Alfonso Cuaron s Use Of Symbolism In Children Of Men
Cinematic techniques play an essential part in a film s quest to create a particular effect or to
uncover a particular theme. The dystopian movie, Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuaron,
incorporates numerous symbols to convey a much broader meaning to its theme driven story line.
The symbols in the film play a significant role helping explain the two main underlying themes in
the film, which are hope and the coming of age. Without the use of the many symbols, it would be
difficult to understand the main themes the film is trying to explore. In this paper I argue how the
use of symbols bring a deeper meaning to the story by unveiling some important traits in the
characters. I also argue how symbolusage uncovers the themes of hope and the coming of age that
the film is exploring. The first symbol that Cuaron explores is one of a biblical reference. The main
character in the film, Theo, portrays many similarities to Jesus. One may not initially see this, but
after close analysis, it becomes very clear that spirituality is embedded in the storyline. During the
majority of the film, Theo is encompassed by weapons but remains peaceful and never resorts to
violence while protecting Kee throughout his journey. Also, animals surround Theo, which are a
symbol that is supposed to illustrate Theo s righteousness and integrity. This is shown in contrast to
the humans living in cages, illustrating the significant themeof hope that Theo represents. Arguably

Ambition Vs Vanity
Philippians 2:3 4 says Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you
should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. Each of you
should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well.
God has told us to focus on the humility of others and not our own. These days people are
devoting their lives to unholy things and events, instead of pouring their soul into something pure
and good for mankind. If we live life egotistical and greedy, people will separate instead of coming
together as one. Machiavelli states in The prince that people who want to strive should be cunning,

Gut Microbiome
A microbiome is a community of microorganism that exist in a certain environment. Looking at gut
microbiomes in particular, it has long been established that gut microbiome varies drastically from
individual to individual due to differences in diet, genetic factors and environment. The organisms
that exist in a gut microbiome within a certain organismplays many roles, such as aiding with food
digestion, gut barrier function and wound recovery. While diet has been believed to play a large
factor in internal microbiome composition, we do not have the evidence to support this fully. Thus
using non human model organisms could help address the question at hand by altering diets and
looking at subsequent microbiomes. In this case, we used black

Essay on Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology
Matthew s Christology is one that emphasises to a Jewish audience the Jewishness of Jesus. It will
be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray
Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition,
namely the Old Testament. Whilst there are numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive
/predominant within the Matthean account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion
that these merely complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as
Messiah and so, as such, will not be investigated except where they promote this conclusion. This

3:17; Isaiah 42:1). Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of
Israel s theological history personified.
Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of
the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53
indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope.
Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30
Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of
his crucifixion.
Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents
Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is
intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according
to some scholars a type of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly
however, Matthew portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well
as the messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15;
5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46).

Dentist Gap Year Essay
The career that I am currently interested in researching about is Dentistry, specifically the career
path to become a general dentist. I am pursuing a bachelor of science in Kinesiology, with a minor
in Biological Sciences. This combination of courses allows me to take the prerequisites required to
apply to dental school. Before beginning the application process, I am required to take the Dental
Admission Test, a timed multiple choice exam conducted by the American Dental Association. I am
currently in my junior year and will take the DAT in August of 2017. Performing well on the
DAT is an important factor in the dental school application process and I plan to explore the
most effective, cost efficient way to study for the test. I also plan to explore the gap year I will
take before beginning dental school, along with the financial aspects of dental school and
owning a general practice. The first part of the research I plan to conduct is what it entails to get a
score that is above average on the DAT. My GPA is below the average and I need to score a 20 21
on the DAT in order increase my chance of acceptance. Although I am familiar with each of the

John Rawls Theory of Societal Justice Essay
Have you ever wondered what would be required in order to create a just society? Let us think
from the perspective of societal ground zero. We have not been in existence for the past few
thousand years. We have no ancestors to direct us, no rules to follow, and no experience to guide
us. Imagine that we have not even come to be yet. Consider for a moment that society has yet to
be established. Assume there are hypothetical homunculi with the sole task of devising the goals,
the guiding light, for society. How would societal goals be designed so they are fair and just for all?
In what follows, I will attempt to portray the philosophy of John Rawls with regard to the theory of
societal justice. My aim is convey Rawls conception of justice. ... Show more content on

504). In other words, every person ought to have an equal system of comprehensive basic political
rights and freedoms in harmony with an equivalent system for all other people.
Rawls believes the homunculi, behind a veil of ignorance, would choose this first principle over a
utilitarian perspective mainly due to the fear of unknown consequences. From a utilitarian
approach, the homunculi know that some would end up with an unfair advantage of basic liberties,
while others would be severely and unjustly disadvantaged. This would occur as a result of the
definition of utilitarianism; to create the highest amount of utility averaged among all people in the
society. Within the greatest average utility, there are certain to be outliers who are severely
disadvantaged. It would seem only reasonable to assume the homunculi would choose the principle
that guarantees equal liberties for all over the utilitarian perspective where some would surely be
disadvantaged. Since they are behind a veil of ignorance, the homunculi would want to assure the
best possible minimum. Ensuring equal basic liberties for all would provide a far better minimum
than the greatest average utility, which would certainly leave some people with unjustly
disadvantaged rights and freedoms.
Rawls second principle states, Social and economic inequalities are to be arranged so that they are

Fairy Tale Conventions
In her collection Kissing the Witch, Emma Donoghue breaks apart and reconstructs the fairy tale by
expertly retelling thirteen classic tales in a manner that subverts both societal conventions and the
conventions of the fairytale genre. In each retelling, Donoghue takes the iconic imagery and basic
premise of a given fairy tale, but twists components of the plot and more richly develops the
character of her heroines often ending with a happily ever after (or not so happily ever after) that
is vastly different from the traditional versions of the tales. In so doing so, she circumvents the
social standards that the established versions of the tale uphold. By definition, fairy tales are stories
in constant flux, but each version of the tale... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As the story of Tale of the Shoe progresses, Cinderella becomes increasingly cognizant of her role
within a constructed fairy tale archetype. Before going to the ball for the 3rd time, she claims
that she didn t have to listen to the barking voices to know how the story went, and later
comments that the scene as the prince is about to propose is all very fairy tale (5 6.) Even
without directly listening to the voices and the societal conventions they represent, these
instances in which the 4th wall is broken reveal that Cinderella feels as though she must adhere
to the conventions of the archetypal Cinderella story. By extension, she feels as though she must
adhere to the expectations that go along with the Cinderella narrative namely love and marriage
to the prince, thereby limiting her personal freedom and capacity for action. Yet Cinderella
begins to feel that these story conventions and expectations are shallow. In the description of the
3rd night s ball, Cinderella remarks that the musicians played the same song over and over while
Cinderella herself danced like a clockwork ballerina (6.) The references of the repeated song and
mechanical nature of the dancing gives the scene a sense of monotony and fakeness,
demonstrating Cinderella s discomfort with the pre written steps of the archetypal Cinderella
narrative. As the prince proposes, Cinderella compares him to an actor on a creating stage, a
simile that further exposes him and the whole narrative situation as inorganic as an actor simply
working through the motions of a pre written script. As he speaks, Cinderella claims that she can
see the future in his words, fearing the long procession of years to come and her pre prescribed
future should she marry him. Thus, even

