The oldest international agreement in the field of the copyright for the defense or protection of
literary and artistic works is the main Berne Convention. Literary and artistic works are protected
through a protection that is termed as copyright. The major area of the copyright is controlled or
governed by the most important convention that is Berne Convention.
This most important convention that governs copyright is an international copyright treaty to
which India is also a member and it has also been signed by 143 countries on April, 1928. The
principal treaty that defends or protects the authors from various variety of woks was last revised in
1971. Numerous rights that are enjoyed by the authors are provided under the Berne Convention,
those rights are such as right to authorize, adaption of these woks or prohibit reproduction and
public communication. This Berne convention provides some rights to the treaty countries so as to
apply certain exceptions to protection. Photographic and cinematographic shall be protected

Do you know what your name means? The meaning of your name can say a lot about you. Some
people base name of figures of authority or after someone they knew before. Most people have
three parts to their name: first, middle, and last. This means that each on can describe you in
different ways. Each part of the name means and describes an attribute about you. My first name
is Kaleb. Kaleb can also me spelled as Caleb, which is first used in the Bible. Kaleb is a Hebrew
name meaning brave. Caleb was a comparison of Moses during his time in the wilderness. I love

At lunch she asked Hoshi. Trip wishes to celebrate Saint Valentine s Day. Why would he wish to
commemorate the death of a priest who was executed over 1600 years ago?
Hoshi almost spit out the bite of tuna salad she had just taken. She laughed. T Pol, the holiday may
have started with that but now it s about romance. Lots of hearts and flowers. And lots of chocolate.
Especially chocolate.
I see, T Pol said, although she was still puzzled. Before Hoshi could explain further, she was called
to the Bridge to deal with incoming messages from Starfleet.
T Pol didn t have time to inquire further before she was due to arrive at Trip s quarters. She rang
the chime at exactly 1900. Trip immediately opened the door. He was dressed in a blue silk shirt

At that time, HTD would receive $172,000/ truck in U.S funds FAS (free alongside ship) at the
discharging vessel in Doha. If the buyer wants to change the selling term to FOB (free on board),
which means that the buyer pays for the transportation of goods, HTD can give a discount of $2109
/truck, which is considered as the expense of transportation to Doha when HTD has the FAS term.
Answer question 3 with regard to changing the terms of sale to delivery at port in Baltimore. The
buyer would unload the trucks from the railcars
The buyer wants to change the terms of sale to delivery at port in Baltimore and unload the trucks
from the railcars, HTD can offer a discount of $ 1790/truck (handling = $200 + ocean freight rate
= $1,440 + insurance = $150), which is the total expense including fee for handling, the ocean
freight rate, and the insurance fee.
There is an interest rate that would make HDT change from one routing to another An rate of
interest that can cause a change in the routes would be calculated by
Assume that interest rate = i, we have $109, 470 + ($172,000 x 50 x 22 / 365i) = $137,300 = i =
0.054 = 5.4% ( 8%)
If i= 5.4% the cost will decrease compare to i = 8%. When substituting this rate in the equation for
the Chicago route, the cost is less than the Baltimore route.

7. High Failure Rate In Healthcare
There are an abundance of issues that contribute to the relatively high failure rate of IT projects in
healthcare. I believe the primary reason for this high failure rate is the complexity of healthcare
including complex and fluid processes and a varied workforce ranging from physician and nurse to
lab technician and aide (Boonstra, Versluis, Vos, 2014). Another significant reason for this failure
rate is the need for a paradigm shift to accept HIT in the healthcare setting and to be open to process
changes/improvements (Shea Belden, 2016; Chiocchio, Rabbat, Lebel, 2015). As a nurse, I can
attest that the overwhelming attitude toward HIT and changes/improvements is poor; nurses
appear to like the status quo. Another issue that significantly contributes to HIT failures is the fact
that healthcare is extremely legislated. All HIT projects need to meet security, confidentiality, and
regulatory constraints (Boonstra et al., 2014). A project may appear relatively successful, for
instance, an electronic medical record is being used to pass medications, and on the... Show more

Project management is successful in other industries; therefore, it is a reasonable assumption that it

some challenges. I already discussed that the complexities of healthcare are a primary reason for
HIT failures, and since most healthcare professionals are not well versed in project management,
they most likely will not be the project manager. Therefore, someone without healthcare experience

10. Volatile Aromatic Organic Compounds
1. Introduction The release of volatile aromatic organic compounds into the environment is a
serious problem as they distribute between the different phases in natural systems. Sediments can
be considered as a sink for volatile aromatic organic compounds because of their hydrophobic nature
and the resulting affinity to the sediment s organic matter. Organic matter consists of soft carbon,
where portioning is the main sorption process and hard carbon, where pore filling mechanisms
dominate (Zhao et al., 2002; Chai et al., 2006). Consequently, sorption/desorption processes are the
most important factors that determine the fate of volatile aromatic organic compounds in the
environment. The extensive production and release of aromatic organic compounds has led to a
widespread contamination of soils and sediments with these pollutants throughout the world,
threatening drinking water resources, especially petroleum hydrocarbons as constituents of
gasoline such as Benzene, 1,2 dichlorobenzene, Toluene and m xylene. It was proposed that
sorption of the sorbate molecules may cause deformation of flexible sorbent solids, such as natural
organic matter and organo clays resulting in an entrapment of sorbed molecules during desorption
(Weber et al., 2002; Lu and Pignatello, 2004). Several researchers have tried to associate the
maximum sorption capacities of organic compounds with the sorbed amounts in the slow and very
slow desorbing domains (Van Heuvel et al., 2005; Van Heuvel and

