(i) Labour intensive industry refers to industry that requires substantial amount of human labour to
produce industrial products. For example, in Australia coal mining is one of the labour intensive
industries. According to Australian Coal Association (Coal amp; the Community), black coal mining
is one of Australia s most important industries that creates employment, low cost fuel and important
source of export revenue.
(ii) Coal mining industry is labour intensive because this particular industry requires a large number
of human labours to run heavy machinery and work in large factories to produce the goods.
(iii) Economies of scale is where the long run average cost declines as production increases in

(i) The productivity of the glass installers will be increase in a change from salary to piece rates,
on the new system they will get paid based on the fixed amount per window completed. So the
more glasses they fixed, the more they will get paid. (ii) Increase in productivity leads to increase
in the total output, in this case number of glasses repaired or fixed. (iii) The average cost will stay
the same which is the old hourly wage system just like in Previous System (iv) The turnover of
productive workers will be high because of the setting of piece rate in the New System (v) If the
workers increase their output more because of the piece rate it will increase the profit for the
principal.

(a) The marginal cost is (100 60)/(40 20) = 2
(b) The average cost at Qy = 20 is 60/20 = 3 The average cost at Qy = 40 is 100/40 = 2.5
(c) Yes. The average cost (AC) decrease from 3 to 2.5 when output increase from 20 to 40.
(d) The marginal cost is (180 75)/(45 15) = 3.5
(e) The average cost at Qx = 15 is 75/15 = 5 The average cost at Qx = 45 is 180/45 = 4
(f) Yes. The average cost (AC) decrease from 5 to 4 when output increase from 15 to 45.
(g) Since TC(15, 20) = 130 lt; TC(15, 0) = 75 + TC(0, 20) = 60 and TC(45, 40) = 260 lt; TC(45, 0)
= 180 + TC(0, 40) = 100. Hence we have economies of scope.
(f) The fixed cost T(0, 0) = 60 20 = 40

Game Over By John Dicosiglio
Video games or online games are played everyday by a vast majority of teens in the United States.
It is estimated that in 2008 approximately 70 90% of teens reportedly play these games. Many
individuals believe that video games offer a learning experience like no other. However, video
games distract from learning and actually negatively affect the minds of teen players, therefore,
playing video or online games is indisputably harmful to adolescents intellectual and social
development. To begin, many teens have begun ditching their textbooks to get to a controller.
Although many adults believe this is just part of growing up, this actually has a negative outcome
on students performance in school. In GameOver by John DiCosiglio, John stresses

Left Ventricular Assist Devices Essay
Introduction
Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) have increased durability and patient survival on the
people who live with heart failure. These devices are mechanical pumps which can work as a
bridge to transplantation or as destination therapy to help the heart to follow its tasks properly.
Asgari and Bonde [1] presented a new totally implantable physiologic left ventricular assist device
system in pulsatile and continuous modes using wireless networks. The authors [1] have proposed
a great contribution to use wireless powering, monitor, communication and control in the field of
implantable control of ventricular assist devices. However, many issues will appear in the result of
the proposed system which needs more investigations in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To investigate the feasibility and implantability of the proposed methodology, the authors tested
physiologic controller in two large female pigs in vivo experiments. The results showed that the
suggested controller (UMC Physio), consumes less power compared with the HeartMate II (axial
pump) controller and HeartWare (centrifugal pump) ventricular assist device controller.
Critique
The system presented wireless network for monitor, communication, control and powering of the
left ventricular assist device systems which is a novel and significant research for LVADs
implantation [1]. However, if there are not internet access and wireless network (via smartphone) at
the same time due to malfunction in antenna or network, limitation in range and other issues, the
proposed system will fail to monitor and control the LVAD in patients, and therefore it will result in
dangerous conditions or death.
Wireless connections have harmful effects on the health of people and especially on blood, the heart,
and the autonomic nervous system when the radiation is continuous and long term [2]. Therefore, it
is recommended to reduce electrosmog exposure and prevent wireless networks for communication,
monitor, control and powering of the LVADs.
Although the main aim of the research published by Asgari and Bonde was to propose a wireless
method for LVAD systems, it is not acceptable that the author did not compare proposed controller
with the other famous methods such as preload based

Queen Of Queen Victoria Research Paper
Most people see Queen Victoria as someone who ruled greatly, others have seen her as a queen
who was wrong for rejecting traditional styles and ways. Victoria had ruled in a society that had
different views and values than her. There s many different takes, thoughts, and outlooks on
Queen Victoria s reign. How do you feel about Queen Victoria? How much do you know about
the Queen? The reign of Queen Victoria, who came to the throne of her ancestors in 1837, was
the longest in English history; indeed, it was one of the longest in the history of Europe, whether
the ancient nations or the modern be considered. English reigns remarkable for length are those of

When Victoria became visibly pregnant and could no longer appear ceremonially during her
first pregnancy in 1840, Albert assumed her duties. As their family grew they would have nine
children by 1856 the monarchy became a shared partnership between them, with Albert
sometimes writing memoranda for the queen to copy in her own hand. Although they were
suspected of Russian sympathies during the Crimean War (1853 1856), the dual monarchy
proved effective and their popularity increased. In December 1861, Albert died at the age of 42.
Queen Victoria went into a period of isolated mourning that would last 10 years. She withdrew
from all of her public duties, leaving a void in the monarchy that she did not allow the Prince of
Wales (her son Albert Edward, called Bertie ) to even attempt to fill until 1898. Scandal followed
Bertie, even after his marriage to Alexandra of Denmark; he kept mistresses throughout his life
and the couple led the lives of socialites. Bertie did, however, pioneer the idea of royal public
appearances during his long tenure the longest in the history of the monarchy as Prince of Wales.
Victoria gradually allowed herself to be drawn back into public life, notably with the second
ministry of Benjamin Disraeli, beginning in 1874. During her reign,

Female Promiscuity And False-Analysis
While growing up with two brothers and one sister, we had wrestling matches between us at all
times. Showing aggressive behavior is typical amongst boys, and it is one of the most consistent
documented psychological differences between the sexes. A meta analysis was constructed
showing a moderate difference in boys having a higher rate of aggression than girls at a d=.55
(Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). We were not punished for wrestling each other, although as soon as my
parents saw my sister was involved, we were immediately scolded. It did not matter that she was
the second toughest out of us four. This installed a certain perspective and idea that we must protect
her and not put her in dangers way.

The women s role varied from working alongside men in the field, in house chores, and finishing
off her day caring for her own family and community back in the slave quarters (Abrams, 2012).
Men back in those times were mainly in the field, but also worked in specialized areas such as
carpenters, blacksmiths, and shoemakers (Abrams, 2012). Later, they returned to their quarters to
provide for their families by hunting and gathering animals and making household items for the
community.
African American views on gender today haven t changed drastically as women are still the main
caretaker of the family (Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). The most surprising fact was that since 1986
women have outnumbered the men in the workforce (Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). Although forty four
percent of families are headed by black women, it notes that fifty six percent of families must be
headed by men or men and women together (Hyde, Else Quist,

