Medieval...
Between the back drop of the end of the Roman Empire and of closing of the Dark
Ages the Roman Catholic Church had rose to pre eminence to fill the governing
roles in medieval society by direct control or through influence. This influence had
grown to dominate nearly every walk of life of the time. With clergy the most literate
people of the time the nobility had to depend on them as counsel. During 450 1450
AD basic traditions of western culture in both art and music had formed. Through the
guidance of the Church sacred music, Gregorian chant had become the most common
in Europe.
A very important role of the church was as a patron of the arts. In music nearly all
composers and singers were priests within the churches and monasteries. Singing
had become to play a very important role within the Church. Inspired liturgical
music was incorporated into the Mass as Ordinary and Propers sung in Latin.
Women of the time were not allowed to sing in public places like a church unless
they were members of a convent. However, a notable woman composer of Gregorian
chant was Hildegard von Bigen O.S.B. Having lived her life as a Benedictine nun she
was very talented in many disciplines including medicine. But her compositions such
as Ordo Virtutum (Play of the Virtues) are significant in the history of sacred music.

The form of music is named after Pope Gregory I who initiated the collecting and

reign of Charlemagne in the ninth century Gregorian chant was the unified body of

3. Free Trade And Trade Agreements
Free Trade
Free trade is a policy in which the government does not interfere against imports or
impedes with exports by applying tariffs (Encyclopedia, 2015). Free trade is about
removing barriers like tariffs, quotas, and other restrictions. Tariffs are taxes that the
countries enforce on imported goods and services, they are set in place to make
trade harder. This ultimately causes the price of goods and services for consumers to
be more expensive. Quotas are a limited quantity countries put on imports and
exports. Barriers to trade is a government limitation on the amount of international
goods and services. Countries decide to put up barriers on trade for the sole purpose
of protecting their own economy and interests. The United States has free trade
agreements with 20 countries, including the North American Free Trade Agreement
(NAFTA), the Tran Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP), and the Transatlantic Trade
and Investment Partnership (T TIP). There are many advantages and disadvantages
with free trade agreements. The North American Free Trade Agreement was
implemented in 1994, it consists of three countries; Canada, Mexico, and the United
States. NAFTA is the largest free zone which sets the groundwork for a stronger
economic development as well as the raise in prosperity between this countries
(NAFTA, 2013). For the three countries in the agreement, NAFTA has removed
tariffs and non tariff barriers such as quotas, licensing and other limitations. Before it

4. Presidential vs. Parliamentary Political Systems Essay
Presidential vs. Parliamentary Political Systems
There are two main types of political systems, one being a presidential system and
the other being a parliamentary system. Both of them have their own benefits as well
as their own disadvantages. No political system can be perfect or can always have
stability, but shown in history there are successful countries that use either one. Also
there are countries that have failed with one of the two systems.
Firstly there is the presidential system. There are many characteristics to a
presidential system. The first main part of a presidential system is how the
executive is elected. The executive is a president who is elected to a fixed term. Also

The monarch is a figure head and does no decision making. The voters of a
parliamentary system elect parliament who then elect the prime minister and the
cabinet. The prime minister is normally the leader of the most popular party in
parliament. The PM even being the head of government is not as powerful as the
head of government in a presidential system. The parliament of the system withholds
the most power. They make or break any law. Compared to the separation of powers
as in a presidential system there is only a separation of functions. Each part of
government has its own function to perform, but there is no system of checks and
balances. An example of the overlapping of powers is the need of a vote of
confidence. A vote of confidence is proposed by a party and needs backing from
the other part of government. With no system of sorts there is more likely of
upheaval and change of rule. There is not as much stability in a parliamentary
system as there is in a presidential. Lastly there is no judicial rule as there is in a
presidential system. A parliamentary system has had success in the past but still is
seen as not as successful as a presidential system.
Most European countries have a parliamentary political system. Britain has a
parliamentary system. Britain s system starts at the voters who vote for Parliament.
Parliament then elects and can oust the executive branch, which is headed by a prime

Dr. Jorsch Dr. Van Tassel Fear and cruelty are the weapons of animals, not humanity,
and social injustices derive from fear the masked ego of one who has sustained
through power: white power. It is only fair to continue to talk about social injustice
by defining what is social justice. Social justice embodies a framework (and certainly
not limited to) a community, a united nation, equitable in standing together in belief
and acceptance of diversity; equality; freedom; and equal opportunity to income
and its privileges. Abraham Lincoln, the sixteenth president of the United States of
America proclaims that a house divided cannot stand. I believe President Lincoln
is correct with his statement, if the house is not endowed in a universal cause and

connects to social justice, if that same house is not socially just, separation will