12. Intellectual Property ( Ip ) Is Everywhere
Intellectual Property (IP) is everywhere. IP is inventions. IP is literary and artistic works. IP is
designs or symbols. IP is names and images used in commerce. Almost everything is IP. These
things can be protected by patent, copyright, service mark, or trademark. These topics are very
complicated; the consolidated version of US patentlaws and rules is over 200 pages long. While
there are many good things about IP protection, there are also many unnecessary problems with it
that should be changed. Some of these problems include IP education, and the lack of it, the time
frame that these protections span, and the major lack of solid international laws. In most grade
schools and high schools, the only IP protection education is your English teachers telling you not
to plagiarize copyrighted works, or a business class may go into it a little. The majority of patent
and copyrighteducation is in law schools but it is important to all of us, even if we don t want to
go into law, that we know these laws. Everybody is affected by IP, everybody creates IP, and
everybody is a copyright holder. Many people don t know that any original work is copyrighted
from the moment it is created in a tangible space, such as paper, film, or silicon chip, no registration
necessary. Copyrightable works include literary works, musical compositions, films, software
programs, or paintings. Patents cover inventions, ideas, designs, and compositions of matter. To get

13. What Was The Impact Of Religion In America
Religion in America
Religion had both positive and negative impact on the lives of Americans before the Civil war. It
influenced the morals, rules and regulations of the colonies. Most of the colonies were established
based on Christian beliefs and values. There was great religious diversity; Massachusetts was
populated with pilgrims and puritans, the Quakers in Pennsylvania and Catholics in Maryland.
Each colony believed in their faith and expected everyone to follow their religion. Puritans believed
that they had been ordained by God to create a puritan society and did not believe in religious
tolerance. The Catholics on the other hand dominated Maryland and the Quakers dominated
Pennsylvania. Catholics and Protestants did not approve of each other religion. These divisions
resulted in the persecutions of those who had different beliefs causing settlement of different
groups in different colonies, hence the establishment of different states in America.

Individuals did not have the freedom to live their lives freely without interference of the church

14. As You Like It and Edward Scissorhands Essay
Inherent within humanity is the need to belong, in which an individual must accept one another in
order to achieve a greater sense of connectedness and identity. This is firstly evident in
Shakespeare s As You Like It whereby the ideas of love are used to reveal how relationships are
fundamental to one s sense of belonging. Act 1 Scene 3 explores belonging and not belonging
through loveand nature as it establishes the plot at the mark of separation from court and country
by Rosalind and Celia breaking the sense of belonging to place. Celia and Rosalind convey a
strong bond evident in Celia s plea to her father, Duke Frederick, to keep Rosalind at court rather
than banishing her to the Forest of Arden. Conventions of love are evident... Show more content on

These settings are symbolic of the lack of belonging which is felt when the natural order is
destroyed and baser natural instincts conquer positive feelings. Now go we in content, to liberty
and not to banishment concludes the scene with a rhyming couplet giving the scene a positive
ending through a tone of contentment that arises from a greater sense of belonging and connection
between individuals.
Similarly, the film by Tim Burton, Edward Scissorhandsportrays deep ideas about belonging
whereby notions of acceptance and identity are illustrated through the use of filming techniques.
Love and acceptance are challenged when Peg Boggs, the Avon representative rescues Edward
from the mansion on top of the hill where he has spent his entirety. Upon Peg entering, a wide
shot shows the sun shining into the mansion symbolising how the outside world has forever shone
through but never been explored. The fear and disappointment of being judged for the hands that

Onaway Island
The glowing sun melts into the glistening lake waters through the dense pine trees. Pink and
orange hues are painted across the dimly light sky as wispy clouds float out of sight. A gentle wind
leaves a chill in the August air. Crickets chirp as the day transitions into night. Campers start to
trickle into the candle lit chapel, arms crossed, voices silenced. The angled ceilings and open
walls allow for a fully immersive experience. I don t consider myself a religious person, but
experiencing a night on Onaway is truly an otherworldly experience. I walk into the chapel and
make a beeline for the benches on the far left of the chapel. These seats are angled just so the sun
doesn t get in your eyes as it begins to set. I shake the loose, dry, pine needles out of my sandals
and watch them drift back onto the floor. I twirl the handmade friendship bracelet encircled
around my wrist as I glance around the lofty rafters. Cobwebs missed by the early morning
cleaning dangle lazily like doilies glued to the ceiling. Here I sit sandwiched in between my best
friends. Katie on my left and Becky on my right. We take up a section composed entirely of just
our friends. Whispered jokes and half smiles are flashed when the leaders aren t paying attention.
Bright colored Nalgene water bottles litter the ground beneath the pews, each covered with more
stickers than the next. Chaco clad feet tap are tapped on the bottoms to shake out the stuck pine

