After going through all the articles, I was eagerly waiting to attend the first lecture of this course.
In the first lecture of this course, I got a feeling that everything is going to change. The meditation
of 5 minutes in the beginning of the lecture filled me with a positive vibe and a lot of energy. The
connection between body and soul was explained in a simple and beautiful manner by the professor.
The vibrational medicine and its effects on the body astonished me.
Further, the professor discussed about the various forms of CAM and gave me and the other
students, an opportunity to explore about any one form of CAM, write a paper on it and present it
to the whole class. During the course, various methods of alternative medicine that were presented
in the class are meditation, aromatherapy, Ayurveda
, guided imagery, yoga, reiki, hydrotherapy and
many more.
Meditation
According to me, it is a system of concentration or distraction of human mind and body used to
reach a higher level of awareness, physical performance, concentration or relaxation generally
created from an internal source. The meditation can be practiced for stress management, anger
management, control over anxiety, improved awareness and improvement of cognitive skills. To
meditate, first find a quite area, then sit cross legged, back

Susan B. Anthony Dares To Vote
The story Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote is very similar and different to Rosa Parks life. They
share a common theme which is courage. Rosa Parks is known as an important historical figure
for standing up for her rights as a black person. In Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote, Susan B.
Anthony stood up for her rights as a woman. The two women both kept fighting for their rights,
even though they knew that they will get arrested for what they believe in. Even though they are
very similar, the two women have several differences in their story. For example, other women were
standing with Susan B. Anthony, fighting to vote. But during Rosa Parks life, she was brave
enough to go through the fight alone. The mood of Susan B. Anthony Dares To

Analysis Of Outcasts In Gregory Boyle s Tattoos On The...
Outcasts in society are in need of love and compassion. In the book Tattoos on The Heart by
Gregory Boyle, Father Greg gives gang members an opportunity to better themselves by providing
them with jobs. Attention makes gang members realize they are worthy.
Giving gang members attention makes them apprehend that they are worthy. Yolanda, an active
woman from the parish, expressed to Speedy, Sabes que, mijo, she says, Te digo una cosa. If
anything happened to you, it would break my heart in two ... You know, he says, tapping his heart
with his finger, That sh*t made me feel good (Boyle 58). Speedy was hanging out with a girl from
a rival gang, which he knew was extremely dangerous, but he didn t care whether he lived or died.
Speedy understood that he was a worthy person when Yolanda expressed to him that there is
people who care for him and his wellbeing.
Gang members recognize they are worthy when they receive attention. Father Greg explains the
reaction Lula, a young ex gang member, had when he states, I roll down my window and catch his
attention Hey, Lula. You would have thought I had electrocuted him. His whole body spasmed
with delight to be known, to be called, to hear his name uttered out loud (Boyle 47). Father Greg
acknowledged Lula and made conversation with him. This made him feel happy because Father
Greg knew who he was and took the time to converse with him. Even the smallest form of attention
can help a gang member understand they are someone who

Conventional dryer discharges hot air leaving the surrounding hot. DS relies on
condensation based drying methods which gives a cooler surrounding and environment. This will
also reduce the risk of clothes dryer fire due to over heating. DS can cleverly sense the variety of
different textiles and materials and stains during the wash for optimal fabric care and cleaning.
DS has also taken care of the health aspect of our consumers. DS is equipped with this
technology called the Allergen buster that reduces particles (dust mites, domestic animal dander,
bacteria) that promote allergies such that it enhances health benefits. Sanitizing silver ions are

The Communication Strategies That Involving Actors Adopted...
For this final case application I will be analysing the communication strategies that involving actors
adopted during the 2015 Paris terrorists attacks. The event was one of Europe s most deadly attacks
leaving more than 100 dead and more than 350 injured. Unfortunately however, this was not the
first attackon Paris that same year, in January 2015, terrorists attacked the Charlie Hebdo
magazine headquarters killing twelve people. The November attacks thus, occurred in a city that
was already shaken by terrorists attacks. On the night of November 13th, the attacks occurred in
different points of Paris including the Stade de France (where President Hollande was), the
Bataclan Theatre (where a concert was given) and many streets throughout the city. All of the
attacks occurred in less than an hour and were perpetrated by a terrorist cell who had pledged
allegiance to ISIS. ISIS claimed it had committed these attacks as a response of French military
engagement with the terrorist organisation in Syria. However, the days after the attacks were
carried out are essential in order to take a grasp on understanding the crisis communication. After
the attack President François Hollande gave a ground breaking speech. He created a clear us vs.
them mentality amongst the French peoplethat would help unite not only Parisians but all French
citizens. After the attacks, Hollande immediately took action by strengthening security in Paris and
declared a nation wide Г©tat d urgence: public

Stop And Frisk Case Study
Departing Judge offers Blunt Defense of Ruling in Stop and Frisk Case
The Center for Constitutional Rights filed the federal class action lawsuit Floyd, et al. v. City of
New York, et al. against the City of New York to challenge the New York Police Department s
practices of racial profiling and unconstitutional stop and frisks of New York City residents.
Judge Scheindlin was the federal judge ruled that the stop and frisk tactics of the New York Police
Department violated the constitutional rights of minorities in the city, repudiating a major element
in the Bloomberg administration s crime fighting legacy.
The judge found that for much of the last decade, patrol officers had stopped innocent people
without any objective reason to suspect them of wrongdoing. But her criticism went beyond the
conduct of police officers. Blacks are likely targeted for stops based on a lesser degree of
objectively founded suspicion than whites, she wrote. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A strict quota placed on the police does not promote high quality police work nor does it aid them
in serving the people. For the police to be more effective, the public needs to trust them instead of
fearing them. Also, the public should not have to give up their rights in order to feel safe under the
protection of the police force.
Judge Scheindlin handled numerous cases involving the first amendment amendments to the
United States Constitution guaranteeing the rights of free expression and action that are
fundamental to democratic government. The NYPD s stop and frisk practices raise serious
concerns over racial profiling, illegal stops and privacy

The Use Of Media And Media During The French Revolution
Media and propaganda have helped establish free societies, overthrow governments, and incite wars
throughout history. Revolutionaries utilized each to inspire and unite the populace during the
French Revolution. Persuasive newspapers and pamphlets featured opinion pieces that convinced
commoners of the drastic economic, social, and political changes needed to improve their quality of
life, role in society and potential for social advancement. Revolutionaries used art in museums and
mass distributed prints as propaganda to rally the masses with nationalistic themes of heroism,
martyrdom and the power of the people. Music and festivals also contributed by infusing the masses
with passion to unite against the monarchy and fight for the revolution. The use of media and
propaganda in the French Revolutionsystematically distributed revolutionary ideas to the people
and drastically altered the course of the movement.
The French Revolution officially began in 1789, but the monarchy made a series of disastrous
earlier decisions which created the perfect conditions for the movement to thrive and engulf the
country in chaos. King Louis XVI dedicated funds to assist the American colonists in their fight for
independence against the British. While the French succeeded in their goal, the war left France
with a depleted treasury. Peasants became dissatisfied with the government after a series of
droughts and poor harvests. Tensions were further inflamed by the high taxes the monarchy

