Research Paper On Patrick Henry
Patrick Henry was and still is a very important man in history. He spoke some of the most famous
lines in history. He was an important part of history for many reasons. Patrick was born on May
29, 1736 in Studley, Virginia. He was best known for his speech Give me liberty or give me
death . When he was younger he tried growing tobacco but failed trying after three years. So he
started studying law, he became a lawyer in 1770 because he was fascinated by politics, and
everything in general about law. He became a famous lawyer because of the Parson s case .
Before he became a famous lawyer he went to trials in a nearby court. He soon came to marry a
lady named Sarah Shelton, they got married in 1754 but their marriage came to an end because
she died in 1775. He married a lady named Dorethea Dandridge, between her and sarah they had
17 children. Patrick was a lawyer, patriot, orator, and a willing participant in virtually every
aspect of founding america. He was also in the sons and daughters of liberty. He was an
outspoken opponent of the Stamp and Townshend Acts levied by England, he stirred the seeds of
discord with his famous Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death speech to the VirginiaAssembly in
1775. Henry served a role in the overthrow of the royally appointed Virginia leadership and was
elected governor multiple times. Although he opposed the formation of the U.S. Constitution as a
threat to the liberties of the people and the rights of the states, his criticisms

How Language Can Help Your Child Learn Sight Words

How to Use Sign Language to Help Your Child Learn Sight Words
Sign language has many beneficial uses for young children. Not only are you teaching your child a
way to communicate other than talking, but you can also teach them other things. I have found that
using sign language to teach sight words very beneficial. This project is perfect for those parents
who have already started teaching their toddler sign language. Your toddler will first need to have
the alphabet basics of sign language down packed, before moving on to sight words. The first
thing that you will need to do is create a list of sight words. You can purchase sight wordflashcards
from your local Walgreens store, or even online at Walgreens.com. Once you have your flashcards
you can start with the first word.
You can start by picking the first word that you will work with for the week. Show your child
how to sign that first word. When you show them the way to make the word with their hands
you can also show them the card. This should be your project of the first week. Stick with one
word for at least a few weeks. Remember you don t want to be in any hurry to teach your child
each words. Allow them to take their time and slowly learn their sign language sight words. Not
only will you be helping them get started on the way to reading, with their eyes, but they will also
be learning how to better communicate with their hands.
Helping them to learn to sign with their hands is a great way to keep learning

Motherhood In The 1800 s
As the 1800 s progressed, women developed an increased awareness of their lack of rights in
society. Even though they were productive members the society, women were not allowed to vote
or have an input in the government (Marshall). Men had compelled [women] to submit to laws, in
the formation of which [they] had no choice (The Declaration of Sentiments). Thus, women were
not treated equally to men and they had no control over this. Women also had the legal status of a
minor, meaning they could not own property or make many of their own decisions. Motherhood
developed into the cult of domesticity, which was a part of the concept of members of society
having different spheres of influence. A womans sphere was solely in the house so... Show more

Sarah and Angelina Grimke were two sisters who lived in the south, but joined the abolition
movement regardless (Kendall 35). The abolition movement was closely linked to the women s
rights movement because many saw the cult of domesticity as a form of slavery (Marshall). The
Grimkes attended and spoke at a series of lectures in 1837 and 1838. Their speeches were later
published as Letters on the Equality of the Sexes and the Condition of Woman (Kendall 37). In one
letter to her sister, Sarah is quoted to have said all I ask of our brethren is, that they will take their
feet from off our necks and permit us to stand upright on the ground which God designed us to
occupy (Kendall 36). In this, Grimke highlights the oppression felt by women in the time period
and the importance of allowing women to have a voice. Another activist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton
also felt it was essential for men to have no more rights or power than women. She coined the
motto, men, their rights and nothing more: women, their rights and nothing less, (Kendall 42)
meaning that men should have nothing more than women, but women are not above men either.
Cady Stanton also created the Seneca Falls Convention with a friend, Lucretia Mott. After meeting
at a convention for abolitionism in England, the two women decided to create a convention

Essay on Film Trailer Portfolio
Film Trailer Portfolio
When the task of creating a film trailer was first put to us, I had several ideas for the movie s
context. The first was of a movie in the action genre that dealt with revenge, whilst the other two
were in the horror genre. The horror genre appealed to me more, as a low budget film can still have
the desired effect by use of different filming techniques, and I wanted to depend more on a
psychological aspect. My first idea was to do a film about a poltergeist. I had watched several
films such as Poltergeist , but wanted to create a film that relied less on visual effects, something
that leant towards the style of Albert Hitchcock, who is still seen today as the Master of ... Show

I purchased the Exorcist DVD, which featured a making of documentary. Here I learned of
Friedkin s strict attention to detail, and also uncovered some of his secrets that made the film so
effective. The film features two main techniques throughout the film that I immediately thought
about adding to my own film, those being the use of lighting and sound. The film moves from
very bright light scenes, such as the films opening in the Middle East, to the darkness of
Georgetown (the films setting), or from the clean and well lit living room of the house, to the
black and gloomy mist of the girl s bedroom. Why?
The sound was used similarly, from eerily quiet to sudden loudness, one scene that uses this is the
sharp cut from the Priest s gentle dream of his mother, to the piercing scream of the little girl. Why
The use of restful music as the main soundtrack in The Exorcist added to the loud and quiet
technique Friedkin used, to create the sense that everything is calm. I myself began my trailer using
this technique, with some gentle music, so that when things begin to go wrong, the impact is more
substantial.
The voice that was created for the demon in this film was dubbed in synch after the scenes had
been shot. I used this technique to dub in the voice of the priest in my trailer, the line I dare not
say was recorded by microphone input

Third-Degree Assault
Sometimes, arguments between people in Greeley, and throughout Colorado, may become physical.
Depending on the circumstances, those involved in physical confrontations with others may be
charged with assault. A serious criminal offense, being convicted of this crime could carry severe
penalties with lasting implications.
Colorado state law establishes three variations of assault offenses third degree, second degree and
first degree assault. Each of these charges has differing levels of severity and carry different
penalties for a conviction.
Third degree assault
The least severe of the assault variations is assault in the third degree. According to the Boulder
County Bar Association, people may be accused of third degree assault if they knowingly,
negligently or recklessly cause others to suffer injuries using deadly weapons. Additionally,
causing a law enforcement officer, firefighter or emergency medical service worker to come into
contact with certain bodily or hazardous fluids may also qualify as third degree assault.
Under most circumstances, third degree assault is a class one misdemeanor. As an extraordinary
risk crime, people may be subject to enhanced penalties if convicted of this crime. Colorado state
law stipulates that those ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Intentionally injuring others, and deliberately or recklessly injuring others with a deadly weapon
typically constitutes this level of offense. Giving others drugs or other substances without their
consent to mentally or physically impair them is also considered second degree assault. So too is
purposely injuring law enforcement officers or firefighters while preventing them from executing
their lawful duties. People who are legally being held in jail or prison and use violent force against
detention facility employees, law enforcement officers, firefighters, court officers or judges may
also be charged with second degree

increase market size * Targeting new segments will help understand the other market segments
better which would help the firm with better experience in the future in case they tend to market
newer products. * Targeting audience in different areas will help the businessgrow geographically
and thus make the brand name expand
Disadvantages
* The cost of expanding to newer geographies could be more than the investment * Targeting
different segments could mean create different positioning strategies for each segment. This could
lead to confused positioning among the customers * Creating more lines and products would
increase the complexity, with great number of SKU s the managing of the SKU s could be an even
greater problem
C. Undertaking Brand promotion strategies
Lego should try to promote the brand more aggressively to coax the customer preferences towards
Lego toys.
Some of the Brand promotion strategies adopted could be as follows: * Open a chain of their own
Lego stores with play areas * Try to organise Lego construction competitions
Advantages
* This would help the loyalists bond with the brand in a better manner * It would help Lego brand
to be spread extensively * It would help understand the customer

