Which was the more efficient way to do it–removeseats and hire another bus and driver, or dress the

when logistics affect creativity, and it's the director'sresponsibility to mitigate that. I'm very pleased

Hybridity In The Last Samurai
Each country has a different culture. That culture will thrive on any of its citizens and in use in
their daily life. Sometimes, about the culture of the country also appears in the story of a movie.
One of them is the last Samurai movie. It published in 2003. This movie is about an American epic
historical war film. Nathan Algren as the main character portrays a formerly retired officer of the
United States 7th Cavalry Regiment, who is personal and emotional conflicts bring him into contact
with samurai warriors in the wake of the Meiji Restoration in 19th Century Japan. So, this essay will
discuss about the analysis of the Last Samurai using a theory. Because in this film moot about the
two cultures, which are Japan and the United States. Then the analysis of the film is going to use an
attribute theory of Hybridity in multiculturalism. Hybridity is a theory from Homi. K. Bhabha. Here
is the analysis about the Last Samurai movie, according to the Hybridity theory.
First, it will describe about the movie. Nathan Algren is an American civil war veteran who carries
moral scars of his victory against the native Indians. Because of that experience, he feels guilt and
covers it by drink alcohol horrendous acts in society. Then, his old commander drags him into
meeting Prince Mitsui, a Japanese...show more content...
It means that culture in hybridity stand in the place after the mixing of two parts from different
cultures. The concept of hybridization is predicated upon the ever–changing location of culture and,
most importantly, offers the possibility of repositioning. Bhabha's concept of the hybrid within three
distinct parameters: the colonial stereotype, the mimic, and the implicit power of written texts. Then,
the core of the theory of hybridists by Bhaha is "less than one and double". This quotations point out
that hybridity in multiculturalism is a culture that arises from the combination of two different

The Last Samurai Think about your friends, family, and your loved ones for a second. Think about
what luxuries you have and how you have come to love them. Doesn't it make you feel blessed and
lucky to be who you are? Now imagine being thrown onto enemy territory, a lonely and dangerous
place with nothing. In order to survive you must communicate with the enemy and learn to live their
way–the total opposite culture you hate. In the movie, The Last Samurai, the author portrays a Civil
War veteran, Captain Algren, commander and trainer of Japan's new technology–efficient military.
His task is to defeat a rebellion of the remaining Samurai in Japan. After Algren is captured, he is
taken into their village as an information tool. He begins to...show more content...
The environment containing all this noise from both parties is the main contributor to the horrible
communication. No message is getting to each of the communicators, and they are worse off from
where they started. According to a journal on Students' Classroom Communication Effectiveness, it
states that if people are more effective communicators in terms of involvement, responsiveness, and
assertiveness, they are generally cited with greater affective learning, indicators, and motivation to
act (Frymier 212). A little more into the movie, Katsumoto and Algren start to communicate like
civilized people–brothers almost. They learned that arguing will not get them anywhere, and need to
take appropriate actions. In accordance with scholarly journal, "Why Nurses Need High
Self–Esteem", the definition of self–esteem has two parts (Dekkers 2). First, self–esteem is
mastery–orientated rather than achievement–orientated. Meaning, the central issue of self–esteem is
to master abilities rather than to pursue goals as effortlessly as possible. This will make a person
feel better overall. Second, it monitors a person's suitability for membership of desired groups and
relationships. A scene took place where a young samurai got caught in an area he wasn't supposed
to be in. The police officers made a fool of him and kicked him down to the ground. They then
began cut off his top knot, which is a tradition in the Samurai culture. It was an egobuster to the
samurai–they

The Last Samurai Essay
"The Last Samurai" is a film centered around the idea of journeying physically, spiritually,
emotionally and mentally. We witness these journeys not only through observations of a character
going through a personal transformation but a whole culture around him who is likewise in turmoil.
This film allows us to join in on an adventure and journey of the character, the world he enters and
the people he meets.
The story is based on a time just after the Civil War, a time when the modern western world which
had just encroached upon the American West, condemning the Native American, began to engulf
traditional Japan as well. The purpose of this film is to give a voice to these people, to share in their
struggles and experiences and be...show more content...
This idea of a physical journey is easily conveyed through the use of scenery. We get to witness the
extent of the physical journey by viewing the changing environment. This technique is something
that not only highlights the actual physical journey, but the extent of the changes that the protagonist
is going through in relation to his changing situations. This technique is achieved most effectively by
the camera shots used, in particular the use of cinematography and indeed panning.
Throughout the film we are taken on the heroic journey of the powerful character of Captain
Nathan Algren, a person who travels a great distance, literally and figuratively to find himself and
his values. Captain Algren emerges as a truly tormented figure, a man who has lost faith, an
extremely vulnerable figure, not your typical stock movie hero. He is a lost soul searching to find
his way. Edward Zwick allows you to witness this journey through his use of gradual development
throughout the film. As the character discovers, so do you and so on. You are therefore just that bit
closer personally to each of the characters, and their journey.
Edward Zwick the director has used the technique of characterisation

The Samurai
One of the most interesting aspects of Japanese history is the Samurai. The samurai era lasted for
1,000 years until the middle of the 19th century, and their original role was to protect and guard the
Emperor, and enforce his rule. The Emperor's need for samurai arises from the fact that Japan was
difficult for a central government to rule due to the amount of remote villages, and mountains
separating the country. The samurai is regarded today as some of the most powerful warriors of
history, and one of the reasons for that is their lack of fear of death. This lack of fear was shown
when samurais who lost in battle attempted to disembowel themselves with a sword. Though
fearsome warriors the batttles samuri fought were not only for the glory,