The Crisis Caused By The Collapse Of The American...
After the 2008 crisis caused by the collapse of the American investment bank, the Lehman Brothers,
the Europe Union faced difficult decisions to both recover the economy in the short term and in
improving the economy for the long. With their immediate response to the Banks in Europe giving
them €4.5 trillion, the European Unionthen had to respond to the debt crisis that occurred as
they realised a debt fuel economy was not stable. They then came together to form an Economic
union where by a fiscal treaty was created, the idea behind the treaty was to limit yearly deficits
to 0.5% of a country s GDP [1], this is the idea of a Budgetary policy, aiming there deficit,
equilibrium or surplus to reduce debt. The policy was to follow the principles, it should be timely;
this is to allow for quick support of economic activity during low demand, temporary; to avoid a
permanent deterioration in budget positions, the spending when borrowing low should be mix with
both revenue and expenditure ideas; there can be impacts on demand in the short term affecting
consumption allowing for growth, it should be directed within the stability and growth pact; it
provides a common framework and allows for better measures to be take of the cyclical conditions
while strengthening long term fiscal discipline, and should be accompanied with structural reforms
that support demand. {2]

Language And Literature Courses And Ap U.s. History
I ve always struggled to break the boundaries entangled within the composition of traditional essays.
Between AP Language/Literature courses and AP U.S. History, my writing had become noticeably
formulaic; I relied heavily on templates and felt awkward abandoning the traditional five paragraph
essay. Although the formulaic way of writingassisted in my capability to critically recognize the
difference between opinion and evidence, the patterns were not helpful in developing my
organizational skills. My ability to form argumentative ideas from given prompts strengthened,
while unity and coherence within paragraphs proved to be my downfall. It was not until my second
semester of English at the University of Georgia that I noticed my organization was not
comprehensible to the reader. Some paragraphs were like mazes; they left the reader wondering
how the first sentence connected to the following sentence. Along with organization, English 1102
helped identify my lack of transitional phrases within paragraphs and the tendency for my argument
to shift. Nonetheless, this course has highlighted my strengths as a writer, including my ability to
incorporate evidence so that it supports an intelligent, challenging thesis.
The most interesting aspect I discovered about my writing this semester is my ability to read,
appreciate, and interpret a piece of literature and write analytically about it. In this course I ve
grown to change my reading process completely. I had a tendency to read

Cyber And Or Internet Laws
Cyber and/ or Internet Laws Cyber Law is the law that regulates the internet. Meaning, laws or a
specific law connected to the internet and/ or computer crimes. Two emerging trends and legal
issues involving cyber law are E mail contracts, and cybersquatting. There are many more cyber
laws, but we will just discuss these two today. E mail contracts are contracts completed using e
mail. E mail contracts are enforceable as long as they meet the requirements necessary to form a
traditional contract. Cooper Blood, L. (Director) (2015, July 20). Traditional contract meaning it has

E Contract legal case is Hubbert V. Dell Corporation. This case was a Putative class action lawsuit
brought by five lead plaintiffs. The plaintiffs purchased their computers from the Dell website, the
computers which they ordered contained Pentium 4 microprocessors, according to the defendant
that was the fastest, most powerful Intel Pentium processor available; but the plaintiffs asserted the

complaints were Dell violated the Texas Deceptive Trade Practices Consumer Protection Act. The
defendants (Dell) argued that the plaintiffs were bound by an arbitration clause in their Terms and

The Argument Of Arts And Culture
Culture is part of our everyday life; it can be anything from sports, food, clothing or even lifestyle.
On the onset, the support of arts and culture should not be limited to the cultural argument alone, as
one cannot deny that arts and culture is important for the growth of society. Apart from the
financial aspect of a society, arts and culture go a long way towards making the society more
holistic.
With this in mind, the author will firstly examine the two different approaches to arts and culture;
namely cultural arguments as opposed to the creative industries or economic arguments. Secondly,
the author will discuss about why arts and culture should live on and be funded, without putting
creative industries approach towards it.

On the other hand, creative industry takes the view of economic boom of creative work such in any
type of industry. Creative industries were defined as those activities which have their origin in
individual creativity, skill and talent and which have the potential for wealth and job creation
through the generation and exploitation of intellectual property (DCMS, 1998) (Quoted from Ozga,
Seddon, Popkewitz, 2006)
As Paul Keating suggests,
This cultural policy is also an economic policy. Culture creates wealth. Broadly defined, our
cultural industries generate 13 billion dollars a year. Culture [employs and] adds value; it makes an
essential contribution to innovation, marketing and design. It is a badge of our industry. The level
of our creativity substantially determines our ability to adapt to new economic imperatives. It is a
valuable export in itself and an essential accompaniment to the export of other commodities. It
attracts tourists and students. It is essential to our economic success. (Paul Keating,

Essay On The Governess In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry...
Henry James was a prominent figure in Victorian Era literature known for his attention to
conscious perception and ambiguous writing. Because of the mystery shrouding his works, people
have become adept at reading between the lines and filling in his plot holes with their own inferred
ideas. His book The Turn of the Screwis one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has
therefore been a subject of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to
the reliability of the governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? Given James
background living with a philosopher father, a psychologist brother and a sister with numerous
mental health issues, critics often choose the latter theory. The governess... Show more content on

The governess is struggling to ignore her desires and maintain society s standards of a perfect
woman as well as preserve her innocence and reliability as an authority figure. Since she was
taught to look down upon women who deviate from societal expectations, she imagines Jessel in
black, pale, and dreadful with a dishonorable connection to Quint (James 50, 52). The apparition
of Miss Jessel forms from all the unacceptable sexual motives she finds within herself; a way to
reprimand her behavior without villainizing herself . In addition, Jessel s affair with Quint reflects
the governess s unconscious desire for a forbidden relationship with the master of Bly (Rodriguez
2). The ghosts provide her with a method to play out her fantasies while avoiding the consequences
of an illegitimate child and harsh judgment, issues Jessel and Quint had experienced in their lives.
Furthermore, the governess is afraid of scaring or tainting the innocence of the children with her
abnormal behavior which is evident through her fear of the ghosts corrupting them. By projecting
her dangerous, evil qualities on ghosts, she convinces herself that she will be inherently better at
watching the children, gaining their trust and even saving them (Otten 2). The governess s method
of projecting her flaws onto unseen ghosts gives her a sense of security and

Forrest Gump Quotes

Run Forrest, Run! Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get This
quote perfectly describes the theme/thesis of the film and was Forrest s motto. Life will take you
so far from where you are from, so there is no point in worrying about it (Kartha). Forrest Gump is
carried by faith, wit, finesse, ignorance, and love throughout the plot. Forrest Gump may have
not understood his place in those events, but he did have an impact on the society around him.
At the basis of the movie, it is a love story, between Forest and Jenny. While he spends nearly the
whole movie mooning over Jenny, she spends the whole movie trying to escape that love until
the end. To her, love is sick and twisted because all she s ever known is her father s abusive
version of it. But eventually, Forrest s unchanging love (and a tragic encounter with AIDS)
transformed Jenny. There is plenty of examples in the film, of how gump uses his wit or just goes
with the flow and the results of it each time it occurs. Throughout the novel Forrest Gump the main
character, Forrest, is made out to look like a slow, dim witted individual by his peers but perhaps
he may not be as unintelligent as everyone thinks. ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

Analysis Of On Chesil Beach
All three texts present very different views on marriage. On Chesil Beach presents a picture of a
nervous young couple on the first night of their honeymoon, where although both are
inexperienced, they seem to be in love. Whereas, in The Merchants Tale , we have an old hoor
man, desperate for a young wife to present him with an heir. On the other hand, Romeo and Juliet is
a play about the marriageof two lovers; this view is idealised and has for centuries been perceived
as the perfect view of a relationship.
The Merchants Tale s narrator is the Merchant who has been married for a little over two
months. According to Stephanie A. Tolliver, critics have painted him as a disillusioned man full
of hatred and contempt . His marriage is a disaster and therefore we are presented with a bitter
view on the story of Januarie and May. The poem is a tale within a tale and we are given three
perspectives in all. Chaucer, the poet, The Merchant the omniscient narrator and the protagonists
Januarie, May and Damyan. The view of marriage presented in the tale is a very negative one with
the wives being at fault. Many have called the tale to be anti feminist and critics have discussed the
negative presentation of May throughout the centuries. In On Chesil Beach the relationship of a
newlywed couple is represented through the use of the third person. Both Florence and Edward
believed that the promise of marriage would bring them what they most desired, Their marriage,