Media In Pop Culture
The world today is full of information, that ranges from the smallest chip of a phone or the
monstrous screen of a football stadium. It can take the form of anything to grasp people s attention.
Dating back to the 1920s, the word media has been introduced due to the golden age of American
society. Introducing radios and bulky TV s, people in the United States started to turn their head to
these technologies. Eventually, people worldwide are influenced by how much these technologies
can shape their life. However, companies, schools, brands and other forms of businesses began to

The City Of Branson s Fiscal Year Runs
Budget Process Goals
The City of Branson s fiscal year runs January 1 through December 31. Typically, the budget
preparation process begins in mid July when budget documents and instructions are distributed by
the Finance Department to the each city department. The various departments have approximately
three weeks to assess any budget goals, capital and personnel requests, and to complete projections
for the current fiscal year. By mid August, the Finance Department completes a preliminary review
of the departments budget, personnel and capital requests. The City Administrator then meets with
the Finance Director to review any requests, and schedules one on one meetings with each
department head.
As the first organization in Missouri to implement Priority Based Budgeting, prior to their
administrative review each department head is encouraged to perform a review of programs
offered by their department and to establish what programs are not meeting the results identified by
the board. The purpose of this process is to allow for reallocation of resources to programs that are
determined to need more funding, in place of simply incrementally increasing the departmental line
item budget. Aside from simply eliminating the programs that are not achieving desired results, the
directors are encouraged to develop solutions to how the identified programs may perform more
efficiently. Examples include identifying programs that may be:

Essay on Isolation in Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio
Isolation in Winesburg, Ohio
Winesburg, Ohio is a story of lost or nonexistent connections with other human beings. Every
character throughout the text has a want, a need, to connect with someone or something. Each
individual faces a life of isolation. In most cases the solitary nature of their lives is self inflicted.
This self punishment seems to be the outcome of a deeply personal hatred towards the characters
perceived differences with the rest of the Winesburg population. This is the fact that elevates
Winesburg, Ohio above the rest. It is the fact that every man hides a part of himself from the eyes
of others.
The hunger was earliest demonstrated in the short story Hands. In this episode the ... Show more

Each character seems to deteriorate into a simply physical being with no with no living soul left.
This is best stated in the words of Irving Howe. He wrote, The grotesques rot because they are
unused, their energies deprived of outlet, and their instincts curdled in isolation (Howe). This rotting
effect is evident in several other characters; however, it can be most strongly noticed within
Elizabeth Willard.
Elizabeth Willard, the mother of George Willard, was a wild girl with many dreams. One of her
most prevalent was to become a great actress, and work in a traveling company much like those
that visited and passed through Winesburg. Upon marrying Tom Willard, Elizabeth s world
changed drastically. It seemed her fiery spirit had been broken. No longer did she chase her
dreams. They were traded instead to become a maid of sorts to her inherited business. Within her
life there was but one joy left and that was Elizabeth s only son, George. Much like his mother
was, George is a dreamer. He aspired to become a writer rather than the financial success his
father pushes him to be. This was Elizabeth s single hope for her son. Yet in her own eyes she
was a failure, a broken old woman, and could not find the strength to express these strong feelings
to her son. It was the self perceived defeat that prevented Elizabeth from speaking. Like Wing
Biddlebaum and the remaining group of outcasts she hid herself away. In essence,

Examples Of Satire In The Butter Battle Book
Satire of The Butter Battle Book.
Dr. Seuss, an amazing writer who showed the world of satire and literature to all ages. Books
such as The Lorax, The Foot book and The Butter Battle Book are perfect examples of that.
Seuss, a man known for his creative vision and use of words, made these books a satire gold
mine! We already know about his rhymes but Seuss was also extremely good at using
exaggeration. Don t forget his amazing use of onomatopoeias or his profound use of repetition. I
could go on forever but the fact is Dr Seuss and his creative mind has an amazing talent for using
satire to make his books come to life. To make his books stick around for so long and to open the
minds of his reader to the world of satire and the amazing world of literature.
This creative talent is most clearly shown by the uses of exaggeration all throughout the book
The Butter Battle. Whether it s the fact that these two races are fighting over what side they
butter their bread. Or the fact that each side believes one is worse because of that fact. No
matter where you look in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So
you cant trust a Zook who spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has
kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that
no one would have kinks in their soul because of how they butter their bread. Or that every Zook
has to be watched! Another great example would be the line, I ll blow you up he yelled, into
pork and wee beans (Seuss). Now we all know that you cant blow someone up into pork and wee
beans! It s just physically impossible but that doesn t stop Dr. Seuss from using it and using it
effectively. To sum this all up, it s very easy to see that exaggeration is just one of the few pieces
of satire Dr. Seuss uses. But it is used extremely effective and makes the reader more interested and
gives them a few laughs in the process!
In addition to exaggeration, Seuss has an incredible knack for using repetition that makes the
reader more engaged. Makes the reader want to see what that next funky word will be, what goofy
sentence will follow. This simple piece of satire has immense power! With just a few

Media Pitching
Tips on Pitching to the Media By Marsha Friedman Apr 2, 2008 So now you really feel like you

television, talk radio or in newspapers and magazines for your company, product or services.
First, let me congratulate you on this point! This is a big step in the right direction of growing
your media exposure! By now you have probably sat down and looked at your topic, have fully
developed your message and are confident and ready to start getting yourself out there. The next
step in this process is the one that many dread and some even hate: pitching your message to the
media. Here are a few quick tips on how to effectively pitch to the media supplied by Marsha
Friedman. 1.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Don t rely on the media s research. Although the media will do their own homework don t rely
solely on the results of their research. Make sure to give them your facts. This is especially
important if your topic is controversial as you want them to have the data that supports your
position. When you are pitching it is useful to have as many facts ready to use as possible. If
you have a tricky or detailed topic, present as much information as you can so that the busy,
inundated producer or journalist can grasp your message quickly. The more time you save
explaining, the more time you can spend pitching the benefits of having you as a guest or
featured on their pages. 4.There is power in numbers. What we are talking about here is
especially true if you are pitching a controversial topic. If you re pitching a controversial topic to
a radio or TV show, select the guests you want to appear with you. This gives you more control
of the segment and ensures your message will gain acceptance from the audience. If you do not
have suggested guests to pitch to the producer, and they pick it up, you may just be setting
yourself up for an on air ambush, which if you are not prepared, can land you in deep

Leibniz s Discourse On Metaphysics
The Best of All Possible Worlds, or How to Be Optimistic Regardless of Circumstance In Leibniz
s Discourse on Metaphysics the slightly disconcerting claim is made that this world is the best of
all possible worlds. Leibniz s optimistic claim about the nature of reality arises out of his definition
of God, and in the process of laying his arguments many pieces of Leibniz s metaphysics can be
found. Leibniz reconciles both free willand the problem of evil with his claim about the condition of
the universealong with creating the foundations for an ethics based on intent rather than outcome.
Although Voltaire s Candide rather famously satirizes Leibniz s ideas its objection is weak, and a
stronger objection lies in Leibniz s determinism and the possibility of random chance.
To understand Leibniz s assertion about the moral nature of our world it is first necessary to
understand his conception of God. Leibniz defines God as, an absolutely perfect being (Leibniz 1).
As a perfect being God is, of course, omnipotent and omniscient, but he is also perfectly good and
acts in, the most perfect manner. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In explicit terms Leibniz lays out that God follows morality as opposed to God determining
morality. Thus it is conceivable that the best world that God could make would be one that
includes the possibility of random chance. The moral implications of such a universe and the
arguments for why random chance would be desirable are beyond the scope of this paper, however
it is sufficient here to say that the idea of random chance poses a credible threat to Leibniz s
metaphysical optimism, though the debate over the truth may rage through to the establishment of
the Republic of Minds, if such a state should come to