The Last Samurai
"The perfect blossom is a rare thing. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not
be a wasted life" (Zwick). These are the words of Katsumoto, an important samurai warrior. The
movie The Last Samurai directed by Edward Zwick is about an American War Captain named
Nathan Algren who is hired to train, lead and modernize a group of Japanese soldiers to defeat a
rebellion of the country's remaining Samurai in 1876. Algren is captured by the Samurai and soon
becomes part of the village he is being held hostage in. There, Algren learns from the Samurai and
comes to respect them. He finds that his true warrior is becoming unleashed as he trains to become
a Samurai with the very people we once called his...show more content...
Another example is the final battle that was between the samurai and the modernized army. As a
whole, this battle can be seen as old Japan against new Japan. The samurai represent the old Japan
because they are fighting for traditional customs and trying to keep things the way they are. The
modernized army represents new Japan because they are using weapon technology from the
west. The samurais are trying to protect old beliefs. They are devoted to the old ways that their
ancestors followed. A third example is when Katsumoto, Algren, and all the other samurai ride
horses into the city to go to the council. The reason for their visit was to protest about the
modernization of Japan. The samurai did not like the fact that the Emperor is going to disturb old
traditions for western ways. The samurai felt that their own ways are pure and that is what makes
them truly Japanese. Another example is when the emperor refuses to sign the trade agreement.
Emperor Meiji said this, "I dreamed of a unified Japan. Of a country strong and independent and
modern... And now we are awake. We have railroads and cannon and Western clothing. But we
cannot forget who we are. Or where we come from"(Zwick). He is refusing to sign the treaty
because he wants to preserve the old ways of Japan (Zwick). Another major aspect of imperialism
that appears throughout the movie is ethnocentricity, like how the Japanese did not like

The Samurai's Tale
The Samurai's tale was an exciting novel by Erik Christian Haugaard that managed to fit romance
into the brutal conflict of the struggle for the title of Emperor. This story was very hard to put down
but in the end, was very satisfying. One thing that caught my attention at first was the
Acknowledgements in the beginning of the book. The author had spent an entire year in Kofu,
Japan, studying the Takeda family. He also acquired more knowledge on japan from his friends
whom him wish to not disappoint when writing this story. The story takes place in Japan during the
16th century. He mentioned that it was due to his friends and his professor that he was able to write
this story. TheSamurai's tale is about a boy whose parents were killed

Throughout the film we are taken on the heroic journey of the powerful character of Captain Nathan Algren, a person who travels a great distance, literally and figuratively to find himself and his values. Captain Algren emerges as a truly tormented figure, a man who has lost faith, an extremely vulnerable figure, not your typical stock movie hero. He is a lost soul searching to find his way. Edward Zwick allows you to witness this journey through his use of gradual development throughout the film. As the character discovers, so do you and so on. You are therefore just that bit closer personally to each of the characters, and their journey. • 6. The Samurai One of the most interesting aspects of Japanese history is the Samurai. The samurai era lasted for 1,000 years until the middle of the 19th century, and their original role was to protect and guard the Emperor, and enforce his rule. The Emperor's need for samurai arises from the fact that Japan was difficult for a central government to rule due to the amount of remote villages, and mountains separating the country. The samurai is regarded today as some of the most powerful warriors of history, and one of the reasons for that is their lack of fear of death. This lack of fear was shown when samurais who lost in battle attempted to disembowel themselves with a sword. Though fearsome warriors the batttles samuri fought were not only for the glory, Get more content on HelpWriting.net
  • 7. The Last Samurai Essay The Last Samurai "The perfect blossom is a rare thing. You could spend your life looking for one, and it would not be a wasted life" (Zwick). These are the words of Katsumoto, an important samurai warrior. The movie The Last Samurai directed by Edward Zwick is about an American War Captain named Nathan Algren who is hired to train, lead and modernize a group of Japanese soldiers to defeat a rebellion of the country's remaining Samurai in 1876. Algren is captured by the Samurai and soon becomes part of the village he is being held hostage in. There, Algren learns from the Samurai and comes to respect them. He finds that his true warrior is becoming unleashed as he trains to become a Samurai with the very people we once called his...show more content... Another example is the final battle that was between the samurai and the modernized army. As a whole, this battle can be seen as old Japan against new Japan. The samurai represent the old Japan because they are fighting for traditional customs and trying to keep things the way they are. The modernized army represents new Japan because they are using weapon technology from the west. The samurais are trying to protect old beliefs. They are devoted to the old ways that their ancestors followed. A third example is when Katsumoto, Algren, and all the other samurai ride horses into the city to go to the council. The reason for their visit was to protest about the modernization of Japan. The samurai did not like the fact that the Emperor is going to disturb old traditions for western ways. The samurai felt that their own ways are pure and that is what makes them truly Japanese. Another example is when the emperor refuses to sign the trade agreement. Emperor Meiji said this, "I dreamed of a unified Japan. Of a country strong and independent and modern... And now we are awake. We have railroads and cannon and Western clothing. But we cannot forget who we are. Or where we come from"(Zwick). He is refusing to sign the treaty because he wants to preserve the old ways of Japan (Zwick). Another major aspect of imperialism that appears throughout the movie is ethnocentricity, like how the Japanese did not like Get more content on HelpWriting.net