16. Perin V. Hayne Case Summary
The case involving Perin v. Hayne seeks to determine if the defendant Dr. Robert Hayne, was in
any way negligent when he performed a surgical procedure on the plaintiff Ilene Perin, described
as a cervical fusion. This particular procedure sought to alleviate pressure, numbness, weakness
and pain in the plaintiff s back. As a result of this procedure, the plaintiff was left with vocal cord
damage that severely diminished her ability to speak above a whisper. This is supported by the
reading, but plaintiff alleged she suffered paralysis of a vocal cord because of injury to the right
recurrent laryngeal nerve during surgery(Showalter, 2017, pg.171). The plaintiff, Ilene Perin, filed
suit against the defendant Dr. Hayne, under the guise of res ipsa loquitur, specific negligence,

17. Film Analysis Of The Graduate And Annie Hall
Before the 1960s there were plenty of films made. In the 1950s things began to change for, in my
opinion, the better. It started with a new form of acting called method acting that encouraged
improvisation. This was key because it gave actors more control over their characters which
allowed for more realistic representations of characters allowing audiences to connect better to the
film. Having more control over a character is something that I found vital because it adds an even
deeper element to the film as a whole. Another important thing added in the 1950s was the addition
of subject matters and themes that focused on ordinary individuals. This was important again
because it added another element to the films that audiences could connect to. In the 1960s there
was even more change to the film industry. For example, there was a new focus on youth, with
psychological character studies of offbeat anti heroes. More explicit presentation of sexuality,
violence and drug use on screen. Rebellion vs. the American mainstream, with new values and
points of view. Self conscious use of cinematic effects, reflecting European influence and new twists
on old film genre. These new changes can be seen in cinematic and thematic elements in films
including The Graduate and Annie Hall. To start this film analysis, we ll start with The Graduate
directed by Mike Nichols. Cinematically there were a lot of things added in this film that shows
these new features added to films in the

Nowadays, the airline industry is known as one of the most common type of transportation for
long and short distances. Over thousands of passengers are traveling by aircrafts every day. But,
this industry had faced with serious failures during last decades that in some cases, the human
loss was one of these failures consequences. The Turkish 981 air crash (as shown in Figure: 1) is a

after 10 minutes of flight. The Turkish aircraft was the second Mc_ Donnell Douglas

Douglas started to enter different jumbo jets to airline industry after producing jet planes for US
military in order to introduce a new method of cargo door design. While, after the disaster, it was
found that technical issues during the design of Douglas productions were the main reasons of
Turkish flight crash (Johnston, 1976, p. 2).In this essay,Douglass history, main reasons of this air

19. The Big Shift By Darrel Bricker And John Ibbitson
The thesis put forth by Darrel Bricker and John Ibbitson in The Big Shift: The Seismic Change in
Canadian Politics, Business, and Culture and What It Means for Our Future , is premised on the
notion that the Laurentian Consensus has ended due to its reluctance to accept the changes that
Canada has gone, and will go through. They argue that their resistance to change created an
opportunity for the Conservative party to become the new natural governing party in Canada
(Bricker Ibbitson, 2013). By recognizing and acting on these changes, the Conservative party built a
platform for success which lead to the outcome of the 2011 federal election. They argue that the
seismic shift in the demographics of Canadian voters from one side of the political spectrum to the
other granted Conservatives this victory. This paper will explore the flaws within their argument,
and the extent to which this shift is perpetual in nature.
The Laurentian Consensus can be defined as the collective rule by those along the St. Lawrence
River including Ottawa, Kingston, Toronto, Montreal and Quebec political, business, academic,
cultural and media elites. This long standing coalition, closely linked with the ideas and values of
the Liberal party has been the reigning power in Canadian government over the last century. The
authors emphasize that the Laurentian consensus coming to an end signifies a shift from old to
new Canada, with new values emerging and political fundamentals have fallen into

One mans theory: A solution?
In 1990 John Martin an Oceanographer presented the idea that phytoplankton are responsible for
almost half of the photosynthesis that occurs on the earth.(Dopyra, 1996) Photosynthesis is an
important part of the carbon cycle, fixating carbon from the atmosphere and releasing oxygen as a
byproduct of this process. According to Martin s theory, growth is limited by the availability of iron
and if the oceans could be made more iron rich, the massive blooms of phytoplankton could fixate
massive amounts of carbon dioxide without harm to the environment.
Expectations ran high, and for over 10 years scientists raced to plan and execute experiments to
see if his theory would provide a solution for the damage that has been done to our planet through
mankind s industrialization efforts. Thousands of papers were submitted and published and
experiments were carried out to determine if seeding the ocean with iron was a simple solution to a