Pluto Research Paper
NASA s New Horizons spacecraft has snapped the first ever color photograph of Pluto. The
image, shown below, may be a bit blurry, but you can expect more detailed images to emerge as
the spacecraft gets closer to the lonely planet on the edge of the Solar System. New Horizons also
caught Charon, a moon, in the photograph of Pluto.
New Horizons is expected to get closer to Pluto and grab detailed images that should be able to
detect differences in the planet s surface of a few miles apart. Right now, it s still some 70 million
miles away. The spacecraft was launched on January 19, 2006 with an Earth and solar escape

Fracking Technology On Extraction Of Shale Gas And Oil Essay
Fracking technology. What are the environmental and health issues related to fracking technology
on extraction of shale gas and oil?
Unconventional gas and oil extraction process known as hydraulic fracturing, hydrofracking or
fracking is a technique used to extract shale gas and oil, on which high pressure fluid is injected,
mainly water, containing sand, chemicals or other granular materials which are pumped with a
fluid medium under pressure into rock, so that fractures formed in this process are held open when
the pressure is released, allowing oil or gas to flow more freely suspended, with the aid of
thickening agents.
Once that unconventional gas and oil extraction (fracking) has becoming widespread practice and a
concern in some countries, particularly in the United States of America (USA), relatively about
potential environmental risks and human health outcome, as well as potential routes of human
vulnerability, has been the focus of several studies by social researchers, health and environmental
scientists, and epidemiologists. This essay will present and analyse the challenges imposed by
hydraulic fracturing to extract oil and shale gas, particularly related with environmental and health
issues.
Hydrofracking began in 1947 as an application in the USA and was followed in 1950 by the first
commercially successful application. Although, only recently (in 2007 the method was first used

Themes In Hedna Gabler And Hedda Gabler
Setting and tone are both very significant within a play. With setting you re able to know the time
and place of the events that are taking place, and what influences the character`s actions and
behaviour. With the information regarding the setting you can determine how the play specifically
reflects on the society that it takes place in, and what influence it has over the characters. The
reader should be able to visualize the play with the reference of the setting. In addition, tone helps
set the mood which is an crucial effort to determine the language of the character. The tone justifies
the attitude of the narrator or the character s viewpoint. The play Hedda Gablertakes place in a

mother in law. The play is based off of a woman s unhappiness towards a man, which resembles
Magdalene Thoresen experience when she was younger. Elida s (the character that resembles
Magdalene) has a love affair with Finn. A similar experience that Magdalene had with an

Hedda Gabler (1890) is one of his well known plays, that contains a family s character with that

Essay about The Media’s Effect on Adolescent Bodies
The Media s Effect on Adolescent Bodies
The stringent standard Barbie doll proportions of body image and what is considered beautiful
in today s media has resulted in devastating effects on adolescent women. The images displayed
of women who have long beautiful legs, thin waist lines and smooth flawless skin are very hard
to ignore. Throughout history the female body has been on display as a selling tool to coerce
people into buying that new fancy car or the latest new appliance that can make their everyday

In her book The Beauty Myth, Naomi Wolf criticizes the media and its negative effects on women
by stating that every woman should be allowed the choice to do whatever we want with our faces
and bodies without being punished by an ideology that is using attitudes, economic pressure, and
even legal judgments regarding women s appearance to undermine us psychologically and
politically (10). Some of the most common negative effects that young girls are experiencing are
physical, emotional, and social.
The physical effect s that the media has on a young girl s overall beauty and body image are
staggering. Many young girls put their bodies through painful physical transformations. They
want to look just like their favorite celebrities or to fit into the latest fashion trends and appeal to
the media s idea of what the opposite sex wants them to look like. Willis s The Culture of Beauty,

avoid dressing altogether. They print lessons available to male readers regarding what s desirable
and ideal when it comes to the sizes and shapes of women s body parts (106 107). What s even

Causes Of Death In Romeo And Juliet
The Final Push To Fatal Ends
The deaths and conflicts of Romeo and Juliet are thoroughly frustrating, woven around lies, love,
and control. Each generation reading the classic Shakespeare play draws different conclusions and

events resulting in six deaths. Romeo, the main character rather impulsive and quick to act, makes
decisions that causes foreseeable conflicts to occur. As bodies drop and conflicts rise society is left

In addition to the conflict quickly escalates as Romeo pre sways Juliet to marry him the next day
and in his haste he makes way for many misunderstandings. This is evident as Tybaltconfronts
Romeo, and Romeo foolishly says,
I do protest, I never injured thee,
But love thee better than thou canst devise,
Till thou shalt know the reason of my love;
And so, good Capulet, which name I tender,
As dearly as mine own, be satisfied (3.1.67 71)
this anatazingses Tybalt as the quotation sounds like mockery and therefore since Romeo knows
Tybalt does not know of his marriage, it is his fault. Mercutio s death is the conflict that results in
Tybalt s misunderstanding when Romeo intervenes the fight between Mercutio and Tybalt
unintentionally causing the death. This is reiterated as Mercutio speaks, Why the devil came you
between us? I was hurt under your arm. (3.1.101 102) hence Romeo is responsible for the deaths
that occurred in the play.
Along with the death of Mercutio, Romeo then violently reacts causing more tragic deaths and
poorly thought out plans to occur. Romeo in a blind fury seeking revenge for Mercutio s death
demands another death to follow, Either thou, or I, or both, must go with him. (3.1.122) he seals
his fate as Tybalt is slain by his hand. This leads to his banishment in Verona. Thus causes his
mother s death, Alas, my liege, my wife is dead to night;/ Grief of my son s exile hath stopp d her

Analysis Of Arnold Wesker s The Kitchen
Britain in the 1950s was rife with many challenges and changes. Whilst the Second World War
had been over for years, war lived in the hearts of the nation. In 1953, Princess Elizabeth became
Queen Elizabeth II, the first female monarch in over 50 years and the ever present struggle of
being a woman in a world of men is referenced in Arnold Wesker s The Kitchen. A kitchen sink
drama play, the issues raised in the play are as relevant today as they were in the 1950s. From
abortionto war, and consequently, immigration, Wesker s play managed to merge the beliefs of two
completely different generations in one play.
David Mathieson states in Radical London in the 1950s, the possibility of Third World War cast
a long shadow over the politics of the 1950s . Many of the characters in The Kitchen came to
Britain to escape the horrors of war, such as Peter, Paul and Frank. Despite the last major war
being finished over a decade previous, there were many wars still being fought across the world
with men signing up to them thanks to the National Service. Moreover, due to the wars, a sundry
of people came over to Britain for a chance at a better life or at least to make money to send over
to families in war torn areas of Europe. However, as immigration increased, so did racial
prejudices. This is notable in The Kitchen through many of the British born characters, Bertha and
Violet are just a few. In our version of the play, Bertha clearly has a hatred of foreigners. Bertha:

new franchise was the total population of people in the workforce. In Gatton the total
population of people in the work force was only 166 people whereas in Kingscliff the number of

The Four Evangelists
Out of the four Evangelists, I find Mark to be the most intriguing. Not because he had the first
gospel to be composed, but his drive and affection for Jesus. I will be discussing the play
Everyman and how Mark s purpose to encourage a group undergoing difficult trials and
persecutions correlates with the play both philosophically and aesthetically. Everyman summarizes
that every person will be asked about their sins and good deeds. Mark on the other hand (also
Matthew), both say the same thing about Jesus when he s resurrected. My God, my God, why have
you forsaken me? (Just). This shows that Mark was very big on salvation. He wanted people who
committed sins in his community to be rectified by Christ. This is why he says those seven... Show

