The Goals And Goals Of The Black Panther Party
Civil rights are something every person should have. It s the thing that allows people to think and
act freely, and have a healthy life. But for some time, African Americans didn t have civil rights.
They were considered less important and often hated so that people who just so happened to have
brown skin, had fewer opportunities in the U.S. But some people were willing to stand up against
this notion that African Americans didn t deserve civil rights. They began to become groups that
banded together to stop this inequality. One of these groups was the Black Panther party, an
organization dedicated to ending police brutality and improve the lives of African Americans.
The Black Panther Party had clear goals and acted directly on those goals. ... Show more content on

It tired to solve issues in the black community. One of the ways they tried to end police brutality
for blacks is by having armed patrols follow the police in African American communities
(BlackPast). These patrols would wear leather coats and berets to show their military like force.
These patrols would act in civil disobedience to make the police. The party tried to end police
brutality in other ways to by listening in to police scanners to end violent encounters with
African Americans (Washington Post). There were several violent conflicts with the police that
the Panthers got into. John Frey, a member of the black panther party shot and killed a
policeman during one of these conflicts, and spent 15 years in prison after being convicted of
manslaughter (History). The Party also did several other programs to like free breakfast,
schooling, and health clinics to improve the African Americans lives. They also did an armed
protest in the California Sacramento, at the California statehouse (Britannica). This was a
demonstration of civil rights, and the right to bear arms (Engelbert). The Black Panther Party also
relied on symbols and phrases so that the party and its motives would stick in people s heads. The
phrase Black Power was made to show the independence of the

Editing Proofreading
Editing and Proofreading
This handout provides some tips and strategies for revising your writing. To give you a chance to
practice proofreading, we have left seven errors (three spelling errors, two punctuation errors, and
two grammatical errors) in the text of this handout. See if you can spot them!
Is editing the same thing as proofreading?
Although many people use the terms interchangeably, editing and proofreading are two different
stages of the revision process. Both demand close and careful reading, but they focus on different
aspects of the writing and employ different techniques.
Some tips that apply to both editing and proofreading
п‚· Get some distance from the text! It s hard to edit or proofread a paper that you ve just finished ...

When you read silently or too quickly, you may skip over errors or make unconscious
corrections. п‚· Separate the text into individual sentences. This is another technique to help you
to read every sentence carefully. Simply press the return key after every period so that every line
begins a new sentence. Then read each sentence separately, looking for grammar, punctuation, or
spelling errors. If you re working with a printed copy, try using an opaque object like a ruler or a
piece of paper to isolate the line you re working on.
п‚· Circle every punctuation mark. This forces you to look at each one. As you circle, ask yourself
if the punctuation is correct.
п‚· Read the paper backwards. This technique is helpful for checking spelling. Start with the last
word on the last page and work your way back to the beginning, reading each word separately.
Because content, punctuation, and grammar won t make any sense, your focus will be entirely on
the spelling of each word.
You can also read backwards sentence by sentence to check grammar; this will help you avoid
becoming distracted by content issues.
п‚· Proofreading is a learning process. You re not just looking for errors that

What Happens During The Flame Test
1. Identify each of the unknown samples(use specific data to justify your answers for A and B).
Unknown A was NaCI because when looking at this unknown solutions flame and NaCI s flame
they both had this very strong orange color when they were burning they both looked very similar.
The photons seemed to emit the same light. Unknown B was SrCI2 because once against they
both showed the very strong red flame. When looking at the different flames one can conclude that
these two flames were very similar. The photons seemed to emit the same amount of light and this
is why these two looked the same. Unknown Mixture was SrCI2 and CuCI2 because looking at the
different flames of all the salt solutions the two flames that had the same colors as the unknown
mixture did. The colorof a vibrant red was from the SrCI2 and the Green blue colors came from the

3. The metallic atoms change from a liquid state to a gas state during the flame test. Is this a
physical or a chemical change? Explain. This is a chemical change because a new color is
created and it is exciting the electrons. Burning is a chemical reaction because there is a new
substance being created. There is also a color change and that is another way to tell that it was a
chemical reaction. A new substance was made this is why it was a chemical change. If you take
ice for example and melt it turns into a liquid. This is not a chemical change because it is still
water just in a different form nothing new is created. Unlike when the salt solutions are burned and
something totally new is created/

Nature Between Humans And Apes Rhetorical Analysis
Dear Mrs Cavalieri I am informing you that I was quite enthralled with your article The murder of
Johnny . I have always been enticed on the nature amongst Humans and Apes. I d like to mention
how I commend your passionate verbalisation. However, since you have touched a delicate matter,
it has also seemed to cause certain misconceptions. To begin with I would like to reveal that I
undeniably approve the fact that Johnny, an innocuous chimpanzee, who was shot for no
legitimized reason wasn t anything but murder. If there is no reasonably adequate explanation,
what else could it have been? A bit of a thug, according to some Do we truly know the exact
interpretation for this? Does it perhaps imply its history of past aggression or impairment? If so,

Outline For The Catcher In The Rye
At the beginning of the story, Holden is introduced as an apathetic person. He has failed four out
of five of his classes and has received a notice that he is being expelled at Pencey Prep school in
Agerstown, Pennsylvania. Holden was scheduled to return home on a Wednesday, so he
decided to go and visit Mr. Spencer, his history teacher, to say his goodbye. Mr. Spencer advises
Holden to find direction in his life, which got Holden annoyed and dismissed everything
Mr.Spencer has said. Holden returns to his dormitory, where he finds his neighbor, Robert
Ackley and Ward Stradlater, a arrogant and self centered slob. Stradlater then asks Holden to
write an English paper for him, while he prepares for his date with Jane Gallagher, a girl whom
Holden has a crush on and used to date. When Stradlater returns, Holden asks Stradlater if he
tried any sexual act with Jane. Stradlater tease Holden by indicating that he might have had sex
with her, which result Holden becoming angry and punching Stradlater. That night Holden decide
to leave Pencey and return to New York, where he would stay in a hotel instead of going home.
When Holden arrives at the Edmont Hotel, Holden sees a transvestite and a couple who spits
drinks onto each other s faces and started to laugh like crazy. He interprets the couple s behavior as a

Australian Landscape
Patrick White s novel, Voss (1957) tells the story of a nineteenth century German explorer s journey
into the Australian landscape. In this essay, I will examine the attitudes and assumptions towards
the Australian landscape over the past 200+ years, and evaluate what has changed in these contexts.
Attitudes can depend on many cultures, these cultures can differentiate depending on things such as
gender, attitude to the outdoors, individuality, conquest, religion, being urban or rural and drought.
These are only a few of the hundreds of different cultures that can affect attitudes and assumptions
towards Australian landscapes.
The extract depicts that the interaction with the landscape is very European based. When Laura

of great natural beauty and value, it was rare for parks to be established in the face of competing
commercial interests (p.14). This led to the Little Desert dispute in 1967 and changed the system of
public lands. It galvanised public opinion, and the environment threatened, became a major issue in
the 1970 elections. This can be seen as a culture of time and circumstances. 1970 can be seen as the
hippie , controversial age of people that wanted to protect the environment and this is a culture that
has changed the future.
The 1970 election then lead to an increase in size and number of national parks, the establishment
of an environmental protection agency, and from then on the future of Victoria s public lands was
to be decided rationally, scientifically and critically on the basis of scientific research and public
opinion. (Clode 2006) and this is evidence that Australian cultural assumptions and attitudes have

Atticus Is A Good Role Model
In the novel,To Kill a Mockingbird, Harper Lee, the author, brought us into the lives of Jean
Louise, seven, Jem, thirteen and Atticus Finch. Living in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama
during the 1930s was undeniably difficult for the Finches. Jean Louise, often called Scout, and
her brother Jem saw their entire world change when their father, Atticus, was appointed to be
Tom Robinson s lawyer. Tom Robinson was a black man accused of raping a white woman
named Mayella Ewell. Despite all that occurred in and out of Maycomb, Atticus proved to be a
great role model for his kids. He saw the world differently from those around him, and in turn was
able to teach Scout and Jem lessons that very few others knew. Atticus taught his kids to always do
the right thing, to not let race determine how they treat people, and to try to understand others
before judging.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

black men and simply not trying to prove them innocent, as a result, when Atticus decided that he
would attempt to prove that Tom was innocent, the entire town was caught by surprise. Rumors
were spread about him and even little Scout had to deal with being called names by her classmates.