Sexist Decline to Racism In Jennifer Morgan s article Some Could Suckle over Their Shoulder :
Male Travelers, Female Bodies, and the Gendering of Racial Ideology, she suggests that sexist
beliefs contributed to the justification of racialized slavery. She proves this by providing accounts
of European explorers describing those they encountered, which at first reveal an admiration for
the strength and beauty they (African women) possessed but later began to associate them with
unholy beasts . These Europeans lacked the ability to understand the independence of women in
the matriarchal tribes having been blinded by biases learned by living in a patriarchal society.
Once Native Americans and Africans were demonized for their lifestyles and deemed savage, they
were more easily viewed as livestock rather than human beings. It became easier to enslave an
entire race when they decided they were superior to those of a darker skin tone. A frequent source
in Morgan s article is from Richard Ligon and his depiction of his personal encounters with other
civilizations. Upon first meeting a black woman Ligon stated she was of the greatest beauty and
majesty together: that ever I saw in one woman (12). He found her physically beautiful and seemed

Psychology Assumptions
We all hold assumptions about the world and how it works. These assumptions frame our
understanding of God, ourselves, others, and life and how to be successful in life. These
assumptions affect our understanding and interpretation of facts and of events that occur in our
lives. As Aristotle said, It s not the facts that divide men, but the interpretation of the facts (as
cited in Hummel, 1986, p. 23). Our assumptions are acquired, often unconsciously or uncritically,
by our own experiences and by what we have been taught about life by others. They become a
lens by which we view reality. Entwistle (2010) writes that, the world is seen through the lenses of
our assumptions (p. 134). If the lens is distorted, our view of reality will be distorted.... Show more

The physical sciences have a more objective means of measuring and testing subjects. What is the
temperature of the sun? What is the value of the proton mass? What is the structure of a DNA
molecule? These all have physical proper ties that can be measured and tested. Psychology is more
subjective than the physical sciences and therefore more open to interpretation. Myers (2014)
understands psychology as a science that seeks to answer such questions about us all how and
why we think, feel, and act as we do (p. 1). Questions such as, Who are we? What produces our
thoughts? Our feelings? Our actions? And how are we to understand and manage those around
us? (Myers, 2014, p. 2). Answers to questions like these are profoundly affected by our
presuppositions. For example, if I believe that people are inherently good and not affected by
sin, I m going to answer these questions a certain way. If I believe that people are created in the
image of God, but fallen and being redeemed, I m going to answer them differently. How I
respond to people and circumstances will also be different. So examining and understanding my
own presuppositions as well as those of the theorists I am studying is important if I am going to be
more objective and discover the

Joseph And The Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat Short Story
The story of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is integral to the overall narrative of
the Israelites descent into Egypt. It also tells us that anyone can make his or her dreams come true.
His progression from dream interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt is one of the most elaborate
stories in the Bible, the Book of Genesis. Joseph was born in a family of 12 boys and Joseph was his
father s favorite. Jacob wanted to show everyone how much he loved Joseph and decided to give
him coat of many colors. The coat of colors was a prestige gift in Canaan, because it was very
expensive back then. Joseph had a dream of 11 sheaves of corn that turned and bowed down to a
golden sheaf of corn another dream that was about the sun, moon, and sky with eleven stars
bowing down before a bright golden star. He knew that someday he was meant for more things to
come that are powerful in his life. This was Gods way to show him that he will be great someday
and be a ruler. With the combination of knowing Joseph is Jacob s favorite son and Joseph s
dreams of being one that he may be a ruler of some kind, the 11 brothers become very jealous.
One day, they decided that they wanted to kill him, but before they get the chance, they came
across a couple of Ishmaelite s on their way to Egypt. They decided to sell Joseph as a slave. As
Joseph is taken to Egypt, his brothers return home, told their father that Joseph is dead; they

Introduction/thesis statements:
Global Political Economy is essentially a study of a political battle between the winners and
losers of global economic exchange. In fact, understanding global economy relies on a clear
knowledge of the process of political competition. Political power possessed by actors regulates
economic activity and in turn this creates the basis for and affects political power. Through, critical
analysis of the concept of global political economy it becomes clear that there are three prominent
theories that form GPE, mercantilism, economic liberalism and Marxism.
At this point in time, the main actors in the international system are nation states seeking an agenda
of their own based on personal gain and national interest. Significantly, the most important actor is
the United States, a liberal international economy, appointed its power after the interwar period
becoming the dominant economy and in turn attained the position of hegemonic stability in the
international system. The reason why the United States is dominating is imbedded in their intrinsic
desire to continuously strive for their own national interest both political and economic. Further,
there are other nature of actors that are not just nation states, including non states or transnational,

(About.com, 2011). On a good day, walking into a business to solicit a different product, service,

appointment may be established so that decision maker can have more available time to hear
what is being pitched. More than likely, however, a card or name will be collected with contact

Erikson s Phychosocial Development In The Lion King
As a child, I can remember watching the Lion King movie several times because my family loved
this timeless movie. I always just thought of it as a story about the circle of life that we all hear so
much about in church and from our parents. However, for this assignment I chose to watch this
movie once more; giving particular attention to details and thoroughly examining Simba s life stage
development in relation to Erik Eriksons psychosocial stages and Jean Piaget s cognitive
development stages. Needless to say, I was able to find significant evidence relating to these
developmental theorists. The story not only displays the hardships of maturation, and the
perplexities associated with growing, but it also deals with the search for one s own identity and
responsibility. To exemplify Erickson s psychosocial theory which emphasizes the emergence of
the self, the search for identity, the individual s relationships with others, and the role of culture
throughout life (page), I will begin with the opening of the movie which shows Simba at the
infancy stage where he is developing a trusting behavior from his parents (Mufasa and Sarabi) and
the Hornbill bird, Zazu, who is always reminding everyone to be cautious and careful. His parents
accomplished this by providing him a safe and comfortable living environment and Sarabi made
sure there was someone wiser (Zazu) to go with him when he wanted to start exploring. Mufasa

about not keeping the child. However, the American does not want to keep the child, but still

that their broken relationship can not be saved anymore. Furthermore, the relationship in My

is changing, he says to his taxi driver colleagues I can t understand it! he burst out. Everything is
gone from his room. And I can t talk to him anymore. We were not father and son we were

broken relationship is that both of them have contradicting views, Parvez asks Ali What has