His first words correlates yet contradicts in what Everyman says because it s like a moral
allegory (Fiero, pg. 3). Everyman basically wants all Christian souls to be petrified of
resurrection, but they want them to repent while Mark looks at it in a much more optimistic
way. He not only wants them to repent, but wants them to be ready for the return of Christ.
Persevere in faith despite suffering; follow Jesus on the way to the cross; be ready for his return
(Just). Although Mark showed lots of love and devotion towards Christ, he s the only evangelist
to describe his agony and tragic death. He viewed Jesus as Gods persecuted one because of him
dying and feeling abandoned (PBS). The lion with wings symbolizes the Evangelical Mark. This
not only shows his bravery, but why he would fit inevitably in Everyman. It s only for strong
Christian believers like Mark, but, of course, there are many more strong believers. Throughout
Everyman you see the Christians repeat the same thing which is repenting to God for their sins.
Mark although who encourages people to repent doesn t say it as often, but often mentions people
committing good sins. They re very similar it s just that Everyman believes more in repenting to
God and Mark believes more into doing good deeds for

Essay On Postoperative Pain
Discussion
Postoperative pain is the most undesired sequence of surgery, and if not treated properly, can lead
to increased hospital stay and delayed return to daily activities (10).
The management of postoperative pain has received much interest nowadays. The intensity of
postoperative pain depends on many factors such as type and duration of the surgery, type of
anesthesia and analgesia used, and the patient s mental and emotional status (11).
Local wound infiltration is an attractive method since it is efficacious and adverse actions are
minimal (12). However, this route is limited by the fact that duration of analgesia is limited to the
duration of action of local anesthetic. Efforts are being made to increase the duration of action of ...

Debussy Music
In the music Debussy composed, all instruments were called upon to share the innovations of his
creative art, but only the piano was truly capable of incorporating his ideas. For this there were two
reasons. First, the piano, being an instrument of harmony and of tonal blending rather than one of
simple melodic statement, was the natural medium for experimentation in a personal art built upon
harmony and tone blending. Second, the piano, in spite of all that had been accomplished for it by
several generations of exploiting virtuosi, was still capable of gradations of color and nuances of
accentuation that had been ignored or perhaps more correctly, used only sparingly by the high
riding masters of its sonorities.
As a pianist, his compositional blending had little of the symphonic essence of orchestral music. It
was said that he was endeavoring to make the piano not the piano. ... Show more content on

His teacher Marmontel is quoted as saying Debussy isn t very fond of the piano, but he loves
music. From this one may gather that even at the Conservatoire Debussy was aware of the
limitations of the instrument. There are descriptions of him launching himself at the piano,
overdoing every effect, as though moved by a deep hatred. On the other hand Fargue
remembered his playing in the 1890s he cradled it [the piano], talked softly to it, like a rider to
his horse, a shepherd to his flock or a thresher to his oxen. It is significant that on this occasion he
was performing the uncompleted score of Pelleas. Among the varied accounts of his playing,
agreement is reached on only two points: that it was like nobody else s, and that it had about it an
orchestral quality. At all events, the two approaches outlined above, at the extremes of boldness and
refinement, both display and unwillingness to treat the piano as it had been treated in the past, and

Abstract Peroxidase is a turnip enzyme; it is used in the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to lower
activation energy, speeding up the reaction. The activity of peroxidase is highly dependent on its
environment and most importantly the pH level. Peroxidase has been the focus of many recent
studies and is believed to possibly reduce swelling among other things. We conducted an
experiment testing the effect different levels of pH had on the reaction rate of peroxidase. In the

SWOT Analysis
In order to know my position in the industry and the viability of my chosen profession, A SWOT
Analysis has been initiated taking into consideration the legal, social, economic and technological
aspects of business.
Becoming an accountant requires having the appropriate degree and passing the licensure
examination. The educational requirement, as well as the number of hours in apprenticeship is
necessary before one can rightfully be called an accountant. A mere graduate of the profession
would not constitute to automatic nomination into the league or associations of accountant. As an
international student, in order to work in the US one must secure a working permit. This is one of
the requirements in working in the US. Usually, if an individual enter the US in a student visa
then that individual is required by law to return to his or her country of origin. However, if an
opportunity of employment is opened or extended to this individual, the employer would fix all the
necessary documents to arrange for the individual s working visa and permits.
Although protected by law, discrimination and prejudice still exist in the US and this is one of the
identified threats which might deter a person qualified or otherwise to seek employment from a
reputable company. Language barrier is also a problem that is seen as a weakness and a threat at
the same time. Foreign nationals who have been to the US for a limited time may not necessarily

Decision Making In The Picture Of Dorian Gray
Cause and Effect
In life, accumulation of mistakes usually leads to corruption if we do not take a certain decision
to make a sincere confession, to give them up. Most of the time, people who are concerned by
this type of behavior are petulant, and like to hear things favorable for them. Therefore, it is true
that any failure to make good choices in life might lead to disaster or might teach us meaningful
lessons that we would never forget. Therefore, thinking about mistakes reminded me of the
novel The Picture of Dorian Gray that I read three years ago. I think it is a good example to
illustrate my point of view regarding a friend who is jealous enough to drive a young
inexperienced person in the wrong direction. Therefore, according to a study in the life span
development, regarding decision making, I have read that older adolescents (as well as adults)
decision making skills are far from perfect, and having the capacity to make competent decisions
does not guarantee that such decisions will be made in everyday life, where breath of
experience often comes into play . So, I come to know that anyone can influence a person s
decision at this period of life because of the inability to make rational decisions. For that reason,
youths around this age need to keep good company. However, the young Dorian in The Picture of
Dorian Gray used the appearance of a handsome, pure, innocent, and inexperienced boy. His wish
was to love Sybil, and, make her the greatest actress in

activity needed for many people to lose weight and sustain a body weight in the healthy range over
the long term. (Thompson amp; Manore, Nutrition for Life, 2013)
Xenadrine. Xenadrine is an over the counter weight loss pill that has changed multiple times over

snacking between meals, and not to take Xenadrine within 5 hours of bedtime.

How Does Petruchio Dehumanize Women
Ladies and gentlemen of the jury, any outsider would be able to attest that Katherine and Petruchio
don t have a standard relationship for the entirety of the play, and you must look at exaggerations
used and view the play as a whole. When Gremio and Petruchio use more deeming imagery,
Shakespeare is criticizing the dehumanization of women going on at the time. Petruchio on several
different times makes reference to Katherine being a haggard, a type of untrainable falcon, in terms
of them both being difficult to train, thus dehumanizing Katherine. This viewpoint shows the
ridiculousness of having women being subordinate to men. Shakespeare also criticizes how people

Katherine and Petruchio begin their relationship with him starving, manipulating her words, and
not allowing her to sleep, which is not condoned by Shakespeare. These unrealistic and
exaggerated actions that pain Katherine are used to critique the treatment of women and their role
in society. Shakespeare is not condoning these actions but rather emphasizing their irrationality.
Shakespeare continues criticizing the role of women with demonstrating Baptista and how he is
neglectful of Katherine, showing poor treatment will lead to the shrew behavior, in comparison to
Bianca who is praised for everything, therefore is more desirable with a seemingly hire position in
society. The position of women is based on their attractiveness as a spouse to men. There is no
mother figure in the book so Katherine doesn t have a female role model to look up to, so
Shakespeare is alluding to the importance women have in society in terms of creating more
intelligent creatures. Petruchio treats Katherine as an equal in the scene where they first meet,