The Necessity Of Radical Reconstruction After The Civil War
The necessity of Radical Reconstruction After the Civil War had ended a period of reconstruction
was in mind, but failed to succeed. President Andrew Johnson s principle was that the South never
had a right to succeed. He also believed that blacks should not have any role in the reconstruction.
Johnson appointed provisional governors and ordered them to call state conventions to establish
new, all white government. Radical Republicansbelieved that people of all skin color had the right
to be equal. In their opinion, blacks should have the same political opportunities as well as rights
as whites. They wanted to see the powers of national government expanded since they believed the
war was fought for equal rights. A Civil Rights Bill was passed on in 1966 which stated That all

The most significant events of the 1920s The 1920s, also known best as the roaring twenties

Mother Savage
A critical issue in Guy de Maupassant s Mother Savage is the gender role of the character
Mother Savage. She is shown to be different from the females who live in the nearby village. The
women in the village are all reliant on others and view Mother Savage as just that, a savage.
Mother Savage is different because she is vengeful and able to plan the death of the soldiers
housed with her. She also lives by herself outside of the village which is odd for women during
the time period. Mother Savage is also shown to be able to survive without the help of the others
in the village. Additionally, she is revealed to have money of her own. Mother Savage is a

During her time period, women were not expected to have their own money instead their
husbands made the money needed for the household. In her introduction de Maupassant says
people did not pity the old woman very much because she had money. This shows that the people
in the village do not see her as similar to them. Since they do not think of her as one of them she
has been given the power to act outside of their expectations and cultural norms. This is also
why she was given the number of soldiers she was given, four were allotted to the old woman,
who was known to be rich. Her having four soldiers made it more significant when she killed
them. If she was not given four soldiers to house by the Prussians they may not have reacted as
they did. Since she had the money to house more soldiers and was empowered by being considered
different from the villagers she was able to make a larger

Argumentative Essay On Social Security
Many people have many different views about the federal government and its role in our economy.
Some people feel that the government should have very little control over the state, while some
believe the federal government is fine and acts as a security blanket. Americans love the idea of
knowing they are safe; safe physically, mentally, and financially. A man named Robert Kiyosaki
once said, When President George W. Bush attempted to reform Social Security, that proposal was
more unpopular with Americans than the Iraq War. People love their entitlements. No matter what
a person s views are about the role of the federal government, a numerous amount of people will
still be interested in collecting Social Security when they reach the age of retirement. There is much
controversy about this act, and many times people have tried to reform it but it somehow always
fell short.
Social Security (SS) is a federal program that provides a steady income for mainly elderly people
who no longer receive wages due to situations such as retirement, disability, or death. Social security
provides social stability to more than ninety six percent of working Americans who retire, and there

Strategic Management And The Corporate Entrepreneurship...
STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT THEORETICAL FRAMEWORKS
Strategic management appeared as a comprehensible research filed in the 196os. Different works
including the strategy and structure (Chandler, 1962), corporate strategy (Ansoff, 1965) contributed
towards the fundamentals of this disciple. A lot of emphasis has also been on how companies can
reach their targets, mainly with regard to profitability and competitive advantages.
As strategic management literature keeps on increasing focusing on competitive advantage and
resource based perspective of the company, developing streams of thought developed to center on
how new entries are embarked on other than new business entry. Different theoretical approaches,
like IO (industrial organization), LO (knowledge based and learning organization) and RBV
(resource based view) are used in strategic management studies. All these strategies independently
have suppositions on the nature of strategic management and the corporate entrepreneurship model.
In theory, entrepreneurship and business management apiece are studies as different disciplines.
The 1980s saw the first attempts at comprehending entrepreneurship and strategy in mono context
of organizational competitive edge (Hoskisson et. al. 1999).
INDUSTRIAL ORGANISATION (IO) MODEL

Thomas King Baby In The Airmail Box Summary

race, and social criticism. From two perspectives the story is narrated by Bob and Linda the

various perspectives King establishes a juxtaposition and parallel shift in society, while
incorporating satire and irony to expose, express and criticize what society called the Sixties

My culture identity, as I know it as is African American. My culture can be seen in food, literature,
religion, language, the community, family structure, the individual, music, dance, art, and could

Nietzsche s View Of Dionysus
In a letter to a nun, Bernard of Clairvaux admonishes, Until now, when living according to your
will and not the will of God, by your law and not that of God, you were living while dead, living
in the world but dead to God; or, if I can speak more truly, living neither in the world or for God
(qtd. in Newman 177). The sentiments that living on one s terms and not God s is and was
common within Christianity. In fact, multiple documents written in the medieval era point to the
tenet that people must live submit their will to God to achieve salvation and to be accepted in the
Christian community. Part of submitting to his doctrine involves inhibiting visceral and brutish

Dionysus, representing the oneness of existence, is experienced as an individuated image
appearing to dazed spectators a relationship that is the germ of Greek tragic theater as a mimesis of
human life (505). If this concept were to exist in Lybeaus Desconus, the townspeople would
experience a sense of awe for both women displayed during the exhibition. They might compare in
positive terms the difference between and preferences they might see. In addition, the hero who is
on display (in this case, Lybeaus Desconus) would provide a sense of unity between the Dionysian
and the Apollonian. Instead of the Apollonian figure emerging from the primordial oneness of
existence where opposites would coexist, Lybeaus Desconus systematically slaughters the creatures
that represent wildness and restricts notions of beauty. The foreground of Nietzsche s criticisms of
Christianity comprises repudiating not only ecstasy but also suffering, manifested through
suppressing bodily impulses and instinctive drives and focusing on an afterlife rather than the
current moment. In general, it is likely Nietzsche would react more positively to the Christian ideals
embedded in many medieval texts than he does in the early 20th century. Ben Morgan reveals

This is if The Walking Dead follows the same story line that the comic books did, which they have

One theory is that Steven Yeun could be simply there filming flashbacks. If he was doing that, then
Yeun would not have been spotted with Paul and at Hilltop. This one would be pretty hard for

The United States Of America And Spain Essay
The late 1800s was a high tension and tumultuous time for both the United States of America and
Spain. Spanish Colonialism had long been receding from its once powerful stronghold in the 16th
and 17th centuries, and in the 1890s, the United States would make certain to diminish the last of
Spain s outlets. The precedent for the American, superpower perspective of the late 1800s is in
large part due to President James Monroe s Doctrine establishing the United Statesas the sole entity
of social, political, and economic interest in the Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine clearly
spells out that any territorial advances (or in this case, any territorial claims, whatsoever) would be
recognized as an act of aggression and the U.S. would act accordingly (hint, hint war). This
document shaped the United States as the sole enforcer of both commerce and democracy in the
Western Hemisphere in the minds of its constituents. Thusly, it is the least bit unusual to see
President McKinley asking to declare war against the Spanish in defense of his country s interest.
President William McKinleys Declaration of War is written to the Congress of the United States as
a plea to go to war in defense of American interests and the Cuban people. The document was
written in 1898, and its objective was simple: persuade Congress to allow him to declare war.
Although the document may shape William McKinley as a strong proponent of the now called
Spanish American War, he very much wished to

