Day after day, late students are punished or end up in detention due to short passing periods.
Having short passing periods can make a student s grade go down or worse when students are late
to class. This can be prevented by extending passing periods to 10 minutes. Although the staff at
H.P.M.S may disapprove, but in the long run, they will see the effects of having longer passing
periods has on students. Because of the short timeof passing periods, students at Happy Place
Middle School are petitioning to extend their passing periodtime to 10 minutes. In short, some of
the positive effects are that students can get to class on time, and gives students and teachers time
to prepare.
In addition to that, when the passing period time is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
And also, the traffic in the halls often crawls at the SPEED OF MOLASSES. Simply to say, it
can make you very late for class. Students also go to their class missing their books because they
don t have time to go to the locker to get their materials. This makes it worse for students because
they are unable to do work (Abdelmalek).
Furthermore into the topic, the 10 minute passing period lets and/or helps teachers prepare for their
next period. A longer passing period would prevent students from asking to go use the bathroom,
get a drink, or be late, so teacher(s) have the student s full concentration, If your student doesn t
have to interrupt you to use the restroom or get some water, it is going to be a better learning
environment for the rest of the students. Without these interruptions you may continue your lesson
and have student s full concentration, instead of worrying about their personal needs (Medina).
And also in addition to that, teachers will have more time to prepare for their next class
compared to 5 minutes, so teachers can get coffee or take a break during the passing period.
Therefore, passing periods should be extended to 10 minutes since there are upsides and very few
downsides, the upsides: Have more time to get to their classes, students can be spared from the
worst

Debbi Fields founded Mrs. Fields Bakeries. In addition to her hugely successful company, Fields

franchising have been established with her standards in mind.
Debbi Fields is a huge inspiration in her dedication and drive in what she loved to do. She was
not content with her place in her life and worked hard to change that. Even after she became
largely successful, Mrs. Fields still made sure to keep her business personal and maintaining high

Catchers Helmet Case Study
Catchers equipment for youth players has two important objectives. First, it needs to offer safe
protection for the catcher. Second, it must fit securely so that the player can do their job. Here are
some examples of excellent options for catchers equipment for youth ages
The Catchers Helmet
Standard catcher masks and skullcaps are no longer permitted in youth leagues. Younger catchers
must wear the full hockey style helmet. When rating helmets you need to consider protection first
and foremost, then visibility and comfort. The Easton M5 QwikFitв„ў blends quality with
affordability.
The QwikFitв„ў design was developed because young catchers always seemed to have trouble
adjusting their catcher helmet. Now the catcher can use the simple click and pull mechanism to ...

The Easton youth design corrected that problem. It adds dual density padding inside a hard shell
helmet for the ultimate helmet. The M5 is finished with a hard steel facemask with an open face
design so the catcher can see.
The Catcher s Chest Protector
Using the same idea behind the helmet, Easton also saw young catchers having problems safely
clipping on their chest protector. Employing a similar quick connect idea, the Easton M5в„ў chest
protector adds a simple quick clip and an adjustable strap.
Easton added a plate inside the dual foam padding to add additional protection around the
collarbone and in the throat area. Since the chest protector part of catchers equipment for youth
players needs to fit securely, the over the shoulder quick adjustment is one of the most popular
features for the smallest catchers.
Catchers Shin Guards
The lower leg on a catcher can take a beating. It is important that the shin guards remain securely
in place, and have a hard shell backed by padding to deflect the impact. To accomplish this, the
guard needs to have a good strap set up, in addition to full leg

How Does Louis Sachar s Holes Show Courage
Have you ever been blamed for something you didn t do? That s exactly the situation Stanley
Yelnats found himself in, in Louis Sachar s Holes. In Holes, Stanley is sent to Camp Green Lake,
a correctional facility for troubled youth. Camp Green Lake is in the middle of nowhere, dry, and
desolated. Throughout the book, Stanley is faced with many challenges, that he must overcome to
survive, and escape Camp Green Lake. Holeshas a strong theme of courage, it shows Stanley
surviving, escaping, and overcoming the camp s conditions, and his family s curse.
The condition sat Camp Green Lake are harsh, and unsanitary. The land was barren and desolate.
(Sachar,11) For his time, Stanly has to survive the challenges of the camp. At Camp Green Lake,
there are no fences or other precautions made to keep campers at camp, because at the camp
there is the only water to found for miles. When Stanly leaves camp, he has to walk in the hot
sun, for hours, while looking for God s Thumb and Zero. When he finds Zero he must then support
Zero and make a long climb out of the lake. Then, afterwards, he must then make the long walk
back to camp. He does all this, showing great perseverance. ... Show more content on

starts to overcome everything that has troubled him. He quite literally overcomes his bad luck.