The Importance Of Leadership And An Organization
Leadership is both practical skills and research areas concerning the capability of an organisation
or individual to guide or lead other individuals, organisations or teams. It is a process of
influencing people socially where a person can register the support and aid of other individuals for
the accomplishment of common tasks (Kvalnes, 2014). This is when the interpersonal skills come
into use. Proper communication among all the hierarchies of the organisation is very important to
achieve the desired goals (Korde, Eckert, Nielsen Lazo Giffen, 2011).
Leadership is very important in any organisation to function smoothly. The goal of big and small
businesses is to maintain the satisfaction of their customers and clients. All successful businesses
and organisations need leaders who are effective (Tracy, 2014). Leaders in professional teams
require various essential skills that have a direct relation with how they cooperate with the other
workers and lead the teams to attain the targets and achieve high returns on investment. The leaders
help in communication and formulation of new, effective strategic decisions to reach the target or
the desired goals. Leaders need to be resilient and agile to focus on the socio political shifts and
digital necessity inside the organisation. Their correct and proper decisions help companies to
survive and yield better results during the crisis period. Maintaining a healthy relationship with the
clients and the customers can only be attained

Mary Jackson Physicalism Analysis
Physicalism is the view that the universe, including all that is mental, is entirely physical.
Jackson s thought experiment about Mary challenges the thesis that the actual world is entire
physical. In a scenario given by Jackson is the story of the black and white room. There, a
scientist named Mary lives her entire life in black and white. Mary has never seen everything
except black and white, and knows everything she needs to know about the calibration of the
brain when one sees the color red or blue. She can scan the brain and see the physical basis of
colors, but she has never seen anything but black and white, and there is nothing she does not know
about color. But supposed that she walks out of the room. Many philosophers argue that

The Impact Of Old-Time Radio Era On American Culture
There have been many different aspects that have come out of the old time radio era that have
impacted our culture today. It was not just the news that people learned about it was also
entertainment. Usually, in a time when there was nothing to be happy about. In order for us to
understand the difference that these people made in the lives of others. It needs to be
understood why they were created and where they came from. Also, it was not just about the
actors, it was the story lines and the dramas that helped people escape and either enjoy a good
thriller or comedy show. A radio drama is a dramatized performance, broadcasted on the radio or it
was published on audio media for instance a tape or CD. These tapes became very popular during...

While this is usually not necessarily a lousy concept, the fiasco on October 31st, 1938 between
8 and 9 PM said a different story. The WABC radio broadcast network decided to air an episode
of, The Mercury Theatre on the Air . Directed by Orson Welles the group performed their
adaption of, The war of the Worlds , written by Howard Koch s. The actors in the group did such
a marvelous job that people listening in actually believed that they were listening to a live news
report of a sure enough alien invasion. This broadcast caused such a mass panic that now when
you are watching or listening to mockumentary or fake broadcast there is always a disclaimer.
According to an article run in the, Daily News titled, Fake Radio war Stirs Terror Through U.S., in
1938. It stated that, Thousands flee. Without waiting for further details, thousands of listeners
rushed from their homes in New York and New Jersey, many with towels across their faces to
protect themselves from gas which the invader was supposed to be spewing forth. Simultaneously,
thousands more in states that stretched west to California and south to the Gulf of Mexico rushed
to their telephones to inquire of newspapers, the police, switchboard operators, and electric
companies what they should do to protect themselves. (George Dixon,

Unit 5 Research-Related Study In Nursing
Synthesis Chronic diseases, such as T2DM and CVD, require significant lifestyle modifications
that may be perceived as undesirable to some patients. A loss of autonomy and control over their
chronic disease, as well as negative relationships with CM doctors, were two major influences for
seeking other treatment options. Warren (2012), addressed the attitudes of doctors as dismissive
and disbelieving, and patients found that they did not partner with them in the treatment of their
disease, but instead reinforced their superiority. In addition, it was stated that the regimens
prescribed by their doctors were highly disruptive to their lives and forced them to comply with
regular treatment and monitoring of their disease. CAM users also felt... Show more content on

A knowledge deficit is revealed in the five research studies and indicates there is a need for
further education in regards to CAM therapies. Nurses play an active role in patient care, and
understanding the positive and negative effects of CAM use will benefit them greatly. According
to Shorofi and Arbone (2010), knowledge of CAM is important to the future development of
nursing practice because an increasing use by the public creates a challenge to nurses who must
manage this aspect of care. As CAM grows in popularity, it will become more prevalent in the health
care system and will have an effect on, nurse patient relationships. In addition, a solid foundation of
the adverse reactions between alternative therapies and medications is crucial to delivering safe
treatment. Patients who are diagnosed with T2DM and CVD require extensive therapy and lifestyle
modifications to manage their disease process. Fatal reactions and mortality can result from misuse
of the two treatments concurrently. For this reason, it was stressed in all studies that further
education programs for CAM need to be implemented with a focus on nurses who are the primary
educators in the health care

Gatsby Women
The simple life of the Gatsby women I m p paralyzed with happiness is just one of the
stereotypes of a woman in the 1920 s. In Scott F. Fitzgerald s, The Great Gatsby, there is an often
ignored view of the women s perspective. It brings attention to how women have no
expectations to go far in life, or have a reason for life besides, to reproduce. The absurd thing is
that the women don t have any interest to break out of the stereotype, and try to make a life for
themselves. Throughout the story, Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker, and Myrtle Wilson are treated
as possessions rather than humans. The female character first mentioned is Daisy, a perfect
example of a woman in the 1920 s. She is married to Tom, and has a daughter Pammy, who doesn t
have a job, and is very flirtatious. In The Great Gatsby, Daisy has always been in the upper class
so to speak, so she doesn t know what it is like to not get her way, and has never settled for
anything less. When she sees Gatsby s shirts, Daisy says They re such beautiful shirts, she
sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such
beautiful shirts before. (Fitzgerald,118). What is meant by Daisy crying over the shirts, is that it
shows that she has finally found a lifestyle that is greater than her current one. It makes her sad
when she sees the shirts because she knows that it s a lifestyle that she has always wanted, but has
never had the chance to have until this point, so she is upset, because she knows that she would be
risking everything if she chose this life. It also shows, that women can be overdramatic in situations
that should have little to no effect on a male.
In addition, Daisy also believes it is better to be dumb than to be knowledgeable as a woman.
Growing up Daisy had come from a wealthy family, and has never known poverty. She says in
chapter 5 All right, I said, I m glad it s a girl. And I hope she ll be a fool that s the best thing a
girl can be in this world, a beautiful little fool. (118). She hopes this is for her daughter because
she believes if you don t confront the issue, everything will be the same, and nothing will change.
Daisy herself is being cheated on by Tom, her

Teaching Strategies For Using Geometric Growing Patterns...
PART A Markworth (2012) suggests ways students can learn algebraic concepts and geometric
patterns by developing an understanding of functional thinking. Growing patterns are a useful
counting method that allows students to engage with algebra. Geometric growing patterns best
support student s ability to develop functional thinking which is essential. This article outlines three
teaching strategies for using geometric growing patterns, these are: Promoting various ways of
seeing Identifying corresponding ways of counting Using a three column table Understanding the
explicit relationship between the independent variable to the dependent variable helps for the
generalisation and encouraging student s functional thinking. Markworth... Show more content on

Markwell (2012) states that seeing methods of growing patterns and its structure are useful ways of
counting. Ways of counting is the second teaching method for calculating functional relationships
from the dependent variable. More advanced geometric patterns are a useful analysis towards
identifying a way of seeing that leads to a way of counting which is important for students.
Markwell (2012) further highlights that a two column graph draws upon a vertical relationship in
the right hand column. It is then noted that this will promote recursive thinking as it highlights only
the dependent variable and its progression. To developing a high functional thinking, it is required
to understand the horizontal relationship between independent and dependant variables. Markwell
(2012) highlights the third teaching strategy would be to introduce a three column graph with
calculations in the middle which enables students to understand functional relationships (words,
symbols and variables), this methods leads to understanding geometric ways of seeing and
numerical ways of counting. Effectively three column tables will enable students to connect the
independent and dependent variable in an explicit functional relationship. It is further stated in this
article that students are introduced to functional thinking in early stages of schooling. It is taught as