Analysis Of Cosmopolitism In Things Fall Apart By Chinua...
It is unbelievable to think that an action of what a person does in the present, can either lead to
nothing or it can become a catastrophe event. In Things Fall Apart, Achebe writes about the
Nigerian culture through the events that happen to the main character which is Okonkowo. In
Cosmopolitism, Appiah writes about the different values, morals, and cultures people in the world
have and how people can live together despite having differences. The event that could have had a
different outcome was when the Abmae elders decided to execute the white missionary man and
later on the group of white people massacred the Abmae village. If the characters in the event were
more cosmopolitan with the concept of understanding each other and uncalled for punishment, then
the event could have been a different outcome. When one applies Appiah s idea of understanding
each other and uncalled for punishment in Cosmopolitism to the event in Things Fall Apart, the
event changes to when the elders would not have executed the white missionary man and
therefore there would be no massacre from the group of white people. When the white man riding

A Brief Note On Shale Gas And Natural Gas
Shale gas is a natural gas that can be extracted from the fabric of shale rocks by means of
hydraulic fracturing, or fracking. There is controversy surrounding this extraction process, as in
the process of building facilities in which gases are extracted, people are made aware of the
hazards that are involved both with building the site of extraction and with extracting the gas itself.
This essay aims to assess the extent to which these hazards can affect those residing in Lancashire.
Throughout the course of human history, conventional natural gas deposits have been the easiest to
extract from formations below the surface. These conventional deposits cannot last forever and
are declining in number, meaning that people are pushed to search for alternative sources whilst
increasing the price of the natural gas that is currently available (Berman, 2016). Fortunately, the
search for alternative sources for natural gas has generally been positive; recent utilisation of
unconventional gas deposits in the US which have led to them becoming the US s primary
source of indigenous gas production (Korn, 2010: 5). As humans advance technologically and
steadily improve their geological knowledge, the percentage of unconventional gas sources that
make up power supplies continue to grow. In 2010, 47% of the UK s electricity was produced by
burning natural gas. In comparison 28% of the electricity the UK had produced in 2010 was from
burning coal, 16% from nuclear reactors and 7% from

Research Paper On Mansa Musa
Sundiata was not the only influential king of ancient Mali. Mansa Musa (1280 1337), the tenth
king of Mali and the grandson of Sundiata s half brother, made a huge impact on the Mali empire.
In 1312, Mansa Musa was elected as the emperor of Mali, becoming the civilization s first
Muslim ruler. (BlackPast). He was almost fluent in Arabic and was described as a Muslim
traditionalist (BlackPast). Mansa Musa is best known for his four thousand mile pilgrimage to
Mecca. Because he was so powerful and rich, with him on his journey, Mansa Musa brought
hundreds of slaves, artisans, and gold. On his pilgrimage, Mansa Musa gave out gold to the poor

Gender Socialization And Gender Expectations In Children
Imagine a five year old girl, her birthday is a few weeks away and her mom is questioning her
about toys she would like to have. She tells her mom she wants a race track and the newest Hot
Wheels set. Her mother is quick discourage this request and suggests asking for something more
girly because race cars are for boys. The little girl is disappointed but abides by her mother s
request and instead asks for a new doll house. In our current culture, there is a huge difference
between what is considered to be for girls or boys. From birth, children are told what colors and
styles of clothing they wear, what toys they should play with, and emotions they should feel.
Often, girls are told they cannot play with toys considered to be for boys and boys are told they
are not allowed to play with toys considered to be for girls. Children who do decide they want to
play with the toys not traditionally for their gender are often scolded by family members, pushing
the children back to their gender specific toys. In early childhood the decisions that determine who
a child is to be are made by their parents or guardians. Gender socialization starts at birth and
continues from adolescence, to adulthood, causing specific and detrimental differences in the way
the genders behave. Before one can dissect gender socialization and gender roleexpectations in
children, they must understand what they are. According to the United Nations International
Children s Emergency Fund (UNICEF),

Methotrexate
Methotrexate is an antimetabolite of folic acid that blocks the formation of thymine within the cell,
rendering it incapable of DNA replication. As a chemotherapeutic agent, it is also employed as an
alternative treatment for psoriasis and rheumatoid arthritis when they are unresponsive to
conventional therapies. Methotrexate (MTX) induces an effect similar to 5 fluorouracil (5 FU) by
interrupting the formation of thymine within the cell, which leads to the inability to replicate DNA.
Unlike 5 FU, which inhibits the action of thymidylate synthetase, MTX binds tightly to
dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR) and blocks the formation of tetrahydrofolate, leading to the
depletion of associated folate co factors (126).

The Statehood of Hawaii
On the 21st of August 1959, a small colony of inhabited Polynesian volcanic rock located in the
middle of the Pacific Ocean became the 50th state named Hawai i . Before Hawai i became the
50th State, foreigners from the United States attempted to annex Hawai i from its people and the
Hawaiian Monarch for political and military gains. It all started as far back as 1893 when Hawai i
was ruled by Hawaiian Kings and Queens. All three attempts at annexation the United States
Diplomats and foreigners failed until 1959 when Hawai i declared Statehood. The United States
Government and its political leaders celebrated along with a small portion of native islanders but

The third attempt at having The Kingdom of Hawai i annexed was a false claim by the United
States declaring Hawai i territory of the United States because it was a Neutral State. The United
States Congress and President McKinley signed into law a Joint Resolution, which they claimed
Hawai i annexed by the United States of America and was now U.S. territory; this claim was a
violation of war between the Hawaiian Kingdom and the United States. The United States claimed
due to concern Hawai i might become part of the European Nation s Empire they needed resolution
claiming Hawaii s Annexation. But Hawai i disputed the claim stating Hawai i could not be
annexed thru a Joint Resolution and that a Joint Resolution is not a treaty; it is a congressional act
on behalf of the United States. The congressional act can only affect U.S. territory and Hawai i
was not a U.S. territory or state to be claimed
Three attempts were made and none were successful, furthermore while the Republic of Hawai i
was making every attempt to annex Hawai i they were caught in the deception, each attempt was
being covered up by other political groups from the United States Government that was in favor of
the annexation. Since the statehood of Hawai i was declared in 1959, many native Hawaiians
continue to protest the annexation of Hawai i and rebut that Hawai i was ever acquired legally by
the United States of America. However the writings and evidence that have

Telomere Research Paper
Time is of the essence! By the end of this research paper the reader will know the reasoning
behind time itself. A telomere is quite significant because it can detect cancer, diseases, and
aging. The telomer was discovered around the 1960 s by Dr. Leonard Hayflick he discovered it
by learning about how long a cell can live. There are billions of cells through plants, animals, and
humans it s how an organism operates. A telomer is at the end of each chromosome inside a
eukaryotecell (Plant and Animal Cell) and its importance is copying DNA(Deoxyribonucleic Acid).
DNA is the genetics that we obtain through our parents. If we could preserve the telomer to be
continuous then organisms can become eternal. A telomer holds the true meaning of... Show more

Telomere can be described as a weight lifting bar, telomers are at the end of each chromosome
like two weights on both ends of a bar. A chromosome is an organelle inside the eukaryotic cell
(animal and plant cell), chromosomes obtain genetic information forming genes. Plants,
animals, and humans contain trillions of cells throughout their anatomy. How does a telomere
relate to genetics? A telomere helps the cell reproduce DNA. Without copying DNA, it is
impossible for a cell to live. In 2009 a Noble Prize was won by three experts on heredity
discovered the telomere genetic code. One of their significant pieces of this research was in the
1970 s when they did a critical research paper on isolating the sequence of telomeres. They
quickly discovered a telomer is used many times each use the telomere breaks off when the
DNA is replicated that s when the length of the telomer shrinks. Before a telomere was
discovered Dr. Leonard Hayflick discovered how long a cell can live and his results come out to
be 50 to 60 cycles. His results were not understood by scientist but they had faith in his research
they quickly understood once the telomer was discovered scientist concluded with a hypothesis if
they can control the length of a telomer than I cell can be indestructible it would live forever.