Any city built on an enormous hill can be considered an acropolis, but in today s world, The

the height of Greece s civilization, the Acropolis was also a meeting and marketplace for citizens
to mingle to buy goods, to discuss politics, and to vote in the first democracy in the world.
History
The Acropolis was home to many inhabitants long before the Greeks lived there. Although the
earliest artifacts of the Acropolis showed that it had been occupied during the Neolithic age,
most of the relics date back to the Mycenaean period (1900 BCE to 1100 BCE) and the Classical
period (500 BCE to 330 BCE). During the Neolithic and Mycenaean ages, the residents chose to
live there because it was fairly easy to defend since they could see all of the land around it for
miles. After centuries of living on the Acropolis, many buildings and structures relating to Athena,

23. Essay On 1984 And Fahrenheit 451
Introduction Man over the years has thought of a very simple, yet controversial question, can man
destroy itself? . Thesis In the books, 1984, by George Orwell, and Fahrenheit 451, by Ray
Bradbury, each show that man has a number of potential ways to destroy itself, like technology,
war, and the usage of words. Technology Technology and technological advancements were very
prevalent in the book Fahrenheit 451, by Ray Bradbury, and many technological advancements are
happening today, including the idea and advancements of artificial intelligences, AI. In the book
Fahrenheit 451, there are many indications of a society that is more technologically advanced, but
at the same time they are at a point of social destruction. In the book... Show more content on

Many things today are already controlled by some sort of power source which can be hacked
like pacemakers or a power grid, but as AI advances it could control things like your car or an
airplane, which no matter what could potentially be hacked and would be used as weapons of
mass destruction if they were to be. When AI advances it has no emotion, so if we make one to
do something that can cause devastating damage to an area, it would have no second thoughts
about doing it, and unless stopped by an outside force, it would continue with its mission,
programmers could also start an AI on a beneficial task, but eventually find a way to make it
destructive for its on personal goal. These AIs that humanity could create could become super
intelligent and potentially dangerous thing for humanity because they could unalign themselves
from our goals and make their own which could include destroying the human race because we
would be inferior to it. War The books 1984 and Fahrenheit 451, both societies are often exposed
to the idea of war and how they should support it, and society today is often exposed to war as
well. In both books, war is used as propaganda to control society, and it is also an idea that is to
be supported no matter what. In 1984, the society is controlled by the flow of hatred.

24. Analysis Of James Overcoming The World
James Chapter 1: 13 18 (State this twice)
Overcoming the World (State this twice)
There are times in our lives when our own lust leads to spiritual death. When such occurs,
conceived lust is sin which results in death, but God allows us to choose life.
The book of James was written by Jesus s Half brother James also known as the holy brother
(Matthew 13:55). He is also the brother of Jude. It was written about AD 50. and known as the
letters or the epistles. What picked my interest is James did not believe in Jesus mission on earth.
He later became an Apostle through Paul and was prominent in the church (Acts 15:13 22). James
was writing to the Christian Jews at that time who were being persecuted which took place in
Palestine. He encouraged ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In Romans 12: verses 1 2 states: I beseech you, therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that
you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable
service. And do not be conformed to this world, be ye transformed by the renewing of your
mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God. A mind that
is not renewed in God s word eventually becomes reprobate. Reprobate means unable to make a
Godly judgment. This causes you to reject God and the worldly things begin to make sense to
you. (Romans 12: 1 2; Romans 1:28; Psalm 81:11 12). If there is no hunger for the word of God
in our lives, this leaves the door open for evil, sin, and lust to come in our heart. In Jeremiah 17:
9 it states the heart is deceitful above all things, And desperately wicked; who can know it?
When we hear the word of God we must be doers of the word. Let the word (Jesus) transform you
into what he has called you to be. Act on the word for it is truth not bondage to the believer. God

This essay aims to describe the principles of homeostasis, and the contribution of the cardiovascular
system to homeostasis. Using the example of congestive heart failure (CHF), the causes and the
consequences of a homeostatic imbalance in cardiac output will be explained.
Homeostatic principles
Homeostasis can generally be defined as the condition in which the body s internal environment
remains relatively constant within physiological limits [1]. This type of equilibrium is dynamic as
the body is constantly subject to stimuli, which produce stress responses (stressors). The body s
homeostatic mechanisms therefore act to counter these stressors and return equilibrium within
narrow limits that allow the body to maintain life. A key function of every body system is
preserving a constant internal environment, which involves maintaining the volume of body fluid.
To ensure that body cells function well, homeostasis is required to regulate the composition of
extracellular fluid (ECF), for example ECF within blood vessels is blood plasma; in the brain and
spinal cord this is cerebrospinal fluid. One third of body water is in the ECF [2], which constitutes
the body s internal environment . The precise regulation of substances such as glucose, oxygen,
ions and waste such as carbon dioxide is essential to ensure that cells are subject to conditions that
are optimum for life.
The stressors that the body could be exposed to can either originate from the internal or external