Questions such as why he wants financial coaching? What he would like to accomplish during our
sessions together? What his expectations are nearing the end of our journey together? What are his
expectations of me as his financial coach? Asking these open ended questions helped to get to the
real underlying psychological factors of why Bill s wants to learn how to handle his money. Bill s
feedback gave me the information required to get a better understanding on how to work with Bill
as his financial coach (Massie, 2006).
Explaining the Process
We reviewed my welcome packet that outlined my coaching prices, the financial assessments
that Bill would have to complete, and the expectations required from him and myself for a
successful partnership. To help Bill get a clearer perspective about the financial DNA process,
we reviewed my personal financial DNA reports that showed Bill detailed information reflecting
my own unique human behavior towards making money decisions (Massie, 2006). I explained
that just as everyone has their own unique DNA code, we also have a unique financial DNA code
made up from our environment, values, and education (Massie, 2006, p. 5). I explained how
completing a financial DNA profile would help Bill know his own unique behavioral style and
financial character traits that lead him to making decisions about money

Case Study: Burger King Beefs Up
By Janet Mosha
Burger King is the world s largest chain of flame broiled fast food restaurants. Its core competency
is its flame broiled burgers; whereas other fast food hamburger joints serve fried burgers or no
burgers at all, Burger King offers the unique flame broiled burgers with any options that a customer
might like, consumers have the benefit of having a burger they cannot find elsewhere. Initially
Burger King only sold burgers, fries, shakes, and sodas; but they have chosen to expand to offering
chicken, fish, salads etc. Although they offer these extra items, they have elected to stay true to
their original flame broiled burgers and their chosen strategy is to focus on the whopper as their ...

When people are in a center like environment for example a mall then it is easier to pick
whatever food is there rather than to look elsewhere and return to hang out or shop; therefore
Burger King would have an upper hand if it is one of the foods available.
Burger King is headquartered in Miami, because of its near proximity to Latin America. This
strategic position has allowed Burger King to ensure its presence in the Latin community. The
South Americans who make a pit stop in Miami in order to enter the United States are familiarize
themselves with the Burger King products, and Burger King is also able to test the products on
indigenous Latin community, before expanding to the Latin countries without the fear of
undergoing rejection. This location in Miami has simplified their entry into the Latin countries and
businesses seeking franchises find it easier to work with them. Burger King has strengthened their
global competitive position in the Latin countries, but we find that these countries are not heavily
populated; they should also try to expand to denser populations like those of China, India, Nigeria
etc. this could prove to be more profitable in the long run. Burger King can use the South American

Winston Churchill Legacy
From growing up in an aristocratic family to a military man, Winston Churchill was quite an
iconic figure. Not only was he a military man but also a successful Prime Minister of Britain.
Winston Churchill played a huge roll in World War II as well with his strategic ways and his
actions against Adolf Hitler himself. His background, legacy as a Prime Minister, and his
participation in World War II all show the legacy of Winston Churchill
.
Winston Churchill, whose full name is Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill, was born the 30th of
November in 1874. He was born into an aristocratic family and as a child, Churchill grew up in
Dublin, Ireland. When he first started school, he attended Harrow prep school. In result of him

So, in 1893, Churchill went to military school at Sandhurst. It took Churchill three attempts to
get into Sandhurst, however. He was lucky to score just enough to be accepted into Cavalry, but
it was not enough to be accepted into Infantry. Then two years later in February of 1895, he
passed out of Sandhurst. While he was attending he applied himself and graduated 20th in his
class out of 130. This led him to his military career. The same year he graduated, was the same
year of his father s tragic death. Churchill then entered the 4th Hussars, which was a cavalry
regiment in the British Army. Churchill traveled many places within his time in the military.
While he was in Cuba, he mainly reported the Cuban War and the Spanish Army for the Daily
Graphic in London. Also, while in the military, Churchill worked as a journalist. He was paid to
send his stories to the press. His first book, The Story of the Malakand Field Force, Churchill
mainly talked about his experiences. While he was on the North West Frontier in India in 1896,
Churchill began his novel Savrola: A Tale of the Revolution in Laurania. This novel was officially
published in 1900. Churchill was also a journalist for the Morning Post. While the Boer War was

Blade Runner Human Quotes
What makes something or someone human can often be unclear. Humans have many preconceived
notions about who and what they are and what their rightful place in society is. These notions,
however, are frequently at odds with reality. The uncertainty of what makes someone human is
explored in Ridley Scott s classic sciencefiction film Blade Runner. Dr. Eldon Tyrell s Tyrell
Corporation created the replicants to be sub humanservants that were clearly distinct from and
inferior to human beings; the replicants were intentionally designed to be unable to express
emotions, particularly empathy, which is believed to be a trait that only human beings can possess.
Human beings believe that the quintessential thing that makes them human and distinguishes...

Once Deckard becomes a blade runner again, he shows no respect for the replicants, brutally
murdering every one he can find. Deckard does not display human feelings; in fact, he appears
to be the epitome of inhumanity. Deckard does not demonstrate any feelings at all, particularly
empathy. When examined closely, this is Scott s way of suggesting the possibility that Deckard
may, in fact, be a replicant as his actions and character development closely resemble that of a
replicant. It is possible that Deckard could be murdering his own people , and he might not even
know it. Over time, Deckard eventually begins to demonstrate feelings towards others,
especially Rachel. His feelings for Rachel are evident when he asks her, Do you love me...and
do you trust me (Scott). After Rachel replies that she does, Deckard demonstrates his love for
Rachel by giving her an emotional kiss on the lips. As Deckard falls in love with Rachel, a moral
issue emerges. That is, he still continues to hunt someone whom he loves. Morality and ethics
have been completely disregarded. As time goes by, though, Deckard appears to become more
sophisticated and develops a sense of morality. He chooses not to kill Rachel, and instead runs
away with her (Scott). Deckard s actions coincide with the actions of the replicants. When the
replicants were first created, they did not display emotions, but over time, the replicants became
more complex and began to develop human like qualities. Similarly, Deckard has done the same
thing in his lifetime and it leads back to the possibility of him being a replicant. The boundary
between humans and the replicants is rapidly becoming unclear. This creates a feeling of
uncertainty, which is frightening as it leads to the thought that humans cannot be sure about what
makes them human and consequently they cannot be sure if they are in fact human. This threatens
the perception that the real

How Did The Baroque Period Influence Today s Society
The Baroque period is the timeframe at which we can closely identify with todays society. It was
a period of great discoveries and taking huge steps as mankind to get us where we are today.
While discussing where we are in todays society, one would have to bring up the people that laid
the foundation of modern music, art, and science. From the songs we sing, art we interact with,
and the science we use in discovery, they all trace back to one of the most important time frames
in history. There is not a single piece of music, art, or science that you could not relate to this time

new ways when showing what the sound of love, fear, and excitement were like. One of the
most influential creators of these symphonies was Ludwig van Beethoven. Beethoven was a

Many people would attend his concerts to hear his music, however, many would leave early due
to the fact that it was too loud. Following Beethoven was a conductor named Richard Wagner.
Wagner wrote many of his classical pieces to follow along with poems that would be sung along
with the music. These pieces later would be called operas that showed off high notes. The
performers were encouraged to sing at high and low pitches to show off their wide oval range.