The Neolithic Revolution
Lasting Impacts and Legacies of Events and People in Ancient History Section One The
Neolithic Revolution In Neolithic lecture and presentation, the Neolithic advances are described
in detail. The Neolithic period is crucial to later history, and created a lasting impact, because of
the developments made at this time. During the Neolithic period, food production was changed;
agriculture and livestock raising was invented, this secured a stable food supply. These
inventions created the foundation of the food industry as we know it today. Having a steady
supply of food then set into motion the other developments of the era. A stockpile of food meant
that communities could save the food for later, creating a food surplus, and this overabundance
of food allowed for an increase in population. Another result of the food surplus was gaining the
ability to trade with other communities for other raw materials and goods. The majority of
people no longer needed to work as food producers, so specialized craftsman in the communities
evolved and developed. The individuals who remained working as food producers could then
trade with the craftsman for their work or product, and both would benefit from the exchange.
Social classes also emerged from the Neolithic Revolution. The classes were based on wealth and
status; individuals and groups that gained control of a food surplus could gain power in the
community by having control over the distribution of it. This laid the framework for any

While interviewing him, I decided to partake in a ride along. During the ride along we had a call

The Downside Of Downsizing Analysis
According to the article, The Downside of Downsizing, Caela Farren, points out that companies
no longer have loyalty to their workers; therefore, it is no surprise that workers no longer look
to remain in jobs long term. Farren also believes that companies need to look beyond the bottom
line and see that it is the human factor that makes the company successful (Farren, 2008).
Receiving notice that your position will be impacted by a reduction in force, downsizing, or
outsourcing, regardless of what it is called, it has the same effect and that is a loss of
employment and security. Reports of job loss in 2015 indicate that close to180,000 people have
been eliminated by mass layoffs from large companies. The news reports that there are more cuts

Comparing and Contrasting Shelley s Frankenstein with Brook s Young Frankenstein
The 1818 book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and the 1972 movie Young Frankenstein by Mel
Brooks both portray the differences in feminism regarding the cultural times through the character
of Elizabeth. When Mary Shelley wrote the book Frankenstein, she was on a mission to pursue
equal rights in education for her daughter. In Shelley s time, the only way to show feminine
empowerment was to be literate and well poised, which readers can see in certain passages
featuring Elizabeth in Shelley s book. In the 1970 s, when the movie Young Frankensteinwas made,

By Elizabeth being so engrossed in keeping a good appearance and not even hug or kiss her
husband goodbye, she demonstrates that she is more important than any man, even her lover.
Also in this scene, her voice is noticeably louder than Frankenstein s as she proclaims her love for
him, hinting that because he is so captivated by her beauty, she has the upper hand, a common
trait sought to be depicted by many women in the 70 s. Just like in the novel, Elizabeth takes a
backseat during most of the plot but obviously misses her soon to be husband, just as the novel
Elizabeth did. Contrastingly, the film s Elizabeth is able to make a trip to Europe to see
Frankenstein and to be with him. However, when she arrives, she is seduced by the monster. This
act demonstrates Elizabeth s free will and unwillingness to hold back her feelings due to a societal
norm that she must stay with the man who she has been engaged to, as it is her personal choice to
be with the Creature. As the audience discovers, Elizabeth is truly only attracted to and falls in
love with the Creature because he is physically well endowed and attractive. Lipstick Feminism
shows that outward sexuality empowers women, which is probably what was demonstrated with
the love story between Elizabeth and the Creature. Elizabeth and the Creature end up marrying,

Long Live Latin
Latin is a language that a lot of people had to study in school or university with varying degrees of
enthusiasm, given its common status as a dead language. In her essay Long Live Latin! The
Language that Never Died Katja Wiesner argues that Latin should be referred as vivant linguae
mortuae, living dead language rather than being considered dead. The author demonstrates this by
pointing out that although there are no native speakers of Latin anymore since people study it in

communication purposes.
In order to support her argument, Wiesner highlights that Latin has survived through Romance

She manages doing that by not using much Latin terminology and If she does, she does provide a

The author s first argument recognizes the language s ability to survive through Romance
languages such as Portuguese and Spanish and how it has influenced their languages grammatical
structures as well as their vocabulary. The author also provides the rather unexpected example of
the English language which also plays a part in preserving Latin, since the latter has had an
influence on the former s vocabulary, abbreviations and structures. This was a very interesting point
since a lot of people, including myself, associate Latin primarily with Romance languages rather
than Germanic ones.
Another surprising but convincing point, listed in the essay, is the fact that Latin is not only used
by the Catholic Church, as a mean for communication or for liturgical purposes, but also the
Churches in promoting the language via social networks such as Twitter, where Pope Francis is
active. Even though one could argue that the purpose of establishing this account was not primarily
promotion of the language, Wiesner points out that other user answer to the Pope in Latin, which
proves that the Catholic Church is helping to popularize

Do Direct International Flights Represent A Regional...
Do Direct International Flights Represent a Regional Development Opportunity in a Global
Economy?
1.INTRODUCTION
Does having access to direct international flights impact the attraction of foreign direct investment
(FDI) and the strength of a local and regional economy? This paper attempts to answer this question
through a two phased research project: 1) a literature review, and 2) a case study of a possible direct
international flight from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport located in Northeast Ohio to
Frankfurt, Germany. The choice of international flight was based on the existence of German
companies in Northeast Ohio, particularly in the automotive industry, the region s potential to
attract German companies, and the available connections between Frankfurt and other destinations
in the world.
The relationship between FDI and air connectivity should not be considered static. This relationship
depends on the time period in question. The focus of this paper is the recent phase of globalization
following the invention of the internet, creation of the European Union single market, and the
North American Free Trade Agreement. While the globalization phenomenon is not new, the
relationship between cities, multinational activities and economic growth has been largely
redefined in this phase. In today s world, the scale and performance of large cities cannot be

Mini Corporate Social Responsibility Essay
Current Efforts for Social Responsibility
Activision Blizzard is an industry leader for producing and designing video games. They have
annual revenues of 4 billion, annual income of 2.2 billion and total assets of 5.5 billion. Activision,
as they are commonly known, have great customer support and even better technical support,
despite having to deal with one of the most impatient and finicky customer bases, the gamer.
So how do they stack up in social responsibility?
As a video game company Activision does not have the usual responsibilities that other companies
have. Petrol companies and other mining/energy companies have a responsibility to the public to
not do unnecessary harm while ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Activision as a video game producing company has a great wealth of resources and knowledge
for Wise Web Kids to use in making its video games. This way the kids will be more likely to
play the games since they will have been made by a major video game publisher instead of an
internet safety organization. The goal of getting kids to pay attention to lessons about fraud,
bullying, and even sexting is achieved with Activision s help as a game developing company and
all of its branches that work on game design.
Due to the partnership with Wise Web Kids, Activision puts a language filter in all of its games,
and gives its games a fair rating. The rating is so that parents are aware of what kind of game they
are buying for their children and Activision makes sure that no game is sold without warning that
content may not be appropriate for individuals under a certain age limit. The language filter in their
online games ensures that even in the online community parents can protect their children from
playing with people who would use adult language in some of the more kid friendly games.
Analysis of Current Social Responsibility
Activision is doing a great job performing its role as far as social responsibility goes. They are
extremely aware of what their video games are doing to our society and how they are effecting
America s youth. Due to this, they want to continue to do more with regards to education and
safety. The importance of