7. Disadvantages of Business Process Outsourcing Essay
In the recent decade, Business Process Outsourcing (BPO) has become a usual
business phenomenon from a new business strategy in the bank industry around
the world. Banks are increasingly outsourcing more activities to third parties and
relying more heavily on vendors now more than ever before. (Deloitte, 2012) The
Swiss bank UBS is not an exception. Since UBS set up the UBS India Service
Centre in Hyderabad in 2006, parts of its back office and middle office functions
have been outsourced to lower cost places during the following years, such as India,
China, Philippine and Poland. Most recent news says that UBS will begin outsourcing
its fixed income trading platform to two technology groups in an attempt to save
costs. (Reuters, 2014)... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
BPO that is contracted outside a company s country is called offshore outsourcing
(Tas, J. Sunder, S. , 2004)
Offshore outsourcing represents one aspect of how globalization is occurring in the
current economies. Globalization is the interdependency of transportation,
distribution, communication, and economic networks across international borders.
(Gibson, Ivancevich, Donnelly, Konopaske, 2009) It means that the labor supply
market is globalized and that cross cultural management can become essential and
more important than ever before.
BPO is not simply moving jobs to a distant country and starting saving cost right
away. BPO in the banking industry requires bank to provide on site training, which
normally takes from three months to a full year. (Overby, 2003) The training is a
knowledge transfer process from one organization to another, which is necessary and
critical to make sure the work can be transferred from onshore to offshore people
smoothly. It s a significant stage of outsourcing implementation, which may
determine outsourcing will be a success or not.
Below case shows how the offshore outsourcing is occurring during the
implementation stage.
Team A is UBS investment banking operations located in UK. It is planed to be
offshore outsourced to an external company located in a foreign country. A team of
offshore workers came to UK and started to learn tasks sitting beside their onshore

Leonard has been working within his current department for almost 11 years now.
Very respected by others in his department, he was asked if he had thought about

when the opportunity was presented for Leonard to apply for the management

Corporation type proposes advantages and disadvantages to evaluate.
The corporate form contains its advantages. The Dictionary of Finance and

a U.S. state or by the federal government, and separate and distinct from the persons
who own it... it is regarded by the courts as an artificial person; it may own

advantages of the corporate form. It offers a limited liability. The owners can only
lose their own assets. It can also transfer ownership through the sales of the shares of
stock. If an owner dies, the company will not need to dissolve. This form provides
the opportunity to gain capital through expanded ownership, and to facilitate
investors to earn more income from the growth of the firm. This legal form gives
some advantages, but also some disadvantages.

10. What Is The Schlieffen Plan
This paper will examine and discuss the German Schlieffen Plan utilized during
World War I. The Schlieffen Plan was designed by Chief of the General Staff of the
German Army Alfred von Schlieffen, as a strategy for invading France, while also
holding off Russia. Schlieffen wanted the attack to be a swift and decisive strike to
ensure that France would capitulate quickly, allowing Germanyto send their forces on
the French front over to the Russian front, combining their armies into one force that
could then invade Russia. One of the main points of the strategy, was that Germany
would go through Belgiumand attack France where it was weaker, instead of the
Maginot Line, which was heavily fortified. The army would then sweep around and
take Paris.
11. Julius Caesar Analysis
The human element, the human flaw, and the human nobility those are the
reasons that Chess Matches are won or lost. William Shakespeare s play The
Tragedy of Julius Caesar is a great representation of how a character s nobility
could lead to the rising of a great leader or to his tragic downfall. Brutus had many
flaws such as being noble and righteous of Rome, while Caesar was full of
arrogance and ambition. Both characters traits caused their own destruction. Caesar
and Brutus were both ambitious, but in separate ways. Caesar wanted power and
glory at any cost, and Brutus wanted to see a better and magnificent Rome while
being honorable and fair. However, those traits would cause Brutus to be vulnerable
and would bring him a step closer to his own destruction. In William Shakespeare s
play The Tragedy of Julius Caesar. Brutus is illustrated as a tragic hero because he
reveals such flaws as being honorable which eventually led to his downfall and
tragic death. One of the main flaws that brings Brutus closer to his downfall is
when Brutus s honor gives him the idea of letting Antony live. Brutus doesn t see
the assassination of Antony as important as eliminating Caesar Since he is his main
target, the one who has power over Rome rather than Antony who is just a nobody.
Our course will seem too bloody, Caius Cassius, / To cut the head off and then hack
the limbs, / Like wrath in death and envy afterwards;/ For Antony is but a limb of

were to bring the economic disparity gaps closer and to eradicate poverty with

17. The Role of the Central Bank
Role of A Central Bank as Lender of Last Resort
Introduction
Nowadays, monetary and central bank policy become more and more important.
Besides, many references are regularly made to the function of central bank as lender
of last resort(LOLR). LOLR contributes a lot to solve the financial crises. As central
banks are independent from government, they seem to have strong priorities. In
modern society, with the growth of the global economy, central banks have been
playing especially important roles in finance systems of modern society(Goodhart

caused by widespread panic. Thus, it can prevent the entire economy from being

Only when a financial crisis happen will they use this life saving straw. This
phenomenon exits because if a institute borrows from a central bank, it means a