The Creation Of The New German Nation, Or What Would Become
The creation of the new German nation, or what would become known as the German Unification,
mirrored similar revolutions around the globe, including that of the Meiji Restoration and the Ita
lian Unification. Undoubtably, by the turn of 1871, a new German Empire emerged, but what
remains in uncertain territories, is whether this new German Empirewas created from above or
below. Neither position can be disregarded or invalidated, as the power of the people holds equal
significance to that of the people in power. However, as clearly highlighted by Ernest Renan in a
declaration of nationhood, we [the people] are what you make us; we are what you are ,

The Danes and Alsace Lorrainers were inconvenienced by war, as their respective nations loss to
Germany had left their lands to be transferred from one nation to another and they somewhat
found themselves left to be an alienated minority in a new country that was not their own. While,
the Poles were the butt of historic German feelings of superiority , as they d generally found
themselves within the German Empire and along with the other minorities, they were all, in one
way or another, treated as actual or potential enemies of the Empire . Essentially, this was a
period of internal division in Germany , as the minorities of the Poles, the Danes and Alsace
Lorrainers combined with others that opposed the nature of the new German nation, including
many catholics, set the reality that although the new German nation had been created from above,
it was yet to be brought into existence below. This left the creation of the German nation to

Genes can either be sex linked or autosomal. If a gene appears mostly in one sex chances are the
gene is sex linked and if it appears frequently in both sexes it is most likely autosomal. Using
Drosophila melanogaster, also known as the fruit fly, we will determine whether the gene is sex

A Study Of Culture And Marvin Harris Cultural Materialism
Anthropology as the study of culture is an intricate practice guided by theory to generate
explanatory value from encountered societies. This paper will examine two contrasting angles
provided by Ruth Benedict s configurational anthropology in Patterns of Culture and Marvin Harris
cultural materialism in Cannibals and Kings. Whereas Benedict s configurational anthropology
approaches cultureas an expressive art form, Harris s cultural materialism explains the peculiarities
of cultural customs as a process governed by environmental restraints and innovation. Each theory
will be briefly overviewed and then broken down by fundamental axes to guide the comparison.
Benedict s Patterns of Culture introduced the non anthropologist to cultural relativity and the
socially constructed nature of race in the 1930s post World War era. Beyond political agenda,
Benedict offers a theory of culture that attempts to explain how individual behavior is molded by
the overarching ethos or spirit of a culture. Benedict argues that culture exists as patterns, which are
dominant themes woven throughout cultural institutions that have their own goals and ambitions.
These themes determine culturally appropriate behavior by selecting from a metaphorical arc of
behavioral potentialities that comply with its chosen theme (Benedict 1934:35). In this way,
cultural institutions do not exist simply to meet physiological or psychological needs but rather are
articulations of a culture s goals or

The Eruption Of The Korean War Era
The eruption of the Korean War brought the abrupt requirement for the expansion of aviation.
Helicopters and the Army were very limited in their capabilities, acquisitions of aircraft, laws in

overcome because the need was required during the war. Army Aviation saw expansions of their
force structure and how operations were conducted on the battlefield. The Aviation Center at Fort

Center at Fort Rucker, Alabama was created to train Army aviators in flight training as well as

was set for Army Aviation to grow into the fighting force we know now.
Helicopter Advancement
The Korean Warforced many changes on the way helicopters were used. Most importantly, the
medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) function was a pivotal function Army Aviation could provide
to the ground commanders. The potential of helicopters on the battle field were huge, but there
were some hurdles that needed to be overcome. The Army largely depended on the Marine Corps
experiences in Korea to develop programs of their own (Kreisher, 2011). This inspired the Army
to field the Bell YH 13 as a replacement for the light, fixed wing, observation aircraft. In 1950, less
than two months before the Korean War, the Army approved five transportation rotary wing
companies to begin producing aircraft.
Limitations of Army Helicopters In September, 1950, General J. Lawton Collins asked the Air

helicopters. After a year of debates and meetings, a formal agreement between the Air Force and the
Army removed the weight limitations. The United

The Critique Of The Theory Of Multiple Intelligences
The theory of multiple intelligences was developed by Dr. Howard Gardner in 1983. The Theory
of Multiple Intelligences is a critique of the standard psychological view of intellect: there is a
single intelligence, adequately measured by IQ or other short answer tests. Instead, on the basis of
evidence from disparate sources, the theory claims that human beings have a number of relatively
discrete intellectual capacities. IQ tests assess linguistic and logical mathematical intelligence, and
sometimes spatial intelligence; they are a reasonably good predictor of who will do well in school.
This is because humans have several other significant intellectual capacities (Harvard University).
Explained in Wikipedia, this theory differentiates intelligence into specific... Show more content on

If a teacher is having difficulty reaching a student in the more traditional linguistic or logical ways
of instruction, the theory of multiple intelligences suggests several other ways in which the material
might be presented to facilitate effective learning. He also mentioned how this theory caused a
profound impact on education and proposes a major transformation in the way our schools are run.
It suggests the importance of training teachers to present their lessons in a wide variety of ways
using music, cooperative learning, art activities, role play, multimedia, field trips, inner reflection,

educational system that assumes that everyone can learn the same materials in the same way and
that a uniform, universal measure suffices to test student learning. Indeed, as currently constituted,
our educational system is heavily biased toward linguistic modes of instruction and assessment and,

The Very Different Ruling Styles of Augustus Caesar and...
Two of the more memorable emperors to the Romans were Augustus Caesar (27 BC to 14 AD),
and Caligula (37 AD to 41 AD). Although only having ruled the empire by a separation of 23
years and belonging to the same family (through marriage and adoption), their empires couldn t
have been more different. It is possible to determine the impact of an emperor s rule based on
their many vices and virtues, as well as the choices that they make in relation to them. The
author Suetonius expressed in his writings the many vices and virtues that put into perspective
the kind of leaders that these emperors appeared as to their polis. As we explore the concept of
vices and virtues, as well as what kind of ideals these two rulers represented, we will begin to be
presented with a clearer picture of what an ideal emperor would have looked like. A vice can be
described as an immoral or wicked behavior; while a virtue can be described as a behavior
showing high moral standards. Suetonius and the Roman people had a high interpretation of the
concept of virtue and vice, as well as their role in the ruler s life.
When discussing Augustus and Caligula it is simple to bring up the subject of public works and law.
Augustus had the most success with his many projects, including the Temple of Mars the Avenger,
the Palatine Temple of Apollo, and the Temple of Jupiter the Thunderer on the Capitol. Many
colonnade, basilica, and theater were erected and named after relatives. He urged many renowned

Carpal Tunnel Addiction
The second negative effect that video game addiction can cause are health problems; such as
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Sleep Deprivation. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is the swelling of the
surrounding tendons produced by repetitive movements of the hand for a long time. This is
because if the gamer is using a gaming control he or she will likely have the same movements of
the thumbs. If they don t stop and take a break this will cause damage to the median nerve. The
median nerve will then swell and start to have a burning tingling sensation and it will feel like

situation will get worse, resulting loss of entire hand movement. I didn t know this could happen