My Special Place Essay
Words like cozy, calm, and memories can be used to describe my special place. A special place
depends on the individual you are referring to. To me a special place allows the person to be
happy and sad at the same place. This is where all realms of memories are made, allowing the
individual to be able to reflect on them when entering that special atmosphere. In the warm
summers I sit in our lawn with my dog as the cool wind blows, a feeling falls over me thinking
about why I love my home and property so much and that I m so very thankful to have it. I zone
out for hours thinking about all the time that I have spent there with my family and friends.
While I never regret any of the memories I have made, I cherish all of them and hold them close
to my heart. When an individual says a word like cozy one may think about fuzzy slipper or
something soft that you would wear, but it could also mean walking into a home after a hot day
and a cold air hits you and you never want to leave; or in the frigid winter and you run into your
house because of the warmth where I stay and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
It allows me to always feel comfortable. This feeling grows stronger when I am sad or want to
avoid things because it is a safe place for me. The coziness allows me to wear what I want to
wear and speak how I want to speak. This is where I find peace when I don t want to go out with
others, it gives me a sense of reassurance that it s okay to be alone. Calm. That word doesn t refer
to a lot of things in my life, and yes, my special place can be chaotic, but you still get that sense
of feeling of serenity and peace and quiet; even when there are a million things going on. Picture
this, walking into a huge Christmas party at your house and there are tons of people there, but
only you are able to focus on the small things that not even half of the guests notice. While this is
going on you feel peace through it all; and never once feel anxiety or overwhelmed because of the

Stage fright has been known to take down some of the toughest individuals. It is the reason that
talented musicians and vocalists choose to create sellable products behind the scenes instead of

Animal Models And Clinical Trials
(WY Mak et. Al, 2014) discusses the concerns of the fact that many drugs that are successful in
animal trials are not successful in clinical trials, most specifically, drugs used in cancer treatments.
Animal models have been an important factor in the testing of a new drug before it is used in
clinical trials, but many drugs that are approved in animalmodels are not successful in human
models. It has been shown that 85% of early clinical trials for novel drugs are not successful and
from the remaining 15%, only half are approved for human use. The reason there is a difference
in results between animal models and clinical trials have to do with the inability of animals to
identically mimic human body functions. An example of a trial that had a difference in results
is the TGN1412 trial. TGN1412 was a drug used to treat diseases such as MS, rheumatoid
arthritis, and certain cancers. Before used in clinical trials, this drug was first tested in mice.
There were no complications shown in mice that would indicate complications in humans.
Humans in clinical trials were given a dose 500 times lower than the dose given to mice and it
resulted in catastrophic organ failure. Another study involving IPI 296 in patients with advanced
chondrosarcoma was ended early due to the fact that it had no effect shown in clinical trials. When
IPI 296 was used on mice, they were shown to have an increase in survival rate. This showed that
the effects of the drug on animal models was different

The Industrial Revolution Of Maryland By Lewis W. Hine And...
Following the end of the American Civil war, the Industrial Revolution came rushing in and brought
with it tremendous changes the mechanization of agriculture, the invention of steam and electricity
used machinery led to mass production factories, and the emergence of a massive railroad system.
Change in the economy and society brought great wealthto the United States. Consequently, it was a
giant magnet for immigrations. However, the distribution of wealth across the population was not
even. The American working class in the last half of nineteenth century suffered from povertyand
oppression. Several documentations and stories were written in response to the people suffering.
Two of them Child Labor in The Canning Industry of Maryland by Lewis W. Hine and Maggie: A
Girl of The Streets by Stephen Cranevividly described the living and working conditions for the
working poor. In the period of 1860 1900, the majority of the working class, including native born
and immigrants, clustered in two largest industrial areas: the North East industrial cities and the
West agriculture farms. In the West, agricultures were dominated by land and railroad companies.
Although the farming industry grew simultaneously, workers life did not improve. In fact, they
faced many hardships such as severe oppression from their owners, unfair payment for their work,
and serious lack of education for their children. In his 1909 report, Lewis H. Hine revealed the
harsh working condition

Federal District Court History
A Brief History of the Creation of the Federal District Courts of Ohio
Roberta Alexander, author of a comprehensive history of the United States District Court for the
Southern District of Ohio, described the role of the district courts this way:
The district courts have evolved from local tribunals dealing with minor infractions and land
disputes into courts of tremendous significance dealing with essentially every major issue
confronting society: equal rights and equal opportunities in the political and economic arenas; the
scope of individual rights under the Constitution, including free speech, the free exercise of
religion, and the rights of privacy; the enforcement of federal laws, ranging from environmental

Congress did not formally admit Ohio as the seventeenth state. It was not until 1953 that President
Eisenhower signed a congressional joint resolution officially declaring March 1, 1803 the date on

Police Officers And The Police Vehicles
To protect and to serve that is the saying that police officers use, and it is on the police vehicles.
They take pride to serve our community, take pride to protect our community, and take pride of
wearing the badge on their uniforms. Our community wouldn t be the same if we didn t have the
protection from them; if so there will be some disasters like some today. But yet, they get accused,
getting name, and getting threaten for the things that happen consequently.
When I was growing up, I hear all these sayings that police officers are bad , they re miserly , racist

For instance, my cousin joined the sheriff s department after his service in the army. He has told
me his experiences when he joined the sheriff s department; he loves the law enforcement
because he was able to help around the community and not just with criminal matters. But then,
when he told me how sad it is when they get accused because they are on the front line and he
said they get hated on because of a lot of injustices that happened decades ago. He also says that
there are still good police officers out there and not abusing the badge, but some people don t see it
because they re to focus on the issues that makes them fear the badge.
No doubt, due to the issues back then caused us to call them racist and threatening them because of
the issues we were dealing with the past. By doing all those things, it makes some of them scared
from all the threatening and calling them names because they re putting their life at risk. For
instance, if a police officer shot a Mexican person, everyone is going to get crazy because he or
she shot the Mexican person. If the officer shot the person, it wasn t meant to kill them. Meaning,
the officers will do their best not to shoot them because it is not their attention to do so. They do
go through training or they leave the police department because of these issues and that is how we
lose many police officers.
In fact, my officer told me once they hear that an officer shot a person; they re already judging and

Mise-En-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite
In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon
Heder) is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character;
they are the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd
character in the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other
character(s). This effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess
utilizes in order to bring out Napoleon s persona in ways other than simply guessing who he really
is. Rather, these techniques explicitly imply certain character traits; they are like clues that allow
one to see the character just as the creator intended.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This not only shows his weakness as a person, but his immaturity as well, considering that high
school students typically do not resort to this sort of behavior; it is normally reserved for
younger children. He is a figure of mockery to nearly everyone at school, his uncle Rico, even his
own brother Kip. Albeit he hardly tries to defend himself, he does attempt to make up for it by
trying to look cool, but in extremely ineffective ways. The initial instance of this phenomenon of
Napoleon s is when he first meets Pedro. He brags that a gang at his school wanted him to join
(specifically for his bow staff skills ), which is almost certainly not true. Also, he tells Don a
ridiculous, overly exaggerated story when he went to Alaska the previous summer. He claims that
he went wolverine hunting with his uncle, and shot like fifty of em . Either there is an entire
flipside to Napoleon s character that is never revealed, or he is embellishing a story that may not
even exist in the first place. The latter seems like a much more reasonable conclusion.
Not only does he fail to seem cool to the people at school, but he does not exactly have the best
skills in picking up women. In more blunt words, he is just not very smooth. One example of this
is when he talks to Deb in the cafeteria, and uses the corny pickup line, I see you re