In the United Kingdom, the role of LOLR is acted by the Bank of England. In the
same way, this role is undertaken by the Bank of Japan in Japan and by the Swiss
National Bank in Switzerland. Similarly, inRussia, the role of LOLR is played by
the Central Bank of Russia.
When a financial institution is experiencing financial difficulties and is not able to

You will write an introduction that serves as an overview of the content of the paper,
providing background and cultural information about the setting of the book in which

Psalm 1 is a fitting introduction for the Book of Psalms in that it summarizes the two
ways open to mankind, the way of the righteous and the way of the wicked.
This psalm describes the blessed man who leads an untarnished and prosperous life in
accord with the Word of the Lord, and contrasts him with the ungodly who shall
perish.
Author: Since the book is a collection of many different psalms written over a long
time, there is not just one author for this collection. By far the most common
designation in the titles is Davidic, which may refer to David as the author of those
psalms. David s role as a musician in Saul s court (1Sam 16:14 23) as well as his
many experiences as a shepherd, a soldier, and a king make him a likely candidate

One hour away. Sloan, Iowa. Winna Vegas Casino. We like to say it s a fun way to

These are all statistics regarding to the negative aspect of gambling. Is there anything
positive about gambling? At this point one wouldn t think so.
Besides stating the fact that gambling puts money in the wrong hands and that the
chances of winning are not very good, Pathlights goes on to say that gambling
causes many other problems that are destroying America. Compulsive gamblers are
likely to have been married three or more times because of the problems gambling
brings home to the household. The suicide rate for spouses of compulsive gamblers
is one hundred fifty times higher than the national average. It is estimated that the
average compulsive gambler affects four to ten other people, especially the children.
Twenty five percent of compulsive gambler s kids show behavioral or adjustment
problems in school, use alcohol and other drugs, or are arrested (PATHLIGHTS).
Pathlights makes a strong argument defying gambling. Gambling seems to be an
impossible way to earn money and the money spent at casinos could be used for
programs that are clearly more important. Also, gambling is a downfall to society. It
causes family problems and affects the children of gamblers. Is there really a positive
side to gambling?
Gambling Is The Answer
One of the main reasons that Pathlights does not support gambling is because money
is not used in the right programs. America citizens want to see programs such

Discussion: The meaning of all men created equal according to the Founding Fathers
document is that human beings are naturally equal; that means everybody including
the slaves has the human right, equality, and freedom to everything in the country.
Concerning civil power and political balance, every American has the same rights as
everybody else. Unfortunately, some Americans have occasionally denied other
Americans of their lawful rights. For example, in the case of women or Black
Americans and their right to vote and to own property. The slaves and their freedom

23. Essay Health Economics
Cost benefit, cost effectiveness and cost utility analyses are forms of economic
evaluation which are useful in health economics for comparing costs and allocating
resources. Health economics is widely relevant to governments and the health sector
in implementation of new policy, as it concerns the allocation of resources in the
context of a limited budget, or scarcity . Economic evaluation is a potential tool for
setting priorities in health, though it is only one of many potential criteria, including
overall budget and public attitudes and wants. Economic evaluation is already in use
in some settings, such as in pharmaceutical company proposals for government
subsidisation, but there is room for expansion across the field of... Show more content

Changing factors such as aging populations and new technologies becoming available
are increasing expectations from people throughout the world, and decision makers
must make rational choices to maximise benefits to population health whilst working
with limited resources. Yothasamut et al (2009) summarise this by observing that
health care resources in every setting are always constrained, while unlimited demand
is observed . The best choices in the context of economics are the ones which
maximise utility (individual satisfaction through consumption of goods) and welfare,
the sum utility experienced by all individuals in society. Decision makers often have
to seek satisfactory rather than optimal solutions, also known as working with
bounded rationality (Simon 1957 in Williams et al 2008), as it is important to pursue
both efficiency and equity in the funding of health care. Therefore, it may be
unsuitable to fund the most cost effective option if it sacrifices the equal distribution
of benefits. Research in health economics can take a normative or positive approach
and this reflects the balance needed between cost control and equity when making
economic decisions. Positive economic research and analysis is concerned with how
things are and seeks to explain economic phenomena, whilst normative economic
research and analysis is concerned with how things ought to be and relies on value
24. Double Muscling
Selective breeding
Selective breeding is a process where animal and plant breeders select individuals
with desirable traits and breed them to produce offspring with these desirable traits,
which are determined by desirable alleles in the selected organism s genotype. This
produces offspring with favourable traits. (3) The animal that will be discussed is
the Belgian blue cattle. The Belgian blue cattle has the characteristic of what is
called double muscling. Double muscling is caused by the recessive mutation of the
myostatin gene, and naturally occurs. (12) The myostatin sequence present in
Belgian blue cattle is an 11 nucleotide deletion in the third exon which causes a
frame shift that eliminates virtually all of the mature, active region of the molecule
.(14) It prevents the control of muscle growth, and causes there to be more muscle
fibres. However, it is with sacrificing other important body functions such as
reproductions, and normal fat and bone deposition. (12) This creates cattle that have
up to 40% more muscle mass than other normal cattle. Most of the extra muscle is
lean meat. The Belgian blue cattle was created for the dairy and meat industry, but
now is generally for meat.(17) The Belgian ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net