The Presidential Election Of The Obama Administration Essay
In 2016, the end of the Obama administration but the beginning of someone else s, who will it be?
In the 2016 presidential race there are seven candidates, five republicans and two democrats but
only two will win their respective party nomination. The Republican candidates are Donald Trump,
an entrepreneur, Ted Cruz, a United StatesSenator of Texas, Marco Rubio, a U.S. Senator of
Florida, John Kasich, Governor of Ohio, and Ben Carson, a neurosurgeon. On the Democrat side
the running candidates are former First Lady, Secretary of State, and Senator of New York, Hilary
Clinton and Bernie Sanders, former U.S. Representative and sitting U.S. Senator of Vermont. As of
March 1, 2016, only three of the republican candidates have a fighting chance of winning the party
nominee, Trump, Cruz, and Rubio.
In order to win the Republican nominee, the candidate must win 1237 of the 2472 delegates of the
Republican National Committee by July 18th. Forty six percent of the delegates are unpledged,
meaning that they are a member of the party and are free to vote for any candidate of their liking,
they are sometimes called super delegates. The other fifty three percent of delegates are district
delegates that the candidates will pick up by winning in the caucuses and primaries of states and
U.S. territories. Candidate Donald Trump is in the lead with winning the most delegates, with 221
delegates, Cruz in second with sixty nine, Rubio in third with forty one, Kasich has nineteen and

Memento Mori Essay
Memento Mori is a short story following a man struggling with anterograde amnesia and his
pursuit of his wife s murderer. The short story was adapted into a feature length film titled
Memento which makes many changes to the narrative structure and characters of the short
story, but maintains the same premise. Memento Mori features multiple narrators, one first
person and one third person. The first person narration is provided by the story s protagonist
Earl via notes addressed to a you, which turns out to be Earl. The third person narrator provides
details as to what actions Earl is currently taking in the present time. After successfully
murdering the man he believes killed his wife, Earl is riding in the back of a car. The ambiguity
of the third person narrator in this scene causes the viewer to question whether Earl escaped via a
taxi or was apprehended by the police. The story reaches its climax as Earl loses his pen and
begins frantically trying to obtain a replacement so that he can document his success in killing the
man who ruined his life. All tension dissipates after the car hits a pothole and dies , forgetting the
events that just transpired. The ultimate antagonist in this story is Earl s anterograde amnesia. His
condition is the primary obstacle... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

describe objects that remind people of death such as skulls. The bell is meant to serve as a
memento mori for Earl that reminds him of his figurative death following his wife s murder. Earl
lives in short increments, constantly dying and being reborn as a new individual. Earl himself hints

Character Analysis Of Death Of A Salesman
Arthur Miller begins his play with an excellent description of the setting of the play. This makes
it easy for the reader to imagine themselves actually watching the play and causes the reader to
be able to better relate to the play. Because Death of a Salesman can be considered an emotional
play, it qualifies as being a timeless work of literature, especially because it has the ability to touch
the human heart. Willy Loman is a salesman, who lives in New York City with his wife Linda.
From the beginning of the play, Miller makes it obvious that Willy struggles with many obstacles,
such as anger and even confusion since there are many times throughout the play where Willy
becomes severely confused. Many characters throughout the play,... Show more content on

Ben, Willy s older brother, believes that his American dream was that he started out with little,
and ended up being very successful. It is ironic, because Ben brags that he came out of the
African jungle a rich man, so he did not necessarily achieve the American dream, since his
wealth began in Africa. Although Ben is not alive anymore, he frequently appears in Willy s
dream and can be considered as a symbol of the success that Willy desires. Another character
who struggles with trying to pursue the American Dream is Happy, Willy s youngest son.
Happy possesses many of the same traits as Willy and lives the lie of the American Dream.
Happy shows many signs of delusion, even believing that he is in a higher position in his store
than he really is. Another character, Biff, the oldest son, also struggles with the idea of the
American Dream. Biff s main struggle throughout the play is between pleasing his father or
pleasing himself. Willy wants Biff to inherit his world of sales, but Biff finds himself happier
outdoors and is a farmhand. At the end of the day, Biff realizes that his happiness is more
important than being rich and achieving the American dream. He returns to the farm where he
makes less than $35 a week and does manual labor. Biff can also be considered a relatable character
because he redefined his version of the American dream. This play is very relatable to its readers

Case Study Cannonball
I think the cannonball should go with Omniture to market their company. The reason being,
Omniture is the most popular Internet marketing on the web. They re have many reputable
sources such as timeinc.com. Omniture makes wonderful websites not to mention their program
based file share is really good as well. If Marti needs to sell any type of model trains, books,
spare parts you name it I think Omniture could do it. All their sites look clean and professional
and have good reviews. I also looked at another marketer, Linkshare. If Marti wanted to go for a
smaller company that feels intimate with it s customers I think he should go with them. They are
not the biggest or most popular but, they specialize in affiliate marketingin which the users

Renewable Energy Through Feed On Tariffs And Taxes
Introduction
In recent years, more has been debated on whether or not nonrenewable energy such as fossil
fuel has caused global warming. Sakamoto and Managi (2016) believe fossil fuel is the likely
reason that temperatures have been rising from greenhouse gases, increasing the CO2 emissions
(p. 1). With depleting resources, it may be a good idea to look more seriously at renewable energy
(Sakamoto Managi, 2016, p. 16). More governments have been trying to create policies to
encourage usage of renewable energy. However, it has been debated what is the best way to
enforce renewable energy. In this paper, I will discuss two ways countries have been encouraging
renewable energy through feed in tariffs and taxes.

14). An increase in marginal cost of nonrenewable resources will drive more consumers to
renewable resources.
On the other hand, a tax on nonrenewable energy does not have the same effect. Sakamoto and
Managi (2016) discovered:
The introduction of the tax on the nonrenewable energy sector leads to the reduction of
nonrenewable energy use and an acceleration of renewable energy use, but the acceleration is not
enough to keep the pre tax level of production... because the marginal cost of renewable energy is
high as renewable energy use increases (p. 15).
A tax on nonrenewable energy leads to an increase in marginal cost of renewable energy. Less
consumers were interested in buying when prices on renewable energy rose.
Another way governments have been trying to implement renewable energy is through feed in
tariffs. Feed in tariffs usually consist of some type of purchase obligation and also a tariff
payment on renewable energy that is fixed for every unit of electricity (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). The
grid operator involved in the purchase obligation must buy the renewable electricity no matter what
(Jacobs, 2012, p. 43). The producer has the right to a certain amount of money for every unit of
electricity that they produce (Jacobs, 2012, p. 43).
Jacobs (2012) conducted studies in Europe in the countries of Germany, Spain, and France that use

Teotihuacan Art
Although the Olmec, Teotihuacan and Post Classic are civilizations that are years apart from each
other, many of their basic ideological concepts are extremely similar. Some scholars claim that the
forms of the objects of visual culture remain constant with the passage of time, while the symbolism
and ideology behind objects of visual cultureare altered by the different civilizations that adopt the
form and by the passage of time. Form and style are directly correlated, as the style being used to
produce an object of visual culture will have an impact on its overall form and appearance. It is
evident that each civilization had their own art style, therefore, making the form to vary throughout

While certain symbols and figures maintained the significance and meanings despite the passage of
time, art styles utilized by the different Mesoamerican civilizations evolved with the passage of
time. Having a unified system in which each of the figures possessed the same meanings and
importance for each civilization, allowed for the emergence of an art style that could be easily
understood and utilized by most. Before the Postclassical International system, there was not a
unified art style used through Mesoamerica; this system was an expression of the unification
among the dominant religious and political views at the time after the fall of Teotihuacan and
before the rise of Tula (Kubler Ecleticism 172). Developing a unique, yet universal style was
enabled by the similarities in the ideologies of the different Mesoamerican civilizations. Through
repeated interaction, the symbols and styles merged. In order to create a system different cultures
could understand and identify, the meaning attributed to each of the symbols had to be somewhat
similar throughout the different regions. The merger could not have occurred if the symbolized
used by the different population did not resemble each other. Due to their similarity, with repeated
interaction the

Beauty Jane Martin Character Analysis
The play beauty by Jane Martin displays the jealousy that two friends have for each other. Carla
and Bethany both share a jealousy. Carla is jealous of Bethany and in return Bethany is jealous
of Carla. This play uses realism or realistic drama in the sense that the two girls are jealous of
one another, however the ladies switch bodies which is completely unrealistic that will be
discussed later. Bethany found a lamp on the beach and when she rubbed it a genie came out and
informed Bethany she had three wishes. She wished for money with her first wish, and her uncle
to be healed with her second, and then saved her last wish so she could tell her best friend, Carla,
about the wishes. Carla was on the phone getting a marriage proposal when Bethany walked in this