During the civil rights movement, the people (African American) and theirs leaders use different
methods or approaches to achieve their goal, but I will focus on DR Martin Luther King JR and
Malcolm X philosophies towards the role of violence . DR King and Malcolm X are two black men
living in America when black peopleare treated and considered inferior human race. They are
actually second class citizens in their own country. Although Dr King and Malcolm X goals are the
same, but their method or approach towards achieving it are drastically different. Dr King believed
that to work against injustice, one must develop a nonviolent frame of mind to achieve that because
differences cannot be settled through violence. I think that... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

Black is Beautiful. Black power movement believed that black folks have run out of patience
seeing their people dehumanized as if they are common animals that worth nothing on earth.
They believed that it is time for blacks to take control of their selves instead of been

ability of black people to political get together and organize themselves so that they can speak
form a position of strength rather a position of weakness (Lander 1967,p.8). Now looking at this
definition, I can say that their philosophy is to liberate black people from white colony and
instilling Black people mind that Black is beautiful and gorgeous in every aspect of life. Black
power movement did not believe that blacks should totally assimilate into white folks because
that means that their history is worth not preserving. This leads me back to what I believed is
their philosophy (liberating Blacks form white colony). The Black power movement also accepted
Malcolm X philosophy towards violence than Dr King s view towards violence. They believed that
Dr King view of nonviolence tactics is not a viable option for blacks libration, in fact integration
is as good as surrendering to white supremacy. Their believe is that blacks should be a force of

27. Objectives Of The Operation Andreas
German Nazis developed the Operation Bernhard during the Second World War, as a continuation
of the so called Operation Andreas. The goal of both operations was to flood the UK with
counterfeit notes to provoke a shock effect in UK economy in both national and international scale.
The experience of Germany in the inter war period served as an example of the devastating effects
of hyperinflation in an economy. The plan focused on the printing of counterfeit notes with the
largest number in circulation, ВЈ5, ВЈ10, ВЈ20, and ВЈ50. It also contemplated the production of
US dollars but in a lesser extent because of technical difficulties.
Operation Bernhard started in 1942 when Himmler revived the operation and assigned the mission
to Bernhard KrГјger, an SS Major. KrГјger purpose was to improve Operation Andreas to make it
more efficient. He moved the production centre to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, near
Berlin, and employed Jewish prisoners to produce counterfeit British notes. Around 142 Jewish
were part of the operation, being isolated from the rest of the camp to avoid the spread of any
detail about the mission. This group of prisoners managed to reproduce almost perfectly the British
pounds, producing between ВЈ132 million and ВЈ300 million. Among the different ways of

number of people experience more serious side effects, like worsening of seizures, depression,
bleeding, yellow eyes/skin, muscle pain, different allergic reactions, rashes(a Lamictal rash can
be a life threatening problem due to infection) and in a number of people it can also lead to a
suicide attempt. The last one is a severe threat, a lot of people underestimate the degree of suicide
attempts. In fact over 1.1 million Americans attempt suicide every year, it s so bad, that 1 out of 14
Americans knows someone who committed suicide last year. Woldwide the numbers are even
worse, the number of suicide attempts jumps up to an astonishing 10 20 million. To put this in

29. Hamlet and the Issue of Revenge in William Shakespeare s Play
Hamlet and the Issue of Revenge in William Shakespeare s Play
The question of why Hamlet does not immediately avenge his father s death is perhaps one of
the most perplexing problems faced by an audience. Each generation of viewers has come up
with it s own explanation, and it has now become the most widely known critical problem in
Shakespearean studies. A rather simplistic, yet valid standpoint to take on this problem is that it
was essential to the tragedy s narrative progression. As Hanmer said had he gone naturally to
work, there would have been an end to our play! . Shakespeare, then, is faced with a problem
Hamlet must delay his revenge, and he has to come up with reasons why. The... Show more content

By doing this Hamlet hopes to receive a negative reception from the King, thus revealing the ugly
burden on his conscience. The play, in depicting the King s guilt, does have a certain degree of
success. His wish for the lights to come on and his order of Away! certainly suggest he was not
feeling altogether comfortable in the situation, but there of course could have been a number of
reasons for his minor distress. For Hamlet however it is sufficient, for in later conversation with
Horatio he says, I ll take the ghost s word for a thousand pound!
Hamlet has now secured in his mind that the Ghost was telling the truth, and so can have no doubt
that revenge is what Claudius deserves. His delay however does not subside, so what can be his
reason now?
Much of his hesitation it seems comes as a result of his own self doubt. He feels he lacks the
powerful warrior image; the one which his Father and so many more do possess. In this respect
feelings of inferiority paralyse him to take any action. One can see, in Hamlet s first soliloquy
how insignificant he feels compared to his father when he says no more like my father/Than I to
Hercules . These feelings also apply to figures such as Fortinbras, the prince of Norway, who in
his effort to regain his Father s lost land, leads an army of mass and charge . These actions of

30. Merlin s Resident Forest In Arthurian Myth
Moving on, though Geoffrey s description of Merlin s resident forest is picturesque, it must be
noted that the forest in Arthurian tradition held demonic elements, the ancestral spirits, and the
forces of nature... The Medieval society existed in a microcosm anything outside the boundaries of
said society existed the dark and unknown this was the land of monsters. In the Vita, this is where
Merlinchooses to reside, and in Robert s Merlin, Merlin becomes one of these spirits himself:
[Gawain] continued the quest for Merlin, going all through the realm of Logres and at length to
Little Britain. As he was riding through the forest at Broceliande, he heard Merlin speaking, but

