Research Paper On Coco Chanel
Aashna Gheewalla
Entrepreneurship
Ms. Jordan
28 February 2017Coco Chanel
Coco Chanel stated In order to be irreplaceable one must always be different. Coco Chanel was
born on August 19, 1883 in Saumur France. Her birth name is Gabrielle Bonheur Chanel. Gabrielle
has had a difficult childhood. Coco s mother passed away due to suffering asthma. After her mother
s death, Chanel and two her sisters were sent to an orphanage and her two brother were sent to a
farm to become laborers. At the orphanage, Coco learned the basics of sewing. Along with
learning how to sew she also got a basic education at the orphanage. In order to make money,
Gabrielle worked as a singer in a coffee shop. That is where Gabrielle obtained her nickname
Coco. This nickname stuck with her throughout the rest of her career. In Chanel s early 20s, she
got into a relationship with a French, ex cavalry officer, and wealthy textile Г‰tienne Balsan.
He assisted her in making her dream come true by helping her open her first fashion shop on
Paris s Rue Cambon in 1910 followed by another in the resort town of Deauville. She started
selling stylish hats in her shop. Balsan financially allowed Coco to start to follow her dreams. With

Chanel was very confident. She broke all the current rules of fashion without doubting herself and
believing she would make it. Chanel also had a set vision. She knew exactly what she wanted and
made sure she got it. She was extremely determined. Coco Chanel was also very innovative. She
always found new ways to take fashion to the next level. For example, she used men s fabrics to
make women s clothing in a time period where women s clothing was very conservative. These
positive characteristics may have contributed to the fact that she did not have any failures.Putting
all of these traits together helped Coco Chanel become as successful as she

He also struggles with relationships with his classmates and has trouble interpreting the social
emotional aspects of his life. He has failed at many friendships and often gets frustrated with his
inability to establish and maintain true relationships that contribute to his self awareness, self
management and responsible decisions. Informal Assessment As a counselor, it is expected that the
results of the assessments completed in order to extract information that can impact or direct the
therapeutic programming for the client. The purpose of informal assessment is to allow the
counsellor to better understand the needs of the client and identify the client s willingness and
readiness for change. It is the duty of the counsellor to know their client and choose an appropriate
assessment that their client will understand (France, Rodriguez Hett, 2013). It is important that
early in the initial interview process, the client identifies their goals and the counsellor determines
where they are on the stages of change model. This model consists of a continuum with six marks;
pre contemplation, contemplation, preparation, action, maintenance and termination (Gersten,
2013). Milhouse is in the contemplation stage as he is ready to make a change. He has identified
two goals that he would like to work on which include making friends and he would like to stop
feeling like he can t succeed. His parents have recognized that their son struggles with

Women In Erdrich s Love Medicine
There are many powerful women in Erdrich s novel Love Medicine that play crucial roles in the
function and development of the story. They shape the lives of not only their children but also
their men, some of whom are leaders of the reservation they call home. There are three particular
women that stand out due to their immense strength, struggling pasts, and family roles: Marie,
Rushes Bear, and Lulu. These women independently raise their families with little to no help
from the men in their lives. First of these three to share her story is Marie. Her torturous
childhood experience in the Sacred Heart Convent was one of her many struggles. In reference to
the Dark One, who we assume is the devil, Marie says, I only shrugged at the flowers of hell. He
wanted me. More than anything... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
As previously noted, she is passionate and power hungry. There isn t as much on her
background as the other two women, but she has a lot of interaction with Marie, as her mother
in law, and Lulu, as her aunt. According to Marie, she caused quite a bit of extra financial
troubles for their family. While she s shopping, she says, . . . we needed money for the special
things that Rushes Bear liked (96). Towards the beginning of the story she seems rude and
selfish, but as the plot progresses, a softer more sensitive side to her is revealed. Rushes Bear
helps Marie deliver her baby, and after seeing all the pain Marie went through, she stands up for
her while Rushes Bear s son, Nector, is showing no compassion for Marie. She confronts her son
by saying, I only have a daughter. . . You never heard any wail out of her, any complaint. You
never would know this birth was hard enough for her to die (101). This shows that if a woman can
relate to another, they will stand by them; these women protect each other even though they have
their differences. Rushes Bear is a strong woman that knows what she wants and can take care of
herself, and she sees that in

In A Father Who Keeps His Promises Written By Scott Hahn,
In A Father Who Keeps His Promises written by Scott Hahn, his thorough commentary and
illustration of the Old Testament is examined. The Novel begins with the depiction of a severe
earthquake in 1989 that killed tens of thousands, which offers us a peek at the perfection of our
Heavenly Father. Hahn continuing, he begins to explain the meaning of a covenant, following with
the significant differences that a contract and covenant have between them. After, there is an
exploration by Hahn on the topic of fathers who are not in heaven. Then he states most likely the
greatest point of his entire novel that is summarized into this quote. I want to help you catch a
vision of a very different kind of father, the eternal who never fails to... Show more content on

The book is then further continued with the exploration of creation and desecration. When it
comes to the creation of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden a so called set of guidelines
were put in place for Adam and Eve to live by. A part of those rules were that could only eat from
the tree of life and not from the tree of knowledge. Adam and Eve violated that which resulted in
the breaking of the covenant and ate from the tree of knowledge because Satan tempted them.
Although the couple had gone entirely against God s words, God promised them a savior from
Satan. However a curse was inflicted on Adam and Eve by God to show the love he had for
them. In Hahn s novel he explains why God would inflict the suffering that he imposed on Adam
and Eve: Once the nature of Adam s sin is understood to be his refusal to suffer out of lovefor his
Father and bride, three conclusions logically follow. First, the divine curse of suffering imposed
on Adam and Eve was perfectly reasonable. Second, their humble acceptance of that punitive
suffering would be remedial. Third, Christ s bearing of this curse, in his own sacrificial suffering
on the cross, would prove to be redemptive. (73) Furthermore, the history of the covenants is gone
into in more depth. He continues with the story of Cain giving into the deadly sin of envy on his
way to kill his own brother. God declared that Noah is also a major covenant and that

My Dad s heart attack.
You ever sit there and get that weird feeling in your gut ? That feeling that something isn t right ?
Yeah it sucks waking up to that feeling and having it the whole day. It turns out something wasn

your average text. It was a text that would make your heart drop down to your stomach. The text
said hey dads in the hospital, I don t know what s wrong but Herman and Danielle are there already

