preferences, and critics say that women tend to prioritize family over higher paying

that can also affect their decisions. A womans career selection defines her earning
potential, so limiting her professional opportunities also limits her income.
It is possible that the wage gap could narrow if a more substantial proportion of

available are in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, but

When interviewing Miss Simpson on November 01, 2017, I learned that fifty years
ago, Lockwood was a predominately African American neighborhood. It was a
neighborhood where neighbors would speak during encounters, participate in
engagements in the community, take walks around the block, entertain each other in
their homes, and watch after the children. Essentially, it was more than a
neighborhood. It was a community. Fast forward to 2017, things are different at first
sight. New houses that scream, Gentrification are being built on almost every block.
At first, they seem to be out of place as they stand in comparison to the older houses.
Houses that have witnessed more things than I could ever imagine. Houses that I
would soon learn to have occupied by multiple generations. Houses that had a story.
While none of the new houses I saw embodied any of the qualities that drew me to
admire the older houses, I felt this sense that they were the first step in this process
of transformation that was taking place in the Lockwood neighborhood. As a looked
up to saw the view of downtown and the sound of busy cars, I thought to myself, I
should have expected this to happen sooner or later.
Parallel to the older houses, the older residents in Lockwood have a story. A story
that illustrates the love for one community, even during rough times. I quickly
learned after conversing with Miss Simpson, her granddaughter, and Mr. Bell that
Lockwood to them is not just a neighborhood that is positioned perfectly next to
downtown Charlotte. It is a neighborhood that has always extended open arms to
outsiders, especially those who were not familiar with the area. I understood this to
be true as I sat on their porches to interview them with great enthusiasm and kindness.
While it might have taken some time to get used to, Lockwood nevertheless was a
community where anyone could feel at home very quickly. All it took was the
everyday genuine greeting from a neighbor. Walking down the streets of Lockwood,

the two ethnic groups, Tutsi and Hutu. The tension eventually broke out on April 7,
1994, when over 800,000 people were slaughtered in the span of three months.
Though many people would say this event had no compromise, the genocide
contributed to the unification of Rwandaand how it is today.
The Rwandan Genocide was an event that occurred twenty three years ago on April 7,
1994, which was caused by the previous ethnic tension of the Hutu and Tutsi people.
The tension began from the Belgians, Rwanda had recently been under the Belgian
administration in the colonial period. While under the Belgian rule, they favored the
Tutsi minority for their features such as their lighter skin and build. The Belgians
issued identification cards to differentiate the two groups creating an even bigger
division. This initiated ethnic tension between the two groups because the Tutsi
minority was treated differently and had economic advantages. The Tutsis as cattle
herders were often in a position of economic dominance to the soil tilling Hutus.
That is not to say that all Tutsis were wealthy and all Hutus were poor, but in many

Romans took the concept of personal hygiene to a different, and more grandiose
level; and by doing so established a unique practice which set Romeapart from any