The Pleistocene Ice Ages
Throughout the Pleistocene ice ages, large areas of the earth were covered by vast ice sheets.
Global sea levels dropped up to 120 metres below present day coastlines, exposing large areas of
land that were once flooded by shallow seas. These lands became colonised by vegetation,
animals, birds and insects over time. During the Ice Age, the island continent to the south east of
Asia comprised New Guinea, Australia and Tasmania as a single land mass. Separating this
continent from Asia was a narrow sea about one hundred kilometres wide, over which the first
ocean crossings were made sometime before 60,000 years ago. These ancient mariners became the

Triangulation Theory Of Love Essay
Love works at different stages of life, whether it is romantic love or long term love. This can be the
difference between two people who experience ultimate happiness together and or the contentment
of settling. Sternberg s triangulation theory of love helps to explain the different stages of love
through three elements which include; intimacy, passion and commitment (Donges,2017)
Romantic loveis a mixture of intimacy and passion. Intimacy is an imitate act or sexual activity
with another person of whom you have strong feelings for. Whereas, passion is strong and
uncontrollable emotions. One might say that the chemistry or passion between themselves and
another is uncontrollable. Intimacy is something that we have control over where... Show more

Many peoples parents may remained married, but they may not see their parents ever kissing,
holding hands, or showing affection after a certain time period in the marriage. At different stages of
life, love can affect your life. Right now as a college student I am in a romantic love
relationship. There is passion and intimacy in my relationship but there is not a long term
commitment. As of right now, I am okay with no long term commitment because I am not sure
where I see my future going. If this relationship were to last 5 10 more years than I would want a
stronger commitment than just being boyfriend and girlfriend. I would want a long term
commitment such as marriage. I would hope that at that point in my relationship there is still
intimacy, passion and commitment to one another. The process of finding a significant other
has most definitely changed compared to a generation ago. How we used to love was as simple
as having an interest in someone, taking the chance to get to know them, had common feelings,
dating, and hopefully getting engaged and married. How we love now is a whole confusing,
long process mess. Now we have commitment issues, and are just talking before we are labeled
as only seeing one and other and are together before we are exclusive and are then months later
officially dating . Being introduced to the family isn t nearly as big of a step as it was back then.

According to many different philosophers such as Descartes and Locke there has to be more to
the mind than just the materialistic view. There are many different parts to the brain which make
it a whole according to science, so thinking about the brain from a philosophical standpoint, there
must be different parts to make up the minds identity. According to John Perry, the memories and
personality traits as well as beliefs and intellectual skills make up a personal identity and the body
is just a vessel that holds this identity (TP, 197). Certain people might believe that if one were to

physiological change (TP, 194). Given this perspective Tommy would have to remain with
Vladek because he is technically still legally and genetically his son. The legality of this
situation would be especially complicated because there is hypothetically two boys in one.
Although I have to disagree with the legal side because if the boy were to wake up as Sam it
would be traumatizing for him to not only look like another boy but be torn from his previous

Dream Deferred Langston Hughes
Dream Deferred, more commonly known as, Harlem, was written by African American poet
Langston Hughes in 1951. Hughes used familiar themes and subjects in contrast to his fellow poets
that used obscure lines that focused only on a small audience. These themes mainly consist of the
Harlem Renaissance and the creation of jazz poetry; both of which were linked to the inequality
that was happening in America. He wrote this poem to show the inability of African Americans to
achieve the American Dream. This influenced Langston Hughesto use similes and alliteration to
illustrate the thought process that one may experience when their dreams are not fullfilled. It
shows the various effects that a postponed dream may make happen. To further examine the poem,
connections will be drawn, figurative language will be analysed, and close reading will be applied.

My Love Of Travel
For any person that went on vacations as a little kid, there will always be one that sticks out in
their mind. For me that vacation was a 2008 Disney cruise in the Bahamas. As a second grader
getting to miss school was a big deal. This vacation just happened to be during the last week of
school that year. I was incredibly excited to not only miss school but also get to go see a new place.
In my family we love to travel. I ve been in 3 countries and 14 or more states. This vacation was my
start to all of these places and sparked my love to see the world. One of the reasons this vacation
influenced my love of travel was that this was the first time I had been on a big plane. I love to
fly places. Flying is a lot faster than driving places and with two brothers that makes a huge
difference.
On this vacation I visited one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, one of the British Virgin Islands, and
Disney s private island, Castaway Cay. Every day of the trip we were either at port on one of these
islands or spending our day on the boat on the way to one of these islands. When we were at port
on any of the islands we were given a time to be back then we were set free to get off of the boat
and explore the island at our own pace. We took a bus tour on one of the islands but on the others
we got out and visited some of the little shops or went to the beach for a day in the sand.
One of the memories that sticks out most to me was when my grandpa and I were standing in the
water at Magens

Comparison Of Robespierre And The French Revolution
In a time when France was fighting for natural rights and a separation from totalitarian rulers,
Maximilien Robespierre and the Committee for Public Safety believed the best way to advance
their goal was to temporarily enact the exact opposite of everything they were trying to achieve to
allow the country to recover from inner conflict. During a point when France was in a crisis
transitioning from monarchy, the Committee for Public Safety, led by Robespierre, took control of
the executive government. The period of Robespierre s rule has been given the nickname the Reign
of Terrorfrom rampant oppression, tyranny, and death in France throughout the period. The actions
of the government during the Terror opposed almost everything that the... Show more content on

One of the most prominent details of the Terror is the fact that thousands of people were sent to the
guillotine during this time period. Many of these unfortunate souls had done nothing wrong outside
of voicing their opinions. However, if Robespierre and the French government got word of this
person s actions and deemed their thoughts even just a little too radical or counter revolutionary,
they were executed. One of the most critical tenets of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution
was the freedom to voice one s opinion and not be punished or silenced by authority. This idea is
echoed in the tenth and eleventh articles of the Declaration of the Rights of Man, which state
that freedom of speech, the press, religion, etc. and the freedom to express one s opinions openly
are among the most important natural rights of men, and that those using this right should not
be silenced so long as their views aren t disrupting the order of society. However, while
Robespierre doesn t address these actions directly in his Report on the Principles of Political
Morality, he portrays the government s harsh actions on anyone who would hinder or abandon
the revolutionary cause as justice. While Robespierre may have been looking at his actions
through rose tinted glasses, the massacre of thousands of people for simply sharing their beliefs
clearly went against key principles of the Declaration of the Rights of Man, the Enlightenment,
and the French Revolution. The arrest of suspected individuals and execution of those voicing
their opinions are clear violations of man s natural rights, but even the nature of Robespierre s rule
alone could be seen as a breach of the National Assembly s view on man and society just years

