romeo, Romeo! wherefore art thou Romeo? Fate is causing all these things to happen and putting people in the right place at the right time. Later on in the play, Tybalt was looking for Romeo wanting to

One thing I found interesting about Luger s music is that when I asked him to tell me more about the Italian music that he plays, he corrected me, and stated that the music he plays should be referred to as Italian American because Italian music has a broad range of styles. He said as much as he loves to play instruments and sing, he is aware that he does not have an opera voice, which would allow him to sing authentic Italian music. Classical Italian music is considered to be Opera. Opera was born in Italy in 1600 during the Italian Renaissance and by the late 16th century. Now, when thinking about Classical Italian music, I think of one of the most famous Italian opera composers, Giuseppe Verdi (1813 1901). Verdi s works are most noted for their emotional intensity, tuneful melodies, and dramatic characterizations. Verdi transformed the Italian opera into a unified musical and dramatic entity. Verdi composed over twenty eight operas. Macbeth, a performance by Verdi based off the work of William Shakespeare, was a popular show performed in New York Cityin the late 1800s. • 12. Mummification Essay Mummification is the form of embalming practiced by the ancient Egyptians. The mummification process changed over time from the Old Kingdom, when only kings could be mummified to the New Kingdom, in which everyone could be mummified. The entire process of mummification to be completed took 70 days. After a body was delivered to the per nefer, which is where the embalmers conducted their tasks. The first thing that was done was put the deceased on a slanted table. The first thing that needed to be removed was the soft, moist body parts that would cause decay. Then it was either put back in the corpses body or placed beside it in the coffin. After the soft body parts were removed one of the embalmers would make an incision in the left side above the abdomen. Although this was needed to remove the organs, the Egyptians didn t like to do this incision because they thought that it was sinful to damage a corpse. By making this incision they took out the stomach, intestines, liver, and lungs. After they were taken out the embalmers would then preserve it by drying them in a natural salt called natron which is now called baking soda. In the Old Kingdom after they were dried, the embalmers would put the organs in a four chambered box made of wood, clay, or stone. This box was stored in the mummy s tomb. Then in the Middle Kingdom, the embalmers put each organ in a separate container called a canopic jar. The stoppers of the jars were carved o look like the face of the dead person. Then in the New Kingdom, the stoppers of the canopic jars were carved to look like the heads of the four sons of the god Horus. Then later on the canopic jars were placed in the four chambered chest. By 1000 BC, the preserved organs were wrapped in linen and placed back in the mummy s body. The empty
  • 13. The Effects Of Haymarket Bombing On American Labor Movement In his book Death in the Haymarket, James Green recounted the American labor movement in the late 1800s. The main focus of Green s book was the bombing of Haymarket, which occurred on May 4 in 1886. Beginning as a peaceful protest promoting the eight hour work day, a bomb was thrown causing devastating consequences. The Haymarket bombing almost ended the labor movement altogether, with unjustified trials and fear implemented amongst all Americans. However, it is important to know that the Haymarket bombing is not just an isolated event. From wage cuts to people going on strike, labor unions starting up, to almost losing the labor movement altogether. The Haymarket bombing was the fuse to an event larger bomb known as the labor movement. Although the Haymarket bombing is an extremely important event, it should be seen in a much larger context rather than an isolated event. The Haymarket bombing was an important incident in America s history nevertheless, it falls under a much bigger category which is the labor movement. The labor movement was started because of the unjust ways that labor had on the working class in America during the 1800s. It first started out with wage cuts for the working class in America, which then led to an increasing amount of strikes. Then leading to the formation of labor unions, which is the people who were attending the meeting at Haymarket the day of the bombing. So if the labor movement had never started, then the bombing at Haymarket may have