Bethany wants to look like Carla because she thinks she is beautiful. Carla finds this hard to
believe since she believes Bethany does not usually like her. Bethany is envious of Carla
because she is the center of attention, she gets discounts on merchandise, and sex. She gets
unsolicited marriage proposals and she is a model. Bethany does not realize all the things that
Carla has to deal with, and that the grass is not always greener on the other side. She fails to see
the downsides to being beautiful, and only concentrates on the positives. She does not realize
that if and when she gets Carla s life she will have to deal with things like being called by creeps
and she would not have a steady job. Carla tries to convince Bethany that she does not want her
life, she will not be acknowledged for her intelligence, but Bethany does not listen. Carla told
Bethany she was also

Chesapeake Bay Research Paper
Waterways are a crucial part of transportation, food and income for many people. The
Chesapeake Bay provides hundreds of people with jobs, habitats for a wide variety of animals and
transportation for goods. Since John Smith sailed to America and upon entering the Bay said
Within is a country that may have the prerogative over the most pleasant places known, for large
and pleasant navigable rivers, heaven and earth never agreed better to frame a place for man s

Smart planning and using green technologies can reduce the impact that urbanization and
growing populations puts on the Bay. Pervious paving surfaces reduce the amount of runoff
going into the Bay. There are many benefits to using pervious concrete, these benefits are
achieved with the use of an innovative design. Pervious pavement, also referred to as porous or
permeable pavement, is actually a system consisting of an open graded surface layer of concrete,
asphalt, or pavers, typically placed over an open graded aggregate base layer. The pavement
structure has a large percentage of void spaces allowing water to permeate through the surface and
base at a rate comparable to that of a grass lawn (Broviak). Strict stormwater control measures have
recently been passed in states surrounding the Chesapeake s watershed, including Maryland, and
many require a certain amount of green space or use of green technologies in construction. In
addition to the growing use of pervious pavement techniques, other types of stormwater
management techniques are gaining popularity. In a thesis paper from University of Maryland,
Wilson discusses alternative ways to engineer for the Bay; By using technologies such as cisterns,
green roofs, and constructed wetlands, the built environment can be designed to decrease our need
for expensive water purifying infrastructure and preserve the health of fragile estuary ecosystems
such as the Chesapeake Bay. Rain gardens are a viable alternative to storm drains to deal with
runoff from impervious areas. A rain garden captures water that would usually run into a storm
drain and eventually be discharged into a river and allows it to infiltrate into the ground and for
evapotranspiration to occur. In a study done to evaluate how effective rain gardens are at capturing
and reducing runoff results were

When Asher is at his own home, or at his Uncle s house, Yudel Krinsky provides an opening and
expands Asher s artistic horizons and ability by supplying the materials. He positively mirrors
Asher and tries to help Asher preserve his heritage as a Hasidic Jew whilst still supporting his

on occasion helps him in the store and is able to feel comfortable. The store is described as warm
by Asher in the latter part of the text when returning from Europe, and is appropriately addressed
because it feels like Asher s second home, warm and cozy.
Our mind conjures an image of Yudel after Chaim Potok s first technique of imagery is used to
describe him. He was short and thin, with large bulging eyes, a beaklike nose, and pinched
wrinkled features. A dark stubble covered his face. He starts of being described in
uncomplimentary terms. Asher perceives him as being peculiar and foreign. You learned the store

The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies
The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies Overview and History The Walt Disney
Company is a major media and entertainment enterprise that is based in Burbank, California and
operates in more than forty countries with a worldwide appeal. After going bankrupt with his first
cartoon company Laugh O Gram in 1922 Walt Disney moved to Hollywood, California to start
over (Campbell, Martin, Fabos 456). Walt and his brother Roy created the Disney Brothers
Cartoon studio in 1923 and they signed a contract with M.J. Winkler to produce a series of
animated comedies which became known as the Alice Comedies (Walt Disney). In 1928 they
debuted Steamboat Willie, an animated film with synchronized sound that features the character
Mickey Mouse who would go on to become the world known icon for the Walt Disney Corporation
(Walt Disney). The following year the brothers replaced their partnership with the creation of four
companies: Walt Disney Production, Ltd.; Walt Disney Enterprises; Liled Realty and Investment
Company; and the Disney Film Recording Company (Walt Disney). From a struggling cartoon
studio the company grew and expanded to include motion pictures, documentaries, and television
programs. The continued successes enabled Walt Disney Productions to make an initial public
stock offering in 1940 (Walt Disney). The Disney Empire continued to grow with the opening of its
first theme park, Disneyland in 1955. Additional theme parks including Walt Disney World, Epcot,

Formation Of Dipeptides And Polypeptides From Amino Acids
Formation of dipeptides and polypeptides via amino acids
Dipeptides and polypeptides
Amino acids are the monomers of proteins, which means that proteins are just long chains of amino
acids, that have been bonded together end to end. Amino acids can be used to form larger
molecules to form larger molecules to form condensation reactions.
When a condensation reaction occurs, a reaction between the amino group(of one amino acid) and
the acid group (from another amino acid) will cause a covalent bond to form between those two
amino acids, (this bond is also known as a peptide bond), the resulting reaction will form a much
larger mad e from the two amino acids the molecule that is formed is known as a dipeptide
molecule (a dipeptide molecule is a molecule consisting of two amino acids bonded by a peptide
bond), because it is a condensation reaction a water molecule will also form.
When more and more amino acids go through the condensation reaction, they will bond to the other
amino acids via the peptide bonds; this will eventually cause the formation of a polypeptide.
Primary structure of proteins
We know that proteins are basically just amino acids bonded by peptide bonds which form a chain.
However the function of protein is determined by the structure of that protein itself, we can
determine the structure of an amino acid by observing what sequence the amino are in, each
protein or polypeptide as its own unique sequence of amino acids, we refer