The Power Of Language In Animal Farm, By George Orwell
The power of language dominates the minds of the characters in Animal Farm by George
Orwell, as they embark on a journey to rebellion. In the novel, Orwell assigns devious tactics to
the animals that they use to reflect on the power of language. Not only does the author use
propaganda to reflect the power of language, but he also adds a disposition of persuasiveness.
Orwell incorporates power of language by having characters, like Squealer, integrate many
different forms of propaganda. Another way that power of language is used in this novel is
persuasion by the lead animals on the farm. The author uses these tactics to reflect on the power
of language, in order to show the importance of words. To begin with, George Orwell
consistently includes methods of propaganda, meaning government communications to the
public that are designed to influence opinion. This is seen a lot throughout Animal Farm, with it
s purpose being to emphasize the power of language. He does so by having characters, like
Squealer, use many slick tactics while performing speeches to the animals. When declaring that
the pigs were keeping the milk and apples to themselves, Squealer uses not one, but two great
forms of propaganda. Those two being distraction tactics and appeals to authority. Squealer
explained, Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself! Our sole object in
taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (and this has been proved by
Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig (35). In this
speech, Squealer brings up science, or appeals to authority to prove his point, when really, there is
no actual evidence that the pigs absolutely need milk and apples. Appeals to authority is the act of
claiming that something must be true because it is believed by someone who is said to be an
authority on the subject. Orwell incorporates this tactic by having Squealer mention that the facts
he uses are from an authority on the subject. What the animals don t suspect is that Squealer never
proves that the information is factual. He also turns the table and informs the animals that the pigs
aren t getting milk and apples because they want to or like them, it s

Germany Is A Country Rich With History
Before we can understand the culture of any country or people, we must first define what culture is
and what influences culture to change. Culture is simply the shared characteristics or common
ground within a group of individuals. These characteristics can include anything from religion to
how a business operates. Culture is not stagnate; it will evolve and change as the people of the
area develop new ideas, technologies, and views of the future. For example, Germanyhas developed
its own unique culture over the course of a few millenniums. When visiting Germany for the first
time, having an understanding of the country s history, territorial regions, political environment,
and customs of the people may keep a person from unintentionally offending a German citizen and
make the adventure much more enjoyable. First, to understand how German culture and customs
came into existence we must examine its past. Germany is a country rich with history spanning
over two thousand years. Fortunately, we only need to look at the last century and a half to
understand how modern day Germany came into fruition. Prior to 1870, Germany was only a
collection of separate principalities. Then in 1871, Germany became part of the Holy Roman
Empire and united into one country. Under the leadership of Otto von Bismarck, it transformed into
a powerful, industrialized nation. As Germany entered into the 1920s with the economic depression
just starting, there was disappointment among

When others are fighting and using the sword, the person who stands back and has control over

Analysis Of Victor SпїЅjeur s The Mulatto
Victor SГ©jeur s The Mulatto
Published in 1837 in France by Victor Sejeur, The Mulatto is a graphic representation of both the
physical violence occurring during the life of an enslaved person in St. Domingue. The American
expatriate SГ©jeur was unencumbered by the limitations experienced by mid 19th century black
authors in the United States and could freely express the violent reality of a society based in a
slave economy. The story of Georges, the son of a slave owner and an enslaved woman, is told by
an elderly narrator during the time after the slave rebellion to the unnamed narrator visiting St.
Domingue for the first time. The Mulatto is an examination of the violence inherent in a society
based upon slavery and the reverberation of that violence. SГ©jeur specifically focuses on how the
violence of a society based upon a slave economy pervasively impacts the societal unit of the family
and includes violence committed by the oppressors on the oppressed as well as the violent reaction
of those that have had their family and humanity mutually devastated.
The frame narrative structure of The Mulatto frames the violence occurring in the life of Georges
during the time before abolition within an external contextual frame of his story being told during
post slavery St. Domingue. The tone of simmering anger and violence in the elderly narrator as he
addresses the original narrator as Master and then proceeds to describe how the master would do

A Day Of Freedom From Original Writing Essay
She did not want to leave without any mention, and took a piece of paper and penned her
explanation. A note dedicated to Mauricio, for him to find on her bed. When she was done she
rolled her way out of the building totally covert, and just like that she went missing.
Uncontrollable tears ran down her face but Luna opted this was not going to be her walk of
shame. Rather a walk of freedom from a relationship that was going to waste her life and get her
nowhere. No matter how much she loved Mauricio she was clear, she was too old to wait and
put the boy through college. She was too old to be told what to do. Over the reproach of
damages caused by her mother. And, unwilling to relive her past bad decisions on the daily.
Strong and bold, holding her chin up, was Luna Festenpool, who had no shame in stepping
outside her comfort zone, and made up her mind to get married August 3rd! Ten minutes passed
between Luna leaving the building and Mauricio coming through her apartment door. Luna!

Permit Me To Introduce Myself As An American Citizen
Permit me to introduce myself. I am an American citizen, a retired military member with twenty
three years honorable service to this country. I am a patriot, a husband, a father, and a grandfather.
I have no political aspirations nor do I want any notoriety. I just want to get America back. I want
her to be strong and healthy. I want her to resume her leadership role in the world. Every day when
I put on my uniform, I put my life on the line. I swore an oath to support and defend the
Constitution of the United Statesagainst all enemies foreign and domestic. I have never broken that
oath nor will I ever. I have kept the faith with my brother Marines and sister services to defend this
country at all costs.
I am writing this because I am fearful about the future of our country. The path the current
administration has chosen. Yet my fears go much farther back in 20th century history. The lack of
attention being paid to our Constitution, and the Bill of Rights. I am very concerned about the
corruption in Washington D.C. from our elected officials who are supposed to represent US not
himself or herself or a party.
Let me get to the subject.

Age Discrimination Essay 9
Stereotypes about older people are a bound in our culture, but employers are not allowed to indulge
in them when making workplace decisions. Manifestations of age discrimination can be subtle or
blatant. Typical actions might include refusing to hire or promote older workers, curtailing their
employee benefits, limiting their training opportunities or limiting their job responsibilities and
duties. Older workers may be targeted in reductions of the work force; they may be encouraged to
retire. Exit incentive programs may deny valuable additional benefits to an older worker and early
retirementincentives may pressure older workers to retire prematurely. Incentive benefits may be
reduced for people who continue working beyond normal ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

The elimination of mandatory retirement is one of AARP s legislative priorities. Another priority
for them is to make sure that workers do not have to waive their rights to sue in exchange for an
offer of early retirement benefits. They want to make sure that older workers pension benefits are
treated the same as others.
As employers and as workers, it is important for all of us to be aware of the subtle way in which
age biased prejudices can influence our thinking. These stereotypical thoughts and actions reduce
both the incomes and the self confidence of millions of workers. An individual s ability, not their
age, should determine their qualifications for getting and keeping a job.
The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) is a US federal agency empowered by
Congress, particularly since the passage of the Civil Rights Acts of 1964, to help enforce laws
prohibiting discrimination in the workplace. The Commission was first established in the early
1960s, but it was not until 1964 that the EEOC was given the congressional power it needed to
pursue those companies with discriminatory practices, through lawsuits. The Civil Rights Act, in
Title VII of its law specifically gives the Commission the rights to oversee the employment practices
of both private and government employers, and to enforce the administration of laws set

(Frederick Douglass Cuts Through The Lincoln Myth To Consider The Man). In this statement he
talks about how even though a person does not care about you; we should never treat a person how
we would not like to be treated and therefore we should thank Abraham Lincoln and many others
for everything they have done for the people. Frederick Douglass gave this speech because it
shows how his life was when he was growing up and how he was just taken away from his family.
When giving this speech Frederick Douglass gives a big purpose on why he is giving this speech in
the first place. The purpose of Frederick Douglass giving this speech is that he wants everybody to
be free from all the nonsense and to end people from being taken away from their families. I am
myself; you are yourself; we are two distinct persons equal persons. What you are, I am. You are a
man, and so am I. God created both, and made us separate beings. We are distinct persons, and

The Roaring Twenties In Canada
In Canada, the 1920s were an age of social, political, and medical advances. Several new
developments were introduced that changed Canadian society. It was an era of prosperity and
enjoyment for many (Bolotta 72). From silent films, to the invention of insulin, to different art
forms, to the Model T, it is not surprising that this age was also known as the Roaring Twenties.
Although the twenties were full of various developments; in order of greatest to least importance,
the invention of insulin, the Persons Case, and the Model T were the most significant
developments as they have impacted society the most. Banting and Best s production of insulin