The contributing factors that relate to college students dropping out are putting social and recreational activities before class, students experiencing stress and paying for the cost of tuition. Clearly, there are many factors that contribute to the high dropoutrate among college students. The first factor that contributes to the high dropout rate among college students is students putting social and recreational activities before classes. In college, students can participate in many recreational/social activities. Some of the options they have to pick from are sororities/fraternities, intramural sports, clubs and sporting events. All of these options take up time, which is why they need to balance out school and recreational/social activities. Balancing out their education and activities or devoting more time towards your education will be beneficial in the long run. It will be beneficial in the long run since you won t fall behind in classes, since you are making equal time for everything. Lack of study often leads to grades plummeting drastically. The college studentcould decide to dropout due to the low grades all because they invested too much time in the recreational/social aspect of college. Clearly, students putting social and recreational activities before classes is a cause of a college student dropping out of college. The
  • 15. Lytic Granules Lytic granules are dual functioned organelles that not only store and secrete cytotoxic molecules, but also degrade other proteins just like conventional lysosomes (Blott and Griffiths, 2002, Burkhardt et al., 1990). Lytic granules seem to be the only lysosome type organelle present in NK cells and CTLs, unlike in melanosomes which contain both conventional and secretory lysosomes (Raposo et al., 2007). For the proper functioning of the lysosomal enzymes, lytic granules also have an acidic pH just like regular lysosomes. The pore forming molecule perforin and the celldeath promoting molecule granzyme are localized in a dense core domain, whereas the membrane associated and soluble lysosomal proteins are contained in a multi vesicular cortical domain, as observed by electron microscopy (Peters et al., 1991). The relative amounts of the multi vesicular cortex and the dense core, however, vary considerably among lytic granules (Stinchcombe et al., 2000).... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The importance of ASMase has not been studied in NK cells yet, but it is conceivable that this enzyme could catalyze a similar reaction to assist in granule secretion. After the lytic granules release their contents into the synaptic cleft, perforin and granzymes begin the lysis of the target cells. This process occurs in and is likely facilitated by a cleft formed between the NK cell and target cell, which likely serves the function of focusing these elements to the targeted cell (McCann et al., 2003). Following lytic granule exocytosis, granule membrane proteins are internally recycled, allowing the NK cells to create new lytic granules and recharge the cytotoxic capacity for serial killing of targets (Liu et al.,

College sports will increase the college s potential to attract a larger pool of candidates because there are a large number of students who are intelligent but also love sports. This will increase diversity and the overall intelligence level of the students applying for admission. College sports will also increase national recognition through inter college tournaments. One bone attached to each muscle is always more stabilized than the other. The less stabilized bone moves during muscle contraction due to the weaker stability. The points of attachment determine which bone will move. The least movable part is called the origin; it is the part that attaches closer to the midline of the body. Consequently, games have evolved beyond graphics alone. Now games come packed with achievements, leaderboards, side quests, in game shops, customizable characters, and a chock full of other options, including the use of real world money to buy items for a character. Be that as it may, the single player mode is the only one which can quench the thirst for a story rich game, in a self reliant environment, which is free from awkward and problematic social miscommunication unlike two or multiplayer or massively multiplayer modes. Single Player Mode First, the single player mode is typically largely story rich. Developers found a way to engage lone players, by captivating them with a story background, often with an unfolding story throughout the game. For example, in Ori and the Blind Forest, the game begins with a touching story about Ori, the main protagonist. His heartfelt story coupled with the enchanting musical score and artwork, plus the often challenging obstacles a player must overcome, makes this platformer game story rich and memorable. Similarly, some games include an interactive story, where the player can select conversational responses or make detrimental decisions as to how the character s morale develops and how the story goes. In the role playing Fable series, the choices made by the player, dictate how the character develops and how the story pans out. The player determines whether their character is good or evil, in regards to the way their character responds to the built in characters, or commonly referred to as artificial intelligence, in the game, along with what personal, social and political choices they deem fit. Second, single player mode offers players a self reliant environment.