Yet another element exists in Merlin s sojourn from society. For example, upon seeing an old
companion recover from being a wild man tanks to a magical fountain in the forest, Merlin
instructs the man to act in service to God in tank for his recover, upon which the man replies
Reverend father... I shall joyfully stay in the woods with you, and worship God with my whole
mind. Merlin, in Geoffrey s account, continues to serve God, and as state before, espouses
wisdom even through his madness. Perhaps instead of a demonic spirit, Merlin can be
understood as a hermetic saint. Neil Thomas, for his part argues that Geoffrey... must have had
to adapt recalcitrant material (which, to judge from the analogues, portrayed Merlin as a sinner
in some sense or other) so as to be able to write a vita in the technical sense of a saint s life.
Geoffrey spun Celtic and Christian tradition in such a way as to portray Merlin in a saintly light,
yet it would be imprudent (as Thomas suggests) to ignore all the material that casts Merlin as a
sinner. Regardless, Merlin s duality is again evident leaving the audience perplexed on whether to
believe in conventional understandings of monstrosity, or to believe in Geoffrey s narrative

most common side because it is the easy way out . They usually do not take the less common side

It is within this framework that I consider important to study the way in which sound is built and
used in audiovisual products to narrate, generate sensations and configure worlds , real and
fantastic, respect to the reality of the history of fiction (which may not coincide with reality as the
viewer knows it in his own life, but that this understands and accepts as the reality of history that is
being counting within the audiovisual piece).
As Balsam refers , a sound can create emphasis in any scene that is, can function as a punctuation
mark , when it accentuates and strengthens the visual image.
This time we will focus on the analysis of the sound of a film that, in addition, to be well
achieved according to my personal appreciation, has been nominated for several awards for sound
and has won some of them. It is then a proposal that, when like others, it is convenient to analyze
and understand, to take from it what works best for us or interest, or for our future productions.
For this I have chosen the feature film Pan s labyrinth (2006) by director Guillermo del Toro; in
charge of the sound Martin
HernГЎndez, Jaime Baksht and Miguel ГЃngel Polo. I choose this movie because I think, (and this
is what I am trying to proof with this work) , that it has a sound design very detailed and congruent

However, bioinformaticsfacilitates scientists to study and conduct global analysis of all the
available data. This allows researchers, to uncover common principles that may be applied across
numerous systems, which results in different features to be highlighted (Luscombe , et al., 2001).
Due to the increased amount of research that has been conducted in association with genes and
proteins, computational methods such as bioinformatics has become ... Show more content on

Computational biology became popular during the 1970 s when the price of computers decreased
and they were easier to use and more readily available. Subsequently, this new technology was
introduced primarily to store and manage data that was produced through genomic research. This
then resulted in investigations to be completed in shorter amounts of time, which lead to larger
investigations, leading to more data being produced. Thus, bigger and better computers were
needed to manage the data that was generated. Hence, bioinformatics was used to create tools,
algorithms and databases, which enabled comprehensive management of data. Therefore, as more
and more data is being produced, the need for more powerful computers are needed in order to
manage the data. Furthermore, due to large amount of data being generated, larger databases are
required and more powerful tools are needed to manage and store the data.
The proteins play a key role in the biological function and their studies make possible to understand
the mechanisms that occur in many biological events. The human genome project enabled the
emergence of proteomics. Proteomics is the large scale study of proteins, particularly the functions
and structure of different proteins. The field of bioinformatics has had a significant effect in
proteomics, as it has introduced new algorithms to handle large and heterogeneous data sets.
Moreover, Bioinformatics has offered the

42. The British Educational System
THE BRITISH EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM.
The basic features of the British educational system are the same as they are anywhere else in
Europe. There are three recognized stages, with children moving from the first stage (primary) to
the second stage (secondary) at around the age of 11. The third (tertiary) stage is further education
at university or college. British children start compulsory education at the age of five. Very young
children, ususally 3 or 4 years old go to nursery school. Nursery edcuation is voluntary.
However, there is quite a lot which distinguishes education in Britain from the way it works in other
countries. Compulsory education is free of charge, but parents may spend money on educating their
children privately if ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Nor does it dictate the exact hours of the school day, the exact dates of holidays or the exact age at
which a child must start in full time education. It does not manage an institution s finances either, it
just decides how much money to give it. In general, as many details as possible are left up to the
individual institution or the Local Education Authority (LEA, a branch of local government). All
the central government does is to ensure the availability of education, and set overall learning
objectives which they enforce through a system of inspectors.
Recent developments.
Some of the changes that have taken place in British education reflect the wider social process of
increased egalitarianism. Before 1965 most children had to take an exam (=the eleven plus exam)
at about the age of eleven, at the end of their primary schooling. If they passed this exam, they went
to a grammar school where they were taught academic subjects to prepare them for university ;
if they failed, they went to a secondary modern school, where they teach practical, job related
subjects, and pupils learn skills like hairdressing or travel and tourism. Many people argued that
it was wrong for a person s future life to be decided at so young an age. The children who went to
secondary moderns tended to be seen as failures . Moreover, the system seemed to reinforce class
distinctions (more higher class children managed to get into the grammar schools). So