There have been few financial crises in the United States. The Global Financial
Crisis of 2008 to 2009 was the most recent and before that was The Great
Depression of the 1930s. The Global Financial Crisis actually began in 2007 when
prices of homes tanked. It not only affected the U.S. but it also affected economies
overseas. The entire investment banking industry, some of the biggest insurance
companies, enterprises government used for mortgage lending, top mortgage lenders,
the largest savings and loan companies, and two of the largest commercial banks
were many of the financial sectors affected by the crisis. Banks stopped making loans,
share prices plunged throughout the world and most of the world plummeted into a
recession (The Financial Crisis of 2008: Year In Review 2008, 2009, para. 1).
Globalization of financial markets began after the Depression and World War II. After
the Great Depression and World War II there was much physical and economic ruin
in Europe, Asia and parts of Africa which allowed the U.S. to become a leader in
the world financial system. Top world leaders like France, Germany, Britain and
Japan were economically and financially unstable. The U.S. was the only stable
capitalist country which means it was capable of determining the terms of a new
world economic order ( The 2008 World Economic Crisis: Global Shifts and

27. Postmodern Deconstructionism In Alice Walker s Everyday
Use
No matter what age or generation, people live in a world filled with opposition and
conflict. Though this sounds harsh and unforgiving, this description is completely
and utterly accurate. In society, people run into all sorts of oppositions without
realizing it at all. For example, a person could walk into a darkened room and flip
on the light without stopping to ponder the conflict between light and dark . These
examples in our daily lives drones on and on from the difference between hot and
cold water to the difference between your phone when it is on or off. Though these
types of oppositions seem mundane to the average person, to a deconstructionist
these distinct concepts are imperative in deconstructing a text. When people describe
deconstructing a text, they are referring to the postmodern deconstructionism which
focuses mainly on these oppositions and the type of relationship they share. When
referring to these oppositions, a deconstructionist uses the word binary which can be
found in literature of all types and through all sorts of literary interpretations. Alice
Walker s Everyday Use is no exception to this concept with its story focusing on
lifestyle and heritage differences displayed between the main characters. Though one
can interpret Everyday Use as a story presenting the two binary aspects of a
traditional, heritage based, yet impoverished lifestyle and an affluent, modern, yet
forward thinking lifestyle as completely opposing concepts, one can

Introduction This term paper focuses on China Taiwan relations in terms of One
China policy and the Taiwan question. The paper will provide an overview of the
historical background of Beijing Taipei relations and its ties with the United States.
From an international relations perspective, the Taiwan Strait, one of the most likely
conflict zones in the Asia Pacific region, has been dubbed the Balkan Peninsula of the
East. The status of Taiwan has been one of the most intricate issues in international
relations arena for the past decades. The Taiwan question is essentially an extension
of the two Chinas problem, which creates a dilemma for accommodating the
existence of Taiwan under the vague concept of the one China policy (Hsieh, P.,
2009). The Taiwan issue has been regarded as the most sensitive question between
China and the United States. Although China U.S. relations have made significant
progress, the Taiwan issue concerns Chinese and American decision makers for many
years. The Taiwan question has been at the center of Chinese foreign policy ever
since the founding of the PRC. Normally understood as a question of state
sovereignty, territorial integrity and vital national interest, the Taiwan question can be
discussed at four levels. First of all, at the domestic level, the question is one of state
legitimacy that concerns much of the rationale for the communist leadership in
China. Secondly, at the cross straits level, it concerns the enduring historic

32. Examples Of Impulse In Romeo And Juliet
Romeo and Juliet Essay
I think that the romantic impulse is in all of us and that sometimes we live it for a
short time, but it s not part of a sensible way of living. It s a heroic path and it
generally ends dangerously. I treasure it in the sense that I believe it s a path of great
courage. It can also be the path of the foolhardy and the compulsive (Champion). Jane
Champion believes that the compulsive and the foolhardy shouldn t follow the
impulse of love as it is dangerous. Romeo of Shakespeare s Romeo and Juliet is
both compulsive and foolhardy yet he still chooses to impulsively follow the path of
love. This following of impulse causes a large amount of misfortune for him and the
people around. He shows this impulse in various way the first being falling in love
with Juliet, then murdering Tybalt being the second and committing suicide in a very
untimely moment. It is these three moments which show how a widely discussed
theme in Romeo and Juliet is impulse and how impulse leads to misfortune. ... Show