That felt like the longest last 3 hours of school. Nothing else was coming to my mind, nothing
was getting processed properly. It was all a blurr to me. I wanted to think it was a dream but no
this is reality. It hit me so hard. It felt like a big hit. Like someone just tackles you and knocks the
air out of you. That s when things started to change up a bit. All the bad things running through
my mind made me start to panick. My friends started to worry so they tried their best to keep me
calm until I left school. Finally school was over.
As I was picked up the bad thoughts started to run through my head again, this time it seem like
it was worse. The closer we got to the hospital the more I became weak. I didn t know what to
expect to be honest. I tried to prepare myself for the worse. As we entered the hospital and went
to the emergency room, I walked into a lobby full of family, as I walked in my brother got me up
to date with what s going on. So I sat there patiently with my family, we all waited with
anticipation for the doctor to deliver the news. As hours passed we finally got to talk to a nurse.
She told us that the doctor would be coming out soon to get us updated with what s wrong with my
dad. When he finally came out he told us that everything was going to be okay, but if my dad
would have came two minutes later he would have died. Man oh man that hit us all hard. But he

Informative Essay On Kelseyton Manning
There is a quote that I feel connected very well: The universe is always speaking to us...sending us
little messages, causing coincidences and serendipities, reminding us to stop, look around, to
believe in something else, something more. In order for us to connect to the world we all have to
understand that more than we think is connected, if we think about it everything can be connected
in some way. Specifically this essay will ultimately connect NFL superstar Peyton Manningall the
way to why the birth cycle we have came to exist. A perfect Sunday afternoon watching the
greatest NFL Quarterback in history, Peyton Manning. Peyton Manning is probably not only my

very next year Manning passed Brett Favre (Green Bay Packers legendary Quarterback) for most

How Did Hagia Sophia Change Over Time

Constantinople, a great city founded by Constantine the Great, was an advantageous site which lied
between Europe and Asia with strategic importance. Acropolis or the City of Byzantion, a Greek
city, had already been established in 7th century B.C. long before Constantinople was founded.
Around 2nd century AD the city fell into the Romans and became the Roman city of Byzantium.
Constantine became the sole emperor(* time period) of the Roman Empire and this city was chosen
as his new capital and became known as New Rome or Constantinople.
It was during his reign that Hagia Sophia, the Church of the Holy Wisdom of God, became the
grand building seen today.

Time as a mosque
In 1453 AD, the Ottoman troops led by Sultan Mehmet II after more than a month in siege. When
the city was conquered, the fate of Hagia Sophia changed along with the city. One of the first
changes the sultan made was to convert Hagia Sophia church into a mosque. It was named Aya
Sofya and the change became the first step to convert Christianized Constantinople to an Islamic
city.
Numerous changes befitting a mosque were made to the building.
Islam forbids images and virtual representation of figures. So of course when Hagia Sophia was
changed into a mosque, all the mosaics and figures were covered with plaster. They were still kept
intact however. The sultan apparently loved and valued the art and ordered that the mosaics and the
visual depictions relating to Christianity were to be kept instead of being taken down.
Minarets, another necessity in a mosque, were added in separate times. The first sultan to rule
Constantinople, Sultan Mehmet II(*) added in the first minaret. Sultan Bayezid added another in
and Sinan, a famous architect, under the reign of Sultan Murad III added in the last 2 minarets.

Gold Seeking Miners
The thought of expanding the U.S. more made the citizens somewhat nervous. Nervous of what
lays ahead, the dangers, unknown animals, different weather, and some of the unfriendly natives

rumored gold. The point of my paper is to give you an idea of what it was like for these brave
people to migrate west. What they went through, what they found, and if they accomplished. The
Mormons were a group of people that believed in God in a different way than the way most God

Adventurous, brave families went west seeking gold and a new start. The Gold Seeking Miners
had many conflicts surrounding them. They had poor food supply, exhaustion, and disease
creeping around them damaging their health. Miners had to pay really high amounts of money
to get the most basic tools they needed to work with. There was a lot of greed, anger, and
prejudice among the miners. There were all kinds of miners, not all of them were American, there
were Mexicans and Chinese miners too. At the beginning of the Gold Seek, it was easy to find
gold but, then when it started getting a bit harder to find, the American miners had to force the
Chinese and Mexican miners out. They had no other choice than to kick them out because they

uninsured which sum to about 6% of the total population of the state (Raymond, 2007). Health care
is one of the key needs that any person is required to have. Since it comes at a cost, health insurance
is always a platform to ease the hustle here and there. The health insurance law, chapter 58, was

This move that was taken by the Massachusetts state has lots of advantages as far as the healthy
well being of the residents is taken into considerations. Some of the top advantages include:
1.Improved Health care
A state that comes up with legislations that are to ensure that all its residents have access to
health care insurance is a state that has health as pillar at its heart. The approach is one of the
effective ones in ensuring that all the residents have access to proper and affordable healthcare
services. When the health care is made accessible to everyone, the entire state of healthcare will
be greatly improved. Having improved healthcare is always a priority and a desire to very many
not only states but even countries across the globe.
2.Control Over Health Services
The state through its laws that were implement safeguards the residents from exploitation by
people who have the aim of making more money from the gap that did exist. The law stipulates the
premium rates through a board which is renewed on an annual basis. This also helps in bringing
order in all matters to do with health care insurance.