Football North Essay Entering the 2016 NFL season, the AFC North had statistically been the best division in football in terms of average wins per season (8.35 wins per team) over the past decade. Keep in mind that the division includes the hapless Cleveland Browns, which have had one winning season over that span, and the feat becomes all the more impressive. During their decade run as the best division in football, the AFC North s success has been predicated on tough nose defense and consistent quarterback play. Although it s highly arguable that Flacco hasn t lived up to his monster contract, the blame certainly shouldn t fall entirely on his shoulders. In 2013, the once vaunted Ravens defense lost longtime leader Ray Lewis to retirement, along with a record eight starters from the previous year s championship squad. Following a disappointing 8 8 record that season, things got even worse for the Ravens in 2014 with the Ray Rice s domestic violence fiasco, which significantly hurt the franchise on and off the field. Essentially, Baltimore has been an aggressively mediocre football team since their magical postseason run in 2012 (32 34), which Flacco deserves partial blame for. Yes, the Ravens quarterback hasn t exactly been provided with top tier weapons to work with, but Aaron Rodgers and Tom Brady have put up MVP caliber numbers, while leading their respective teams to the playoffs during seasons in which both had much less support around them. Entering 2017, Flacco loses yet another weapon in Steve Smith, and he ll need Mike Wallace and free agency pickup Jeremy Maclin to pick up the slack. For a team that loves to pound the rock, the Ravens are fairly thin in the backfield; but they picked up Danny Woodhead in the offseason, who should help if he can stay healthy. Taking place in 1947, the story starts when Humbert, a French literature professor, begins living with the recently widowed Charlotte Haze. Being attracted to young girls his whole life, Humbert marries Charlotte to be around her daughter Dolores, who he calls Lo . Humbert and Lo then proceed to run away and go on a sex filled motel hopping road trip before eventually settling in Beardsley, a college town where Humbert gets a teaching job. Lo, becoming increasing bored with Humbert and seeking adventure, leaves Humbert for a writer named Clare Quilty. Three years pass and Humbert receives a letter from Lo asking him for money. Quilty had tried to convince her to star in the child pornography he was producing, and when she refused, abandoned her. • 21. Using Aweighted Graph Of A Graph INTRODUCTION we define a graph as a collection of a number of vertices and edges, and each of its edge basically connects a pair of its vertices. Whereas a tree can be defined as an acyclic graph that is connected. The edges of a graph are assigned with some numerical valuethat may represent the distance between the vertices, the cost or the time etc. that is why it is called aweighted graph. An acyclicgraph that is weightedis known as a weighted tree. The minimum spanning tree (MST) in a weighted graph is called aspanning tree. In this graph the sum of the weights of all the edges is minimum. Multiple MST are present in a graph, but all of theseneedto have unique sum total cost. The problem in constructing MST in an undirected, connected, weighted graph is one of the most known classic optimization problems.Such problems can be solved by greedy or dynamic algorithms within polynomial time.In 1926, first practical problem related to the MST was identified by Boruvka. But now, there are several practically relatedalternatives of the MST problem that were verified to belong to the NP hard class. For an instance the Degree Constrained MST problem [2],Bounded Diameter MST (BDMST) problem framed by the researchers named: Nghia and Binh [2], and the Capacitated Minimum SpanningTree problem [2]. Another one called the deterministic MST problem has also been well calculated and many effective algorithms have beenintroduced by many researchers. However, the Kruskal s algorithm and

Although everyone agreed that God existed, philosophers such Anselm tried to prove God s existence anyway. In the passage Prosolgium, Anselm is trying to prove the existenceof God to Ganilo by giving two approaches. The goal of the dialog is to prove that the combination accepting that God exists and not believing that God exists is not possible. The conclusion of Anselm s proofs are that God exists. In order to understand where Anselm is coming from we have to have some background information. Anselm is speaking to Ganilo about the fool, in other words the atheists, that understands two important aspects of God. The first is that he accepts that claim that God exists and the second is that he does not believe in the existence of God. The next big piece of Anselm s proofs is his definition of God which is that than which nothing greater can be thought . The definition is stating that it is not possible for something greater then God to be thought. Knowing these two very important aspects of information we can dive into the argument itself. Proofs for the Existence of God As mentioned before, Anselm comes with two proofs for the existence of God and we will start with the first proof. Characteristics Of Heroism In Mother Teresa Heroism Being a hero does not mean you have to run into a burning building and save four people single handedly, while you re putting out the fire with your mind. Heroism in today s world is seen in many forms. There are firemen and soldiers, fathers and mothers, encouragers and uplifters. All these can be forms of true heroism. It is simply becoming part of something bigger than yourself, just as Joseph Campbell says, A herois someone who has given his or her life to something bigger than oneself. The many qualities of heroism are selflessness, humility, fearlessness, patience, and perseverance. These characteristics are evident in a lifestyle such as Mother Teresa s. Selflessness needs to be a bigger part of the world today. Too many people are so absorbed with themselves that they don t prioritize helping out someone else in need. A hero to me is someone who dives into action without regard for their own safety. Not like a reckless behavior suicide mission, but a real thought out plan with positive results, whether it be organizing a food and clothes basket or planning an army mission in foreign countries. Selflessness is evident in Mother Teresa s life everywhere you look. She risked catching incurable diseases, being a target to some who hated her work, and she devoted all of her time to help others instead of herself. Heroes can also be people who use words and patience instead of running into burning buildings or going to war for our country, which are great

Although, the story does eventually end, Woolf creates a space in time within this story s reality where there really is no beginning, nor a way to end it. We just become in the moment, infinitely moving through space and time, observing all tiny details around us. To analyze this story, we have to think of it as an abstract painting, and assume there will be thousands of ways to articulate it, but no matter how long we spend looking at it there will be still so much that we don t understand. The ultimate purpose of the teaching design is for the learners to become the teachers. Most RCA congregants are paedobaptized and grow up understanding the priority of baptism. An RCA pastor should establish the historic Reformed understanding of God s covenant. According to Genesis 17:7, I will establish my covenant between me and you, and your offspring after you throughout their generations, for an everlasting covenant, to be God to you and to your offspring after you. God made a covenant with Abraham which extended corporately to all of Israel. Israel was expected to follow God, love others, keep the Law, and proselytize Gentiles to maintain covenantal status. Although God promised not to break God s covenant, there were still expectations for Israel and when Israel did not meet these expectations, God punished the nation. Additionally, God s covenantal call was intended to start with Israel, but branch out to the rest of the world. Jesus comes as the second Adam to fulfill this expectation and includes both Gentile and Jew into the covenant. All are now one in Christ according to Galatians 3:27 28. How does baptism play into this covenant? Brownson