The word persons has enormous legal power (The Persons Case). Prior to the 1920s, women were
not considered persons (Persons Case). No woman had yet been appointed to the Canadian
Senate or other government job because according to the British North America Act, the word
persons did not include females (Bolotta 85). Hence, in 1928, a group of famous western
women called Alberta s Famous Five took this legal battle to Canada s supreme court (The
Persons Case). On October 28, 1929, when Emily Murphy, Nellie McClung, and 3 others were
denied their appeal, the Famous Five took the case to the Judicial Committee of the Privy
Council in Britain (Persons Case). Subsequently, the British Privy Council overruled the Supreme
Court decision and stated that women were legally persons and were eligible to be appointed to
the Senate (Bolotta 94). The Persons Case opened the Senate to women, enabling them to work
for change in both the House of Commons and the Upper House. Thus, Emily Murphy became the
first female magistrate in the British Empire (86). This was an important victory for the women s
rights movement in Canada and a major development that made the twenties roar. The Famous
Five not only won the right for women to serve in the Senate but helped pave the way for women
to participate equally in and contribute equally to all other aspects of life in Canada. Moreover, the
legal recognition of women as persons meant that women could no longer be denied rights based on

anyone yearns to gain. It surely doesn t come swiftly, unfortunately, and it won t develop out of thin

through genetics, past life events, and personality. Anxiety can be broken down into six different

The Philosophy Of Servant Leadership
The Philosophy of Servant Leadership Servant leadership is a theory based on the notion that
one should be a servant to others first, and a leader second. A person should have the desire to
serve others, in order to be a servant leader. The following paper will address several key
components of the servant leadershipphilosophy related to the book: The Servant: A Simple Story
About the True Essence of Leadership, written by James C. Hunter. First, I will examine the
theory of servant leadership including its history, definitions, and major concepts. Next, the
function of this leadership style in the field of nursing and nursing roles will be discussed. Finally,
how this philosophy can be utilized in my personal nursing practice and how the theory has
sparked personal growth in myself as a leader will be examined.
History of Servant Leadership The philosophy of servant leadership began with Robert K.
Greenleaf in 1977. He first came about the idea of servant leadership while reading Journey to
the East by Herman Hesse (Keith, 2016). This is a story of a group of travelers who were served
by a man named Leo. He performed their menial chores and lifted their spirits with his song and
his spirit (Keith, 2016). Leo disappeared one day, throwing the travelers into disarray (Keith,
2016). This ended the journey of the travelers. Many years later, one of the travelers saw Leo in a
new job role as the head of the order that once sponsored the journey (Keith, 2016). Once a servant,

a scale of 1 being completely risk averse and 2 being solely risk taking. The experiment also
measured approach motivation with the BAS scale and anxiety with the BIS scale. The results of

where decisions were framed as losses in comparison to gains, even when both decisions were equal
mathematically. The primary results indicated that there was no main effect of risk taking and
economic uncertainty. Furthermore, there was no link found between the economic uncertainty

not supported by the data. In exploratory analyses of the data reveals there is an interaction effect
between the economic uncertainty group and trait anxiety on risky decision making. This can be

Theme Of Mistakes In Romeo And Juliet
Every story or piece of writing has more than one theme, some harder to find than others. In the
play Romeo and Juliet the most obvious theme seems to be love, but, digging deeper in the play,
more less obvious themes become noticeable. Shakespeare was trying to deliver the message of
folliness and folly and how Romeo and juliet s lovewas rushed to quickly. Common sense could
have been used to avoid the deaths of the couple and possibly end the family feud.
Making mistakes are a natural part of what makes us humans. It is our flaw because no one is
perfect, but those that are wise, learn from them. I do not consider a mistake a mistake unless
there was no common sense used. Using common sense before making a mistake usually has a
better, less harmful, outcome and could be avoided next time it happens. In the play Romeo and
Juliet everyone is a subject of foolishness and folly, and neglecting a mistake lead to the
unrealized death s of the two protagonists. The main character(s) who embodie the message of
foolishness and folly points to Romeo, Tybalt, the Nurse and Friar lawrence and their lack of
common sense. Pointing out all of Romeo s foolishness in the play is easy, but it is not always
Romeo s fault. Romeo was influenced by love, Friar Lawrence, Tybalt, the nurse, his friends and

References to primarily American popular culture and literature create a discourse investigating the
merits of our nation s development. Each text employs comedy at Sigmund Freud s tendentious
level of jest to challenge personal and social reticence without appearing antagonistic to any specific
group. The use of intertexuality condenses the length of the works and lends to the humor of the
subject matter by alluding to already familiar people, places, and events in American culture.
Without prior knowledge of such entities, most of the texts meaning and wit will be lost.
Nevertheless, a complete understanding of such allusions will reveal the juxtaposition of America s
modern progression: society has improved in certain aspects, yet has somewhat been demoted in
other regards.
The long established attraction of migrating to America is derived from its historic reputation as
the land of opportunity. The Statue of Liberty symbolizes the ability of the wretched refuse to
surpass birth and class distinctions through hard work and economy. But the overwhelming
importance placed on possessions as status symbols has gradually lost its allure. In Music For
Torching, A.M. Homes reveals that the contemporary world of suburbia, viewed as the culmination
of financially successful households, is not as wonderful as it is presumed to be. Her constant
citation of designer labels reveals the importance placed on

Social Construction Of Gender By Lorber
Although still problematic, gender roles constructed by society and cultures have progressed
throughout the years, not as much as hoped but in small ways. The social and cultural construction
of gender in definition means the construction of gender roles created by others that determine their
behaviors and develop standards based on their sex. In the article Social Construction of Genderby
Lorber the author demonstrates the social and cultural construction of gender stating, Yet in
Western societies, we see two discrete sexes and two distinguishable genders because our society
is built on two classes of people, women and men . Once the gender category is given the
attributes of the person are also gendered.... (Lorber, 11). In the poem... Show more content on

It could be seen in many perspectives how the social and cultural construction of gender are
being developed. Women and men are often being told what they should or shouldn t do. Being
molded into something society wants and favors. It s all developed through interactions with the
media, in school, with family, whether it s direct or not, it creates a huge impact on women. In
the reading, it states For men in Western societies, physical competence is an important marker
of masculinity (Lorber, 12 ). This goes to show how in different cultural settings there are
expectations that mark the gender you identify with. Culture makes a huge impact on the way a
person looks or speaks. Being a strong person could be known as attractive in a certain era or
area of the world, however, being extremely pale could be an attractive feature to have. This
process interestingly affects the person and makes them do exactly what society wants them to do.
Whether it s an unconscious or a conscious decision. Piercy, although, uses the actions of the tree

Personal Responsibility For Ma s Success Essay
A number of factors contributed to Ma s success. It may be useful to start with some of the key
business principles he has vocalized and to refer to his background from there. His first
principle relates to his own personal responsibility for the consequences associated with his
business decisions. He has noted somewhat dramatically that if anyone has to go to jail as a
result of following his direction, he should be the first to go. He also stated during his IPO in New
York that if shareholders were unhappy, he would be willing to buy the company back from them.
It is not clear whether this is a realistic suggestion, but the sentiment is certainly rare. This sense of
personal responsibilityoften derives from starting in a position where one intimately knows all of
his colleagues. This was the case when Alibaba began.
Another of Ma s core principles has been to maintain a sense of direction. As the CEO is
responsible for setting the mission and the aim of a company, this job also entails expressing this to
leading management the company as a whole as well as setting in place the process to execute it.
Looking back, Ma has been instrumental in the company s continual innovation, acquisition and
expansion. This progress is reminiscent of clear task oriented goals.
Ma is careful to remind business leaders that a sense of modesty is helpful to the learning process.
He claimed he is always happy when he has a student who knows something he does not. This
willingness to learn

many different managers to make sure that the resort runs smoothly. For a functional organization
they have a general manager who is in control of the whole resort. Since this resort is 24 hours
they would need another one at least to make sure they always have one to take care of anything
when in need, this way the guests stay happy. All of the functional areas depend on one another. If
one of these areas are not doing their job it will affect the rest of the areas. This is why it is