The Prolonged Identity Crisis Economic Difference of East and West Germany
In February of 1945, the Nazi Germans got defeated and soon surrendered to the allied powers.
Germany s nation was split between the four allied powers: United States, Great Britain, Soviet
Union, and France. In addition, the capital city of Berlin was also divided amongst the Allied
Powers into four sections. However, tensions among the Western Powers and Soviet Union caused
a shift into a Cold War. In 1949, Germany and the city of Berlin got divided into two nations in
which became known as the West and East Germany. West Germany is known as the Federal
Republic of Germany (FRG) and is supported by the three Western Powers. East Germany is known
as the German Democratic Republic (GDR) and is governed by the Soviet Union. The Western
Powers and the Soviet Union created different philosophy within the territories that they governed.
Each of the territory has its own identity, economy outlook, and lifestyle.
East Germany and West Germany struggles to identify their social identity because of the
reconstruction of the German society guided by the Western Powers and Soviet Union. The GDR
was closely monitored by the Soviets and FRG was overseen by the Western Powers. As tensions
increased more and more during the Cold War, the major powers sought to form a national identity
to the divide not only Germany, but also the people. The German

Economic recession
A recession is a general slowdown in economic activity over a period of time which is longer than a
few months. During recessions many factors are affected such as; employment, investment
spending, household incomes, business profits, bankruptcies and the rise in unemployment rates.
Governments usually respond to recessions by increasing money supplies, increasing government
spending and decreasing taxes.
In 2008 the UK went into a recession, this had a major effect on the value and volume of inbound
and domestic tourism in the UK as visitor numbers fell during the year 2009 as a result of the
recession.
In 2007 the UK received 32.7 million visitors, this fell to 31.8 million in 2008 and fell further again

The Welfare Of Foreign Workers
The welfare of foreign workers in Singapore is not taken care of seriously. Welfare refers to a
person or a groups happiness, health and well being. In this essay, I will be looking it from three
different perspectives of why the welfare is not taken care of seriously. Firstly, the treatment they
received, next, the food they eat and lastly the living conditions that they stay in.
In Singapore, there are around 1.32 million of foreign workers. Majority take up low skilled
jobs, for example construction workers and domestic helpers. These jobs are called the 3D jobs,
which means it is dirty, dangerous and difficult. They act as an invisible backbone to many well
developing and fast growing economic countries as they build our houses and roads which are
essential in a country. As they take up jobs that Singaporeans are not willing to do, we are obliged
to treat them better. Or at least give them the basic rights and respect. However, people do not treat
them the way they should.
There are many incidents of people mistreating foreign workers in Singapore. This includes not
giving them enough dignity and also abuse. In Unattended Foreign Maid, Migrant Workers
Singapore (2009), it mentions that a poster was pasted outside a local food court, with the words
THIS IS NOT THE WAITING AREA FOR FOREIGN MAID.UNATTENDED FOREIGN MAID

Essay On Mass Customization
Chapter 7: Mass customization of products has become a common approach in manufacturing
organizations. Explain the ways in which mass customization can be applied to service firms as
well. While mass customization is a viable option in manufacturing with digital factories and
employing lean manufacturing designs, service firms have to employ a more productive
environment to make mass customization profitable. Mass customization refers to using mass
production technologies to quickly and cost effectively assemble goods that are uniquely designed
to fit the demands of individual customers (Daft, 2016, p. 271). The key challenge for service mass
customization is to translate information about consumer preferences gained through market
research into a format that can be easily used for service modularization decisions and customer
contact personnel training (Haas Kunz, n.d., p. 603). In the service arena, mass customization
becomes an ongoing configuration process with direct involvement of the customer coupled with
professional advice by service personnel who understand the configuration rules and know them by
heart. A clear understanding of the customer s needs is required, as well as a requirement by service
personnel to provide the customer clear and concise configuration options that strike the perfect
balance between flexibility and complexity. Also, a continuous interaction between frontline contact
personnel and the customer is a consequence that must be

It s not that I m so smart, it s just that I stay with problems longer, by Albert Einstein. By
persevering and not giving up, success can be reached. Perseverance is one of the themes in the
novel October Sky . This book revealed the life of a young boy, Homer Hickam Jr., also called
Sonny, who fought for his dream of building rockets against all odds amongst a small mining
town. As time elapsed in the novel, Sonny matured and learned many lessons about rocketry and
life, such as pursuing a dream, the influence of an important person, personal ambition versus
loyalty to someone else... Amongst all the important themes in the novel, persevering against all
odds is the most important one. The Rocket Boys faced countless failure and errors during their
rocket building. With almost no support from the rest of the town, the Rocket Boys had barely any
resource when they started. Living in a town full of miners, building rockets received criticism and
mocking from townspeople and even his family.... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first rocket Sonny ever built has blown his mother s rose garden fence down and caused a
chaos. Most of the early attempts exploded before even lifting off the launching pad. One of the

purposes. The Rocket Boys examine each rocket carefully after it was launched to enhance their
new rocket design base on their failures. With him(Quentin), no matter what happened, I felt
scientific. Failure, after all, just added to our body of knowledge.

Difference Between Pinterest And Annotated Bibliography
Juxtaposing research via pinterest and annotated bibliography, taught me how social media can
be used as an academic resource and how to adequately identify credible sources for an annotated
bibliography. Also learning to use databases made it easy to find and identify reliable scholarly
sources. Though I was familiar with citing sources, I had always used a web based citation
formulator. Therefore learning MLA 8th edition was a completely new experience. The rigidity and
technicality used to scare me, but the system makes sense now that I have a comprehensive
understanding. While learning to create an annotated bibliography, I encountered a few mechanical
errors. I did not use a hanging indent for the bibliography and thus had to learn... Show more

The expository writing style for the annotated bibliography asks the researcher to explain the
article/source while developing its credibility. In the academic world this allows other colleagues
to pinpoint where certain information was collected. The writing within the entry is direct,
lacking the color or vibrancy of the Pinterest board. The writing style for Pinterest is hard to
narrow down as a variety of media can be pinned. However, if we look directly at our classes
board we can see that the style communicates the information in a linguistically brief and concise
manner, while the visuals do most of the explanation. In the bibliography there are no visuals,
forcing the reader to rely solely on the annotated explanation.
The information in an annotated bibliography is built upon scholarly review and recognition by
those in a similar designated field of study. In Pinterest, the first pins on the board set the tone,
and the floodgates open for a rush of ideas. This collaborative nature allows the research to move
as a group conversation among individuals of all backgrounds . Given the popular appeal and
brevity of Pinterest s language, it may not be applicable for very specific topics. (I m researching

Cost of Capital
Cost of Capital
Definition: cost of capital is the rate of return that a company must earn on its project investments
to maintain its market value and attract funds. The cost of capital to a company is the minimum
rate of return that is must earn on its investments in order to satisfy the various categories of
investors, who have made investments in the form of shares , debentures and loans. The cost of
capital in operational terms refers to the discount rate that would be used in determining the present
value of the estimated future cash proceeds and eventually deciding whether the project is worth