The higher species richness and Shannon diversity index could be due to the diverse vegetation growing around the pond. The lower evenness tells us that this site is less diverse than the other two sites. Secondly, the wooded area contained slightly lower species richness and Shannon diversity index than the water s edge; however, the evenness was higher than the evenness at the water s edge. Due to the lower amount of species and that the site is subject to runoff could cause the slight difference in the species richness and Shannon diversity index. It also affects the higher... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The high evenness is due to fewer species being present at this site. The results of this lab supported my hypothesis that the water s edge would have the highest biodiversity , the wooded area would have medium biodiversity, and the manicured lawn would have the lowest biodiversity. The reason that the results support my hypothesis is that the water s edge had a diverse vegetation around it for a variety of species to be found. It also had the pond where species could be found. The wooded area contained many layers of leave coverage which is good for some species but bad for others. The wooded area is also subject to runoff which reduced the number of small species that could be found on the ground. The manicured lawn is cut often causing a reduced amount of species that would be found on the ground and not enough trees to counteract the cutting affect. The biodiversity of the three sites are comparable by the evenness being greater with low species richness. The sites are also comparable by the shannon diversity index being higher as the species richness is increased. An ecological explanation that we observed was that an area with low evenness were less likely to interact with each other. The area with a higher evenness would

It can also be spread by contact with infected blood, most commonly IV drug users, or from mother to child during pregnancy, childbirth or breast feeding. HIV /AIDShas become a widely spread virus that affects the human immune system. Africa has had the greatest number of infected persons, both adults and children than any other continent. This was rapid increase was caused by high ratio of men in the urban population, lack of circumcision for the males, widespread labor migration, low status of woman, and sexually transmitted diseases. The pandemic was thought to spread so quickly because eighty five percent of sex workers were infected with HIV. During the 1990 s the infection was booming in Southern Africa, since HIV had been on the continent for a number of years, there were a few ideas about prevention campaigns, but those were to minimum effect because there was no effective treatment in Africa. In 1999, Kenyan president Daniel Arap Moi declared that HIV was a nation disaster. Eastern Africa HIV population was starting to drop off, Kampala HIV population had fallen from 30% down to 12%. In 2000, five pharmaceutical companies offered to help and reduce the prices on the HIV drugs for all of Africa and other poor regions. These companies fought for the lower prices to try and manufacture drugs for lower prices. This lead to generic drugs that they would sell to the ones in need in Africa. This started a scare because of the unstable health care they have in Africa. The next problem was some did not know how to properly take these drugs or how much to take. The distribution was one of many other problems the companies had, because it was difficult

  • 47. Issues Surrounding The Legalization Of Euthanasia This essay will critically discuss slippery slope arguments with reference to the issues surrounding the legalization of euthanasia. Firstly, the foundations of a slippery slope argument will be discussed, along with the usual fallacious nature of this type of argument, also to be discussed, is if slippery slope arguments ever provide good reasons for accepting their conclusions. Secondly, euthanasiawill be introduced and discussed, this will be done using an example of a slippery slope argumentby John Keown from his book Euthanasia, ethics and public policy: and argument against legalization. From this example, the moralityof euthanasia will be discussed as to whether slippery slope arguments show that euthanasia is immoral. Lastly, euthanasia will be discussed with reference utilitarianism, and if euthanasia would potentially be viewed as a good or moral option by utilitarian theory or if it would be viewed as immoral. Slippery slope arguments are often used to argue that if we allow something to become legal we will be stepping onto the slippery slope to allowing something viewed as morally wrong to also become legal. These arguments are used often within society, although most of the time they are used in a casual manner and the distance between point A and B is so large they are not taken seriously, (Spielthenner, 2010; Jefferson, 2014). For that reason slippery slope arguments as a general idea are not considered to be good logical arguments. So, slippery slope