Recovering From A Serious Knee Injury
Recovering from a serious knee injury and returning to pre injury levels can be a difficult task to
overcome, but it has been proven possible to do this. Improper injury protocols and the injuries
themselves are two of the largest factors in professional athletes not having elongated and
successful careers. ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL, and Patellar Tendonitis are the most common knee
injuries in which athletes sustain. Sustaining a knee injury at the highest and most competitive
levels of basketball can make the injury and recovery process much more difficult and stressful,
however. Depending on the injury, it can take a very extended amount of time for the knee to return
back to its normal functioning, especially since damaging one part of the knee does not come
without other injuries. A permanent and career ending injury may be the result if the proper
percussions are not taken throughout the recovery process.
Anterior cruciate ligament:
The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the four main ligaments in the knee joint that
connect it to the shin bone (tibia) and thigh bone (femur). It s located deep within the joint,
behind the kneecap (patella), above the shinbone, and below the thighbone. The ACL lies
diagonally across the middle of the knee and plays a role in keeping the knee stable during
movement. Partial tears of the ACL can occur, but are rare. Most ACL tears are either near

Essay On Gender Pay Gap
Women have been fighting for equal rights for 227 years, and at this point now we ve reached a
breaking point, said Patricia Arquette (Cavanaugh, L. V). Over the past century, women in the
United States have made progress in increasing their employment experience and skills. But
despite women s gains in experience, education and skill, a 20 percent gender pay gap still exists.
According to the Institute for Women s Policy Research, women make up half of the workforce

The Simple Truth about the Gender Pay Gap (Spring 2016). (n.d.). Retrieved September 12, 2016.
Companies can do their part in closing the wage gap among men and women by changing their
policies. For the wage gap to close sooner than 136 years from now, everyone needs to work
together. Companies need to conduct salary examinations to monitor and address gender based pay
differences. By changing the company policy women will have access to their male colleagues
salaries and can determine whether the employer is being fair or not.
Companies can also do their part in closing the wage gap by improving their paid sick days
policies. Nearly 40 million workers in the United States do not have access to paid sick days. The
amount of part time workers who do not have paid sick days is even higher at 73 percent. Because
of the lack of paid sick leave, many workers in the United States must go to work sick and if their
children are sick they must either send them to school sick or leave them at home alone because
they fear that by missing work they will be punished or even fired (Glynn, S. J.; Fisher, M.; and

Essay On Low Flight Hours
Unmanned Aircraft Systems have taken the Army by storm. While most units fly on a regular

There are several National Guard Units that continuously fail to meet these requirements. I think
that if every National Guard Unit was able to conduct flight operations where they held weekend
drills. You would see a drastic increase in annual hours flown, as well as overall proficiency and
retention of soldiers in these units. Throughout this paper I will discuss HOR (home of record)

It is my opinion that the above stated problems with the inability to fly, mission readiness, and
proficiency, in turn lead to a negative command relationship. A negative command relationship
could potentially lead to a lack of trust between leadership. As well as a tension, meaning
command may not believe that you are utilizing all of your Soldiers, therefore they need 4
Soldiers for a detail. However, based on the UAS MTOE, providing Soldiers for details is
practically impossible and could negatively affect flight operations. Having a positive command
relationship will exponentially increase a Units overall ability to operate successfully. Based on
the above mentioned difficulties associated with conducting flight operations while not having a
flight line at your duty station. I think it is fair to associate the inability to perform flight ops at a
Drill duty station with these National Guard Units failing to meet their requirements. Thus in turn
creating less proficient soldiers, which can ultimately lead to lack of desire to stay in the National
Guard. Soldiers enlist to perform a job, and without the ability to perform the desired job comes a

Gatsby s reality, after his initial encounter with Daisy, was to work hard and become wealthy so

Giant pandas are among the rarest mammals in the world. There are probably less than 1,000 left in
the wild. Although adult giant pandas have few natural enemies, the young are sometimes preyed
upon by leopards. Habitat encroachment and destruction are the greatest threats to the continued
existence of the giant panda. This is mainly because of the demand for land and natural resources
by China s 1 billion inhabitants. To offset this situation, the Chinese government has set aside 11
nature preserves where bamboo flourishes and giant pandas are known to live.
Giant pandas are being poached, because their dense fur carries a high price in illegal markets in
the Far East. The Chinese government has imposed life sentences for those convicted of poaching
giant pandas. The low reproductive capacity of the giant panda makes it more vulnerable to these
threats, and less capable of rebounding from its low numbers. In 1984, due to its decreasing
numbers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the giant panda as an endangered species under
the Endangered Species Act. This means it is considered in danger of extinction throughout all of
its range.

The National School Lunch Program enforced a rule, which sought to improve school meals
(United 4088). The rule includes many different parts to it, which requires state agencies to

do, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, is to Conduct a nutritional review of

Reflection Paper On Special Education
For my observation, I was at Randolph Elementary in Ms. Heim s fifth grade class. I spent two
and a half hours, twice a week, for three weeks at Randolph. Throughout my time at Randolph, I
was able to observe many different exceptionalities. Because each of the fifth grade teachers
teach a particular subject, the students rotate between classrooms for instruction. This allowed
me to observe students in two of the classes. I was there during their writing/spelling time. I was
able to observe Ms. Heim s class for an hour a half each day I was there and Ms. Thompson s class
for an hour every day I was there. There were seven students I was able to observe, all with
different exceptionalities. During the first couple days of my observation, I was unable to identify
the students in Ms. Heim s class that had any exceptionalities. It wasn t until one day that Ms.
Heim was gone that I noticed a student, Eddie, had a behaviorproblem. Eddie was acting out and
calling the special educationteachers names because he did not want to go to the resource room
for math. After discussing this with Ms. Heim the next day, I found out that Eddie does not like
change. I also learned that Eddie has an IEP for behavior problems and learning disabilities. Ms.
Heim said Eddie s learning disabilities and behavior problems came from a brain injury when he
was younger and because he has had a very rough childhood. I also learned that when the fifth
grade teachers met before the school year started to

Battle Of Vietnam Essay
The Vietnam war began in 1954 through the region which goes back several decades. The vietnam
war was a long, arduous war between North Vietnam and South vietnam, as well as south vietnam s
main ally, the united states. At the time, North vietnam held a communist government. The war
began in 1954 through an ongoing conflict between Russia and America. Going back to WWII,
japanese forces invaded vietnamto fight off japanese occupiers and the french. At the time, the
political leader Ho Chi Minh, who was a communist, formed what is called the Viet Minh, which is
the league for independence for vietnam. Than, after WWII, Japan withdrew its forces from
Vietnam, leaving emperor Bao Dai in total control. Seeing this as an opportunity, he made the Viet
Minh forces rise up, taking control of the northern city of Hanoi and declaring it a democratic
republic with himself as president. Both communist North and neutral South Vietnamsimply wanted
Vietnam to be unified as one again. This was quickly shut down as Ho and his supporters wanted a
communist nation so Bao pleaded for a Vietnam with close economic and cultural ties to the west....