The Reunion Character Analysis
When I read The Reunion, immediately I was introduced to the character of Hans Schwarz. He
was introduced as being bored, as he was, Half asleep, doodling and daydreaming. (2) I saw him
as being a typical bored boy that you would see in any classroom in America. When Konradin
entered the picture, I immediately saw a difference in Hanz. He was suddenly very attentive and
alert, noticing things that other boys may not have been paying attention to. Hans noticed how
Konradin organized his pencils, and how elegant and polite he was (2). When Hans decides that he
wants to become friendswith Konradin, you see him suddenly become very determined and
motivated. He is now participating in class, and doing so well that people who had thought nothing
of him before, took a new interest. The results startled my teachers. They turned to me with a new
hope and a touching joy. (3) That new motivationhas changed not only how the characters in the
story saw him, but how I saw him as well. I saw that he had a strength of character and
determination that was different from other kids. There was no whining about how long it was
taking to become friends, only Hans trying harder and harder to impress Konradin. During one of
his classes, a teacher calls for volunteers to do a seemingly difficult gymnastics routine, Hans is the
only one who volunteered, simply to make himself stand out to Konradin (3). To me, that shows a
real motivation, because, it takes courage to do something hard in front

The Impact of Rana Catesbeiana in Arizona
The Impact of Rana Catesbeiana in Arizona Invasive species are organisms that are accidentally or
intentionally introduced into an environment, that adapts quickly and disrupts the natural

are some of the most damaging invasive species. Many cultures around the world eat frogas a
delicacy, so bullfrogs were gathered up and sold around the world. However, some of the
species were introduced into countries around the world. Currently, they have become
established in over fifteen countries as invasive species (Save The Frogs! et al. 2013). Many
sources say that the initial spread of this invasive species began at the end of the 1800 s when
bullfrogs were shipped to California to fill hungry loggers appetite for frog legs. The frogs
competed with the other native species with the supply of natural resources while also consuming
and exploiting the native amphibian species as well. Worldwide Ranacatesbeiana has driven over
one hundred native species of frogs to extinction (Save The Frogs! et al. 2013). This is a huge
impact on amphibian wildlife worldwide because there are about 4,800 species of frogs. Over the
past hundred years the bullfroghas wiped out over 2% of the world s species of frogs. Studies have
shown one of the reasons bullfrogs will cripple Arizonian ecosystems and the native amphibian

Shakespeare s King Lear Appearances
In Shakespeare s King Lear appearances are not always reflective of reality. While in many scenes
throughout the play characters are disguised, their identities concealed behind a physical shroud,
the theme of appearances versus reality runs much deeper, making the lines between love and hate,
foolishness and wisdom, and cruelty and innocence ambiguous to both the characters and the
audience. As the play progresses, a veil of ignorance seems lift, elucidating the truth of each matter
to the characters and to the audience. As the curtain rises, appearances immediately rush in to cloud
the truth. In the very first scene of the play King Learannounces he will divide his Kingdom
amongst his daughters, awarding portions of the land based upon their professions of love unto
him. First to speak is the eldest, Goneril, and what she says seems to Lear an honest statement of
adoration:
Sir, I love you more than word can wield the matter,
Dearer than eyesight, space, and liberty,
Beyond what can be valued, rich or rare,
No less than life, with grace, health, beauty, honor;
As much as child e er loved, or father found;
A love that makes breath poor, and speech unable.
Beyond all manner of so much I love you.

audience later discovers, are masked by a veil of greed. In her protestation, Goneril says that her
feelings of love are Beyond what can be valued, however, the true

Does a name change affect a company? It would really depend on the company. Does being in a
different count affect a company? It affects the company in more than one way. The company
would not sale the same things, but they would be very similar. The company would be able to sell