Nafta And The United Atlantic Free Trade Agreement
Introduction
In 1990, Mexico approached the US with a trade agreement to improve the Mexican economy
through a bilateral agreement that would benefit both parties (Villarreal 1 3). Negotiations birthed
the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), in 1994, which included three countries
Mexico, America, and Canada. Since its inception, NAFTA has played an instrumental role in
improving the economy of its member states (Thompson 121). Using this agreement, Mexico
aimed to attract foreign investments and improve its economic performance in the same regard.
For example, it strived to create new job opportunities and find new markets for its products
(Thompson 121). These needs emanated from a period of economic slump that hit the Mexican
economy in the 1980s and 1990s. These poor economic conditions had caused economic
desperation in Mexico (Hufbauer 51 52). The main expectation of approaching the US for a
bilateral trade agreement was to increase investor confidence in the country and improve its
economic fortunes in the same regard (Villarreal 1 3). Other expected outcomes included
improved export diversification, increased wage rates (for local workers), and increased
sophistication of the local workforce (Thompson 121 122). Over time, Mexico hoped that the
NAFTA agreement would also help it to reduce wage differentials with America. Consequently,
NAFTA would affect the economy of the US Mexico border in multiple ways. Besides the
economic advantages of the agreement,

My Experience Living Overseas Nothing could have prepared me for what I was about to
experience. It was 1985 and I had just turned 21 years old. It was the year I joined the United
States Air Force. What I found most spectacular about Okinawa was the beauty of the island, the
magnificent blue ocean surrounding it, culture, and the people. What made Okinawa so
spectacular was the picturesque views of the mountains, the variety of terrain and vegetation. As
you moved away from the city it wasn t as congested it was more rural with homes separated by
space. The city of Okinawa was compact and overrun in apartment buildings and every space had
a store occupying it. As you moved away from the city it isn t as congested it is more rural with...

Okinawa has many beaches surrounding it. As you walk along the beach where the ocean joins
together it is lined with fine granules of white sand. The warmth of the sand under your feet also
filters in between your toes. Further out into the ocean it is crisp and clear, and your able to see the
fish swimming around your legs. The warmth of the sun, and the tepid water rushing in over the
body was refreshing. Some water activities in Okinawa include snorkeling and deep sea diving.
It is relaxing and fascinating swimming with some of the most magnificent sea creatures. Other
hobby s offered is spelunking which is cave exploration. It is an interesting hobby because you
don t know what you may find. One cave I explored I remember finding broken eye glasses, old
shoes, medicine bottles and other items. I left everything as it was because this is where people
had died in the war, and essentially their tomb. Some caves contained more than one level, they
were deep and wide it was amazing to see. Especially, when the depth and perception is confirmed
when you look up at the ceiling of the cave. Spelunking can be dangerous because the integrity of

Death Of The Ball Turret Gunner Analysis
It s not to hard to sacrifice for someone you love, but it s hard to find someone who s worth your
sacrifice. When you have a reason for what you do then, it makes it easier to work harder. One
example is when you have a job, you work harder so you can get paid money. This can also apply
to soldiers in war, they work hard for citizens to live freely. When you are trying to do something
that is worth sacrificing you start with what you love and teach or spread it to those around you.
A man by the name Randall Jarrell, he was a writer that loved reading and writing and teaching.
He had a love for writing, this helped him describe situations in history. His poetry was very deep
Horne wrote that, moving back and forth between life and the life that is created by writing
Randall tells of life in his stories, in one called The Death of the Ball TurretGunner. In this poem
he tells about the lifestyle that Turret Gunners have in WWII. In The Death of the Ball Turret
Gunner, there are 3 messages described. Jarrell tells of how being a turret Gunner is like coming
out a mother s womb. A Turret Gunners job is to hang upside down in a chair at the bottom of
bomber planes. The task is to shoot any fighters trying to destroy the plane. Due to the task being
so dangerous men would only on average make it three trips. The situation these brave men were
in was that they were you in upside down, they were also wrapped in the darkness of the night.
This helped Jarrell to draw the

`` Repent, Harlequin, By Harlan Ellison
Harlan Ellison uses strong imagery in his short story Repent, Harlequin! said the Ticktockman to
better develop the characters and setting. The personalities of both the Harlequin and the
Ticktockman are developed through Ellison s imagery of their physical forms and of their
personas. The dull setting of the short storyis created through the author s imagery of machinery,
particularly clockwork, and Mondrian arrangements. Ellison s use of imagery allows the reader to
pull from this story deeper, more significant meaning than what appears on the surface. According
to White, the disruptive and rebellious Harlequinis an anomaly: the only human being
distinguishable from machines (White, 1). In order to clearly establish the Harlequin as the only
individual within his society, Ellison employs the use of strong imagery to cause him to stand out
among the rest of the characters. One way that Ellison does this is using rather outlandish
language to describe the Harlequin. Aside from being a personality, which in and of itself is
outrageous to the System, the Harlequin is also a laughing, irresponsible japer of jabberwocky and
jive (953, 955). This imagery of a jesteror a jokester creates the idea that the Harlequin is merely a
nuisance to his society rather than a dangerous rebellious force. When the Harlequin is flying the
air boat that he uses to drop jelly beans on to the metronomic Timkin workers, he is not described
as merely flying this boat over the people

Women s Day Advertisement Of The Frog Prince
This Women s Day advertisement inspires Women to become the person they dream of being.
Alluding to the timeless fairy tale The Frog Prince with a toy frog wearing a crown, the ad plays
on youthful innocence. The classically magical tale recounts the events of a girl who is not suited
for royalty becoming a princess, which a majority of American and British women were exposed to
in their youth. Therefore, the frog is a happy reference to a time period that every womanhas had or
will have where they relate to the girlin the story and feel capable of becoming a princess .
Because fairy tales never follow the prince or princess in the story after becoming such the
responsibilities and life is left to the interpretation of the reader. This promotes imagination in

commonly associated with soldiers. Targeting Women who have been exposed to The Frog Prince,
the intended audience is broad and probably part of the reason that the advertisement as a whole is

Argumentative Essay On The Color Purple
According to the Collins Dictionary, the term belittle is when you speak of (something) as less
valuable or important than it really is . When evaluating the given definition, the word something
is key to the topic that will be delivered. This is because The color Purple by Alice Walker
exemplifies the time period between 1910 1940 in which the belittling of women was very
common. The word something stands out because during this time period (1910 1940) women
were treated as things and not human beings, which is why the definition given by the Collins
Dictionary represents more completely the conduct usually men manifested. We can infer that
belittling falls into the category of abuse, mainly because when you abuse of someone, either
physically or emotionally, you make the person feel inferior and powerless. Throughout the novel...