33. Difference Between Cruel And Unusual Punishment
Capital Punishment: Is it cruel and unusual Punishment and is it Applied Equally?
Throughout time, it appears that the best way society has punish death is through the
killing of the killer. This is also mentioned in the Bible several times as an eye for an
eye . In our current time, things have not changed much; revenge for murder is still
strong. However, in the U.S., repaying death through death is done through the legal
system. This is what is known as capital punishment.
Ever since capital punishment was initiated, there have been many problems in terms
of its continuality. Is the death penalty constitutional? This has been a question that
Supreme Courts Justices have wrestled with for a really long time. The main
constitutional question in terms of capital punishment is found in the Eight
Amendment, which pretty much talks about the concept of cruel and unusual

Throughout history in the U.S., many civil rights leaders and others have attempted
to argue about the cruelty of capital punishment, yet it s interesting to note that it s
still. This issue is so controversial that the states themselves have to allowed to decide
if capital punishment is constitutional or not. The state of Illinois, for example, has
banned capital punishment, mainly because of concerns that innocent people are
being lethally injected for crimes they never committed. There is a great concern that
innocent people are being put to death. But Rehnquist, during the 1980s, never
believed that presumed innocence should stand on the way of capital punishment,
especially if little technical knowledge of the defendant was available. This stands
true today, especially in light of use of DNA testing to prove criminality. However, if
one were to apply Marshall s excessive force argument, one could argue that capital

The hospitality and tourism industry is the largest and fastest growing industry in the
world. The hotel business provides career opportunities to associates who help make
reservations, greet, assist, and serve guests. Approximately 70% of the American and
Canadian economies are engaged in service industries. However, September 11
showed the fragility of this industry, that cost the industry much damage. The Hotel
Industry income is affected by real life events because negative outcomes occur, such
as less guests stay at the hotel, problems with employees, and hotel income drops
dramatically.
On the September 11, 2001, the hotel industry had a dramatic change. Every thing
went down from that day. On this day, Islamist extremists hijacked four planes that
were flying above the US. Two of them were flown into the twin towers of the World

killed, including emergency workers and firefighters who went into the building to
help people. Another was crashed into the Pentagon, the top military building in the
capital city, Washington DC. The fourth hijacked plane, United Airlines Flight 93,
crashed into a field.
Another event, that affected the hospitality Industry, the terrorist attack in Mumbai,
India. There were ten Pakistani men associated with the terror group Lashkar e

Canada as well took action. They decided to ban the pit bulldogs in their province in

He uses feelings and images of death to emphasize the lack of time on earth and to
coerce his mistress into fulfilling his sexual desires before that time runs out. The
tone of the final stanza reveals the speaker s feelings of hopelessness and longing for
sexual enjoyment; he almost appears desperate. After grimly describing the reality of
death, the speaker attempts to, once again, conceal his true emotions with the use of

Unlike the poem To His Coy Mistress where love only refers to outward

spiritual and emotional aspects of love. The speaker seems much more reasonable
and understandable with respect to the meaning of love. Although melancholic, the
tone in the first three stanzas shows the rationality of the speaker as he implores his
love to, .. .make no noise,/No tear floods. .. (5 6) during their period of short

42. The Representational Theory Of Mind
The Representational Theory of Mind proposes that we, as both physiological and
mental beings, are systems which operate based on symbols and interpretations of the
meanings of such symbols rather than beings which operate just on physiological
processes (chemical reactions and biological processes). It offers that humans and
their Minds are computing machines, mental software (the Mind) which runs on
physical hardware (the body). It suggests, too, that we are computing machines
functioning as something other than a computing machine, just as every other
machine does. Many are disconcerted by the idea that humans and Minds can be
described as systems which operate based on interpretations of symbols, much like
machines, computers, and robots: things that we have created yet do not think of as
being thinking, themselves. We, as human beings, are comforted in the notion that
we are born into this world with a fully capable Mind, a soul or spirit, and are,
thereafter, free to choose our fate as we will. Although it seems plausible that we are
born with Mind, I cannot subscribe to such a simplistic version of thinking about our
true capacity for affecting outcome. RTM emphasizes the importance of language in
the Mind s ability to create, recognize, and interpret symbols, the main process by
which mental representations and, therefore, mental states, are created. Mental states
are realized, more specifically, in that the Mind encounters a series of symbols
pertaining to a
43. Power Imbalance During The Mediation
3.Reasoning:
1.Power imbalance
The theme of power imbalance was prevalent throughout the mediation, where
various factors made the experience uneasy and unbalanced. One particularly relevant
factor was emotions as a driver of conflict. Since Clarrie was in an emotional state, it
created a power imbalance between himself and the bank, making him more
vulnerable to an unequitable agreement. In my roleplay, Clarrie, the farm owner, had
lost his spouse over the past year. Thus, it follows that the disputant representing
Clarrie was more emotionally invested in getting the best resolution for her client
throughout the mediation and focused on her own position. As the mediator, I
persuaded both parties to focus on their mutual interests, ... Show more content on