* Marginal cost of capital Marginal cost of capital is the weighted average cost of new funds
raised by the firm. For capital budgeting and financing decisions, the marginal cost of capital is the
most important factor to be considered.
Cost of debt : Cost of debt is the interest rate that the company pays on its debt content of the
capital structure. It can be measured as before tax cost of debt or after tax cost of debt. Tax plays
an important role as the debenture interest expense is allowed as an expense for tax purposes.
Debt may be issued at par, at premium or at a discount. It may be irredeemable or redeemable.
Cost of Irredeemable debt: Irredeemable debentures are those debentures issuing by which the
company has no obligations to pay back the value of the debenture on some fixed date or time and
has the full authority to choose any time to pay back the debt until the company is a going entity
and does not default in it s interest payments. So we take into account only the sale value (SV)
while evaluating the cost of irredeemable debentures.
Cost of Redeemable debt: For redeemable debentures, the maturity date is fixed initially. The
meaning redeemable denotes that the debentures would be redeemed by the company at a fixed
date or after a specified period of notice. So, we take the average of Sale Value and Redeemable
value while calculating the cost of redeemable debentures.

The sea is known for its violent storms because of the difference in temperatures. Hills and
mountains that reach nearly 2,000 feet high on the east side bound the sea. Another contributing
factor to the storms is that the Sea of Galilee is only about 200 feet at its deepest, which causes
the wind to create violent waves. The Sea of Galilee is where Jesus performed many of His
miracles. Four of apostles Peter, Andrew, James, and John came to Jesus after he stilled a
ragging storm; this is also, where Jesus and Peter walked on water. The Sea of Galilee also is the
backdrop for feeding 5,000 people with only a loaf of bread and two fish. This is also, where
Mary of Magdala was from. The Sea of Galilee is present throughout the Bible it is referenced in
Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Number, Deuteronomy, Joshua, and 1 Kings.

Essay on Symbolism In Tennessee William s The Glass...
Symbolism In Tennessee William s The Glass Menagerie
Symbolism is a major aspect in Tennessee William s famous play, The Glass Menagerie. On the
surface, the short slice of life story seems to be simple. However, if the reader digs deeper they will
find that there are several symbols that give the play a deeper meaning. Each character defines each
symbol in a different way. Aside from character symbols, there is overall symbolism in this play.
It is set in a memory, so it creates a soft, dream like setting. This lends to the whole idea behind the
play that the characters are unable to function in reality. None of the characters are capable of
living in the present. All of the characters retreat into their separate worlds to ... Show more content

original state symbolizes something different. It is delicate, beautiful, and precious in it s own
unique way. This could symbolize Laura has natural beauty in an unearthly way that is hidden by
her shyness and limp.
When Laura starts to talk to Jim, she gets more confidence in herself and realizes that she is not
that different from everyone else in the world. The horn symbolizes a difference, an obstacle to be
overcome and admired. (Ross) Like Laura has to overcome her shyness and limp to become like
everyone else, the unicorn loses its difference.
The fire escape is a major symbol in this play. It represents a different symbol for each character.
For Amanda, the fire escape is a way for her to be protected from the outside world, or reality.
She cannot live in the present, and the lack of a front door makes it easy for her to avoid real life.
She convinces herself that she isn t capable of leaving the safe haven she has created by locking
herself inside the strange apartment. She has become trapped by her memories.
Laura uses the fire escape as a symbol in a similar way. She, too, is protected from the outside

extra effort for Laura to overcome her limp and get out into the world using the fire escape,

The Ministry Of Catholic Educations
The Ministry of Catholic Educations says that youth ministry is a response to the mission entrusted
by Christ. God told his disciples in Matthew chapter twenty eight verse nineteen Go and make
disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy
Spirit. And youthministryis one of the many ways the Catholic Church is doing this.
As stated in the Occupational Outlook Handbook, recreational workers create programs that can be
altered to specific age groups. Being a youth minister you encounter many different things. Like
recreational workers, youth minister put together programs for both middle school and high
school. The Arch Dioceses send a lesson plan of what the students should know by the end of the
year. The youth ministers will then branch together similar topics and make that the main focus for
the night. The themes revolve around the four pillars of the Catholic Church. According to the
Catechism of the Catholic Church these four pillars are faith, liturgy and sacraments, morality of
our life and prayer. This program is a fun an interesting way to bring these teenagers to Christ. A
typical night starts with snacks and games to start building a community and then officially starts
with a prayer. One of the reasons we pray is to calculate disengagement which is transitioning the
students into a more prayerful mode for the rest of the night. After prayer we go into a talk
prepared by the minister and sometimes having a

characterized by their own professional relationship including their own unique features in
accomplishing goals. In this paper, I will examine their differences and similarities within the
context of interrelationship.
A nurse patient relationship is the basic requirements in all practice settings. Its usage is to manage
communication between an organization and a public while maintaining boundaries in the
therapeutic relationship. Based on Peplau s interpersonal theory, communication takes place in a
nurse client relationship where therapeutic process occurs involving complex factors such as
environment, attitudes, practices, and beliefs in the dominant culture (seu.edu, 2015). The actions
of each person in a nurse patient relationship is measured on the collaboration of their thoughts,
feelings, and experiences. Nurse s work to attain, maintain, and restore the patient s health until
patient have fulfilled the health care needs. Patient must be guided and provided a well respected
environment until a better health and specific needs are fully considered in the relationship. In this
kind of setting, nurse s must create relationship with patients by communicating receptivity,
assimilating the concepts of empathy, trust, genuineness, respect, and confidentiality into their
interactions.

Essay on The Outsiders
The Outsiders
The Outsiders is written by S.E. Hinton. It is set in the 1960s in a town in the USA. It is about
the conflict of the two main teenager gangs called the Socs (short for Socials) and the Greasers.
The Socs live on the West side where they live a supposedly better life with everything that they
want and the Greasers live on the East side with nothing much but anger and jealousy about the
Socs who always seem to be privileged in every way. The conflict(a state of disharmony between
incompatible or antithetical persons, ideas, or interests; a clash.) remains strong because of the
dissatisfaction of the opposing gangs with their lives.