Mike Trout In Major League Baseball
Major League Baseball has customarily shunned the idea of too much focus on individual player
limelight. America s pastime has prided itself on being the penultimate team sport.
There has been a burgeoning conversation over which player might warrant the moniker as the face

receiving mention. However, these three players surface on every list as the worthy face of the
game.
Mike Trout
There isn t a top 100 list posted, which doesn t have the name Mike Trout on it. Trout is either the

talent.
Since youth is well served as a candidate for the new face of Major League Baseball, no list should

first game in April 2015, going 0 for 4 with three whiffs at the plate. The 25 year old heir apparent

Continued moves to offshore locations are causing many consumers to look twice at companies
that use this tactic for an increased market share (Stones, 2003). The final issue identified is the
possibility of litigation by the Union officials.
Opportunity Identification There are many opportunities for Global Communications in
moving forward with its plan of action. The first opportunity is the possibility of increased
technical sophistication by partnering with a satellite provider to offer video services and a
satellite version of Broadband. This in turn will allow GC the opportunity to increased market
share. By providing the consumer with a more diverse product to choose from, GC will be able
to gain a competitive edge in the market and garner new customers in the process. Another
opportunity found is the chance to cut unit cost by outsourcing the call center to India or
Ireland. This move will allow GC the chance to become a key player in the global arena. It will
also provide GC with a labor force that is technically advanced to meet the needs of a growing
market at a lower price (Rossheim, 2006). The combination of all of these opportunities will
provide GC with the much needed profitability capabilities to sustain its operations for the next
three years as well as produce a higher yield for stockholders.

Heart Pathophysiology
The function of the heart is to pump blood around the body. It is a hollow muscle and can be found
between the lungs in the mediastinum and behind the sternum and between the second and sixth
ribs. It is the size of a fist and has four chambers. The upper chambers are the left and right atria,
with the bottom chambers the left and right ventricles. The heartconsists of several layers: the
pericardium (outer protective covering of fibrous tissue), the epicardium (made up of epithelial
cells and secretes serum which prevents the layers rubbing), the myocardium (the muscular wall of

There are four valves in the heart that stop the blood from flowing in the wrong direction.
These are the tricuspid, pulmonary, mitral and aortic valves. The SA node (sino atrial node)
stimulates the atrium to contract forcing blood through the valves to the ventricles. The AV
(atrioventricular) node then stimulates the ventricles to contract which pumps blood out of the heart.
The right ventricle pumping blood to the lungs, and the left ventricle pumping blood to the body.
There are three types of circulation of the blood. These are pulmonary, systemic and portal
circulation. Pulmonary circulation is where the blood is pumped to the lungs. It arrives
deoxygenated from the superior and inferior vena cava into the right atrium. It then is pumped
through the tricuspid valve into the right ventricle. The blood then leaves through the pulmonary
valve into the pulmonary artery where it splits into the left and right pulmonary arteries and goes
into the lungs and is re oxygenated. The oxygenated blood returns from the lungs by the pulmonary

The Causes Of The Protestant Reformation
The Protestant Reformation regarded the followers of the Catholic Church finally rebelling and
realizing all of the corruption happening in the Church. The Protestant Reformation took place in
the 16th century and led to the revolutionization of Europe. The Reformation sparked the Scientific
Revolution, Industrial Revolution, and the Enlightenment. The Reformation s challenge to Church
authority revolution Europe because people did not accept earlier authorities, questioned earlier
authorities thoughts, and started to think for themselves and said that God was not always the
answer.
During the Scientific Revolution, questioning applied to the natural world led to yielding the full
understanding of nature. Copernicus was someone that questioned the natural world; he did not
follow what people said before him without question. Copernicus question mathematicians in 1543
because he wanted to understand astronomy better. Other ways, questioning the natural world
happened when people started to interrogate nature. Interrogating nature means: observing what is
there and ask questions about it. In 1628, William Harvey wanted to know more about how the
heart worked, so to gain the new knowledge he performed vivisection and observed his findings.
Vivisection means dissection of a living animal. William Harvey found that blood is continuously
pumped by the action of the heart from the vena cava to the arteries and from the arteries to
various organs, the pulse drives the blood to