  • 2. Alfonso Cuaron s Use Of Symbolism In Children Of Men Cinematic techniques play an essential part in a film s quest to create a particular effect or to uncover a particular theme. The dystopian movie, Children of Men, directed by Alfonso Cuaron, incorporates numerous symbols to convey a much broader meaning to its theme driven story line. The symbols in the film play a significant role helping explain the two main underlying themes in the film, which are hope and the coming of age. Without the use of the many symbols, it would be difficult to understand the main themes the film is trying to explore. In this paper I argue how the use of symbols bring a deeper meaning to the story by unveiling some important traits in the characters. I also argue how symbolusage uncovers the themes of hope and the coming of age that the film is exploring. The first symbol that Cuaron explores is one of a biblical reference. The main character in the film, Theo, portrays many similarities to Jesus. One may not initially see this, but after close analysis, it becomes very clear that spirituality is embedded in the storyline. During the majority of the film, Theo is encompassed by weapons but remains peaceful and never resorts to violence while protecting Kee throughout his journey. Also, animals surround Theo, which are a symbol that is supposed to illustrate Theo s righteousness and integrity. This is shown in contrast to the humans living in cages, illustrating the significant themeof hope that Theo represents. Arguably the most powerful ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Ambition Vs Vanity Philippians 2:3 4 says Instead of being motivated by selfish ambition or vanity, each of you should, in humility, be moved to treat one another as more important than yourself. Each of you should be concerned not only about your own interests, but about the interests of others as well. God has told us to focus on the humility of others and not our own. These days people are devoting their lives to unholy things and events, instead of pouring their soul into something pure and good for mankind. If we live life egotistical and greedy, people will separate instead of coming together as one. As someone gets stronger it is hard to stray away from egoism. In our world today, we do not admire fear or selfishness in our leaders. Therefore, we do not reflect those bad traits like the followers of the prince most likely did. Yet, we still have wrong in the world. Egoism can be spread by many things. The long for superiority can feed your ego and alter your humility. Arrogance is a way to cover our imperfections. Yet, it enhances our vulnerability to sin and incivility. Being boastful can construct the question; Are you doing it for greed or for the righteousness of it? How can we learn from Machiavelli s egoism and prevent the spread of it today? We need to erase selfish ways and act in benevolence. We can always show love and respect to anyone or anything, it s the matter of choice. Looking at gut microbiomes in particular, it has long been established that gut microbiome varies drastically from individual to individual due to differences in diet, genetic factors and environment. The organisms that exist in a gut microbiome within a certain organismplays many roles, such as aiding with food digestion, gut barrier function and wound recovery. While diet has been believed to play a large factor in internal microbiome composition, we do not have the evidence to support this fully. Thus using non human model organisms could help address the question at hand by altering diets and looking at subsequent microbiomes. In this case, we used black ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. Essay on Matthew s Christology Matthew s Christology Matthew s Christology is one that emphasises to a Jewish audience the Jewishness of Jesus. It will be the purpose of this paper to argue that the raison d etre of Matthew s Christology is to portray Jesus as entirely compatible if not with the Judaism of his day then with ancient Judaic tradition, namely the Old Testament. Whilst there are numerous titles given to Jesus that are exclusive /predominant within the Matthean account, such as that of Son of God, it is the writer s assertion that these merely complement Matthew s central theses; this being the portrayal of Jesus as Messiah and so, as such, will not be investigated except where they promote this conclusion. Consequently, we see in Matthew s depiction of Jesus a fundamental tenet of Israel s theological history personified. Jesus is, as the Messianic Servant, shown to be the fulfilment of further Isaianic prophecy, that of the suffering Servant. Throughout Matthew s gospel there are six direct allusions to Isaiah 53 indicating a definite link and identification by Matthew with this Israelite and Messianic hope. Further, Farmer suggests that direct allusions notwithstanding in 20:20 28 and especially 26:26 30 Isaiah 53 s redemptive hope is supposed to be fulfilled through Jesus description of the outcome of his crucifixion. Isaianic prophecy aside it is also clear that Matthew above the other three evangelists presents Jesus as the fulfilment of the law, a new Moses. The structure of the book into five sections is intended to help the Jewish readers identify Jesus as an antecedent of Moses. Jesus is according to some scholars a type of Moses bringing about a new exodus and a new Israel. More explicitly however, Matthew portrays Jesus as the only man to have fulfilled the law in its entirety as well as the messianic fulfilment of Old Testament prophecy through the many formula quotations (3:15; 5:17 48;12:17 21; 13:35; 21:5, 16, 42; 22:44; 23:39; 26:31; 27:9, 35, 46). I am pursuing a bachelor of science in Kinesiology, with a minor in Biological Sciences. This combination of courses allows me to take the prerequisites required to apply to dental school. Before beginning the application process, I am required to take the Dental Admission Test, a timed multiple choice exam conducted by the American Dental Association. I am currently in my junior year and will take the DAT in August of 2017. Performing well on the DAT is an important factor in the dental school application process and I plan to explore the most effective, cost efficient way to study for the test. I also plan to explore the gap year I will take before beginning dental school, along with the financial aspects of dental school and owning a general practice. The first part of the research I plan to conduct is what it entails to get a score that is above average on the DAT. We have not been in existence for the past few thousand years. We have no ancestors to direct us, no rules to follow, and no experience to guide us. Imagine that we have not even come to be yet. Consider for a moment that society has yet to be established. Assume there are hypothetical homunculi with the sole task of devising the goals, the guiding light, for society. How would societal goals be designed so they are fair and just for all? In what follows, I will attempt to portray the philosophy of John Rawls with regard to the theory of societal justice. In other words, every person ought to have an equal system of comprehensive basic political rights and freedoms in harmony with an equivalent system for all other people. Rawls believes the homunculi, behind a veil of ignorance, would choose this first principle over a utilitarian perspective mainly due to the fear of unknown consequences. From a utilitarian approach, the homunculi know that some would end up with an unfair advantage of basic liberties, while others would be severely and unjustly disadvantaged. This would occur as a result of the definition of utilitarianism; to create the highest amount of utility averaged among all people in the society. Within the greatest average utility, there are certain to be outliers who are severely disadvantaged. It would seem only reasonable to assume the homunculi would choose the principle that guarantees equal liberties for all over the utilitarian perspective where some would surely be disadvantaged. Since they are behind a veil of ignorance, the homunculi would want to assure the best possible minimum. Ensuring equal basic liberties for all would provide a far better minimum than the greatest average utility, which would certainly leave some people with unjustly disadvantaged rights and freedoms. • 8. Fairy Tale Conventions In her collection Kissing the Witch, Emma Donoghue breaks apart and reconstructs the fairy tale by expertly retelling thirteen classic tales in a manner that subverts both societal conventions and the conventions of the fairytale genre. In each retelling, Donoghue takes the iconic imagery and basic premise of a given fairy tale, but twists components of the plot and more richly develops the character of her heroines often ending with a happily ever after (or not so happily ever after) that is vastly different from the traditional versions of the tales. In so doing so, she circumvents the social standards that the established versions of the tale uphold. By definition, fairy tales are stories in constant flux, but each version of the tale... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... As the story of Tale of the Shoe progresses, Cinderella becomes increasingly cognizant of her role within a constructed fairy tale archetype. Before going to the ball for the 3rd time, she claims that she didn t have to listen to the barking voices to know how the story went, and later comments that the scene as the prince is about to propose is all very fairy tale (5 6.) Even without directly listening to the voices and the societal conventions they represent, these instances in which the 4th wall is broken reveal that Cinderella feels as though she must adhere to the conventions of the archetypal Cinderella story. By extension, she feels as though she must adhere to the expectations that go along with the Cinderella narrative namely love and marriage to the prince, thereby limiting her personal freedom and capacity for action. Yet Cinderella begins to feel that these story conventions and expectations are shallow. In the description of the 3rd night s ball, Cinderella remarks that the musicians played the same song over and over while Cinderella herself danced like a clockwork ballerina (6.) The references of the repeated song and mechanical nature of the dancing gives the scene a sense of monotony and fakeness, demonstrating Cinderella s discomfort with the pre written steps of the archetypal Cinderella narrative. As the prince proposes, Cinderella compares him to an actor on a creating stage, a simile that further exposes him and the whole narrative situation as inorganic as an actor simply working through the motions of a pre written script. As he speaks, Cinderella claims that she can see the future in his words, fearing the long procession of years to come and her pre prescribed future should she marry him. Thus, even ... Stephanie Malena Hist B17a TR 1:00 2:35pm September 26, 2017 Sexist Decline to Racism In Jennifer Morgan s article Some Could Suckle over Their Shoulder : Male Travelers, Female Bodies, and the Gendering of Racial Ideology, she suggests that sexist beliefs contributed to the justification of racialized slavery. She proves this by providing accounts of European explorers describing those they encountered, which at first reveal an admiration for the strength and beauty they (African women) possessed but later began to associate them with unholy beasts . These Europeans lacked the ability to understand the independence of women in the matriarchal tribes having been blinded by biases learned by living in a patriarchal society. Once Native Americans and Africans were demonized for their lifestyles and deemed savage, they were more easily viewed as livestock rather than human beings. It became easier to enslave an entire race when they decided they were superior to those of a darker skin tone. A frequent source in Morgan s article is from Richard Ligon and his depiction of his personal encounters with other civilizations. Upon first meeting a black woman Ligon stated she was of the greatest beauty and majesty together: that ever I saw in one woman (12). He found her physically beautiful and seemed to find her ... • 11. Psychology Assumptions We all hold assumptions about the world and how it works. These assumptions frame our understanding of God, ourselves, others, and life and how to be successful in life. These assumptions affect our understanding and interpretation of facts and of events that occur in our lives. As Aristotle said, It s not the facts that divide men, but the interpretation of the facts (as cited in Hummel, 1986, p. 23). Our assumptions are acquired, often unconsciously or uncritically, by our own experiences and by what we have been taught about life by others. They become a lens by which we view reality. Entwistle (2010) writes that, the world is seen through the lenses of our assumptions (p. 134). If the lens is distorted, our view of reality will be distorted.... What is the structure of a DNA molecule? These all have physical proper ties that can be measured and tested. Psychology is more subjective than the physical sciences and therefore more open to interpretation. Myers (2014) understands psychology as a science that seeks to answer such questions about us all how and why we think, feel, and act as we do (p. 1). Questions such as, Who are we? What produces our thoughts? Our feelings? Our actions? And how are we to understand and manage those around us? (Myers, 2014, p. 2). Answers to questions like these are profoundly affected by our presuppositions. For example, if I believe that people are inherently good and not affected by sin, I m going to answer these questions a certain way. If I believe that people are created in the image of God, but fallen and being redeemed, I m going to answer them differently. How I respond to people and circumstances will also be different. So examining and understanding my own presuppositions as well as those of the theorists I am studying is important if I am going to be more objective and discover the ... It also tells us that anyone can make his or her dreams come true. His progression from dream interpreting shepherd to minister of Egypt is one of the most elaborate stories in the Bible, the Book of Genesis. Joseph was born in a family of 12 boys and Joseph was his father s favorite. Jacob wanted to show everyone how much he loved Joseph and decided to give him coat of many colors. The coat of colors was a prestige gift in Canaan, because it was very expensive back then. Joseph had a dream of 11 sheaves of corn that turned and bowed down to a golden sheaf of corn another dream that was about the sun, moon, and sky with eleven stars bowing down before a bright golden star. He knew that someday he was meant for more things to come that are powerful in his life. This was Gods way to show him that he will be great someday and be a ruler. With the combination of knowing Joseph is Jacob s favorite son and Joseph s dreams of being one that he may be a ruler of some kind, the 11 brothers become very jealous. One day, they decided that they wanted to kill him, but before they get the chance, they came across a couple of Ishmaelite s on their way to Egypt. They decided to sell Joseph as a slave. In fact, understanding global economy relies on a clear knowledge of the process of political competition. Political power possessed by actors regulates economic activity and in turn this creates the basis for and affects political power. Through, critical analysis of the concept of global political economy it becomes clear that there are three prominent theories that form GPE, mercantilism, economic liberalism and Marxism. At this point in time, the main actors in the international system are nation states seeking an agenda of their own based on personal gain and national interest. Significantly, the most important actor is the United States, a liberal international economy, appointed its power after the interwar period becoming the dominant economy and in turn attained the position of hegemonic stability in the international system. The reason why the United States is dominating is imbedded in their intrinsic desire to continuously strive for their own national interest both political and economic. However, for this assignment I chose to watch this movie once more; giving particular attention to details and thoroughly examining Simba s life stage development in relation to Erik Eriksons psychosocial stages and Jean Piaget s cognitive development stages. Needless to say, I was able to find significant evidence relating to these developmental theorists. The story not only displays the hardships of maturation, and the perplexities associated with growing, but it also deals with the search for one s own identity and responsibility. To exemplify Erickson s psychosocial theory which emphasizes the emergence of the self, the search for identity, the individual s relationships with others, and the role of culture throughout life (page), I will begin with the opening of the movie which shows Simba at the infancy stage where he is developing a trusting behavior from his parents (Mufasa and Sarabi) and the Hornbill bird, Zazu, who is always reminding everyone to be cautious and careful. Humans have many preconceived notions about who and what they are and what their rightful place in society is. These notions, however, are frequently at odds with reality. The uncertainty of what makes someone human is explored in Ridley Scott s classic sciencefiction film Blade Runner. Dr. Eldon Tyrell s Tyrell Corporation created the replicants to be sub humanservants that were clearly distinct from and inferior to human beings; the replicants were intentionally designed to be unable to express emotions, particularly empathy, which is believed to be a trait that only human beings can possess. Deckard does not display human feelings; in fact, he appears to be the epitome of inhumanity. Deckard does not demonstrate any feelings at all, particularly empathy. When examined closely, this is Scott s way of suggesting the possibility that Deckard may, in fact, be a replicant as his actions and character development closely resemble that of a replicant. It is possible that Deckard could be murdering his own people , and he might not even know it. Over time, Deckard eventually begins to demonstrate feelings towards others, especially Rachel. His feelings for Rachel are evident when he asks her, Do you love me...and do you trust me (Scott). After Rachel replies that she does, Deckard demonstrates his love for Rachel by giving her an emotional kiss on the lips. As Deckard falls in love with Rachel, a moral issue emerges. That is, he still continues to hunt someone whom he loves. Morality and ethics have been completely disregarded. As time goes by, though, Deckard appears to become more sophisticated and develops a sense of morality. He chooses not to kill Rachel, and instead runs away with her (Scott). Deckard s actions coincide with the actions of the replicants. When the replicants were first created, they did not display emotions, but over time, the replicants became more complex and began to develop human like qualities. Similarly, Deckard has done the same thing in his lifetime and it leads back to the possibility of him being a replicant. The boundary between humans and the replicants is rapidly becoming unclear. This creates a feeling of uncertainty, which is frightening as it leads to the thought that humans cannot be sure about what makes them human and consequently they cannot be sure if they are in fact human. • 31. Tommy Vladek According to many different philosophers such as Descartes and Locke there has to be more to the mind than just the materialistic view. There are many different parts to the brain which make it a whole according to science, so thinking about the brain from a philosophical standpoint, there must be different parts to make up the minds identity. According to John Perry, the memories and personality traits as well as beliefs and intellectual skills make up a personal identity and the body is just a vessel that holds this identity (TP, 197). Certain people might believe that if one were to get a brain transplant they would wake up the same person they were before they went in for the surgery. I, on the other hand concur with Perry and the idea... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... From a legal standpoint, Tommy would still be Vladek s son based on physical attributes and his genetics. It could be argued that he is still Tommy just with a change of parts; it would be like he was getting a new kidney or a heart with the only downfall being that he developed a physiological change (TP, 194). Given this perspective Tommy would have to remain with Vladek because he is technically still legally and genetically his son. The legality of this situation would be especially complicated because there is hypothetically two boys in one. Although I have to disagree with the legal side because if the boy were to wake up as Sam it would be traumatizing for him to not only look like another boy but be torn from his previous home and be forced to live with a stranger. Do you think that the parents made the right decision not only legally but ethically as ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 32. Dream Deferred Langston Hughes Dream Deferred, more commonly known as, Harlem, was written by African American poet Langston Hughes in 1951. Hughes used familiar themes and subjects in contrast to his fellow poets that used obscure lines that focused only on a small audience. These themes mainly consist of the Harlem Renaissance and the creation of jazz poetry; both of which were linked to the inequality that was happening in America. He wrote this poem to show the inability of African Americans to achieve the American Dream. This influenced Langston Hughesto use similes and alliteration to illustrate the thought process that one may experience when their dreams are not fullfilled. It shows the various effects that a postponed dream may make happen. To further examine the poem, connections will be drawn, figurative language will be analysed, and close reading will be applied. This means that the aspiration of one person cannot succeed without effort exerted. Based on an essay entitled Deflation and Aggravation in Langston Hughes s Harlem, the author suggests that the poem is about crushing the hopes and dreams thus creating a feeling of defeat in the human being (Grzenia 1). • 33. My Love Of Travel For any person that went on vacations as a little kid, there will always be one that sticks out in their mind. For me that vacation was a 2008 Disney cruise in the Bahamas. As a second grader getting to miss school was a big deal. This vacation just happened to be during the last week of school that year. I was incredibly excited to not only miss school but also get to go see a new place. In my family we love to travel. I ve been in 3 countries and 14 or more states. This vacation was my start to all of these places and sparked my love to see the world. One of the reasons this vacation influenced my love of travel was that this was the first time I had been on a big plane. I love to fly places. Flying is a lot faster than driving places and with two brothers that makes a huge difference. On this vacation I visited one of the U.S. Virgin Islands, one of the British Virgin Islands, and Disney s private island, Castaway Cay. Every day of the trip we were either at port on one of these islands or spending our day on the boat on the way to one of these islands. When we were at port on any of the islands we were given a time to be back then we were set free to get off of the boat and explore the island at our own pace. We took a bus tour on one of the islands but on the others we got out and visited some of the little shops or went to the beach for a day in the sand. One of the memories that sticks out most to me was when my grandpa and I were standing in the water at Magens ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 34. Comparison Of Robespierre And The French Revolution In a time when France was fighting for natural rights and a separation from totalitarian rulers, Maximilien Robespierre and the Committee for Public Safety believed the best way to advance their goal was to temporarily enact the exact opposite of everything they were trying to achieve to allow the country to recover from inner conflict. During a point when France was in a crisis transitioning from monarchy, the Committee for Public Safety, led by Robespierre, took control of the executive government. The period of Robespierre s rule has been given the nickname the Reign of Terrorfrom rampant oppression, tyranny, and death in France throughout the period. The actions of the government during the Terror opposed almost everything that the... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... One of the most prominent details of the Terror is the fact that thousands of people were sent to the guillotine during this time period. Many of these unfortunate souls had done nothing wrong outside of voicing their opinions. However, if Robespierre and the French government got word of this person s actions and deemed their thoughts even just a little too radical or counter revolutionary, they were executed. One of the most critical tenets of the Enlightenment and the French Revolution was the freedom to voice one s opinion and not be punished or silenced by authority. This idea is echoed in the tenth and eleventh articles of the Declaration of the Rights of Man, which state that freedom of speech, the press, religion, etc. and the freedom to express one s opinions openly are among the most important natural rights of men, and that those using this right should not be silenced so long as their views aren t disrupting the order of society. However, while Robespierre doesn t address these actions directly in his Report on the Principles of Political Morality, he portrays the government s harsh actions on anyone who would hinder or abandon the revolutionary cause as justice. While Robespierre may have been looking at his actions through rose tinted glasses, the massacre of thousands of people for simply sharing their beliefs clearly went against key principles of the Declaration of the Rights of Man, the Enlightenment, and the French Revolution. The arrest of suspected individuals and execution of those voicing their opinions are clear violations of man s natural rights, but even the nature of Robespierre s rule alone could be seen as a breach of the National Assembly s view on man and society just years ... • 35. The Reunion Character Analysis When I read The Reunion, immediately I was introduced to the character of Hans Schwarz. He was introduced as being bored, as he was, Half asleep, doodling and daydreaming. (2) I saw him as being a typical bored boy that you would see in any classroom in America. When Konradin entered the picture, I immediately saw a difference in Hanz. He was suddenly very attentive and alert, noticing things that other boys may not have been paying attention to. Hans noticed how Konradin organized his pencils, and how elegant and polite he was (2). When Hans decides that he wants to become friendswith Konradin, you see him suddenly become very determined and motivated. He is now participating in class, and doing so well that people who had thought nothing of him before, took a new interest. The results startled my teachers. They turned to me with a new hope and a touching joy. (3) That new motivationhas changed not only how the characters in the story saw him, but how I saw him as well. I saw that he had a strength of character and determination that was different from other kids. There was no whining about how long it was taking to become friends, only Hans trying harder and harder to impress Konradin. During one of his classes, a teacher calls for volunteers to do a seemingly difficult gymnastics routine, Hans is the only one who volunteered, simply to make himself stand out to Konradin (3). To me, that shows a real motivation, because, it takes courage to do something hard in front ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Impact of Rana Catesbeiana in Arizona The Impact of Rana Catesbeiana in Arizona Invasive species are organisms that are accidentally or intentionally introduced into an environment, that adapts quickly and disrupts the natural ecosystem. Bullfrogs (Rana catesbeiana) are native to the northeastern part of North America and are some of the most damaging invasive species. Many cultures around the world eat frogas a delicacy, so bullfrogs were gathered up and sold around the world. However, some of the species were introduced into countries around the world. Currently, they have become established in over fifteen countries as invasive species (Save The Frogs! et al. 2013). Many sources say that the initial spread of this invasive species began at the end of the 1800 s when bullfrogs were shipped to California to fill hungry loggers appetite for frog legs. The frogs competed with the other native species with the supply of natural resources while also consuming and exploiting the native amphibian species as well. Worldwide Ranacatesbeiana has driven over one hundred native species of frogs to extinction (Save The Frogs! et al. 2013). This is a huge impact on amphibian wildlife worldwide because there are about 4,800 species of frogs. Over the past hundred years the bullfroghas wiped out over 2% of the world s species of frogs. Studies have shown one of the reasons bullfrogs will cripple Arizonian ecosystems and the native amphibian species directly is because a female bullfrog s physiology ... • 37. Shakespeare s King Lear Appearances In Shakespeare s King Lear appearances are not always reflective of reality. While in many scenes throughout the play characters are disguised, their identities concealed behind a physical shroud, the theme of appearances versus reality runs much deeper, making the lines between love and hate, foolishness and wisdom, and cruelty and innocence ambiguous to both the characters and the audience. As the play progresses, a veil of ignorance seems lift, elucidating the truth of each matter to the characters and to the audience. As the curtain rises, appearances immediately rush in to cloud the truth. In the very first scene of the play King Learannounces he will divide his Kingdom amongst his daughters, awarding portions of the land based upon their professions of love unto him. First to speak is the eldest, Goneril, and what she says seems to Lear an honest statement of adoration: Sir, I love you more than word can wield the matter, Dearer than eyesight, space, and liberty, Beyond what can be valued, rich or rare, No less than life, with grace, health, beauty, honor; As much as child e er loved, or father found; A love that makes breath poor, and speech unable. Beyond all manner of so much I love you. (1:1 60 67) While by all appearances her words do portray an image of strong filial affection, her feelings, the audience later discovers, are masked by a veil of greed. In her protestation, Goneril says that her feelings of love are Beyond what can be valued, however, the true ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