Greasers and Socs will still be Socs. Sometimes I think that it s the ones in the middle who are the
lucky stiffs. (Randy, Ch.7, page 125)
Cherry and Randy humanize the Socs when talking to Pony, explaining the things to him so that he
understands that the Socs might not be as lucky as he used to think they were.
Although there is conflict between the Socs and the Greasers, there is also conflict between the
individuals in the novel. Darry often blames things on Pony for his lack of common sense, while
Pony thinks that
Darry is a natural leader of the Greasers but really bossy and nagging him all the time. Pony always

Erica Fryberg
Friendships is a poem by Erica Fryberg that can relate to almost anybody who has experienced
real and fake friendships, as it is about the speaker s perspective on friendships, and the difference
between having real and fake friends, forced friendships and real friendships. Through a
comparison of friendships and furniture, the poet uses a humorous tone to describe friendships,
making the speaker relatable. I particularly enjoyed this, as on a personal level I was able to relate
to this, as a student at a school where teachers attempted to force unnatural relationships multiple
times. Overall, this poem was an engaging poem, which, through language and poetic devices,
clearly described the difference between real and fake friendships.
As the title implies, the subject matter of this poem are friendships, and real and fake friends.
The first stanza describes how forced friendships are often fake, and are only an idealized image
of real friendships, made only for the purpose of pleasing the teacher. Through a comparison of
furniture and friendships, the poet depicts the fakeness of the forced friendships, and how they
seem polished and shine like glass, yet are also easily shattered. On a personal level, this

Memory and Reality in Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie
Memory and Reality in Tennessee Williams The Glass Menagerie
Being a memory play, it is dimly lighted, it is sentimental, it is not realistic . To what degree is the
play memory and to what degree is it realistic?
When a play employs unconventional techniques, it is not trying to escape its responsibility of
dealing with reality, or interpreting experience, but is actually attempting to find a closer approach,
a more penetrating and vivid expression of things as they are (Tennessee Williams). The Glass
Menagerie is one of Tennessee Williams most eminent works and no doubt qualifies as a classic of

Despite being a memory play , the basis and content of The Glass Menagerie is truth and reality
as Williams attempts to find a closer approach, a more penetrating and vivid expression of things
as they are . This basis of reality is evident in the play s setting, as The Glass Menagerie is
presented with great fidelity to the social and historical realities of the time. This is demonstrated
from the play s beginning as Tom reverses time to that quaint period, the thirties , and juxtaposes
the turmoil in Spain to the uneasy peace in America, in an allusion to the forthcoming war (World
War II). There are other allusions to the war throughout the play, such as in Tom s closing speech
as he claims the world is lit by lightning . It is clear that the historical realities of the time are
effectively conveyed in the play, although it is not only the war related realities of the time that
Williams highlights.
Williams presentation of the social realities of the period is clear with the bleak lower middle
class life in America, portrayed by the Wingfield family. This is most evident in the way that Laura,
Amanda and Tom each develop their own methods of

Legal Hustler
My Life as a Legal Hustler That moment when you realize your mother will not give you any

The Doctrine Of Judicial Law
Before critically analysing the extent to which the doctrine of judicial precedent affects judicial
law making, one must first contemplate what the doctrine of judicial precedent is. The doctrine
is a rule that all lower courts are to be bound by the decision or ratio decidendi of the higher
courts. As a result of this, cases that are alike are decided in a similar way . However, it is not
this simple, as it will be seen throughout this essay that wider circumstances are involved that affect
the judicial law making process. Judicial law making (otherwise known as common law) is judge
made law rather than law set out in statute. The relationship between the two will be evaluated.
Firstly, it is important to outline the types of decisions that are made in courts. Decisions made in
the courts are the starting point of the doctrine of judicial precedentbecause it is these decisions that
binds the courts in subsequent cases. This can help the courts but can also hinder them when
creating common law principles. Two different types of decision making should then be outlined,
these being rule based and reason based decisions. When a decision is made it can either be made
on the strict rules that apply to the situation or on the balance of all relevant reason. Due to the
doctrine, lower courts must take the former approach being bound by the rules established in the
decisions of the higher courts. Rule based decisions are supported by Sir William Blackstone who
observed the

Is the Octoroon a Typical Victorian Melodrama
Is The Octoroon a typical Victorian melodrama? The Oxford English Dictionary defines the genre
of melodrama as, a stage play, usually romantic and sensational in plot , this description certainly
applies to The Octoroon. It was an extremely popular form of stage drama and what I will discover
is whether its themes, content and structure are typical of the Victorian period melodrama. From
the first time it was presented at the start of the nineteenth century, melodrama attracted big
audiences. It started out very popular with the lower classes in society but as the century progressed
melodrama became appreciated by large sections of society(Leaver,444). It usually contained
themes of love, murder and honour. Audiences that went... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This ending shows me that boucicault altered his play to fit the British publics preconceptions
of what a melodrama should be, therefore making it into a standard melodrama for the time. The
fact that the plot in The Octoroon is based around the topic of slavery shows us that it is in
someway different from other melodrama s of the time. Slavery was a hot topic when the
Octoroon was produced and some argue that it is abolitionist in its tone. Victorian melodrama s
while sensational, tended to be centered around more common everyday settings and themes.
Some argue that the play is abolitionist in its tone but I disagree. Boucicault himself denied the
piece was meant to be an anti slavery statement(Degen,173). In a letter to The New York Herald
in December 1859, Boucicault explains that he is not taking sides, I have laid the scene in the
South, and, as slavery is an essential element of society there, insomuch I have been obliged to
admit it into my scheme. . . .I believe the drama to be a proper and very effective instrument in
the discussion of all social matters. . . .It is by such means that the drama can be elevated into the
social importance it deserves to enjoy. Therefore I have involved in The Octoroon sketches of

Child Abuse Is A Social Problem Essay
Child abuse is a social problem that continuously produces a wave of concern. The State of New
Jersey Department of Children and Families explains that Abuse is the physical, sexual or
emotional harm or risk of harm to another child under the age of 18 caused by a parent or other
person who acts as a caregiver for the child (2016). The harsh reality of child abuseand its
consequences is recognized throughout this essay. The cost of child abuse can be understood
through direct and indirect costs. Direct costs describe those of the child welfare system, judicial
and law enforcement, health and mental health systems (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention,
2015). Comparatively, indirect costs apply to much more long term problems/a turn of events the
child victim and their abuser(s) may have. These costs involve the effects abuse has or may have
in regards to education, mental health, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, welfare dependency,
domestic violence, homelessness, juvenile delinquency and adult criminality (New Jersey Child
Assault Prevention, 2015). It costs a substantial amount of money to deal with child abuse.
Moving away from these consequences, it is arguable that children exposed to violence or abuse,
if left unaddressed or ignored, are at an increased risk for emotional and behavioral problems in
the future. They may not be able to express their feelings safely and as a result, may develop
difficulties regulating their emotions (Joyful Heart