  • 2. The Goals And Goals Of The Black Panther Party Civil rights are something every person should have. It s the thing that allows people to think and act freely, and have a healthy life. But for some time, African Americans didn t have civil rights. They were considered less important and often hated so that people who just so happened to have brown skin, had fewer opportunities in the U.S. But some people were willing to stand up against this notion that African Americans didn t deserve civil rights. They began to become groups that banded together to stop this inequality. One of these groups was the Black Panther party, an organization dedicated to ending police brutality and improve the lives of African Americans. The Black Panther Party had clear goals and acted directly on those goals. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... It tired to solve issues in the black community. One of the ways they tried to end police brutality for blacks is by having armed patrols follow the police in African American communities (BlackPast). These patrols would wear leather coats and berets to show their military like force. These patrols would act in civil disobedience to make the police. The party tried to end police brutality in other ways to by listening in to police scanners to end violent encounters with African Americans (Washington Post). There were several violent conflicts with the police that the Panthers got into. John Frey, a member of the black panther party shot and killed a policeman during one of these conflicts, and spent 15 years in prison after being convicted of manslaughter (History). The Party also did several other programs to like free breakfast, schooling, and health clinics to improve the African Americans lives. They also did an armed protest in the California Sacramento, at the California statehouse (Britannica). This was a demonstration of civil rights, and the right to bear arms (Engelbert). The Black Panther Party also relied on symbols and phrases so that the party and its motives would stick in people s heads. The phrase Black Power was made to show the independence of the ... • 3. Editing Proofreading Editing and Proofreading This handout provides some tips and strategies for revising your writing. To give you a chance to practice proofreading, we have left seven errors (three spelling errors, two punctuation errors, and two grammatical errors) in the text of this handout. See if you can spot them! Is editing the same thing as proofreading? Although many people use the terms interchangeably, editing and proofreading are two different stages of the revision process. Both demand close and careful reading, but they focus on different aspects of the writing and employ different techniques. Some tips that apply to both editing and proofreading п‚· Get some distance from the text! It s hard to edit or proofread a paper that you ve just finished ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When you read silently or too quickly, you may skip over errors or make unconscious corrections. п‚· Separate the text into individual sentences. This is another technique to help you to read every sentence carefully. Simply press the return key after every period so that every line begins a new sentence. Then read each sentence separately, looking for grammar, punctuation, or spelling errors. If you re working with a printed copy, try using an opaque object like a ruler or a piece of paper to isolate the line you re working on. п‚· Circle every punctuation mark. This forces you to look at each one. As you circle, ask yourself if the punctuation is correct. п‚· Read the paper backwards. This technique is helpful for checking spelling. Start with the last word on the last page and work your way back to the beginning, reading each word separately. Because content, punctuation, and grammar won t make any sense, your focus will be entirely on the spelling of each word. You can also read backwards sentence by sentence to check grammar; this will help you avoid becoming distracted by content issues. п‚· Proofreading is a learning process. You re not just looking for errors that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Unknown A was NaCI because when looking at this unknown solutions flame and NaCI s flame they both had this very strong orange color when they were burning they both looked very similar. The photons seemed to emit the same light. Unknown B was SrCI2 because once against they both showed the very strong red flame. When looking at the different flames one can conclude that these two flames were very similar. The photons seemed to emit the same amount of light and this is why these two looked the same. The metallic atoms change from a liquid state to a gas state during the flame test. Is this a physical or a chemical change? Explain. This is a chemical change because a new color is created and it is exciting the electrons. Burning is a chemical reaction because there is a new substance being created. There is also a color change and that is another way to tell that it was a chemical reaction. A new substance was made this is why it was a chemical change. If you take ice for example and melt it turns into a liquid. This is not a chemical change because it is still water just in a different form nothing new is created. Unlike when the salt solutions are burned and something totally new is created/ 4. • 5. Nature Between Humans And Apes Rhetorical Analysis Dear Mrs Cavalieri I am informing you that I was quite enthralled with your article The murder of Johnny . I have always been enticed on the nature amongst Humans and Apes. I d like to mention how I commend your passionate verbalisation. However, since you have touched a delicate matter, it has also seemed to cause certain misconceptions. To begin with I would like to reveal that I undeniably approve the fact that Johnny, an innocuous chimpanzee, who was shot for no legitimized reason wasn t anything but murder. If there is no reasonably adequate explanation, what else could it have been? A bit of a thug, according to some Do we truly know the exact interpretation for this? • 7. Australian Landscape Patrick White s novel, Voss (1957) tells the story of a nineteenth century German explorer s journey into the Australian landscape. In this essay, I will examine the attitudes and assumptions towards the Australian landscape over the past 200+ years, and evaluate what has changed in these contexts. Attitudes can depend on many cultures, these cultures can differentiate depending on things such as gender, attitude to the outdoors, individuality, conquest, religion, being urban or rural and drought. These are only a few of the hundreds of different cultures that can affect attitudes and assumptions towards Australian landscapes. This can be seen as a culture of time and circumstances. 1970 can be seen as the hippie , controversial age of people that wanted to protect the environment and this is a culture that has changed the future. The 1970 election then lead to an increase in size and number of national parks, the establishment of an environmental protection agency, and from then on the future of Victoria s public lands was to be decided rationally, scientifically and critically on the basis of scientific research and public opinion. Living in the small town of Maycomb, Alabama during the 1930s was undeniably difficult for the Finches. Jean Louise, often called Scout, and her brother Jem saw their entire world change when their father, Atticus, was appointed to be Tom Robinson s lawyer. Tom Robinson was a black man accused of raping a white woman named Mayella Ewell. Despite all that occurred in and out of Maycomb, Atticus proved to be a great role model for his kids. He saw the world differently from those around him, and in turn was able to teach Scout and Jem lessons that very few others knew. President Andrew Johnson s principle was that the South never had a right to succeed. He also believed that blacks should not have any role in the reconstruction. Johnson appointed provisional governors and ordered them to call state conventions to establish new, all white government. Radical Republicansbelieved that people of all skin color had the right to be equal. In their opinion, blacks should have the same political opportunities as well as rights as whites. She is shown to be different from the females who live in the nearby village. The women in the village are all reliant on others and view Mother Savage as just that, a savage. Mother Savage is different because she is vengeful and able to plan the death of the soldiers housed with her. She also lives by herself outside of the village which is odd for women during the time period. Mother Savage is also shown to be able to survive without the help of the others in the village. Additionally, she is revealed to have money of her own. Mother Savage is a nontraditional Femalebecause she is empowered compared to females of her time.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In her introduction de Maupassant says people did not pity the old woman very much because she had money. This shows that the people in the village do not see her as similar to them. Since they do not think of her as one of them she has been given the power to act outside of their expectations and cultural norms. This is also why she was given the number of soldiers she was given, four were allotted to the old woman, who was known to be rich. Her having four soldiers made it more significant when she killed them. If she was not given four soldiers to house by the Prussians they may not have reacted as they did. • 13. Argumentative Essay On Social Security Many people have many different views about the federal government and its role in our economy. Some people feel that the government should have very little control over the state, while some believe the federal government is fine and acts as a security blanket. Americans love the idea of knowing they are safe; safe physically, mentally, and financially. A man named Robert Kiyosaki once said, When President George W. Bush attempted to reform Social Security, that proposal was more unpopular with Americans than the Iraq War. People love their entitlements. No matter what a person s views are about the role of the federal government, a numerous amount of people will still be interested in collecting Social Security when they reach the age of retirement. There is much controversy about this act, and many times people have tried to reform it but it somehow always fell short. Dionysus, representing the oneness of existence, is experienced as an individuated image appearing to dazed spectators a relationship that is the germ of Greek tragic theater as a mimesis of human life (505). They might compare in positive terms the difference between and preferences they might see. In addition, the hero who is on display (in this case, Lybeaus Desconus) would provide a sense of unity between the Dionysian and the Apollonian. Instead of the Apollonian figure emerging from the primordial oneness of existence where opposites would coexist, Lybeaus Desconus systematically slaughters the creatures that represent wildness and restricts notions of beauty. The foreground of Nietzsche s criticisms of Christianity comprises repudiating not only ecstasy but also suffering, manifested through suppressing bodily impulses and instinctive drives and focusing on an afterlife rather than the current moment. • 20. The United States Of America And Spain Essay The late 1800s was a high tension and tumultuous time for both the United States of America and Spain. Spanish Colonialism had long been receding from its once powerful stronghold in the 16th and 17th centuries, and in the 1890s, the United States would make certain to diminish the last of Spain s outlets. The