Regarding facilitative mediation, the Mediator Standards Board (MSB) advises
mediators to be neutral. Neutrality does not mean a dissuasion from intervening
between negotiating parties, but rather to be impartial and supportive of the parties
ability to reach an agreement. Although facultative mediation has its advantages,
to be critical power imbalance Astor suggests power imbalance is a disadvantage
of facultative mediation, especially since mediators may not be aware of how to
address it. I can personally relate to the element of unknowing, as despite being able
to recognize this power imbalance, I did not possess the skills to intervene in order
to counter them. Thus, I agree with Cobb et al. s contention that mediators should
know how to act in mediations with power imbalances, in order to combat issues of
reinforcing dominant power narrative in mediations, opposed to a platform where
diverse voices are heard equally.
2. Mediator Neutrality
Prior to the mediation, I expected mediator neutrality to be easily achieved, based on
the my thorough understanding of the theory itself. However, it was more difficult in
practice compared to my presumptions. To elaborate, mediation neutrality is highly
contentious in terms of definition. The concept is similar to an umbrella that consists
of a variety of concepts. Taylor theorizes neutrality as the mediator s equality in
giving each disputant their attention. Neutrality does not have one specific,
44. Sandwich Generation Thesis
More and more people are delaying marriage and child rearing. Over 20 million
Americans are caught between their aging parents and young children. Adults who
are part of the Sandwich Generation are adults who have a parent that is living and
65 years old or older, but they are also raising a child under the age of 18. Being apart
of the Sandwich Generation can be very stressful. Many young adults are starting to
delay marriage. The percentage of married people in their 20s has dropped
tremendously from 2000 to 2006. Young adults are getting married just to get married
or because they have a child involved. Being in the Sandwich Generation tends to
affect person s relationship with their spouse and others. It can cause many arguments
45. US Secret Service Case Study
Introduction
The U.S Secret Service is among the constituents of the department of Homeland
Security. It was originally part U.S Department of Treasury (Reese, 2009). The
agency was mainly formed to fight the production of counterfeit money which had
affected nearly a third of the country s population. Its responsibilities eventually
increased after financial crimes increased and political leaders became a target for
assassination. The agency constitutes of two sections namely: the special agent and
the uniformed sections. The main duty of the uniformed section is to guard and
protect the white house and make sure its residents are safe and secures. Among
them are the president s and vice president s family, other foreign dignitaries on state

These include: investigative and protective missions
Investigative mission
At the end of World War II, currency counterfeiting activities began. This led to the
launching of the secret service so as to deal with these counterfeiting activities. The
nation s infrastructure was later on attacked when these illegal activities expanded
more crimes, among counterfeiting, such as commercial, personality theft and
computer based fraud and attacks. These investigations are done with the help of
forensic personnel who scrutinizes evidence (Reese, 2009).
Protection
Its protective mission began in the 1890 s when assassination became a national
threat, after the president was assassinated. It ensures that the government officials of
the high rank and their immediate members of their relations are protected. This
extended to the presidential political candidates and those elected. The U S secret
service secured surroundings using specialized resources to decrease the dangers and
susceptibilities. These resources among others included counter sniper, emergency

46. Feminism In The Scarlett Letter
Feminism in the Scarlet Letter According to Merriam Webster Dictionary the word
feminism means the theory of the political, economic, and social equality of the sexes
. In a way the Scarlett Letter, written by Nathaniel Hawthorne, portrays its main
protagonist, Hester Prynne, as a poster child for early feminism. Throughout the story
Hester is slandered and shunned upon about committing the sin of adultery. As the
story continues we see the character of Hester evolve from a timid, shameful human
being into a confident, strong woman. With Hester facing the hardships of making a
living for herself, singlehandedly raising a child, and changing Puritansocial norms
one can conclude that the Scarlett Letter is an early piece of feministic literature. As
a women in early American society, women usually didn t play the role of the
breadwinner in the household, but Hester was an exception. Hester made quite a
name for herself in the Massachusetts Bay Colony, for her elegant work she produces
with a needle and a thread.
Even though, Hester was the outcast of the town, her work was still seen on the
ruff of the Governor; military men wore it on their scarfs, and the minister on his
band; it decked the baby s little cap; it was shut up, to be mildewed and moulder
away, in the coffins of the dead. (Hawthorne 124). Hester s perseverance and work
ethic helped her financially get by and provide from her family, during a time where
women were even less accounted for.
Hester did what even possible to make sure her family was able to survive, she put
in as many hours as she saw fit to occupy with her needle (Hawthorne 124). Clearly
Hester has pushed the social barriers that society as imprisoned her in for years and
shattered them into pieces by making a living for herself, in a society where it is
highly unlikely for a women of her status to accomplish, especially for a person
who has an reputation like hers. Day after day, Hester is reminded of the reason of
her exile from her previous, everyday life. Hester was an adulteress, and with that sin
came a child. Singlehandedly, Hester had to raise this child, without a any moral,
financial support. Often in times breaking down into tears talking to the heavens