Rosa Parks is known as an important historical figure for standing up for her rights as a black person. In Susan B. Anthony Dares to Vote, Susan B. Anthony stood up for her rights as a woman. The two women both kept fighting for their rights, even though they knew that they will get arrested for what they believe in. Even though they are very similar, the two women have several differences in their story. For example, other women were standing with Susan B. Anthony, fighting to vote. • 4. Analysis Of Outcasts In Gregory Boyle s Tattoos On The... Outcasts in society are in need of love and compassion. In the book Tattoos on The Heart by Gregory Boyle, Father Greg gives gang members an opportunity to better themselves by providing them with jobs. Attention makes gang members realize they are worthy. Giving gang members attention makes them apprehend that they are worthy. Yolanda, an active woman from the parish, expressed to Speedy, Sabes que, mijo, she says, Te digo una cosa. If anything happened to you, it would break my heart in two ... You know, he says, tapping his heart with his finger, That sh*t made me feel good (Boyle 58). Speedy was hanging out with a girl from a rival gang, which he knew was extremely dangerous, but he didn t care whether he lived or died. Speedy understood that he was a worthy person when Yolanda expressed to him that there is people who care for him and his wellbeing. Gang members recognize they are worthy when they receive attention. Father Greg explains the reaction Lula, a young ex gang member, had when he states, I roll down my window and catch his attention Hey, Lula. You would have thought I had electrocuted him. His whole body spasmed with delight to be known, to be called, to hear his name uttered out loud (Boyle 47). Father Greg acknowledged Lula and made conversation with him. This made him feel happy because Father Greg knew who he was and took the time to converse with him. Even the smallest form of attention can help a gang member understand they are someone who ... • 9. The Communication Strategies That Involving Actors Adopted... For this final case application I will be analysing the communication strategies that involving actors adopted during the 2015 Paris terrorists attacks. The event was one of Europe s most deadly attacks leaving more than 100 dead and more than 350 injured. Unfortunately however, this was not the first attackon Paris that same year, in January 2015, terrorists attacked the Charlie Hebdo magazine headquarters killing twelve people. The November attacks thus, occurred in a city that was already shaken by terrorists attacks. On the night of November 13th, the attacks occurred in different points of Paris including the Stade de France (where President Hollande was), the Bataclan Theatre (where a concert was given) and many streets throughout the city. All of the attacks occurred in less than an hour and were perpetrated by a terrorist cell who had pledged allegiance to ISIS. ISIS claimed it had committed these attacks as a response of French military engagement with the terrorist organisation in Syria. However, the days after the attacks were carried out are essential in order to take a grasp on understanding the crisis communication. After the attack President FranГ§ois Hollande gave a ground breaking speech. He created a clear us vs. them mentality amongst the French peoplethat would help unite not only Parisians but all French citizens. After the attacks, Hollande immediately took action by strengthening security in Paris and declared a nation wide Г©tat d urgence: public ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 10. Stop And Frisk Case Study Departing Judge offers Blunt Defense of Ruling in Stop and Frisk Case The Center for Constitutional Rights filed the federal class action lawsuit Floyd, et al. v. City of New York, et al. against the City of New York to challenge the New York Police Department s practices of racial profiling and unconstitutional stop and frisks of New York City residents. Judge Scheindlin was the federal judge ruled that the stop and frisk tactics of the New York Police Department violated the constitutional rights of minorities in the city, repudiating a major element in the Bloomberg administration s crime fighting legacy. The judge found that for much of the last decade, patrol officers had stopped innocent people without any objective reason to suspect them of wrongdoing. But her criticism went beyond the conduct of police officers. Blacks are likely targeted for stops based on a lesser degree of objectively founded suspicion than whites, she wrote. ... For the police to be more effective, the public needs to trust them instead of fearing them. Judge Scheindlin handled numerous cases involving the first amendment amendments to the United States Constitution guaranteeing the rights of free expression and action that are fundamental to democratic government. • 11. The Use Of Media And Media During The French Revolution Media and propaganda have helped establish free societies, overthrow governments, and incite wars throughout history. Revolutionaries utilized each to inspire and unite the populace during the French Revolution. Persuasive newspapers and pamphlets featured opinion pieces that convinced commoners of the drastic economic, social, and political changes needed to improve their quality of life, role in society and potential for social advancement. Revolutionaries used art in museums and mass distributed prints as propaganda to rally the masses with nationalistic themes of heroism, martyrdom and the power of the people. Music and festivals also contributed by infusing the masses with passion to unite against the monarchy and fight for the revolution. The use of media and propaganda in the French Revolutionsystematically distributed revolutionary ideas to the people and drastically altered the course of the movement. The French Revolution officially began in 1789, but the monarchy made a series of disastrous earlier decisions which created the perfect conditions for the movement to thrive and engulf the country in chaos. King Louis XVI dedicated funds to assist the American colonists in their fight for independence against the British. While the French succeeded in their goal, the war left France with a depleted treasury. Peasants became dissatisfied with the government after a series of droughts and poor harvests. • 12. My Special Place Essay Words like cozy, calm, and memories can be used to describe my special place. A special place depends on the individual you are referring to. To me a special place allows the person to be happy and sad at the same place. This is where all realms of memories are made, allowing the individual to be able to reflect on them when entering that special atmosphere. In the warm summers I sit in our lawn with my dog as the cool wind blows, a feeling falls over me thinking about why I love my home and property so much and that I m so very thankful to have it. I zone out for hours thinking about all the time that I have spent there with my family and friends. While I never regret any of the memories I have made, I cherish all of them and hold them close to my heart. When an individual says a word like cozy one may think about fuzzy slipper or something soft that you would wear, but it could also mean walking into a home after a hot day and a cold air hits you and you never want to leave; or in the frigid winter and you run into your house because of the warmth where I stay and... That word doesn t refer to a lot of things in my life, and yes, my special place can be chaotic, but you still get that sense of feeling of serenity and peace and quiet; even when there are a million things going on. • 15. Animal Models And Clinical Trials (WY Mak et. Al, 2014) discusses the concerns of the fact that many drugs that are successful in animal trials are not successful in clinical trials, most specifically, drugs used in cancer treatments. Animal models have been an important factor in the testing of a new drug before it is used in clinical trials, but many drugs that are approved in animalmodels are not successful in human models. It has been shown that 85% of early clinical trials for novel drugs are not successful and from the remaining 15%, only half are approved for human use. The reason there is a difference in results between animal models and clinical trials have to do with the inability of animals to identically mimic human body functions. An example of a trial that had a difference in results is the TGN1412 trial. TGN1412 was a drug used to treat diseases such as MS, rheumatoid arthritis, and certain cancers. Before used in clinical trials, this drug was first tested in mice. There were no complications shown in mice that would indicate complications in humans. Humans in clinical trials were given a dose 500 times lower than the dose given to mice and it resulted in catastrophic organ failure. Another study involving IPI 296 in patients with advanced chondrosarcoma was ended early due to the fact that it had no effect shown in clinical trials. When IPI 296 was used on mice, they were shown to have an increase in survival rate. This showed that the effects of the drug on animal models was different ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Following the end of the American Civil war, the Industrial Revolution came rushing in and brought with it tremendous changes the mechanization of agriculture, the invention of steam and electricity used machinery led to mass production factories, and the emergence of a massive railroad system. Change in the economy and society brought great wealthto the United States. Consequently, it was a giant magnet for immigrations. However, the distribution of wealth across the population was not even. The American working class in the last half of nineteenth century suffered from povertyand oppression. Several documentations and stories were written in response to the people suffering. Two of them Child Labor in The Canning Industry of Maryland by Lewis W. Hine and Maggie: A Girl of The Streets by Stephen Cranevividly described the living and working conditions for the working poor. In the period of 1860 1900, the majority of the working class, including native born and immigrants, clustered in two largest industrial areas: the North East industrial cities and the West agriculture farms. In the West, agricultures were dominated by land and railroad companies. Although the farming industry grew simultaneously, workers life did not improve. For instance, if a police officer shot a Mexican person, everyone is going to get crazy because he or she shot the Mexican person. If the officer shot the person, it wasn t meant to kill them. Meaning, the officers will do their best not to shoot them because it is not their attention to do so. • 20. Mise-En-Scene in Napoleon Dynamite In Napoleon Dynamite (Jared Hess, 2004), the character known as Napoleon Dynamite (Jon Heder) is quite a unique fellow. His quirkiness and eccentricity are what make him as a character; they are the primary traits of his personality. Keep in mind, however, that he is not the only odd character in the film, but he has his own peerless way of defining himself separate from any other character(s). This effect is achieved through certain cinematic techniques that director Jared Hess utilizes in order to bring out Napoleon s persona in ways other than simply guessing who he really is. Rather, these techniques explicitly imply certain character traits; they are like clues that allow one to see the character just as the creator intended.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This not only shows his weakness as a person, but his immaturity as well, considering that high school students typically do not resort to this sort of behavior; it is normally reserved for younger children. He is a figure of mockery to nearly everyone at school, his uncle Rico, even his own brother Kip. Albeit he hardly tries to defend himself, he does attempt to make up for it by trying to look cool, but in extremely ineffective ways. The initial instance of this phenomenon of Napoleon s is when he first meets Pedro. He brags that a gang at his school wanted him to join (specifically for his bow staff skills ), which is almost certainly not true. Also, he tells Don a ridiculous, overly exaggerated story when he went to Alaska the previous summer. He claims that he went wolverine hunting with his uncle, and shot like fifty of em . Either there is an entire flipside to Napoleon s character that is never revealed, or he is embellishing a story that may not even exist in the first place. The latter seems like a much more reasonable conclusion. Not only does he fail to seem cool to the people at school, but he does not exactly have the best skills in picking up women. In more blunt words, he is just not very smooth. One example of this is when he talks to Deb in the cafeteria, and uses the corny pickup line, I see you re ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 21. The Power Of Language In Animal Farm, By George Orwell The power of language dominates the minds of the characters in Animal Farm by George Orwell, as they embark on a journey to rebellion. In the novel, Orwell assigns devious tactics to the animals that they use to reflect on the power of language. Not only does the author use propaganda to reflect the power of language, but he also adds a disposition of persuasiveness. Orwell incorporates power of language by having characters, like Squealer, integrate many different forms of propaganda. Another way that power of language is used in this novel is persuasion by the lead animals on the farm. The author uses these tactics to reflect on the power of language, in order to show the importance of words. To begin with, George Orwell consistently includes methods of propaganda, meaning government communications to the public that are designed to influence opinion. This is seen a lot throughout Animal Farm, with it s purpose being to emphasize the power of language. He does so by having characters, like Squealer, use many slick tactics while performing speeches to the animals. When declaring that the pigs were keeping the milk and apples to themselves, Squealer uses not one, but two great forms of propaganda. Those two being distraction tactics and appeals to authority. Squealer explained, Many of us actually dislike milk and apples. I dislike them myself! Our sole object in taking these things is to preserve our health. Milk and apples (and this has been proved by Science, comrades) contain substances absolutely necessary to the well being of a pig (35). In this speech, Squealer brings up science, or appeals to authority to prove his point, when really, there is no actual evidence that the pigs absolutely need milk and apples. Appeals to authority is the act of claiming that something must be true because it is believed by someone who is said to be an authority on the subject. Orwell incorporates this tactic by having Squealer mention that the facts he uses are from an authority on the subject. What the animals don t suspect is that Squealer never proves that the information is factual. He also turns the table and informs the animals that the pigs aren t getting milk and apples because they want to or like them, it s ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