Introduction. The Forward Premium Puzzle Can Be Referred
Introduction The forward premium puzzle can be referred to as the forward premium anomaly in
the capital markets. A forward premium can be described as a situation where the future exchange
or the spot future exchange trades at higher spot exchange rate compared to the domestic currency.
Using descriptive measures, the forward premium can be measured as the difference between the
forward rates. The prevailing spot rate and which also includes the domestic currency is expected to
increase when the domestic interest rates (nominal) surpasses foreign interest rates (Lane, and
Milesi‐Ferretti, 2011). The premium puzzle can be well seen because the theory explains that if
all currencies possess equal risks, all investors would ask for interest... Show more content on

Individuals with relatively selective information about the quality of a product will selectively
participate in trades which benefit them the most, at the expense of the other trader. Forward
contracts cannot be traded in the exchange markets. Therefore, standard amounts of currency are
not traded in these forms of agreements. The only way they can be cancelled is when both
parties collectively agree. These parties involved in the contract are mostly interested in hedging
a foreign exchange position or even taking a speculative position. The parties with little the
information are worried about rigged trades, which occur when the party who has all the
information uses it to their advantage. This diminishes the volume of trade in the market. In this
case, the person who is subjected to adverse selection can protect himself by screening customers
or by identifying credible signals of appetite. For example, where the buyer is adversely selected
against are in financial markets. An organisation is more likely to offer stock when managers
privately know that the current stock price exceeds the fundamental value of the firm. The
premium puzzle can be well seen because the economic theory states that if all currencies are
equally risky, all investors would ask for interest rates which are high on currencies which are
expected to reduce in value in the short run. Mostly, logical assumptions are made stating that future
spot rate is equal to the current

Church Service Reflection
In June 2016, I was blessed with the opportunity to serve on a mission trip to Haiti. While this
whole experience was outside of my cultural norms, I found that the church service was
specifically unlike anything I had ever experienced before. The church located on the campus of
Mission of Hope: Haiti, was constructed in the form of a crucifix. I honestly had no idea what to
expect from the Sunday morning church service. Before the church service began, my friend and
her family made sure that I took my own bible and journal to church, since the message was spoken
in Haitian Creole.
I knew that we were in Haiti serving those who were living in poverty, but to my surprise the
Haitians who attended the church service were dressed in very nice clothing. I believe this was
the biggest stereotype going into the church service. After spending time in nearby villages and
interacting with the Haitian people, I did not think they would have the means to have such nice
clothing. I love that throughout the week they wear casual clothing and on Sundays wear their
best clothing. That reminded me a lot about how I was raised. As a child, I always had to wear a
skirt or dress to church. This younger kids reminded me of myself.
Enriching awareness This experience allowed me to understand the universal Church better. It was
such a cool thing to experience the worship that was included in the service. The songs were sung
in Creole, but I could sing the words in English because I was able to

Examples Of Noble In Julius Caesar
Brutus, the Noblest Roman of them All
By definition, noble is having moral character, courage, generosity, honor and bravery to do what
is right. It is finding the truth and reason in everything that happens around you. Many of the
characters in Julius Caesar have a selfish goal to gain more power and wealth. For instance, Julius
Caesar was a great general, but he only cared about ruling Rome. Cassius was a smart and wise
man, but he wanted Caesar s death out of envy and jealousy. Many of the senators, who were
involved in Caesar`s assassination, hated watching him take over Rome, and many Romans thought
of him as their rival. Except for one noble senator named Brutus, who was different from the other
senators and fought only for Rome ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Brutus took part in Caesar s death for Rome, while the other senators did it out of envy and fear
that Caesar would become too powerful. Many of the senators hated Caesar, but Brutus admits
how he loved Caesar and how it was hard for him to kill him. In history, during the time of
segregation, Martin Luther King, Jr. had to face prejudice, injustice, and hate so he could fight
for civil rights. Just like how Brutus faces his fellow Romans, their criticism and Antony and
Octavius` attempts at killing him, so he could save democracy. Both Martin Luther King, Jr.
and Brutus were ready to do what it took to make a change and take risks to reach their goals.
Martin Luther King, Jr. dreamed of equality and he took the risk to make the I Have a Dream
speech even though it put his life on the line. Brutus stabs Caesar and keeps his life on the line to
make a difference in the Roman government and faces tough consequences. In his speech after
Caesar s death, he tells his fellow Romans: I have / the same dagger for myself when it shall
please my country to need my death (iii. ii.45 46). Brutus explains that he would keep the same
dagger he used to kill Caesar when he fails to bring change to Rome and do whatever it takes to
please his country, even if it involves his own death. Brutus speech shows his full commitment to
doing the right thing for Rome and his willingness to risk his life if he fails. Brutus takes on risks

Space is made of many secrets yet to be discover, but every day we tend to move closer.
However, due to size of space we will never stop learning. For example, 50 years ago many
people thought it impossible to travel to the moon, but as time continue we realize that nothing
is impossible, it just needs time. Although, the discoveries we have made regarding to space are
relative new, the ideals and concept are not. Most of them come from people such as Galileo or
even Leonardo da Vinci which most of them are over half a century old. Moreover, Ulysses was
also an idea that started way before it was commissioned, but due to the lack of technological
advances it had to be put a hold. However, it was never forgotten. Furthermore, this paper will look
at Ulysses Spacecraft, but most importantly how Ulysses was able to study the heliosphere during
its 18 year mission orbiting around the sun. In other words, this paper will focus on how Ulysses
was able to study the region of space influenced by the Sun and its magnetic field. As well as its
discoveries and the partnership between NASA and ESA which with their collaboration made the