43. Descriptive Essay On Ellen White
Many people have shared their stereotypes of Ellen White. Looking at her life on surface level
she is viewed as being quiet strict and conservative. The book Walking with Ellen White by
George R. Knight gives detailed insight into the everyday troubles as well as the humorous and
adventures side of Ellen White. Ellen White is such an influential person in the Adventist
church, but she is often times taken out of context and misunderstood. This book takes the
reader on Ellen White s journey. Telling her story and revealing who she is on a personal level. I
found the book Walking with Ellen White to truly be a game changer. My eyes were opened to
just how much Ellen White is like me. She is an adventure seeker, humorous, friend, and also
timid. I have always viewed Ellen White as being in a way a step above everyone else. I think I
viewed her this way because of the visions she was given and all the books she has written. This
book showed me that she has had her fair share of heart break as well. I really like that this book
shows every side of her life. So often her rules and regulations are shared, but rarely is her full
character and personality shared. I enjoyed that the book shared all of her heart break with us as
well. Ellen White had endured problems in her marriage, deaths of multiple children, and
financial difficulties. Everyone can relate with her on one of these topics. Seeing how she
overcame them all and stayed strong in her faith is inspiring and motivating. After learning more
about Ellen White s life one of the many lessons I have learned that I can apply to my life is that
it is okay to be timid. I have struggled with being timid my whole life. I have never liked this
aspect of myself and often times found myself getting jealous of extroverted people. Ellen White
says it best when she says she was naturally so timid and retiring that it was painful for me to
meet strangers (45). I have often times wondered how god could use me to spread His word
when I was to scared to talk to people. Ellen White wondered the same thing when she was given
a vision and was called to share it with others. By surrendering her life to God she was given the
strength and courage to share with others what God

44. Southern Gothicism In William Faulkner s A Rose For Emily
A Rose For Emily During the late eighteenth century, gothicism became a popular literary genre.
Years later, William Faulkner introduced the idea of Southern gothicism, which combined elements
of Southern regionalism and gothicism. A fine example of Southern gothicism is Faulkner s short
story, A Rose For Emily. William Faulkner
was born in New Albany, Mississippi, on September
25, 1897, into a Southern family. As a child, Faulkner demonstrated exceptional artistic abilities
in drawing and poetry. However, he was considered an indifferent student compared to his
classmates and peers. In 1915 he dropped out of high school to work for his grandfather and
began submitting art and poetry to the University of Mississippi yearbook. During World War 1,
Faulkner was accepted into the Royal Canadian Air Force to become a pilot, but the war ended
before he could experience any combat. He returned to his hometown to attend the University of
Mississippi where his first poem, L Apres midi d un faune was published in August 1919. Later in
the year, the Mississippian published his short story Landing in Luck.
Faulkner later returned to Oxford, where he worked as a university postmaster for some time. In
1924, he published The Marble Farm and moved to New Orleans a year later to associate with
other writers. He later published his first notable success, Sartoris in 1929. Later that year he
married his high school sweetheart, Estelle Oldham and published what is known as his greatest
work, The Sound and the Fury, followed by A Rose for Emily in 1930. By the mid 1940 s,
William Faulkner s work was well known across the country. In 1959 Faulkner suffered serious
injuries after a horse riding accident and later died of a heart attack on July 6, 1962. Faulkner in
his works used pieces of his own life and his family s history to create stories and plots. By the
time of his death, Faulkner published almost twenty novels and, several volumes of short fiction,
and two volumes of poetry (Tim).
A Rose for Emily was first published on April 30, 1930 in the issue of Forum. It was Faulkner s
first short story that was published in a major magazine. The story starts with the death of Emily
Grierson. It is divided into

46. Supernatural Elements In Beowulf And The Lais Of Marie De...
Medieval and 16th century writers frequently used supernatural elements to tell their stories. Two
stories that are examples of this writing with supernatural elements are Beowulf , written by an
anonymous Anglo Saxon poet, and Lanval , from The Lais of Marie de France, written by Marie
de France. Both writers use supernatural elements in their stories to reflect emotions such as love,
evil, and power. The role of the supernatural in medieval writing helps writers to tell their stories by
developing the theme and the emotions of the characters as shown in Beowulf and Lanval .