This battle ended with a victory for the northern Viet Minh army. A treaty was later signed in july
1954 at a conference called the Geneva conference which split up Vietnam in an event known as
the 17th parallel. The treaty was an attempt in order to resolve the fighting in vietnam and restore
the peace in the land. At the time, Ho was in control of the north and Bao in control of the South. A
strongly anti communist politician named Ngo Dinh Diem threw Bao aside and became the
president of the republic of vietnam. The treaty later called for new nationwide elections to be held

Zombie Apocalypse Weapons
The three most important items that are needed for a zombie apocalypse are a knife or multi
tool, a fire source, and a map. All of these tools are extremely necessary for going out into the
wide range of Rot and Ruin with thousands of flesh eating zombies. They all can be used in many
different ways that could help anyone survive. To begin with, a knife or multi tool would be a
great survival tool because it can be used for pretty much anything. As an obvious scenario, people
could use the knife or multi tool to killthe zombieswho have one thing on their mind: eat brains. A
knife is a great choice of weapon because it is silent but extremely deadly and can get the job done
quickly and easily. Another reason why a knife belongs in

Analysis Of Cat On A Hot Tin Roof
The Effects of Holding onto Crutches Of course you always had that detached quality as if you
were playing a game without much concern over whether you won or lost, and now that you ve
lost the game, not lost but just quit playing, you have that sort of charm that usually only
happens in very old or hopelessly sick people, the charm of the defeated (30). In this quote,
Maggie, a character in Cat on a Hot Tin Roof, is expressing to her husband Brick how he
surrounds his life with a defeated aura. This defeated aura restricts him from overcoming his
struggles and blinds him from seeing the future. He holds onto to several crutches, in hopes that
his struggles will be pushed aside and he can escape reality. These crutches come in several
forms, but are essentially just excuses. People all over the world, such as the contestants on one
of America s most watched TV shows The Biggest Loser, hold onto crutches and find excuses for
not pursuing a future outcome. On the show, overweight contestants are trained to lose weight
and eat healthy in order to give their body a second chance. All contestants have a story behind
their weight gain, and every time it was because they could not let go of a crutch and chose to eat
their way out of hardships. Maggie s husband Brick does essentially the same, but with different
crutches and different methods of escape. So, through Tennessee Williams s play Cat on a Hot Tin
Roof, it can be proved that holding onto crutches hampers people from

Fractal Time
FRACTAL TIME (ESSAY) Introduction In his book, first published in 2009, Fractal Time: The
Secret of 2012 and a New World Age , Gregg Braden gave wonderful clues into what we would
expect to occur in our world and universe by the year 2012. Though years have passed since the
first publication of the book, the information in the book remains relevant to us today. Gregg
labours to elaborate how it is possible to read the past in order to discover what the future holds
for us in our world and universe, and amazingly, even in our personal lives and relationships. This
paper is written in order to analyse the Fractal Time book to find out what practical lessons we can
pick from it. Personal views on how to apply the concepts presented in... Show more content on

He begins by stating that even if the conditions of the past can keep on repeating, the events do
not have to repeat, except we choose. He makes it clear that we have a choice to make, either to
take a step for better or for worse. He solidifies this point by providing us with important
discoveries, like the Quantum Energy theory, the power of positive emotions and our Heart s
Magnetic field influence on our environment all of which depend on the power of our choice.
Gregg clarifies that a growing number of scientists have arrived at an inescapable conclusion
that there s a place called The Realm of Quantum Energy. These scientists have concluded that it
is at this place where all things begin, and where all things are possible and the kind of thoughts,
feelings, emotions, and beliefs we choose to have at this point is what will influence the results
of our circumstances regardless of the conditions we may be faced with. In this place it is
believed, the atoms of matter are influenced by thought, feeling, emotion, and belief to become
the reality of our world. This quantum energy place is created at the start of every cycle. Lessons
Realized from the Book I have deduced quite a number of lessons from the book, nevertheless I
will choose to talk about what I think are the most important ones to me. Firstly, I have learnt that
it is vital to reflect on our past, because in it we find the evident cycles of the future which

Impact of the Boxer Rebellion on China and the Qing Dynasty
The Boxers throughout the length of the Rebellion aimed to influence and enforce their views upon
the Chinese people and the ruling Qing dynasty. This group, comprised primarily of adolescents
from Northern China, aimed to rid their country from economic manipulation, political invasion, the
influence of foreign ideas and to eradicate Christianity from China. These aims were conveyed
through a series of significant actions performed between 1899 and 1901 which included those
such as: attacks on Chinese Christians both directly and indirectly, the politic massacre of
foreigners and foreign diplomats, the assault on foreign legations and their 55 day long siege of
Beijing.

The Napster Debate
b 1. Background /b
br The Napster software (http://www.napster.com), launched early in 1999, allows internet users to
share and download MP3 files directly from any computer connected to the Napster network. The
software is used by downloading a client program from the Napster site and then connecting to the
network through this software, which allows sharing (uploading and downloading) of MP3 files
between all users connected to the network. While Napster does not condone copyright
infringement, there is no opportunity in the software to stop this, or for royalties to be paid to
artists whose songs are being duplicated for free.
br

Some record labels, most notably Epitaph (http://www.epitaph.com) have partnered with sites like
e music.com to sell full albums and single songs in MP3 format over the web. In this case, the
record company has in fact gained a new distribution method, rather than seeing it as the enemy . Of
course, in this scenario, the record company still gets a cut of the profits, something that artists
whose songs are downloaded through Napster don t get.
br
br The fact that Napster is free and more convenient than visiting a record store makes it an
appealing way to get music for consumers. The problem the record companies have is that there is
no way of regulating who has access to the information, and hence no way of profiting from it.
br
br Napster also facilitates international distribution for unsigned artists. This also threatens record
labels. Previously, without being signed to a record label, an artist simply could not get the
exposure to make a living as a musician. With the Internet, sites like mp3.com and Napster, this is
now possible.
br
br While Napster does allow music sharing to an extent that could theoretically destroy the retail
music industry, stopping Napster will not stop all their problems. Record labels need to see this
new technology not as a threat, but as a challenge. They need to come up

Socialization Of Mass Media
The mass media participates in this hegemonic process in the way it reveals the social status and
economic class. The mainstream news media often commends the prosperity and values of the
dominant class and weakens the dignity of the working people. This happens largely through the
corporate monopolization and can be seen through analyzing the dominant ideologies of
consumerism, competition and democracy within modern society. Preserving control over people s
minds is a fundamental element of the political power required to maintain the capitalist economic
system. Herman and Chomsky provide a propaganda model that can be used as an agenda to
further examine how the media serves the ends of a dominant elite. The consumer culture is one of
the primary forms of domination and can often interfere with our identities in destructive ways.
Companies use the media as a system of communication to increase commodity consumption in
order to generate profit for capitalists. Mainstream news media are profit driven businesses owned
by corporations and are largely funded by advertisers. Advertising was a significant innovative
expansion that influenced the formation of the consumer. The goal of advertisers was to
aggressively shape consumer desires and create value in commodities by imbuing them with the
power to transform the consumer into a more desirable person (C. Colaguori, 2013, p.173). When
linking values to commodities, advertisers are implanting insecurities and fears

How Do Earnings Numbers Relate to Stock Returns? A Review of Classic Accounting Research
with Updated Evidence
D. Craig Nichols and James M. Wahlen
SYNOPSIS: An extensive body of academic research in accounting develops theory and empirical
evidence on the relation between earnings information and stock returns. This literature provides
important insights for understanding the relevance of financial reporting. In this article, we
summarize the theory and evidence on how accounting earnings information relates to firmsВ’
stock returns, particularly for the benefit of students, practitioners, and others who may not yet
have been exposed to this literature. In addition, we ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
We use the updated empirical analysis to assess the extent to which the findings in three seminal
papers still hold, and provide some additional results that do not appear in the original work. This
paper can serve as a resource for those interested in a deeper appreciation for the capital market
consequences associated with accounting earnings. We organize this review using the three
theoretical links between earnings and share prices developed by Beaver (1998). These В“three
linksВ” are: 1) current period earnings provides information to predict future periodsВ’ earnings,
which 2) provide information to develop expectations about dividends in future periods, which 3)
provide information to determine share value, which represents the present value of expected future
dividends. We describe how this theoretical structure provides a practical framework for analyzing
and understanding the valuation implications of earnings information in the capital market. We
then provide empirical evidence on the relation between earnings and stock returns by extending
three classic studies using data from 1988 through 2002. Our first set of empirical results provides
evidence on links 1В–3 by showing a