Pros And Cons Of Hostile Buying Home
As the local housing market in cities across the country become increasingly competitive,
upcoming metropolitan areas such as Seattle, Portland, and Dallas have had their fair share of
continuous bidding wars. Often times in this bidding wars to obtain home from another buyer,
most homes end up selling above the list price, with an average of 75 percent of home sellers
receiving several offers this year. According to one homeowner named Lauren Haule, her and her
family spent about a year attempting to find a home in what turn out to be a incredibly
competitive, even some would say hostile bidding environment. Having participated in close to a
dozen bidding wars, she also expressed her frustration directly related to how the asking price

Executive Salaries And What It Means To The United States...
Executive Salaries and What it Means to our Economy
The economy of the United States is by far the largest and most powerful economy in the entire
world. The average family income is roughly $40,000 a year and our GDP (Gross Domestic
Product) is well over 10 trillion dollars. The next closest country is Japan with 4 trillion dollars of
total GDP.(Johnson Wales: Economics) The United States has so many large corporations it takes
someone to run each one and it also take a lot of money to pay someone to be in charge of each
one. Top companies in the United States range from automobile manufacturers to household

Directors have awarded compensation packages that go well beyond what is required to attract
and hold on to executives and have rewarded even poorly performing executives. These executive
pay excesses come at the expense of shareholders as well as the company and its employees.
Furthermore, a poorly designed executive compensation package can reward decisions that are not
in the long term interests of a company. Excessive CEO pay is essentially a corporate
governance problem. When CEOs have too much power in the boardroom, they are able to
extract what economists call economic rents from shareholders (Economic rent is distinct from
economic profit, which is the difference between a firm s revenues and the opportunity cost of its
inputs). The board of directors is supposed to protect shareholder interests and minimize these
costs. At approximately two thirds of US companies, the CEO sits as the board s chair. When one
single person serves as both chair and CEO, it is impossible to objectively monitor and evaluate
his or her own performance. What can be done about this? The best thing that can happen to let
shareholders know about CEO executive pay excesses is to let it come to light. Companies are
required to file documents describing their executives compensation with the U.S. Securities and
Exchange Commission (SEC); these often are

Moliere s Tartuffe By William Moliere
The Enlightenment ushered in the idea that reason should be exercised in thinking instead of
passion. Moliere s Tartuffe was written to challenge the dominant political and religious views of its
time. The Catholic church viewed Moliere s Tartuffe as a threat to their faith and banned the play
from being performed in public. Moliere became one of the great Enlightenment thinkers because of
his willingness to speak out against the large corrupt institutions that many people did not have the
courage to question.
Marcel Gutwirth states, Who is Tartuffe? Who is the wretch come barefoot into the home of a man
of some wealth and note who, in the teeth of almost universal detestation, establishes a grip upon
that household so tenacious that the intervention of the sovereign is needed to shake him loose
and send him packing? The play, as had been remarked, refuses to make up its mind. The
rubicund glutton of the second act or the sinister jail bird of the fifth, the religious hypocrite or the
professional confidence man, the professed nobleman the provinces or the penniless impostor
make for a range that takes in some mutually exclusive possibilities. Two things stand out: he does
lay claim to a very special relation to heaven; and, though far less overtly, sex exercises an equally
strong claim on his person. A third fact, which we shall take up first, is his successful occupation of
that well nigh impregnable fastness, the interior of an affluent French household the

Diane Arbus Research Paper
American actress Emma Stone once stated, What sets you apart can sometimes feel like a burden
and it s not. And a lot of the time, it s what makes you great. Everyone must accept that they are
different in order to release a burden and reach their full potential. One can achieve great things
following this rule. Diane Arbus was an American photographer, she lived 1923 1971( Diane
Arbus , 2010). Diane Arbus created acceptance for the freaks in the worldby focusing on them in her
photos, she innovated the field of photographyby doing so, and illuminated the world and
civilization s views.
She created art, starring non traditional people. Diane grew up pampered and with a strong sense
of what was and wasn t acceptable. ( Diane Nemerov Arbus. , 1998). The sense of being immune
to the hardships of life seemed hard for her. She had always fantasised but never shared it with
anyone. She did not show her diverse ideas until she was an adult, following her dream as a
photographer. She took photos of people often seen as ugly in society. Such as dwarfs, giants, gays,

Color Yellow Autobiography
One special memory that shaped my life was loving the color yellow. This may seem peculiar
for a little girl to prefer yellow instead of pink though my story will soon become clear. Topaz is
the stone that coincides with my birth month, I learned of this when I was about four years old.
Children occasionally cling to items or ideas, claiming them as their own, I chose yellow.
The movie Mary Poppins, a popular movie in the 60 s and 70 s, helped to reinforce the popularity
of the color yellow when my brother and I were sick. Cough medicine tasted terrible in the early
70 s, worse than in the present, therefore my mother concocted a solution to encourage us to take
the medicine. While singing the song With a Spoonful of Sugar we were to wish ... Show more