The people were terrified by these demons as stated by the unknown author, All were

swooped in the long nights on the misty moors; nobody knows where these reavers from hell
roam on their errands. (pg. ?, lines 159 163). These words indicate the gravity of the people s
situation and the significant danger that they are in from these evil demons. The second story is
Lanval from The Lais by Marie de France. This story is a supernatural love story between a very
lonely knight from King Arthur s court named Lanval and a beautiful, mystical lady that he falls
madly in love with. The lady promises him riches beyond his wildest dreams as long as he doesn
t tell anyone about her. The supernatural effect indicates that sometimes love has to be
otherworldly to be true and lasting love. Marie de France wrote in Lanval , when you want to talk

47. Disengagement Theory Case Study
In a contemporary social work practice, Mr Anderson report detailed his symptoms which points
towards possibility of early brain damage (dementia), although further investigation is important
for early intervention and to find out what support he and his carer needs. Everyone grieves
differently and Mr Anderson s grieving process could have exacerbated his misuses of alcohol,
isolation and his mutual withdrawer, which reinforces the psychosocial theories; the
disengagement theory, activity theory and continuity theory, however, this log will explore the
disengagement theory and activity theory. Disengagement theory claimed that ageing is
inevitable, it is natural and acceptable for older people to withdraw from the society according to
Cumming Henry, (1961). Drawing from a biological perspective, Mr Anderson s physical energy
has decreased, as older adult energy diminishes as they age; also, his interest in the society has
lessen, he now has fewer interaction. From psychological level, he has been showing less interest
in things that are going on around him and he spend more time looking inward and embracing his
alcohol... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Although, social isolation is a common condition among the older people, which often affect
their wellbeing, health and quality of life (Richard et al. 2009:338). However, the support for
disengagement theory is limited, and it s has been criticised that it lacks empirical supports with
no research base, as many older adults wish to remain active and engaged in their community
activities, therefore social withdrawal doesn t have to be inevitable, it s a process and for some
people its occurs over time and not just at once (Harold

48. What Is The Availability And Patterns Of Nutrient Uptake...
The availability and patterns of nutrient uptake in biofilms differs from that of planktonic cells. The
bacterial cells in biofilms exchange nutrients and metabolites by means of water channels between
the micro colonies (Kokare et al., 2009). The microbes living deep within natural biofilms may
often receive low nutrition due to restricted rates of diffusion of nutrients through the biofilm
(Petroff et al., 2011). Biofilms are also known to provide a suitable environment for syntrophic
relationships between the two metabolically distinct bacteriafor the exchange of substrates/nutrients
(Kokare et al., 2009).

chromosomal DNA (Donlan, 2002). ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Few hypotheses have emerged to explain the mechanism of antimicrobial resistance in biofilms. For
example, slow and incomplete penetration of biofilm, presence of resistant phenotype of some
bacteria, formation of persister cells and altered environment within biofilms antagonize antibiotic
action (Dufour et al., 2010; Stewart William Costerton, 2001)
Altered stress response. Bacteria in biofilms can express stress responsive genes in greater amount
and switch to forms that are more tolerant. The existence of common regulators, the presence of
extracellular polymeric substances, and biofilm heterogeneity are major factors by which biofilms
show tolerance against various stressors such as, starvation, heat or cold shock, cell density, pH,
and osmolarity (Dufour et al., 2010; Gambino Cappitelli, 2016).
Quorum sensing. Quorum sensing (QS) is a cell to cell communication mechanism, in which a
small diffusible signal molecule is produced, released, sensed and responded to, by bacterial cells
(and Bassler, 2001; Cvitkovitch, Li, Ellen, 2003; Li Tian, 2012; Waters Bassler, 2005). Different
QS signaling molecules and mechanisms have been explored in various bacterial genera over the
years (Irie Parsek, 2008). When the bacterial population reaches a threshold or quorum level, QS
signaling initiates and the auto inducers bind and trigger functions of target genes

Will ProCurve be able to thrive under the umbrella of TSG? Or should it stand on its own within
HP? Present the pros and cons of each option and then make a decision.
I believe that putting it with TSG is the best that they have done for it, but they should put it on
its own. If you look at Cisco and 3com, they show you how much potential the market has and
how much ProCurve has of that market. ProCurve should stand on its own to be able to better
monitor and to give the person responsible for it his full focus. The pros of being a stand alone
are: full focus from the management on ProCurve products, separate sales team, marketing team,
R amp;D, etc., more entrepreneurial sprit. The Cons are that HP would compare it to all the
other larger departments and if it didn t perform as high as they did, they might sell it like they
previously were planning to do. The pros of being under TSG is that ProCurve will not be
compared to other departments, but rather the whole TSG will be, this will show more revenue
from that department and if ProCurve didn t perform as well, it can be covered by other
revenues. TSG can allocate more things to ProCurve faster and decisions can be done faster and
on a smaller scale. The cons of being under TSG are that TSG can allocate things different and not
really give ProCurve the attention it needs to grow to its potential, Sales and marketing

Calvin Coolidge Calvin Coolidge was the 30th president of the United States. Throughout his time

established the Revenue Act, signed the Immigration Act, and signed the Indian Citizenship Act.
Each one of these acts impacted The United States and the people who live in it. These
accomplishments made Calvin Coolidge an effective president of the United States. When Calvin
Coolidge was president he established the Revenue Acts. There was three stages beginning with
the Revenue Act of 1924, then 1926, and 1928. The bill was a tax on wealthy individuals to