He was an important part of history for many reasons. Patrick was born on May 29, 1736 in Studley, Virginia. He was best known for his speech Give me liberty or give me death . When he was younger he tried growing tobacco but failed trying after three years. So he started studying law, he became a lawyer in 1770 because he was fascinated by politics, and everything in general about law. He became a famous lawyer because of the Parson s case . Before he became a famous lawyer he went to trials in a nearby court. He soon came to marry a lady named Sarah Shelton, they got married in 1754 but their marriage came to an end because she died in 1775. He married a lady named Dorethea Dandridge, between her and sarah they had 17 children. Patrick was a lawyer, patriot, orator, and a willing participant in virtually every aspect of founding america. He was also in the sons and daughters of liberty. He was an outspoken opponent of the Stamp and Townshend Acts levied by England, he stirred the seeds of discord with his famous Give Me Liberty Or Give Me Death speech to the VirginiaAssembly in 1775. • 3. How Language Can Help Your Child Learn Sight Words 31 How to Use Sign Language to Help Your Child Learn Sight Words Sign language has many beneficial uses for young children. Not only are you teaching your child a way to communicate other than talking, but you can also teach them other things. I have found that using sign language to teach sight words very beneficial. This project is perfect for those parents who have already started teaching their toddler sign language. Your toddler will first need to have the alphabet basics of sign language down packed, before moving on to sight words. The first thing that you will need to do is create a list of sight words. You can purchase sight wordflashcards from your local Walgreens store, or even online at Walgreens.com. Once you have your flashcards you can start with the first word. You can start by picking the first word that you will work with for the week. Show your child how to sign that first word. When you show them the way to make the word with their hands you can also show them the card. This should be your project of the first week. Stick with one word for at least a few weeks. Remember you don t want to be in any hurry to teach your child each words. Allow them to take their time and slowly learn their sign language sight words. Not only will you be helping them get started on the way to reading, with their eyes, but they will also be learning how to better communicate with their hands. Helping them to learn to sign with their hands is a great way to keep learning ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 4. Motherhood In The 1800 s As the 1800 s progressed, women developed an increased awareness of their lack of rights in society. Even though they were productive members the society, women were not allowed to vote or have an input in the government (Marshall). Men had compelled [women] to submit to laws, in the formation of which [they] had no choice (The Declaration of Sentiments). Thus, women were not treated equally to men and they had no control over this. Women also had the legal status of a minor, meaning they could not own property or make many of their own decisions. Motherhood developed into the cult of domesticity, which was a part of the concept of members of society having different spheres of influence. A womans sphere was solely in the house so... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Sarah and Angelina Grimke were two sisters who lived in the south, but joined the abolition movement regardless (Kendall 35). The abolition movement was closely linked to the women s rights movement because many saw the cult of domesticity as a form of slavery (Marshall). The Grimkes attended and spoke at a series of lectures in 1837 and 1838. Their speeches were later published as Letters on the Equality of the Sexes and the Condition of Woman (Kendall 37). In one letter to her sister, Sarah is quoted to have said all I ask of our brethren is, that they will take their feet from off our necks and permit us to stand upright on the ground which God designed us to occupy (Kendall 36). In this, Grimke highlights the oppression felt by women in the time period and the importance of allowing women to have a voice. Another activist, Elizabeth Cady Stanton also felt it was essential for men to have no more rights or power than women. She coined the motto, men, their rights and nothing more: women, their rights and nothing less, (Kendall 42) meaning that men should have nothing more than women, but women are not above men either. Cady Stanton also created the Seneca Falls Convention with a friend, Lucretia Mott. After meeting at a convention for abolitionism in England, the two women decided to create a convention ... • 5. Essay on Film Trailer Portfolio Film Trailer Portfolio When the task of creating a film trailer was first put to us, I had several ideas for the movie s context. The first was of a movie in the action genre that dealt with revenge, whilst the other two were in the horror genre. The horror genre appealed to me more, as a low budget film can still have the desired effect by use of different filming techniques, and I wanted to depend more on a psychological aspect. My first idea was to do a film about a poltergeist. I had watched several films such as Poltergeist , but wanted to create a film that relied less on visual effects, something that leant towards the style of Albert Hitchcock, who is still seen today as the Master of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... I purchased the Exorcist DVD, which featured a making of documentary. Here I learned of Friedkin s strict attention to detail, and also uncovered some of his secrets that made the film so effective. The film features two main techniques throughout the film that I immediately thought about adding to my own film, those being the use of lighting and sound. The film moves from very bright light scenes, such as the films opening in the Middle East, to the darkness of Georgetown (the films setting), or from the clean and well lit living room of the house, to the black and gloomy mist of the girl s bedroom. Why? The sound was used similarly, from eerily quiet to sudden loudness, one scene that uses this is the sharp cut from the Priest s gentle dream of his mother, to the piercing scream of the little girl. Why The use of restful music as the main soundtrack in The Exorcist added to the loud and quiet technique Friedkin used, to create the sense that everything is calm. I myself began my trailer using this technique, with some gentle music, so that when things begin to go wrong, the impact is more substantial. The voice that was created for the demon in this film was dubbed in synch after the scenes had been shot. I used this technique to dub in the voice of the priest in my trailer, the line I dare not say was recorded by microphone input ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