A Rhetorical Analysis Of Bring Back Flogging By Jeff Jacoby
In Jeff Jacoby s essay, Bring Back Flogging, he discusses the modern day justice system, and the

America should bring back flogging as an alternate to jailing felons. Jacoby never actually states
this view in a thesis, but it is implied through the evidence given and the general attitude of the
essay. Jacoby begins the essay with an anecdote from the 17 th century. Jacoby says that Bostonian
Puritans would often use flogging as a form of punishmentfor various different crimes as oppose to
other forms of punishment. He also notes that the Puritans would do other things such as branding
with hot irons so that the felon is known. This anecdote is

Why Was Beethoven Important

Why Beethoven? Over the course of this class, one of the main questions that our learning has
consistently traced back to is the question of why we study Beethoven, and why his legacy has
stood the test of time. Regarded as a musical pioneer, Beethoven revolutionized the Classical era,
and his experimental capabilities and distinguishable sound paved the way for the Romantic era.
Although he composed almost 650 pieces, it is universally understood that Beethoven is revered
as far more than a composer. Rather, Beethoven s legacy is that of a performer, a poet, an icon of

Beethoven s childhood was arguably one of the most fascinating and influential periods of his
life. Young Ludwig was raised by an abusive alcoholic father and a neglectful mother. His father,
Johan Van Beethoven, was also his musical mentor, and never actualized Beethoven s potential as
a musician (1). His mother, Maria Magdalena Kerevich, often sent him to school looking so
disheveled that classmates assumed he had no mother (Suchet pg. 21). Despite her neglect,
Beethoven spoke very highly of his mother, and said that she taught him to give back to the world
despite what it may have neglected to give him (1). This empathetic spirit is visible in his music as
well, especially during his compositional period called The End of an Era. This was debatably
the darkest time of Beethoven s life, as he was completely deaf, depressed, and in a dry spell of
composing (1). His brother had also just been diagnosed with a terminal illness, so he took
custody of his nephew Karl, a relationship so tension filled that Karl attempted suicide in 1826 (3).
At this time, one would expect Beethoven to write music expressive of such hardship, but instead
he composed some of his most delightful and uplifting pieces such as Irish folksongs

Figurative Language In The Weary Blues
Alaina Holland
Dr. William Levine
English 2020
9 November 2015 The Weary Blues Langston Hughes The Weary Blues, written by Langston
Hughes and published in 1926, won Hughes his first poetry prize. Hughes is a well known African
American poet who often wrote about the struggles for African Americans during the Harlem
Renaissance, he uses figurative language in the poem to describe loneliness and despair, and the
relationship between the speaker and performer, in order to make the reader better understand the
blues.
Hughes The Weary Blues, the speaker portrays a soul vocalist who sings a tune about how he Ain
t got nobody in all this world, /Ain t got nobody but ma self. While the speaker s race is not clear,
the depiction of the negro artist investigates the distance of blacks in America. All... Show more

The speaker needs to impart his experience to his gathering of people. He utilizes clear dialect to
draw his group of onlookers into his own particular sentiments. He coordinates his own particular
distinct style with that of the performers by yelling O Blues! rehashing expressions and words, and
including melody verses to sing. Hughes uses onomatopoeia in The Weary Blues to imitate the
sounds of blues music. The reader can almost hear the song with such examples as moan, croon,
droning, and thump. The artist is communicating as well, however it s less about what he s
imparting and more about how he does it. He could simply say he has the blues. Rather he conveys
what needs be through non verbal communication, singing, and piano playing. Blues music unites
the speaker and entertainer somehow. The first three lines tells us they share a common feeling to
some experience. The singer is at conflict with himself, the blues are a part of him and he can not
stop playing. Both suffer from a result of their experiences in everyday life they call the

Zheng He Research Paper
Born: 1371, Kunyang Subdistrict (North of Present Day Laos)
Died: 1433, Kozhikode (Calicut), India
Circumstances of Death:
It is generally accepted (based on Ming dynasty records) that Zheng He died in 1433 at Calicut in
India during the return leg of the seventh voyage and was buried in Calicut or at sea, although
some theories, based on artifacts associated with him and believed to be from later than 1433,
posit that he died shortly after that voyage in 1434 or early 1435.
Historical Context
Zheng He was an admiral and diplomat who helped to extend the maritime and commercial
influence of China throughout the regions bordering the Indian Ocean.
He commanded seven naval expeditions almost a century before the Portuguese reached India ...

(Fall 1405) Emperor Zhu Di sends Zheng He to lead a maiden voyage across the South China Sea,
heading for present day Vietnam. Zhu Di names Zheng He Admiral, a sign of his immense trust in
the eunuch. Zheng He leads a huge fleet of 27,000 men.
December 1406 Zheng He s fleet arrives in Calicut, India. After a brief stop in Champa and Java,
Zheng He s fleet sails across the Indian Ocean and arrives in Calicut, India, their ultimate
destination. Though the Chinese consider most foreigners to be barbarians, they respect the
citizens of Calicut for their efficient bureaucracy and honesty in trading. They take advantage of the
rich trading opportunities in Calicut.
1431Zheng He leads his final voyage. Zheng He leads his last imperial voyage, his seventh, to the
South China Sea. His journey takes his fleet down the East African coast as far as modern day
Kenya, and they trade for amber with the African people they encounter.