I attended the Kennett Delta Parade on September 29th. I really enjoyed watching it! I thought it was the longest parade, but it had so much entertainment. In summary, the parade included the police department, tractors, modern cars, floats, marching units, school bands, school clubs, and sport teams from different areas. The parade even carried the delta fair queen and maids. My favorite section of the parade were the floats considering some people get so creative decorating. The floats were awarded. First place won $1000, second place won $600, third place won $450, fourth place won $350, and fifth place won $250. Some people bring in their competitive side, which makes it really amusing to watch. At the same time, I felt like I was part of the community when I attended the Kennett Delta Parade. Parades combine some of my favorite things: community, faith, family, patriotism, and simply being involved. Events like these bring everyone together. However, I chose this specific event because I show up every year and really enjoy coming to watch. Not only is it thrilling, but it also keeps me from staying home. I will continue to attend to this event in the future because every year it is different. I surely do not plan on missing any of it. The sensation of the Kennett Delta Fair Parade is something I look forward to every year.

Analysis Of The Book Dreams By Christopher Nolan Running head: INCEPTION PERCEPTION Inception Perception Olivia Young 29 02 AP Psychology Inception Perception Inception is a film about dreams and being able to explore people s subconscious by entering their dreams directed by Christopher Nolan (Nolan, 2010). Dom Cobb is the main character who must plant an idea into a billionaire s son s mind, to break up his father s empire. This is not Cobb s motive though, he is only doing this to be able to return to his children. He needs the pardon from Saito, who hired him to perform the inception, because he is believed to have killed his wife. The truth is that she killed herself and left in her will that he killed her, to encourage Cobb to commit suicide with her. She believed that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The idea of exploring someone s subconscious is the dream state, which is when you enter someone s dream. This is designed by the architect and filled with projections of the person s subconscious. In the state, your conscious is lowered and if not previously informed of entering the dream state, you will perceive it as reality. If you enter a dream within a dream, you are delving deeper into the person s subconscious. That is where secrets and important information is kept within your layers of consciousness. If you delve deep enough, you will reach the edge of your subconscious. This is dangerous though because to return to reality, you need the kick to be synchronized among all the layers of the subconscious. If you spend too long in the dream state, the lines of reality and dreaming can become blurred. In the movie, Cobb and his team are delving into Fischer s subconscious to plant the idea for him to break up his father s empire (Nolan, 2010). To do this, they must go very deep and plant the simplest of ideas, so his subconscious will run with it so consciously he will make the decision. They used him and his father s relationship, because that is the root of the idea they need to plant. It is not revealed in the movie though if the inception worked (Nolan, 2010). To be conscious is to have awareness of ourselves and our environment (Myers, 2011). Freud proposed the idea the our conscious was divided into the conscious, preconscious, and unconscious. The

Exodus exhibits the reality of human suffering as a result of war and oppression during the Hungarian Revolution. The historical relevance of this work dives into a deeper significance than its basic face value. The oppression and struggle for power signified in Exodus also translates into Figure 2. Both cultures, in their own time have faced their traditions and way of life being threatened. As Hungarian citizens are forced to leave their country, Ojibwa members were constantly threatened by European immigrants. The human experience is key in understanding and studying art. Besides the main styles and usage in appearance, the connection to a point in time and the influence of that time allows the audience to connect with the artist and the characteristics of the artwork. Audiences are able to connect past themes to present day issues, such as the difficulties facing many Syrian refugees and the numerous Native American women who have gone missing. The importance of home and culture is evident in both works despite their different purposes and artistic modes. Limits are explored and barriers of past, present are future are removed when audiences are able to interpret the work from any point in time and understand the significance of its visual and non visual means.

  • 53. Socio Political Allegory Of Park Chan Wook s Oldboy Mehtasim Mahfuz CCS 394 Professor Pi Ju Liang Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy 10 December 2015 Abstract One of Director Park Chan Wook s most renowned works is the film Oldboy (2003). At face value, this film appears to be a regular mystery thriller film. However, after further analysis, there are many parallels to contemporary Korean history and society. These parallels, or allegories, become more apparent upon review of the film. The film contains references to Korea s tumultuous history and contemporary culture, highlighting the multiple disappointments felt by the Korean people (Seth). The main character Oh Dae su also stands in for the average Korean citizen while his adversary, Lee Woo jin, represents upper class citizens, or chaebols, in Korea. After analyzing these points, this paper argues that Oldboy does in fact serve as a socio political allegory for problems faced in contemporary Korea. Problems that are addressed include democratization, class structure and privilege, capitalism, and the importance of power and money in Korea (Kim). Socio Political Allegory in Park Chan Wook s Oldboy While films are primarily for entertainment, they often also stand as an excellent medium for spreading awareness about social issues. It is often seen in cinema that a small point or effect actually has a much larger meaning. Historically, directors have used to raise awareness and spread knowledge about social issues.