Essay about A Child Called It, The Lost Boy and A Man...
For this report, I have read all three of Dave Pelzer s books about his life: A Child Called It , The
Lost Boy and A Man Named Dave. A Child Called It chronicles Dave s life as a child, and is told
from that viewpoint. From his earliest recollections of a relatively happy life with the Mommy
to his life and death struggle with The Mother , this book details the horror of Dave s
dehumanizing existence. Going far beyond typical physical, emotional and psychological abuses,
Dave s story tells of intentional starvation, forced coprophagia, poisoning and much more. This
volume covers his life from his earliest memories at age 4 until his rescue at age 12. The Lost Boy
picks up the story where the first book leaves off, following... Show more content on

Dave took food from other children s lunches at school in order to survive. His schoolmates were
aware of this, and it served to set him further apart from them. The children called him names
and he had no friends. Two of the disabilities that were apparent to me while reading these books
were the alcoholism of Dave s parents and Dave s developmental issues. Application of
Developmental Theories Families are systems in which each individual has a unique relationship
with the other individuals in the family. Dave s place in his family was, indeed, unique. The
subsystem consisting of Dave and his mother had a foundation in the boundaries set by the
mother. Dave s role in the family was, essentially, that he was not a part of the family. Not only
that, Dave s identity was stripped away by his mother. At the onset of the abuse, she began
referring to him as the boy. As the situation worsened, she referred to him as It , hence the title of
the first book in this series. At the time of Dave s rescue, he exhibited two of the four behavioral
indicators of abuse that were established in 1979 by the U.S. Department of Health, Education and
Welfare. He exhibited overly compliant, passive and undemanding behaviors aimed at maintaining
a low profile, avoiding any possible confrontation with a parent which could

  • 2. Economic Strategy for Business 4. a. (i) Labour intensive industry refers to industry that requires substantial amount of human labour to produce industrial products. For example, in Australia coal mining is one of the labour intensive industries. According to Australian Coal Association (Coal amp; the Community), black coal mining is one of Australia s most important industries that creates employment, low cost fuel and important source of export revenue. (ii) Coal mining industry is labour intensive because this particular industry requires a large number of human labours to run heavy machinery and work in large factories to produce the goods. (iii) Economies of scale is where the long run average cost declines as production increases in simple explanation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... (i) The productivity of the glass installers will be increase in a change from salary to piece rates, on the new system they will get paid based on the fixed amount per window completed. So the more glasses they fixed, the more they will get paid. (ii) Increase in productivity leads to increase in the total output, in this case number of glasses repaired or fixed. (iii) The average cost will stay the same which is the old hourly wage system just like in Previous System (iv) The turnover of productive workers will be high because of the setting of piece rate in the New System (v) If the workers increase their output more because of the piece rate it will increase the profit for the principal. 3. (a) The marginal cost is (100 60)/(40 20) = 2 (b) The average cost at Qy = 20 is 60/20 = 3 The average cost at Qy = 40 is 100/40 = 2.5 (c) Yes. The average cost (AC) decrease from 3 to 2.5 when output increase from 20 to 40. (d) The marginal cost is (180 75)/(45 15) = 3.5 (e) The average cost at Qx = 15 is 75/15 = 5 The average cost at Qx = 45 is 180/45 = 4 (f) Yes. The average cost (AC) decrease from 5 to 4 when output increase from 15 to 45. (g) Since TC(15, 20) = 130 lt; TC(15, 0) = 75 + TC(0, 20) = 60 and TC(45, 40) = 260 lt; TC(45, 0) = 180 + TC(0, 40) = 100. Hence we have economies of scope. (f) The fixed cost T(0, 0) = 60 20 = 40 1. It is estimated that in 2008 approximately 70 90% of teens reportedly play these games. Many individuals believe that video games offer a learning experience like no other. However, video games distract from learning and actually negatively affect the minds of teen players, therefore, playing video or online games is indisputably harmful to adolescents intellectual and social development. To begin, many teens have begun ditching their textbooks to get to a controller. Although many adults believe this is just part of growing up, this actually has a negative outcome on students performance in school. In GameOver by John DiCosiglio, John stresses ... • 5. Left Ventricular Assist Devices Essay Introduction Left Ventricular Assist Devices (LVADs) have increased durability and patient survival on the people who live with heart failure. These devices are mechanical pumps which can work as a bridge to transplantation or as destination therapy to help the heart to follow its tasks properly. Asgari and Bonde [1] presented a new totally implantable physiologic left ventricular assist device system in pulsatile and continuous modes using wireless networks. The authors [1] have proposed a great contribution to use wireless powering, monitor, communication and control in the field of implantable control of ventricular assist devices. However, many issues will appear in the result of the proposed system which needs more investigations in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... To investigate the feasibility and implantability of the proposed methodology, the authors tested physiologic controller in two large female pigs in vivo experiments. The results showed that the suggested controller (UMC Physio), consumes less power compared with the HeartMate II (axial pump) controller and HeartWare (centrifugal pump) ventricular assist device controller. Critique The system presented wireless network for monitor, communication, control and powering of the left ventricular assist device systems which is a novel and significant research for LVADs implantation [1]. However, if there are not internet access and wireless network (via smartphone) at the same time due to malfunction in antenna or network, limitation in range and other issues, the proposed system will fail to monitor and control the LVAD in patients, and therefore it will result in dangerous conditions or death. Wireless connections have harmful effects on the health of people and especially on blood, the heart, and the autonomic nervous system when the radiation is continuous and long term [2]. Therefore, it is recommended to reduce electrosmog exposure and prevent wireless networks for communication, monitor, control and powering of the LVADs. Although the main aim of the research published by Asgari and Bonde was to propose a wireless method for LVAD systems, it is not acceptable that the author did not compare proposed controller with the other famous methods such as preload based ... • 6. Queen Of Queen Victoria Research Paper Most people see Queen Victoria as someone who ruled greatly, others have seen her as a queen who was wrong for rejecting traditional styles and ways. Victoria had ruled in a society that had different views and values than her. There s many different takes, thoughts, and outlooks on Queen Victoria s reign. How do you feel about Queen Victoria? How much do you know about the Queen? The reign of Queen Victoria, who came to the throne of her ancestors in 1837, was the longest in English history; indeed, it was one of the longest in the history of Europe, whether the ancient nations or the modern be considered. English reigns remarkable for length are those of Henry VI 39 years, Henry VIII 38, Elizabeth 45, Edward III 50, Henry III 56, and... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When Victoria became visibly pregnant and could no longer appear ceremonially during her first pregnancy in 1840, Albert assumed her duties. As their family grew they would have nine children by 1856 the monarchy became a shared partnership between them, with Albert sometimes writing memoranda for the queen to copy in her own hand. Although they were suspected of Russian sympathies during the Crimean War (1853 1856), the dual monarchy proved effective and their popularity increased. In December 1861, Albert died at the age of 42. Queen Victoria went into a period of isolated mourning that would last 10 years. She withdrew from all of her public duties, leaving a void in the monarchy that she did not allow the Prince of Wales (her son Albert Edward, called Bertie ) to even attempt to fill until 1898. Scandal followed Bertie, even after his marriage to Alexandra of Denmark; he kept mistresses throughout his life and the couple led the lives of socialites. Bertie did, however, pioneer the idea of royal public appearances during his long tenure the longest in the history of the monarchy as Prince of Wales. Victoria gradually allowed herself to be drawn back into public life, notably with the second ministry of Benjamin Disraeli, beginning in 1874. During her reign, ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 7. Female Promiscuity And False-Analysis While growing up with two brothers and one sister, we had wrestling matches between us at all times. Showing aggressive behavior is typical amongst boys, and it is one of the most consistent documented psychological differences between the sexes. A meta analysis was constructed showing a moderate difference in boys having a higher rate of aggression than girls at a d=.55 (Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). We were not punished for wrestling each other, although as soon as my parents saw my sister was involved, we were immediately scolded. It did not matter that she was the second toughest out of us four. This installed a certain perspective and idea that we must protect her and not put her in dangers way. The women s role varied from working alongside men in the field, in house chores, and finishing off her day caring for her own family and community back in the slave quarters (Abrams, 2012). Later, they returned to their quarters to provide for their families by hunting and gathering animals and making household items for the community. African American views on gender today haven t changed drastically as women are still the main caretaker of the family (Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). The most surprising fact was that since 1986 women have outnumbered the men in the workforce (Hyde, Else Quist, 2013). • 8. The Crisis Caused By The Collapse Of The American... After the 2008 crisis caused by the collapse of the American investment bank, the Lehman Brothers, the Europe Union faced difficult decisions to both recover the economy in the short term and in improving the economy for the long. With their immediate response to the Banks in Europe giving them €4.5 trillion, the European Unionthen had to respond to the debt crisis that occurred as they realised a debt fuel economy was not stable. They then came together to form an Economic union where by a fiscal treaty was created, the idea behind the treaty was to limit yearly deficits to 0.5% of a country s GDP [1], this is the idea of a Budgetary policy, aiming there deficit, equilibrium or surplus to reduce debt. • 9. Language And Literature Courses And Ap U.s. History I ve always struggled to break the boundaries entangled within the composition of traditional essays. Between AP Language/Literature courses and AP U.S. History, my writing had become noticeably formulaic; I relied heavily on templates and felt awkward abandoning the traditional five paragraph essay. Although the formulaic way of writingassisted in my capability to critically recognize the difference between opinion and evidence, the patterns were not helpful in developing my organizational skills. My ability to form argumentative ideas from given prompts strengthened, while unity and coherence within paragraphs proved to be my downfall. It was not until my second semester of English at the University of Georgia that I noticed my organization was not comprehensible to the reader. Some paragraphs were like mazes; they left the reader wondering how the first sentence connected to the following sentence. Along with organization, English 1102 helped identify my lack of transitional phrases within paragraphs and the tendency for my argument to shift. Nonetheless, this course has highlighted my strengths as a writer, including my ability to incorporate evidence so that it supports an intelligent, challenging thesis. The most interesting aspect I discovered about my writing this semester is my ability to read, appreciate, and interpret a piece of literature and write analytically about it. In this course I ve grown to change my reading process completely. I had a tendency to read ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