Calicut. His body is later brought back to China, and he is buried on Niushou Hill (Bull s Head

Ronald Reagan s Evil Empire Speech
In May 1981, Soviet leader, Yuri Andropov (a former chairman of the KGB) launched a program
called Operation RYAN ( Nuclear Missile Attack ) a response to the presumption that the United
States would orchestrate an imminent first strike attack. The program focused on compiling
intelligence on supposed contingency plans of the United Statesto launch a nuclear first strike
against the Soviet Union.
On September 14, 1982 President Reagan and Dr. Edward Teller (father of the hydrogen bomb)
held a meeting to discuss how to develop the most effective method of defense against
intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs). Teller wrote Reagan a two page letter in which he
called his research the most important one in strategic military affairs since ... Show more content

This address was given while Congress was debating a resolution in support of a nuclear freeze, a
doctrine supported by the Soviet Union that would have prevented the deployment of U.S. cruise
and Pershing II Missiles in Europe. 1 In this speech, Reagan referred to the Soviet Union as focus
of evil in the modern world, asking that Americans to pray for the salvation of those living in
totalitarian darkness.
A couple of weeks later, on March 23 1983, Reagan proposed the Strategic Defense Initiative. In his
plan, Reagan believed such program would improve the security of the United States while
simultaneously gaining a strategic and technological advantage over the Soviet Union.
The Strategic Defense Initiative (SDI), also known as Star Wars, was first initiated in March 1983
under President Ronald Reagan. The purpose of such a program was to develop a sophisticated anti
ballistic missile system to that would prevent missile attacks from other countries, specifically the
Soviet Union. The Strategic Defense Initiative was the United States response to possible nuclear
attacks from afar. Concerns raised about the program included contravening the anti ballistic missile
(ABM) of the Strategic Arms Limitation Talks () to embark upon groundbreaking research into a
national defense system that could make nuclear weapons

Myotonic Dystrophy Research Paper
Myotonic Dystrophy is the most common form of muscular dystrophy. It is a chronic, multi
system disorder that is characterized by progressive muscle wasting and weakness. Symptoms
include; myotonia (prolonged muscle contractions), the inability to relax certain muscles after
use, slurred speech, temporary locking of jaw, cataracts, abnormalities of the electrical signals
that control the heartbeat, and early balding and infertility in men. There are two major types of
myotonic dystrophy, type 1 and type 2. Many of the symptoms are overlapping, the only
differences are type 1 is generally more severe than type 2 and type 1 affects the lower legs, hands,
neck and face. Whereas, type 2 affects the neck, shoulders, elbows, and hips. Myotonic dystrophy...

This protein may play a role in the communication within cells, especially those of the heart, brain
and skeletal muscles. It is believed that the protein is involved in the communication between cells
and regulates the production and function of important structures inside muscles cells by
interacting with other proteins. The DMPK gene is located on the long arm of chromosome 19 at
position 13.3. It is between base pairs 45,769,708 and 45,782,556 making it 12848 base pairs long.
It consists of a trinucleotide repeat of the nucleotide sequence CTG. Meaning that the nucleotides
CTG are repeated multiple times. In a normal DMPK protein the number of CTG repeats ranges
from 5 34. The mutation that causes myotonic dystrophy is known as trinucleotide repeat
expansion, meaning it increases the number of times CTG is repeated in the gene. People with
myotonic dystrophy can have 50 to 50,000 repeats, the more repeats an individual has the worse
their symptoms are. The increased number of repeats produces an expanded version of mRNA,
which then forms clumps inside the cell that interfere with the production of many other proteins.
These clumps prevent muscle cells and cells in other tissues from functioning

Softball Magical Run Through SCAC Tournament Comes to Close
SAN ANTONIO, Texas The Ladies may have come up short in a bid to win the Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference Tournament, but the Maroon and White sure made their stay a memorable one.
Fifth seeded Centenary (23 22) knocked out sixth seeded Schreiner (9 31) 4 2 and third seeded
Dallas (21 23) 9 0 before falling to top seeded Texas Lutheran (41 3) 10 2 in six innings in the
second day of the SCAC Tournament, hosted by Trinity in San Antonio, Texas.