It can take the form of anything to grasp people s attention. Dating back to the 1920s, the word media has been introduced due to the golden age of American society. • 10. The City Of Branson s Fiscal Year Runs Budget Process Goals The City of Branson s fiscal year runs January 1 through December 31. Typically, the budget preparation process begins in mid July when budget documents and instructions are distributed by the Finance Department to the each city department. The various departments have approximately three weeks to assess any budget goals, capital and personnel requests, and to complete projections for the current fiscal year. By mid August, the Finance Department completes a preliminary review of the departments budget, personnel and capital requests. The City Administrator then meets with the Finance Director to review any requests, and schedules one on one meetings with each department head. As the first organization in Missouri to implement Priority Based Budgeting, prior to their administrative review each department head is encouraged to perform a review of programs offered by their department and to establish what programs are not meeting the results identified by the board. The purpose of this process is to allow for reallocation of resources to programs that are determined to need more funding, in place of simply incrementally increasing the departmental line item budget. Aside from simply eliminating the programs that are not achieving desired results, the directors are encouraged to develop solutions to how the identified programs may perform more efficiently. Examples include identifying programs that may be: Mandated for the city to provide, but that ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 11. Essay on Isolation in Sherwood Anderson s Winesburg, Ohio Isolation in Winesburg, Ohio Winesburg, Ohio is a story of lost or nonexistent connections with other human beings. Every character throughout the text has a want, a need, to connect with someone or something. Each individual faces a life of isolation. In most cases the solitary nature of their lives is self inflicted. This self punishment seems to be the outcome of a deeply personal hatred towards the characters perceived differences with the rest of the Winesburg population. This is the fact that elevates Winesburg, Ohio above the rest. It is the fact that every man hides a part of himself from the eyes of others. The hunger was earliest demonstrated in the short story Hands. In this episode the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Each character seems to deteriorate into a simply physical being with no with no living soul left. This is best stated in the words of Irving Howe. He wrote, The grotesques rot because they are unused, their energies deprived of outlet, and their instincts curdled in isolation (Howe). This rotting effect is evident in several other characters; however, it can be most strongly noticed within Elizabeth Willard. Elizabeth Willard, the mother of George Willard, was a wild girl with many dreams. One of her most prevalent was to become a great actress, and work in a traveling company much like those that visited and passed through Winesburg. Upon marrying Tom Willard, Elizabeth s world changed drastically. It seemed her fiery spirit had been broken. No longer did she chase her dreams. They were traded instead to become a maid of sorts to her inherited business. Within her life there was but one joy left and that was Elizabeth s only son, George. Much like his mother was, George is a dreamer. He aspired to become a writer rather than the financial success his father pushes him to be. This was Elizabeth s single hope for her son. Yet in her own eyes she was a failure, a broken old woman, and could not find the strength to express these strong feelings to her son. It was the self perceived defeat that prevented Elizabeth from speaking. Like Wing Biddlebaum and the remaining group of outcasts she hid herself away. In essence, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 12. Examples Of Satire In The Butter Battle Book Satire of The Butter Battle Book. Dr. Seuss, an amazing writer who showed the world of satire and literature to all ages. Books such as The Lorax, The Foot book and The Butter Battle Book are perfect examples of that. Seuss, a man known for his creative vision and use of words, made these books a satire gold mine! We already know about his rhymes but Seuss was also extremely good at using exaggeration. Don t forget his amazing use of onomatopoeias or his profound use of repetition. I could go on forever but the fact is Dr Seuss and his creative mind has an amazing talent for using satire to make his books come to life. To make his books stick around for so long and to open the minds of his reader to the world of satire and the amazing world of literature. This creative talent is most clearly shown by the uses of exaggeration all throughout the book The Butter Battle. Whether it s the fact that these two races are fighting over what side they butter their bread. Or the fact that each side believes one is worse because of that fact. No matter where you look in this book, there will always be a use of exaggeration! One being, So you cant trust a Zook who spreads his bread underneath! Every Zook must be watched! He has kinks in his soul! (Seuss). This quote is a perfect example of exaggeration, it s very obvious that no one would have kinks in their soul because of how they butter their bread. Or that every Zook has to be watched! Another great example would be the line, I ll blow you up he yelled, into pork and wee beans (Seuss). Now we all know that you cant blow someone up into pork and wee beans! It s just physically impossible but that doesn t stop Dr. Seuss from using it and using it effectively. To sum this all up, it s very easy to see that exaggeration is just one of the few pieces of satire Dr. Seuss uses. But it is used extremely effective and makes the reader more interested and gives them a few laughs in the process! In addition to exaggeration, Seuss has an incredible knack for using repetition that makes the reader more engaged. Makes the reader want to see what that next funky word will be, what goofy sentence will follow. This simple piece of satire has immense power! With just a few ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Although the media will do their own homework don t rely solely on the results of their research. Make sure to give them your facts. This is especially important if your topic is controversial as you want them to have the data that supports your position. When you are pitching it is useful to have as many facts ready to use as possible. If you have a tricky or detailed topic, present as much information as you can so that the busy, inundated producer or journalist can grasp your message quickly. The more time you save explaining, the more time you can spend pitching the benefits of having you as a guest or featured on their pages. 4.There is power in numbers. What we are talking about here is especially true if you are pitching a controversial topic. If you re pitching a controversial topic to a radio or TV show, select the guests you want to appear with you. • 15. Leibniz s Discourse On Metaphysics The Best of All Possible Worlds, or How to Be Optimistic Regardless of Circumstance In Leibniz s Discourse on Metaphysics the slightly disconcerting claim is made that this world is the best of all possible worlds. Leibniz s optimistic claim about the nature of reality arises out of his definition of God, and in the process of laying his arguments many pieces of Leibniz s metaphysics can be found. Leibniz reconciles both free willand the problem of evil with his claim about the condition of the universealong with creating the foundations for an ethics based on intent rather than outcome. Although Voltaire s Candide rather famously satirizes Leibniz s ideas its objection is weak, and a stronger objection lies in Leibniz s determinism and the possibility of random chance. To understand Leibniz s assertion about the moral nature of our world it is first necessary to understand his conception of God. Leibniz defines God as, an absolutely perfect being (Leibniz 1). As a perfect being God is, of course, omnipotent and omniscient, but he is also perfectly good and acts in, the most perfect manner. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... In explicit terms Leibniz lays out that God follows morality as opposed to God determining morality. Thus it is conceivable that the best world that God could make would be one that includes the possibility of random chance. The moral implications of such a universe and the arguments for why random chance would be desirable are beyond the scope of this paper, however it is sufficient here to say that the idea of random chance poses a credible threat to Leibniz s metaphysical optimism, though the debate over the truth may rage through to the establishment of the Republic of Minds, if such a state should come to ... In Gatton the total population of people in the work force was only 166 people whereas in Kingscliff the number of people in the work force was 2460 people. After I went over the information the clear choice was to invest in a franchise in Kingscliff as it is a growing town with a high number of people in the work force. The choice to start up a new franchise in Kingscliff was more profitable than starting one up in Gatton as the information shows that you get more customers where people have more money. The last piece of criteria I used was the target age of the consumers. The average age for both place were the same between 25 54 years of age. With this large number of people at that age they would be more likely to Domino s take away. Strengths There are a lot of strengths in investing a Domino s in Kingscliff. • 33. The Four Evangelists Out of the four Evangelists, I find Mark to be the most intriguing. Not because he had the first gospel to be composed, but his drive and affection for Jesus. I will be discussing the play Everyman and how Mark s purpose to encourage a group undergoing difficult trials and persecutions correlates with the play both philosophically and aesthetically. Everyman summarizes that every person will be asked about their sins and good deeds. Mark on the other hand (also Matthew), both say the same thing about Jesus when he s resurrected. My God, my God, why have you forsaken me? (Just). This shows that Mark was very big on salvation. He wanted people who committed sins in his community to be rectified by Christ. Everyman basically wants all Christian souls to be petrified of resurrection, but they want them to repent while Mark looks at it in a much more optimistic way. He not only wants them to repent, but wants them to be ready for the return of Christ. Persevere in faith despite suffering; follow Jesus on the way to the cross; be ready for his return (Just). Although Mark showed lots of love and devotion towards Christ, he s the only evangelist to describe his agony and tragic death. He viewed Jesus as Gods persecuted one because of him dying and feeling abandoned (PBS). The lion with wings symbolizes the Evangelical Mark. This not only shows his bravery, but why he would fit inevitably in Everyman. It s only for strong Christian believers like Mark, but, of course, there are many more strong believers. Throughout Everyman you see the Christians repeat the same thing which is repenting to God for their sins. Mark although who encourages people to repent doesn t say it as often, but often mentions people committing good sins. Essay On Postoperative Pain Discussion Postoperative pain is the most undesired sequence of surgery, and if not treated properly, can lead to increased hospital stay and delayed return to daily activities (10). The management of postoperative pain has received much interest nowadays. The intensity of postoperative pain depends on many factors such as type and duration of the surgery, type of anesthesia and analgesia used, and the patient s mental and emotional status (11). Local wound infiltration is an attractive method since it is efficacious and adverse actions are minimal (12). In addition, Ozyilmaz K etal 2012(15) assessed wound infiltration with saline, levobupivacaine, tramadol or tramadol plus levobupivacaine in lumbar disc surgeries. • 36. Debussy Music In the music Debussy composed, all instruments were called upon to share the innovations of his creative art, but only the piano was truly capable of incorporating his ideas. For this there were two reasons. First, the piano, being an instrument of harmony and of tonal blending rather than one of simple melodic statement, was the natural medium for experimentation in a personal art built upon harmony and tone blending. Second, the piano, in spite of all that had been accomplished for it by several generations of exploiting virtuosi, was still capable of gradations of color and nuances of accentuation that had been ignored or perhaps more correctly, used only sparingly by the high riding masters of its sonorities. As a pianist, his compositional blending had little of the symphonic essence of orchestral music. It was said that he was endeavoring to make the piano not the piano. ... From this one may gather that even at the Conservatoire Debussy was aware of the limitations of the instrument. On the other hand Fargue remembered his playing in the 1890s he cradled it [the piano], talked softly to it, like a rider to his horse, a shepherd to his flock or a thresher to his oxen. It is significant that on this occasion he was performing the uncompleted score of Pelleas. Among the varied accounts of his playing, agreement is reached on only two points: that it was like nobody else s, and that it had about it an orchestral quality. Affects of Ph on Peroxidase Enzyme The Affects of pH on Peroxidase Enzyme Claire Bell Biology 1130 Jazmen Myers Section 36 Abstract Peroxidase is a turnip enzyme; it is used in the oxidation of hydrogen peroxide to lower activation energy, speeding up the reaction. The activity of peroxidase is highly dependent on its environment and most importantly the pH level. Peroxidase has been the focus of many recent studies and is believed to possibly reduce swelling among other things. We conducted an experiment testing the effect different levels of pH had on the reaction rate of peroxidase. Therefore, it is true that any failure to make good choices in life might lead to disaster or might teach us meaningful lessons that we would never forget. Therefore, thinking about mistakes reminded me of the novel The Picture of Dorian Gray that I read three years ago. It brings attention to how women have no expectations to go far in life, or have a reason for life besides, to reproduce. The absurd thing is that the women don t have any interest to break out of the stereotype, and try to make a life for themselves. Throughout the story, Daisy Buchanan, Jordan Baker, and Myrtle Wilson are treated as possessions rather than humans. The female character first mentioned is Daisy, a perfect example of a woman in the 1920 s. She is married to Tom, and has a daughter Pammy, who doesn t have a job, and is very flirtatious. When she sees Gatsby s shirts, Daisy says They re such beautiful shirts, she sobbed, her voice muffled in the thick folds. It makes me sad because I ve never seen such such beautiful shirts before. It makes her sad when she sees the shirts because she knows that it s a lifestyle that she has always wanted, but has never had the chance to have until this point, so she is upset, because she knows that she would be risking everything if she chose this life. It also shows, that women can be overdramatic in situations that should have little to no effect on a male. Markwell (2012) further highlights that a two column graph draws upon a vertical relationship in the right hand column. It is then noted that this will promote recursive thinking as it highlights only the dependent variable and its progression. To developing a high functional thinking, it is required to understand the horizontal relationship between independent and dependant variables. These parties involved in the contract are mostly interested in hedging a foreign exchange position or even taking a speculative position. While this whole experience was outside of my cultural norms, I found that the church service was specifically unlike anything I had ever experienced before.
