Code of Ethics Essay
A code of ethics is a set of written principles regarding conduct and behavior created by the
organization to serve as a guide. The purpose of ethical codes is to give its employees,
management, and any interested party a reference point that adheres to company policy, standards,
and ethical beliefs. The code is made visible to the public to ensure professional integrity, quality,
and to prevent misguided conduct. Regardless of the organization or governing body a code serves
as a goā€“to guide because ethical issues can stem from anywhere at any given time. The Code of

29). The ethical dilemma regarding autonomy is what if the person is unresponsive and unable to
voice their decision? Garrett, Baillie, and Garrett p. 30 answers this concern by saying that persons
do not lose dignity because they are unconscious, in a coma, or out of contact with reality and that
treating that person with dignity should still be in effect.
Autonomy applies to the profession of nursing because the patient should always be allowed to
make decisions regarding their care while being treated with respect and dignity; however,
autonomy can serve as a limiting agent when the patient decides to refuse care that would be of
benefit to them. Autonomy is a sensitive issue because it allows the patient to choose to die and all
health care can do from that point is allow the patient to do so comfortably. With healthcare always
being one step ahead, it allows a surrogate to serve as a voice piece for that patient when they are
unable to make decisions. However, that surrogate can end up making decisions they think is best
for the patient ignoring the patients' will. The responsibility of the nurse and interdisciplinary team
is to inform and educate the patient and patient's surrogate on all aspects of care to include medical
diagnosis, treatment, and care plan so that the patient and

Teacher Ethics
"Ethics are defined as a set of principles of right conducts; the rules or standards governing the
conduct of a person or the members of a profession" ( Dictionary of the Human Language, 2000).
Teachers are often put in situations that require more than just knowing the basic school rules. It is
within these situations, that the ethical dilemmas occur. There is not always a right way to deal with
many daily problems that face educators, but there are ways to handle situations that are better then
others.
Teachers should follow and refer to a code of ethics to help teach in the most appropriate and ethical
way; as well as a guide to help deal with dilemmas.
It is important that teachers give children a fair chance...show more content...
It is inappropriate for a teacher to discuss a child's results with fellow colleagues or other students.
A child's grades should be private, and should not be posted. Students might be ashamed of their
grades, or some people might take poor grades as a bad reflection upon the students' character.
"Public pronouncements (of grades) are likely to taint everyone's opinion of that child's ability"
(Isenberg & Jalongo, 2000 ). It is important not to share professional confidential information in any
other way but a professional way. There are appropriate and inappropriate times to share a child's
information, "part of becoming a professional is knowing when to keep quiet and protect
confidentiality" (Isenberg & Jalongo, 2000).
Just as braking confidentiality is inappropriate so is teacher bias and discrimination. It is suppose to
be that "school is the only institution that can counter the accidents of birth, guarantee of opportunity
and provide objective and fair ways to select and train talented individuals" (Goodlad, Sirotnik &
Sober,1990). However, discrimination towards students takes place all the time. Teachers often
discriminate against males and females, expecting different things from both. "Research over the last
decade has shown that males and females have different classroom experiences

My Personal Ethics Essay
According to the New Oxford American Dictionary, ethics is defined as "moral principles that
govern a person's or group's behavior." Therefore, in an ideal world, ethics should play the ultimate
role when making a decision. If ethics are the principles which guides one's behavior then, ideally,
all decisions should be made entirely based on ethics. Unfortunately, such is not always the case.
A few problems arise when one tries to make an ethical decision, especially as a leader. First, ethics
may mean different things to different people. For example, my religious and spiritual beliefs are
the foundation for what I deem ethical. However, for someone else, ethics might be based on laws
or their own personal understanding of what is...show more content...
Recognizing that not all decisions are ethical, one's moral principles acts as a guide for their
behavior and decision making. Therefore, ethics do (and should) play a major role in decision
making.
As previously mentioned, my religious and spiritual beliefs shape my personal ethics. I grew up
in a very Christian family (one grandfather was a pastor and the other is a deacon), so from a
young age, I was instilled with a belief in God and His teachings, according to the Bible. As I get
older, I am learning that a spiritual journey and relationship with God is one that is personal and
cannot be easily taught or given by others. Therefore, I will admit that as I continue on my
personal journey with God, my personal ethics are still being developed and shaped. Some
behaviors that I may have thought were acceptable in the past, I no longer view the same. For
example, I have a lot of passion for the organizations I am involved with, especially S.M.A.R.T,
which is great as a leader. It is my passion which keeps me dedicated to the organization. However,
because of this passion, when things are not going as I want them to, it might cause me to
communicate in a way that is considered disrespectful to others. Either my tone, the loudness of my
voice, or the things that I say have made others feel disrespected. Personally, I find disrespecting
others to be unethical. Although I may not consciously decide to disrespect them, it is a result of my
behavior. While, at one point, I

Professional Ethics Essay
What Are Professional Ethics
The nature of ethics in a professional setting are a frame work of agreements and understandings
that have come together in order to ensure a mutually beneficial relationship between all parties.
This is the case in any kind of business relationship was well as the in the field of the helping
profession. However I think it is more so the case in the helping profession than any other due to
the nature of the relationship. In a business venture the parties are more or less equal relatively
speaking. They seek out and engage in practices that are profitable; however, sometimes a lack of
ethics can overtake and lead them astray. Instances of insider trading are an example of this,
unbalanced and therefore unethical...show more content...
More simply put ethics keep "us" and "them" on an even keel. They allow us to navigate when all
points of reference are lost in a fog and the only guide we have is our own moral compass.
What I Have Learned
I feel like this course has affirmed many of the ethical principles I have always held. Although,
this is not to say that I did not learn anything. I think that the questions and situations posed in this
class were indeed some of the harder I have ever seen and had been asked to answer. This by
default only serves to broaden my ethical standpoint and fine tune my ethical compass. But at the
same time I feel that I was not able to answer some of the questions without leaving some kind of
shortfall of one party or the other. I think this speaks to the complexity and density of the
situations we were asked to traverse. On the same token I think in some instances we were asked
to circumvent the rules in order to arrive at the best possible answer for the person involved. While
this, in some cases, can deliver a positive outcome it exposes the provider by eliminating certain
safe guards that are meant to protect both client and counselor. These instance need to be taken case
by case and combine with a certain level of finesse in order to deliver positive results. Although these
situations can arise at any given time the must be carefully weighed out and tread through very
lightly.