On the onset, the support of arts and culture should not be limited to the cultural argument alone, as one cannot deny that arts and culture is important for the growth of society. Apart from the financial aspect of a society, arts and culture go a long way towards making the society more holistic. With this in mind, the author will firstly examine the two different approaches to arts and culture; namely cultural arguments as opposed to the creative industries or economic arguments. • 12. Essay On The Governess In The Turn Of The Screw By Henry... Henry James was a prominent figure in Victorian Era literature known for his attention to conscious perception and ambiguous writing. Because of the mystery shrouding his works, people have become adept at reading between the lines and filling in his plot holes with their own inferred ideas. His book The Turn of the Screwis one of his most vague and intriguing pieces and has therefore been a subject of much conflict among critics. Of all possible theories, most boil down to the reliability of the governess; is she telling the truth, or has she gone insane? Given James background living with a philosopher father, a psychologist brother and a sister with numerous mental health issues, critics often choose the latter theory. The governess... The governess is struggling to ignore her desires and maintain society s standards of a perfect woman as well as preserve her innocence and reliability as an authority figure. Since she was taught to look down upon women who deviate from societal expectations, she imagines Jessel in black, pale, and dreadful with a dishonorable connection to Quint (James 50, 52). The apparition of Miss Jessel forms from all the unacceptable sexual motives she finds within herself; a way to reprimand her behavior without villainizing herself . In addition, Jessel s affair with Quint reflects the governess s unconscious desire for a forbidden relationship with the master of Bly (Rodriguez 2). The ghosts provide her with a method to play out her fantasies while avoiding the consequences of an illegitimate child and harsh judgment, issues Jessel and Quint had experienced in their lives. Furthermore, the governess is afraid of scaring or tainting the innocence of the children with her abnormal behavior which is evident through her fear of the ghosts corrupting them. By projecting her dangerous, evil qualities on ghosts, she convinces herself that she will be inherently better at watching the children, gaining their trust and even saving them (Otten 2). • 13. Forrest Gump Quotes Eliyah Bazile Kourtney Hake English 101 4/24/2018 Run Forrest, Run! Life is like a box of chocolates, you never know what you re going to get This quote perfectly describes the theme/thesis of the film and was Forrest s motto. Life will take you so far from where you are from, so there is no point in worrying about it (Kartha). Forrest Gump is carried by faith, wit, finesse, ignorance, and love throughout the plot. Forrest Gump may have not understood his place in those events, but he did have an impact on the society around him. At the basis of the movie, it is a love story, between Forest and Jenny. While he spends nearly the whole movie mooning over Jenny, she spends the whole movie trying to escape that love until the end. To her, love is sick and twisted because all she s ever known is her father s abusive version of it. But eventually, Forrest s unchanging love (and a tragic encounter with AIDS) transformed Jenny. There is plenty of examples in the film, of how gump uses his wit or just goes with the flow and the results of it each time it occurs. Throughout the novel Forrest Gump the main character, Forrest, is made out to look like a slow, dim witted individual by his peers but perhaps he may not be as unintelligent as everyone thinks. ... • 14. Analysis Of On Chesil Beach All three texts present very different views on marriage. On Chesil Beach presents a picture of a nervous young couple on the first night of their honeymoon, where although both are inexperienced, they seem to be in love. Whereas, in The Merchants Tale , we have an old hoor man, desperate for a young wife to present him with an heir. On the other hand, Romeo and Juliet is a play about the marriageof two lovers; this view is idealised and has for centuries been perceived as the perfect view of a relationship. The Merchants Tale s narrator is the Merchant who has been married for a little over two months. According to Stephanie A. Tolliver, critics have painted him as a disillusioned man full of hatred and contempt . His marriage is a disaster and therefore we are presented with a bitter view on the story of Januarie and May. The poem is a tale within a tale and we are given three perspectives in all. Chaucer, the poet, The Merchant the omniscient narrator and the protagonists Januarie, May and Damyan. The view of marriage presented in the tale is a very negative one with the wives being at fault. Many have called the tale to be anti feminist and critics have discussed the negative presentation of May throughout the centuries. In On Chesil Beach the relationship of a newlywed couple is represented through the use of the third person. The Creation Of The New German Nation, Or What Would Become The creation of the new German nation, or what would become known as the German Unification, mirrored similar revolutions around the globe, including that of the Meiji Restoration and the Ita lian Unification. Undoubtably, by the turn of 1871, a new German Empire emerged, but what remains in uncertain territories, is whether this new German Empirewas created from above or below. Neither position can be disregarded or invalidated, as the power of the people holds equal significance to that of the people in power. If a gene appears mostly in one sex chances are the gene is sex linked and if it appears frequently in both sexes it is most likely autosomal. Using Drosophila melanogaster, also known as the fruit fly, we will determine whether the gene is sex linked or autosomal. A Study Of Culture And Marvin Harris Cultural Materialism Anthropology as the study of culture is an intricate practice guided by theory to generate explanatory value from encountered societies. This paper will examine two contrasting angles provided by Ruth Benedict s configurational anthropology in Patterns of Culture and Marvin Harris cultural materialism in Cannibals and Kings. Whereas Benedict s configurational anthropology approaches cultureas an expressive art form, Harris s cultural materialism explains the peculiarities of cultural customs as a process governed by environmental restraints and innovation. Each theory will be briefly overviewed and then broken down by fundamental axes to guide the comparison. Benedict s Patterns of Culture introduced the non anthropologist to cultural relativity and the socially constructed nature of race in the 1930s post World War era. Beyond political agenda, Benedict offers a theory of culture that attempts to explain how individual behavior is molded by the overarching ethos or spirit of a culture. Benedict argues that culture exists as patterns, which are dominant themes woven throughout cultural institutions that have their own goals and ambitions. These themes determine culturally appropriate behavior by selecting from a metaphorical arc of behavioral potentialities that comply with its chosen theme (Benedict 1934:35). In this way, cultural institutions do not exist simply to meet physiological or psychological needs but rather are articulations of a culture s goals or ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Most importantly, the medical evacuation (MEDEVAC) function was a pivotal function Army Aviation could provide to the ground commanders. The potential of helicopters on the battle field were huge, but there were some hurdles that needed to be overcome. The Army largely depended on the Marine Corps experiences in Korea to develop programs of their own (Kreisher, 2011). The Theory of Multiple Intelligences is a critique of the standard psychological view of intellect: there is a single intelligence, adequately measured by IQ or other short answer tests. Instead, on the basis of evidence from disparate sources, the theory claims that human beings have a number of relatively discrete intellectual capacities. IQ tests assess linguistic and logical mathematical intelligence, and sometimes spatial intelligence; they are a reasonably good predictor of who will do well in school. This is because humans have several other significant intellectual capacities (Harvard University). Explained in Wikipedia, this theory differentiates intelligence into specific... It suggests the importance of training teachers to present their lessons in a wide variety of ways using music, cooperative learning, art activities, role play, multimedia, field trips, inner reflection, and much more. As mentioned in Lane, Gardner said that these differences challenge an educational system that assumes that everyone can learn the same materials in the same way and that a uniform, universal measure suffices to test student learning. Although only having ruled the empire by a separation of 23 years and belonging to the same family (through marriage and adoption), their empires couldn t have been more different. It is possible to determine the impact of an emperor s rule based on their many vices and virtues, as well as the choices that they make in relation to them. The author Suetonius expressed in his writings the many vices and virtues that put into perspective the kind of leaders that these emperors appeared as to their polis. As we explore the concept of vices and virtues, as well as what kind of ideals these two rulers represented, we will begin to be presented with a clearer picture of what an ideal emperor would have looked like. A vice can be described as an immoral or wicked behavior; while a virtue can be described as a behavior showing high moral standards. Suetonius and the Roman people had a high interpretation of the concept of virtue and vice, as well as their role in the ruler s life. When discussing Augustus and Caligula it is simple to bring up the subject of public works and law. Improper injury protocols and the injuries themselves are two of the largest factors in professional athletes not having elongated and successful careers. ACL, MCL, PCL, LCL, and Patellar Tendonitis are the most common knee injuries in which athletes sustain. Sustaining a knee injury at the highest and most competitive levels of basketball can make the injury and recovery process much more difficult and stressful, however. Depending on the injury, it can take a very extended amount of time for the knee to return back to its normal functioning, especially since damaging one part of the knee does not come without other injuries. A permanent and career ending injury may be the result if the proper percussions are not taken throughout the recovery process. Anterior cruciate ligament: The anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) is one of the four main ligaments in the knee joint that connect it to the shin bone (tibia) and thigh bone (femur). To offset this situation, the Chinese government has set aside 11 nature preserves where bamboo flourishes and giant pandas are known to live. Giant pandas are being poached, because their dense fur carries a high price in illegal markets in the Far East. The Chinese government has imposed life sentences for those convicted of poaching giant pandas. The low reproductive capacity of the giant panda makes it more vulnerable to these threats, and less capable of rebounding from its low numbers. In 1984, due to its decreasing numbers, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the giant panda as an endangered species under the Endangered Species Act. This means it is considered in danger of extinction throughout all of its range. This protection also prohibits giant pandas from being imported into the U.S. except under certain conditions. Hundreds of thousands of students around the United States of America rush from their classes to the school cafeteria. The food that these students get to choose from has changed over the past years because of the new National School Lunch Program regulations, which limit the different foods that can be offered in schools. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The National School Lunch Program enforced a rule, which sought to improve school meals (United 4088). The rule includes many different parts to it, which requires state agencies to acquire and check many different pieces of data. The first thing the state agencies are required to do, according to the United States Department of Agriculture, is to Conduct a nutritional review of school lunches and breakfasts as part of the administrative review process (4088). By having these checks, the USDA can ensure that schools are following the dietary restrictions as well as meeting the FDA nutritional standards. The second step for state agencies is to Determine compliance with the meal patterns and dietary specifications based on a review of menu and production records for a two week period (4088 4089). This guarantees that schools will follow the FDA regulations because the state agencies force schools to follow and be compliant. To conclude the first rule, the third and final action that state agencies must take is to Review school lunches and breakfasts every three years, consistent with the HHFKA (Healthy Hungry Free Kids Act) (4089). This assures that schools are adhering to the FDA guidelines over the long run. The agencies check the school menu over the past three years, to make ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