precedent for the American, superpower perspective of the late 1800s is in large part due to President James Monroe s Doctrine establishing the United Statesas the sole entity of social, political, and economic interest in the Western Hemisphere. The Monroe Doctrine clearly spells out that any territorial advances (or in this case, any territorial claims, whatsoever) would be recognized as an act of aggression and the U.S. would act accordingly (hint, hint war). This document shaped the United States as the sole enforcer of both commerce and democracy in the Western Hemisphere in the minds of its constituents. Thusly, it is the least bit unusual to see President McKinley asking to declare war against the Spanish in defense of his country s interest. President William McKinleys Declaration of War is written to the Congress of the United States as a plea to go to war in defense of American interests and the Cuban people. It is unbelievable to think that an action of what a person does in the present, can either lead to nothing or it can become a catastrophe event. In Things Fall Apart, Achebe writes about the Nigerian culture through the events that happen to the main character which is Okonkowo. In Cosmopolitism, Appiah writes about the different values, morals, and cultures people in the world have and how people can live together despite having differences. The event that could have had a different outcome was when the Abmae elders decided to execute the white missionary man and later on the group of white people massacred the Abmae village. If the characters in the event were more cosmopolitan with the concept of understanding each other and uncalled for punishment, then the event could have been a different outcome. When one applies Appiah s idea of understanding each other and uncalled for punishment in Cosmopolitism to the event in Things Fall Apart, the event changes to when the elders would not have executed the white missionary man and therefore there would be no massacre from the group of white people. When the white man riding a bicycle came to the Abmae village, the villagers were horrified to see a foreigner. The white man who came to Abmae did not cause any harm to the villagers and yet the elders of the Abmae village decided to execute the white man. The Neolithic Revolution Lasting Impacts and Legacies of Events and People in Ancient History Section One The Neolithic Revolution In Neolithic lecture and presentation, the Neolithic advances are described in detail. The Neolithic period is crucial to later history, and created a lasting impact, because of the developments made at this time. During the Neolithic period, food production was changed; agriculture and livestock raising was invented, this secured a stable food supply. These inventions created the foundation of the food industry as we know it today. Having a steady supply of food then set into motion the other developments of the era. A stockpile of food meant that communities could save the food for later, creating a food surplus, and this overabundance of food allowed for an increase in population. Another result of the food surplus was gaining the ability to trade with other communities for other raw materials and goods. The majority of people no longer needed to work as food producers, so specialized craftsman in the communities evolved and developed. The individuals who remained working as food producers could then trade with the craftsman for their work or product, and both would benefit from the exchange. Social classes also emerged from the Neolithic Revolution. The classes were based on wealth and status; individuals and groups that gained control of a food surplus could gain power in the community by having control over the distribution of it. The Downside Of Downsizing Analysis According to the article, The Downside of Downsizing, Caela Farren, points out that companies no longer have loyalty to their workers; therefore, it is no surprise that workers no longer look to remain in jobs long term. Farren also believes that companies need to look beyond the bottom line and see that it is the human factor that makes the company successful (Farren, 2008). Comparing and Contrasting Shelley s Frankenstein with Brook s Young Frankenstein The 1818 book Frankenstein by Mary Shelley and the 1972 movie Young Frankenstein by Mel Brooks both portray the differences in feminism regarding the cultural times through the character of Elizabeth. When Mary Shelley wrote the book Frankenstein, she was on a mission to pursue equal rights in education for her daughter. In Shelley s time, the only way to show feminine empowerment was to be literate and well poised, which readers can see in certain passages featuring Elizabeth in Shelley s book. By Elizabeth being so engrossed in keeping a good appearance and not even hug or kiss her husband goodbye, she demonstrates that she is more important than any man, even her lover. Also in this scene, her voice is noticeably louder than Frankenstein s as she proclaims her love for him, hinting that because he is so captivated by her beauty, she has the upper hand, a common trait sought to be depicted by many women in the 70 s. Just like in the novel, Elizabeth takes a backseat during most of the plot but obviously misses her soon to be husband, just as the novel Elizabeth did. Contrastingly, the film s Elizabeth is able to make a trip to Europe to see Frankenstein and to be with him. However, when she arrives, she is seduced by the monster. This act demonstrates Elizabeth s free will and unwillingness to hold back her feelings due to a societal norm that she must stay with the man who she has been engaged to, as it is her personal choice to be with the Creature. As the audience discovers, Elizabeth is truly only attracted to and falls in love with the Creature because he is physically well endowed and attractive. The Language that Never Died Katja Wiesner argues that Latin should be referred as vivant linguae mortuae, living dead language rather than being considered dead. The author demonstrates this by pointing out that although there are no native speakers of Latin anymore since people study it in school or university, the language has constantly been evolving and it is still being used for communication purposes. The author also provides the rather unexpected example of the English language which also plays a part in preserving Latin, since the latter has had an influence on the former s vocabulary, abbreviations and structures. This was a very interesting point since a lot of people, including myself, associate Latin primarily with Romance languages rather than Germanic ones. Another surprising but convincing point, listed in the essay, is the fact that Latin is not only used by the Catholic Church, as a mean for communication or for liturgical purposes, but also the Churches in promoting the language via social networks such as Twitter, where Pope Francis is active. Do Direct International Flights Represent a Regional Development Opportunity in a Global Economy? 1.INTRODUCTION Does having access to direct international flights impact the attraction of foreign direct investment (FDI) and the strength of a local and regional economy? This paper attempts to answer this question through a two phased research project: 1) a literature review, and 2) a case study of a possible direct international flight from Cleveland Hopkins International Airport located in Northeast Ohio to Frankfurt, Germany. The choice of international flight was based on the existence of German companies in Northeast Ohio, particularly in the automotive industry, the region s potential to attract German companies, and the available connections between Frankfurt and other destinations in the world. Pervious pavement, also referred to as porous or permeable pavement, is actually a system consisting of an open graded surface layer of concrete, asphalt, or pavers, typically placed over an open graded aggregate base layer. The pavement structure has a large percentage of void spaces allowing water to permeate through the surface and base at a rate comparable to that of a grass lawn (Broviak). Strict stormwater control measures have recently been passed in states surrounding the Chesapeake s watershed, including Maryland, and many require a certain amount of green space or use of green technologies in construction. He was short and thin, with large bulging eyes, a beaklike nose, and pinched wrinkled features. A dark stubble covered his face. He starts of being described in uncomplimentary terms. Asher perceives him as being peculiar and foreign. You learned the store quickly, said Aryeh, I have learned more difficult things than this store ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 56. The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies The Walt Disney Company Understanding Monopolies Overview and History The Walt Disney Company is a major media and entertainment enterprise that is based in Burbank, California and operates in more than forty countries with a worldwide appeal. After going bankrupt with his first cartoon company Laugh O Gram in 1922 Walt Disney moved to Hollywood, California to start over (Campbell, Martin, Fabos 456). Walt and his brother Roy created the Disney Brothers Cartoon studio in 1923 and they signed a contract with M.J. Winkler to produce a series of animated comedies which became known as the Alice Comedies (Walt Disney). In 1928 they debuted Steamboat Willie, an animated film with synchronized sound that features the character Mickey Mouse who would go on to become the world known icon for the Walt Disney Corporation (Walt Disney). The following year the brothers replaced their partnership with the creation of four companies: Walt Disney Production, Ltd.; Walt Disney Enterprises; Liled Realty and Investment Company; and the Disney Film Recording Company (Walt Disney). From a struggling cartoon studio the company grew and expanded to include motion pictures, documentaries, and television programs. The continued successes enabled Walt Disney Productions to make an initial public stock offering in 1940 (Walt Disney). The Disney Empire continued to grow with the opening of its first theme park, Disneyland in 1955. Additional theme parks including Walt Disney World, Epcot, and its ... • 57. Formation Of Dipeptides And Polypeptides From Amino Acids Formation of dipeptides and polypeptides via amino acids Dipeptides and polypeptides Amino acids are the monomers of proteins, which means that proteins are just long chains of amino acids, that have been bonded together end to end. Amino acids can be used to form larger molecules to form larger molecules to form condensation reactions. When a condensation reaction occurs, a reaction between the amino group(of one amino acid) and the acid group (from another amino acid) will cause a covalent bond to form between those two amino acids, (this bond is also known as a peptide bond), the resulting reaction will form a much larger mad e from the two amino acids the molecule that is formed is known as a dipeptide molecule (a dipeptide molecule is a molecule consisting of two amino acids bonded by a peptide bond), because it is a condensation reaction a water molecule will also form. When more and more amino acids go through the condensation reaction, they will bond to the other amino acids via the peptide bonds; this will eventually cause the formation of a polypeptide. Primary structure of proteins We know that proteins are basically just amino acids bonded by peptide bonds which form a chain. However the function of protein is determined by the structure of that protein itself, we can determine the structure of an amino acid by observing what sequence the amino are in, each protein or polypeptide as its own unique sequence of amino acids, we refer ...