All Blacks. The young men from his rugby club arranged themselves into a semi
circle two rows deep of about eight per row, and behind them a further twenty or so
male and female, family members and friends. Haka is a term which refers to
dancing and chanting as either a celebration or war dance or both. Men traditionally
performed the haka with feet, hands, legs, voice, eyes and tongue. Women would
accompany the men with their voices and some body movements with hand trills that
mesmerize, eyes that protrude, and head tilted to the side. In contemporary haka

about three hours to heat the stones. When the stones where white hot they were
transferred to the bottom of the pit and a damp sack was laid on the rocks and the
wire baskets were placed on top of the damp sack. More sacks were put on top of
the baskets and the whole lot was quickly covered in soil to prevent the stones

kumara, potato, pumpkin, cabbage and fresh salads. A dessert of steam pudding
was also cooked in the hangi. After three and a half hours the hangi was uncovered

while the women prepared the food. A short prayer thanking the creator for the

48. Importance Of Australian Identity In The Play Summer Of...
Good morning everyone. I am extremely privileged today to be permitted the
opportunity to address the Archaeological Institute for the Preservation of Cultural
Heritage concerning the time capsule discovered and the significance of the articles
to our culture. The paraphernalia contained within the time capsule included the play
Summer of the Seventeenth Doll , by Ray Lawler, which can be used to demonstrate
aspects of the Australian identity which are unique to this country and are ultimately
timeless. The play follows the lives of various Australian figures, including Northern
Queensland cane cutters and Carlton barmaids, during the lay off season as well as
the many aspects of conflict that occur. The Australian identity presented by this play
is reinforced through a second article found within the time capsule, a review of the
play, A Clear eyed Revival for the 21st century , written by John McCallum. The play
has new things to say to each generation about the Australian character and it s
because of this reason that the play resonated with audiences then and now. Through
these artefacts, three primary aspects of the Australian identity have been developed;
masculinity, mateship, and Australian colloquialism. These characteristics form the
basis of the Australian identity, demonstrating its immutability and exhibiting the
rituals and values for which Australiais known for.
The metaphor of masculinity is one of the main attributes of Australian identity

49. Blackberry Picking Seamus Heaney
Blackberry Picking by Seamus Heany is a poem which explores many different
meanings about greed, growing up, how we struggle in life and how pleasure can be
taken away from us very quickly. He would attempt to hold onto the sensations by
hoarding large amounts of the fruit, but each time it would inevitably rot. This
reflects how it is impossible to hold onto the best experiences forever. Heaney writes
retrospectively about his life, with hindsight, about the times he as a child, would go
blackberry picking at a particular time every year. It contrasts pleasure and
disappointment when talking about the beauty of nature at the beginning of the
poem, then goes on to show how in the end, each and every single one of the
marvellous berries... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Late August given heavy rain and sun tells us that this isn t a one off event, the rain
and sun is a perfect envirnomental condition for the blackberries to ripen. At first
just one, a glossy purple clot. The glossy berries carry a richness in tase, clot
highlights a soft juiciness of sensual pleasure for young, excited hope. Hard as a knot
compares with the first berry, clot and knot is one of the two rhymes, this
emphasises the difference of the berries. And that hunger tells us that they had a
desire to pick every berry in sight. Milk cans, pea tins, jam jars. This indicates that
the children were so eager to collect berries that they just grabbed whatever they
could. Along with their eagerness, it also suggests a rural environment, the milk
would have came from cows and the jam would be home made. Briars scratched
and wet grass bleached our boots, even such harsh conditions wouldn t stop the
children going out berry hunting. Round hayfields, cornfields, potato drills listing
all of the places they have been helps emphasise their desire. Peppered suggests that
they are getting pricked by the berries but even that doesn t bother them. We
hoarded the fresh berries indicates a hope to keep them young and beautiful, as if it
s a precious item. The word stinking reinforces how disgusting it is, especially since
it was referred to as wine. Sweet flesh would turn sour tells us that evil is taking over
good as the berries turn replusive. This relates to the theme of nature, reinforcing how
all good things must come to an
50. Contrasting Theories on the Extinction of Dinosaurs Essay...
So what killed the dinosaurs? Without having any background education in science it
is hard for the general public to comprehend such matters and they rely on the
knowledge of the scientists in this field. Although there has been much research on
the subject nobody has come up with a conclusive answer. And we are left to read the
countless articles, all having their own opinions as to the mass extinction. One such
theory is that a shift in the solar system could have caused the mass destruction.
According to an article published in Nature magazine,
A bizarre wobble 65 million years ago, perturbing the orbits of Mars, Earth and
Mercury, may have caused the demise of the dinosaurs, new models of the Solar
System suggest.