He makes it clear that we have a choice to make, either to take a step for better or for worse. He solidifies this point by providing us with important discoveries, like the Quantum Energy theory, the power of positive emotions and our Heart s Magnetic field influence on our environment all of which depend on the power of our choice. Gregg clarifies that a growing number of scientists have arrived at an inescapable conclusion that there s a place called The Realm of Quantum Energy. These scientists have concluded that it is at this place where all things begin, and where all things are possible and the kind of thoughts, feelings, emotions, and beliefs we choose to have at this point is what will influence the results of our circumstances regardless of the conditions we may be faced with. • 52. Socialization Of Mass Media The mass media participates in this hegemonic process in the way it reveals the social status and economic class. The mainstream news media often commends the prosperity and values of the dominant class and weakens the dignity of the working people. This happens largely through the corporate monopolization and can be seen through analyzing the dominant ideologies of consumerism, competition and democracy within modern society. Preserving control over people s minds is a fundamental element of the political power required to maintain the capitalist economic system. Herman and Chomsky provide a propaganda model that can be used as an agenda to further examine how the media serves the ends of a dominant elite. The consumer culture is one of the primary forms of domination and can often interfere with our identities in destructive ways. Companies use the media as a system of communication to increase commodity consumption in order to generate profit for capitalists. Mainstream news media are profit driven businesses owned by corporations and are largely funded by advertisers. Going far beyond typical physical, emotional and psychological abuses, Dave s story tells of intentional starvation, forced coprophagia, poisoning and much more.