The Novel begins with the depiction of a severe earthquake in 1989 that killed tens of thousands, which offers us a peek at the perfection of our Heavenly Father. Hahn continuing, he begins to explain the meaning of a covenant, following with the significant differences that a contract and covenant have between them. The book is then further continued with the exploration of creation and desecration. When it comes to the creation of Adam and Eve and the Garden of Eden a so called set of guidelines were put in place for Adam and Eve to live by. A part of those rules were that could only eat from the tree of life and not from the tree of knowledge. Adam and Eve violated that which resulted in the breaking of the covenant and ate from the tree of knowledge because Satan tempted them. Although the couple had gone entirely against God s words, God promised them a savior from Satan. However a curse was inflicted on Adam and Eve by God to show the love he had for them. In Hahn s novel he explains why God would inflict the suffering that he imposed on Adam and Eve: Once the nature of Adam s sin is understood to be his refusal to suffer out of lovefor his Father and bride, three conclusions logically follow. First, the divine curse of suffering imposed on Adam and Eve was perfectly reasonable. Second, their humble acceptance of that punitive suffering would be remedial. Third, Christ s bearing of this curse, in his own sacrificial suffering on the cross, would prove to be redemptive. (73) Furthermore, the history of the covenants is gone into in more depth. In this essay, I will be looking it from three different perspectives of why the welfare is not taken care of seriously. Firstly, the treatment they received, next, the food they eat and lastly the living conditions that they stay in. In Singapore, there are around 1.32 million of foreign workers. Majority take up low skilled jobs, for example construction workers and domestic helpers. These jobs are called the 3D jobs, which means it is dirty, dangerous and difficult. They act as an invisible backbone to many well developing and fast growing economic countries as they build our houses and roads which are essential in a country. As they take up jobs that Singaporeans are not willing to do, we are obliged to treat them better. Or at least give them the basic rights and respect. However, people do not treat them the way they should. There are many incidents of people mistreating foreign workers in Singapore. This includes not giving them enough dignity and also abuse. While mass customization is a viable option in manufacturing with digital factories and employing lean manufacturing designs, service firms have to employ a more productive environment to make mass customization profitable. Mass customization refers to using mass production technologies to quickly and cost effectively assemble goods that are uniquely designed to fit the demands of individual customers (Daft, 2016, p. 271). The key challenge for service mass customization is to translate information about consumer preferences gained through market research into a format that can be easily used for service modularization decisions and customer contact personnel training (Haas Kunz, n.d., p. 603). In the service arena, mass customization becomes an ongoing configuration process with direct involvement of the customer coupled with professional advice by service personnel who understand the configuration rules and know them by heart. Symbolism In Tennessee William s The Glass Menagerie Symbolism is a major aspect in Tennessee William s famous play, The Glass Menagerie. On the surface, the short slice of life story seems to be simple. However, if the reader digs deeper they will find that there are several symbols that give the play a deeper meaning. Each character defines each symbol in a different way. Aside from character symbols, there is overall symbolism in this play. It is set in a memory, so it creates a soft, dream like setting. • 25. The Ministry Of Catholic Educations The Ministry of Catholic Educations says that youth ministry is a response to the mission entrusted by Christ. God told his disciples in Matthew chapter twenty eight verse nineteen Go and make disciples of all nations baptizing them in the name of the father and of the son and of the Holy Spirit. And youthministryis one of the many ways the Catholic Church is doing this. As stated in the Occupational Outlook Handbook, recreational workers create programs that can be altered to specific age groups. Being a youth minister you encounter many different things. Like recreational workers, youth minister put together programs for both middle school and high school. The Arch Dioceses send a lesson plan of what the students should know by the end of the year. The youth ministers will then branch together similar topics and make that the main focus for the night. The themes revolve around the four pillars of the Catholic Church. According to the Catechism of the Catholic Church these four pillars are faith, liturgy and sacraments, morality of our life and prayer. This program is a fun an interesting way to bring these teenagers to Christ. A typical night starts with snacks and games to start building a community and then officially starts with a prayer. One of the reasons we pray is to calculate disengagement which is transitioning the students into a more prayerful mode for the rest of the night. Erica Fryberg Friendships is a poem by Erica Fryberg that can relate to almost anybody who has experienced real and fake friendships, as it is about the speaker s perspective on friendships, and the difference between having real and fake friends, forced friendships and real friendships. Through a comparison of friendships and furniture, the poet uses a humorous tone to describe friendships, making the speaker relatable. I particularly enjoyed this, as on a personal level I was able to relate to this, as a student at a school where teachers attempted to force unnatural relationships multiple times. Overall, this poem was an engaging poem, which, through language and poetic devices, clearly described the difference between real and fake friendships. As the title implies, the subject matter of this poem are friendships, and real and fake friends. The first stanza describes how forced friendships are often fake, and are only an idealized image of real friendships, made only for the purpose of pleasing the teacher. Despite being a memory play , the basis and content of The Glass Menagerie is truth and reality as Williams attempts to find a closer approach, a more penetrating and vivid expression of things as they are . This basis of reality is evident in the play s setting, as The Glass Menagerie is presented with great fidelity to the social and historical realities of the time. This is demonstrated from the play s beginning as Tom reverses time to that quaint period, the thirties , and juxtaposes the turmoil in Spain to the uneasy peace in America, in an allusion to the forthcoming war (World War II). There are other allusions to the war throughout the play, such as in Tom s closing speech as he claims the world is lit by lightning . It is clear that the historical realities of the time are effectively conveyed in the play, although it is not only the war related realities of the time that Williams highlights. • 34. The Doctrine Of Judicial Law Before critically analysing the extent to which the doctrine of judicial precedent affects judicial law making, one must first contemplate what the doctrine of judicial precedent is. The doctrine is a rule that all lower courts are to be bound by the decision or ratio decidendi of the higher courts. As a result of this, cases that are alike are decided in a similar way . However, it is not this simple, as it will be seen throughout this essay that wider circumstances are involved that affect the judicial law making process. Judicial law making (otherwise known as common law) is judge made law rather than law set out in statute. The relationship between the two will be evaluated. Firstly, it is important to outline the types of decisions that are made in courts. Decisions made in the courts are the starting point of the doctrine of judicial precedentbecause it is these decisions that binds the courts in subsequent cases. This can help the courts but can also hinder them when creating common law principles. Two different types of decision making should then be outlined, these being rule based and reason based decisions. When a decision is made it can either be made on the strict rules that apply to the situation or on the balance of all relevant reason. Due to the doctrine, lower courts must take the former approach being bound by the rules established in the decisions of the higher courts. Rule based decisions are supported by Sir William Blackstone who observed the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Oxford English Dictionary defines the genre of melodrama as, a stage play, usually romantic and sensational in plot , this description certainly applies to The Octoroon. It was an extremely popular form of stage drama and what I will discover is whether its themes, content and structure are typical of the Victorian period melodrama. From the first time it was presented at the start of the nineteenth century, melodrama attracted big audiences. Slavery was a hot topic when the Octoroon was produced and some argue that it is abolitionist in its tone. Victorian melodrama s while sensational, tended to be centered around more common everyday settings and themes. Some argue that the play is abolitionist in its tone but I disagree. Boucicault himself denied the piece was meant to be an anti slavery statement(Degen,173). The State of New Jersey Department of Children and Families explains that Abuse is the physical, sexual or emotional harm or risk of harm to another child under the age of 18 caused by a parent or other person who acts as a caregiver for the child (2016). The harsh reality of child abuseand its consequences is recognized throughout this essay. The cost of child abuse can be understood through direct and indirect costs. Direct costs describe those of the child welfare system, judicial and law enforcement, health and mental health systems (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, 2015). Comparatively, indirect costs apply to much more long term problems/a turn of events the child victim and their abuser(s) may have. These costs involve the effects abuse has or may have in regards to education, mental health, substance abuse, teen pregnancy, welfare dependency, domestic violence, homelessness, juvenile delinquency and adult criminality (New Jersey Child Assault Prevention, 2015). It costs a substantial amount of money to deal with child abuse. Moving away from these consequences, it is arguable that children exposed to violence or abuse, if left unaddressed or ignored, are at an increased risk for emotional and behavioral problems in the future. Beethoven s childhood was arguably one of the most fascinating and influential periods of his life. Young Ludwig was raised by an abusive alcoholic father and a neglectful mother. His father, Johan Van Beethoven, was also his musical mentor, and never actualized Beethoven s potential as a musician (1). His mother, Maria Magdalena Kerevich, often sent him to school looking so disheveled that classmates assumed he had no mother (Suchet pg. 21). Despite her neglect, Beethoven spoke very highly of his mother, and said that she taught him to give back to the world despite what it may have neglected to give him (1). This empathetic spirit is visible in his music as well, especially during his compositional period called The End of an Era. This was debatably the darkest time of Beethoven s life, as he was completely deaf, depressed, and in a dry spell of composing (1). His brother had also just been diagnosed with a terminal illness, so he took custody of his nephew Karl, a relationship so tension filled that Karl attempted suicide in 1826 (3).