In this article other ideas are mentioned about what came after the meteorite hit,
Some have proposed that this hot debris would have ignited vegetation wherever it
fell to earth. Others believe a gigantic fireball, rising over Chicxulub, would have
spread hot material over the planet.
This researcher proposes that the dinosaurs did not die of heat, in fact she thinks the
opposite, that they froze to death instead. Both articles have the same idea about a
meteorite hitting the earth yet there is no concrete evidence as to what caused the
meteorite to strike and what it did when it got here.
Illustrated in an article, also featured in Nature magazine, is the competition between
scientists to find any knowledge leading to an answer and their differing views on
the subject. Again the theory of debris blocking sunlight and stopping photosynthesis
is brought up but it is apparent that it is only one view in a sea of many.
A minority disputes this theory, arguing that other events such as volcanic eruptions,
sea level changes or a series of impacts were to blame for the spectacular loss of
species that occurred at the transition between the Cretaceous and Tertiary periods...
The article explains the consequences of their efforts to drill into the Chicxulub
crater in Mexico, the site where the asteroid supposedly struck. There was a lot of
arguments as to which scientist would take the core section to analyze. In the end

JAPANESE EXPANSION INTO CHINA DURING AND AFTER WW1 AND
JAPANS GAINS FROM THE LEAGUE OF NATIONS, 1914 1923
1/ Define the period of Imperialism that you will be assessing and give a clear
outline of the conflict, its causes and its particular characteristics. Japanese
Imperialism first began in 1868 after the appointment of the 16 year old boy
Emperor, Meiji and the beginning of Japan s famous period of modernisation, the
Meiji Restoration. This period saw the first half of the reign of the Empire of Japan,
and significant changes to the structure, politics, economy, foreign relations and
military of the country. Additionally, The Meiji Periodwitnessed the end of Japanese
feudalism and the beginning of their modernisation. After the period concluded,
the Japanese Empire remained prominent and did so till 1947. Emperor Meiji s
death came two years prior to the beginning of World War I which would see
significant involvement from the Japanese Empire. The war and its aftermath
(1914 23) was the first major era where the Empire of Japan was involved after the
end of the Meiji era. Due to an alliance with the British, Japan entered WW1 as
enemies with Germany. As a result of this rivalry with the Germans, Japan s first
actions in the war were to invade China and capture the German possessions in China.
The Germans had control of the Kiaochow Bay and the railway lines and mining
locations of the Shandong Province. After the ignoring of an ultimatum which would

52. The Pros And Cons Of General Intelligence Tests
It is notable to mention that the individual s attainment measured by general
intelligence tests are indeed broader and the products of less formal and usually less
recent learning experiences compared to the ones measured by standardized
achievement tests (Aiken, 2003c). Cohen et al. (2013b) regarded that the primary
purpose for this kind of measure is that it focuses on the testtaker s level of
comprehension in the different subject matters. These types of tests are commonly
structured to include several subject areas divided into subtests and are most typically
identified as test batteries. Interestingly, achievement tests often serve as better
predictors of school ratings than tests of intelligence or special abilities. This does not
connote, however, that test of achievement in a specific subject can entirely replace
tests of intelligence and special abilities. The accomplishments or achievements
determined by general intelligence tests are usually extensive and formed by less
formal and probably less recent learning experiences than those measured by
standardized tests of achievement. Moreover, for the reason that achievement tests
usually evaluate knowledge of information that has been methodically taught, scores
on these tests are more influenced by coaching than scores on intelligence tests.
There are a number of purposes carried out by achievement tests, the basic one is to
determine how much an individual know about certain topics or how well one can
perform

Great Gatsby Love comes in many forms. For instance, there is love for your
family, games, food, and other things. In the book, The Great Gatsby, by F. Scott
Fitzgerald, the protagonist, Gatsby, goes through his life trying to become rich, so
he can be with Daisy, the girl that he loves. Gatsby goes through great lengths to try
to achieve this goal. Whether it be selling bootlegged liquor or other illegal
business or trying to get her to have an affair and leave with him. The truth is that
Gatsby doesn t actually really love Daisy, but her social status and wealth is
something that he is after. An instance where we see how Gatsby really loves Daisy
for her status is during the scene in which he is about to kiss her for the first time....

Gatsby, however, is stern on his belief that you can. His main reason for wanting to
relive the past is Daisy. If he is able to relive the past, he would have Daisy with
him, which is what he is trying to do. He wants to go back to a time where Daisy
had chosen him over all the other guys when they first met. Daisy was also the one
that, he felt, was his ticket to a higher social class and wealth. He spent many years
trying to get up to that point, so now that he is finally there he wants to go back to
the time when he was the one that was chosen. He wants to relive the past, because
he has a better chance at securing his status with Daisy now that he has some
wealth. This shows that Gatsby is seeing Daisy as a trophy more than as a lover.
He has gained wealth, so now he wants to go back and claim Daisy to secure that
wealth and secure his status. Gatsby has created an illusion of Daisy in which she
is unable to live up to. And throughout the story Gatsby tries to catch Daisy s
attention by making his presence known by through large, extravagant parties. He
also buys a home that is right across from Daisy s. Throughout the story, it seems
that Gatsby is not truly in love with Daisy. Since the beginning, he was interested in
her for her wealth and status. And when he got rich, he centered his life on her. It
seems as though Gatsby was more obsessed with her and the illusion he created of
her. In the end, Gatsby s love for Daisy was nothing more than an