When visiting Germany for the first time, having an understanding of the country s history, territorial regions, political environment, and customs of the people may keep a person from unintentionally offending a German citizen and make the adventure much more enjoyable. First, to understand how German culture and customs came into existence we must examine its past. Germany is a country rich with history spanning over two thousand years. Fortunately, we only need to look at the last century and a half to understand how modern day Germany came into fruition. Prior to 1870, Germany was only a collection of separate principalities. Then in 1871, Germany became part of the Holy Roman Empire and united into one country. Under the leadership of Otto von Bismarck, it transformed into a powerful, industrialized nation. Analysis Of Victor SпїЅjeur s The Mulatto Victor SГ©jeur s The Mulatto Published in 1837 in France by Victor Sejeur, The Mulatto is a graphic representation of both the physical violence occurring during the life of an enslaved person in St. Domingue. The American expatriate SГ©jeur was unencumbered by the limitations experienced by mid 19th century black authors in the United States and could freely express the violent reality of a society based in a slave economy. The story of Georges, the son of a slave owner and an enslaved woman, is told by an elderly narrator during the time after the slave rebellion to the unnamed narrator visiting St. Domingue for the first time. The Mulatto is an examination of the violence inherent in a society based upon slavery and the reverberation of that violence. SГ©jeur specifically focuses on how the violence of a society based upon a slave economy pervasively impacts the societal unit of the family and includes violence committed by the oppressors on the oppressed as well as the violent reaction of those that have had their family and humanity mutually devastated. The frame narrative structure of The Mulatto frames the violence occurring in the life of Georges during the time before abolition within an external contextual frame of his story being told during post slavery St. Domingue. • 43. The Philosophy Of Servant Leadership The Philosophy of Servant Leadership Servant leadership is a theory based on the notion that one should be a servant to others first, and a leader second. A person should have the desire to serve others, in order to be a servant leader. The following paper will address several key components of the servant leadershipphilosophy related to the book: The Servant: A Simple Story About the True Essence of Leadership, written by James C. Hunter. First, I will examine the theory of servant leadership including its history, definitions, and major concepts. Next, the function of this leadership style in the field of nursing and nursing roles will be discussed. Finally, how this philosophy can be utilized in my personal nursing practice and how the theory has sparked personal growth in myself as a leader will be examined. History of Servant Leadership The philosophy of servant leadership began with Robert K. Greenleaf in 1977. He first came about the idea of servant leadership while reading Journey to the East by Herman Hesse (Keith, 2016). This is a story of a group of travelers who were served by a man named Leo. He performed their menial chores and lifted their spirits with his song and his spirit (Keith, 2016). Leo disappeared one day, throwing the travelers into disarray (Keith, 2016). This ended the journey of the travelers. Many years later, one of the travelers saw Leo in a new job role as the head of the order that once sponsored the journey (Keith, 2016). Once a servant, ... • 46. Theme Of Mistakes In Romeo And Juliet Every story or piece of writing has more than one theme, some harder to find than others. In the play Romeo and Juliet the most obvious theme seems to be love, but, digging deeper in the play, more less obvious themes become noticeable. Shakespeare was trying to deliver the message of folliness and folly and how Romeo and juliet s lovewas rushed to quickly. Common sense could have been used to avoid the deaths of the couple and possibly end the family feud. Making mistakes are a natural part of what makes us humans. It is our flaw because no one is perfect, but those that are wise, learn from them. I do not consider a mistake a mistake unless there was no common sense used. Using common sense before making a mistake usually has a better, less harmful, outcome and could be avoided next time it happens. In the play Romeo and Juliet everyone is a subject of foolishness and folly, and neglecting a mistake lead to the unrealized death s of the two protagonists. The main character(s) who embodie the message of foolishness and folly points to Romeo, Tybalt, the Nurse and Friar lawrence and their lack of common sense. It may be useful to start with some of the key business principles he has vocalized and to refer to his background from there. His first principle relates to his own personal responsibility for the consequences associated with his business decisions. He has noted somewhat dramatically that if anyone has to go to jail as a result of following his direction, he should be the first to go. He also stated during his IPO in New York that if shareholders were unhappy, he would be willing to buy the company back from them. It is not clear whether this is a realistic suggestion, but the sentiment is certainly rare. This sense of personal responsibilityoften derives from starting in a position where one intimately knows all of his colleagues. This was the case when Alibaba began. Another of Ma s core principles has been to maintain a sense of direction. As the CEO is responsible for setting the mission and the aim of a company, this job also entails expressing this to leading management the company as a whole as well as setting in place the process to execute it. Looking back, Ma has been instrumental in the company s continual innovation, acquisition and expansion. This progress is reminiscent of clear task oriented goals. • 53. Nafta And The United Atlantic Free Trade Agreement Introduction In 1990, Mexico approached the US with a trade agreement to improve the Mexican economy through a bilateral agreement that would benefit both parties (Villarreal 1 3). Negotiations birthed the North Atlantic Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA), in 1994, which included three countries Mexico, America, and Canada. Since its inception, NAFTA has played an instrumental role in improving the economy of its member states (Thompson 121). Using this agreement, Mexico aimed to attract foreign investments and improve its economic performance in the same regard. For example, it strived to create new job opportunities and find new markets for its products (Thompson 121). These needs emanated from a period of economic slump that hit the Mexican economy in the 1980s and 1990s. These poor economic conditions had caused economic desperation in Mexico (Hufbauer 51 52). The main expectation of approaching the US for a bilateral trade agreement was to increase investor confidence in the country and improve its economic fortunes in the same regard (Villarreal 1 3). Other expected outcomes included improved export diversification, increased wage rates (for local workers), and increased sophistication of the local workforce (Thompson 121 122). • 56. `` Repent, Harlequin, By Harlan Ellison Harlan Ellison uses strong imagery in his short story Repent, Harlequin! said the Ticktockman to better develop the characters and setting. The personalities of both the Harlequin and the Ticktockman are developed through Ellison s imagery of their physical forms and of their personas. The dull setting of the short storyis created through the author s imagery of machinery, particularly clockwork, and Mondrian arrangements. Ellison s use of imagery allows the reader to pull from this story deeper, more significant meaning than what appears on the surface. According to White, the disruptive and rebellious Harlequinis an anomaly: the only human being distinguishable from machines (White, 1). In order to clearly establish the Harlequin as the only individual within his society, Ellison employs the use of strong imagery to cause him to stand out among the rest of the characters. One way that Ellison does this is using rather outlandish language to describe the Harlequin. Aside from being a personality, which in and of itself is outrageous to the System, the Harlequin is also a laughing, irresponsible japer of jabberwocky and jive (953, 955). This imagery of a jesteror a jokester creates the idea that the Harlequin is merely a nuisance to his society rather than a dangerous rebellious force. The word something stands out because during this time period (1910 1940) women were treated as things and not human beings, which is why the definition given by the Collins Dictionary represents more completely the conduct usually men manifested. The Causes Of The Protestant Reformation The Protestant Reformation regarded the followers of the Catholic Church finally rebelling and realizing all of the corruption happening in the Church. The Protestant Reformation took place in the 16th century and led to the revolutionization of Europe. The Reformation sparked the Scientific Revolution, Industrial Revolution, and the Enlightenment. The Reformation s challenge to Church authority revolution Europe because people did not accept earlier authorities, questioned earlier authorities thoughts, and started to think for themselves and said that God was not always the answer. During the Scientific Revolution, questioning applied to the natural world led to yielding the full understanding of nature. Copernicus was someone that questioned the natural world; he did not follow what people said before him without question. Copernicus question mathematicians in 1543 because he wanted to understand astronomy better. Other ways, questioning the natural world happened when people started to interrogate nature. Interrogating nature means: observing what is there and ask questions about it.