The long awaited fifth birthday had finally arrived, the cake was yellow, the new bicycle was
white with yellow details including a banana shaped seat, tassels, and a horn. Saved for last was a
beautiful, yellow, half Lab/Shepard puppy, she was perfect. I named her Sunshine and of course
our favorite family song became You are my Sunshine .
Sunshine became a inside dog after being hit by a vehicle during her first year with our family.
Luckily we were not witnesses to the event, although I have memories of her with a leg brace
and needing to apply medicine daily to her wounds. Sunshine healed quickly, however for the rest
of her life she walked with a sideways gait similar to John Wayne. She learned from her experience
and almost never chased another car. Being an inside dog was fortunate, for when she was three we
moved to a street that was frequent with traffic.
Sunshine followed us everywhere in our new neighborhood, she protected us on numerous
occasions from strangers and bullies. Everyone in our circle of friends and family was grateful for
her during the summer my little brother becoming a snake hunter. Sunshine stayed closer to him

Chesnutt s Stories Charles Waddell Chesnutt is an African American writer who writes many
novels and short stories about African American superstitions and folklore of the south in The
Conjure Woman. The Conjure Woman is a collection of folk tales that explore complex issues of
racial and social identity in the post Civil War. Chesnutt writes these stories in vernacular forms to
represent the oral act of storytelling and express Chesnutt s black identity and cultural heritage of
African Americanpeople. Chesnutt s folktales are narrated either to teach the readers lessons or to

Some products would not be sold in Jessops but would be sold online resulting in losses of
potential revenue for Jessops. Another market which has slowly died is the demand for printing
of photos, due to social media websites such as Twitter and Facebook people don t need to share
their photos in a physical format and are capable of simply sending the picture via these social
websites. In this case of selling products it was a massive drawback for Jessops but turned out to
be an advantage for competitors such as Amazon. The increased number of internet users leads to
benefits for Amazon who thrive off increased internet usage due to consumers finding it a cheaper
alternative to Jessops.
The internet can also be a good source of primary market research which enables firms such as
Amazon to analyze prices of different websites. This would give the opportunity for Amazon to
perhaps reduce prices or introduce offers which would help them sell more products. I believe it
is entirely up to the company, this kind of competition would perhaps not effect Amazon due to
their size in the market and their reliability where customers instantly visit Amazon knowing they
will be given a fair price and receive their purchased item quickly. However, it did affect Jessops
who failed to respond to demand and lower prices resulting in there imminent administration. I don
t believe that the increased usage of the internet reduces profits as some firms can be incredibly

Descriptive Eassy On Teleflora
Teleflora Florist to Uncle Sam
Flowers are the epitome of beauty and delicacy. Whenever we think of them, beauty and fragility
is the first thing that comes to our minds. Fragility of flowers is closely linked to fragility of
human hearts. Flowers are one of the most beautiful things one could offer anyone on any special
occasion. The great thing about them? They even work when the occasion is not so special either.
Hand someone a flower in any situation, and you re done. A flower isn t remotely awkward in
any situation provided you have the right one. And there are places that let you make the best of
the choices you have. One of these is Teleflora. Teleflora is a reputed name amongst the florists as

Chick Fil A Swot Analysis
My company of choice is Chick fil A, and I believe an appropriate mission statement would be, to

influence on the families who enjoy it. Some objectives that the company could strive for to
achieve this goal could be to:
Retain a commitment to using fresh chicken and ingredients
Provide a family friendly atmosphere
Hire employees that respect customers and value the mission statement
Give back to the community
Treat employees with respect

Maybe it is difficult for the company to find a customer base outside the US, or maybe it would
be too difficult to find employees outside of the US who support and adhere to their mission
statement. Whatever their reason, I believe it would be beneficial to make an attempt at
expanding outside the United States. They also have a fraction of the locations that their
competitors possess. McDonald s currently has 36,900 stores, Burger King has 15,000, and Chick
fil A has about 2200. Again, Chick fil A does not have a significant presence outside the US, but
the other companies do, which could account for a large portion of the difference. Opening more
franchises would create a larger customer base for the company and would maximize profits,
changing this weakness to a strength. An opportunity for Chick fil A is the young people and
families who are moving to the metropolitan areas around the country (which is where most of the
restaurants are) need a family friendly, clean place to eat out. I believe that they will continue to
attract this client base if they continue to run the business as they have

In the film s final scene the two meet up and are free from their life of isolation, law, hate, and
racism. The film has some additional storytelling that I would like to discuss. The Shawshank
Redemption is done in chronological order, but there are some parts when the characters flash
back to earlier times in their live so you can understand what is happening in the film. This is
done so the viewer still has an easy way to follow the movie. The characters of the film face both
internal and external conflict. The internal conflict is should I continue this life when I know I
am innocent, and the external conflict is from the prison, the prisoners, and the prison staff. The
film does contain symbolism. An example of the symbolism is when the warden learns of his
fate and his last judgment by reading the morning newspaper of himself and the prison being
corrupt. Additionally, symbolism is used with the holy bible the warden reads; when he finds
the hammer that Andy uses to dig out of the prison. There is a passage from Exodus that is used
to symbolize the warden s salvation and Andy s escape. Also, there is a metaphor that I
remember and it happens when the librarian (Brooks Hatlen) is freed from jail and he takes his
own life. At the same time he hangs himself his bird (Jake) fly s away and is freed. The metaphor
is that the librarian is free of his lifelong nightmare of being told what

Commercial Harvesting Of Green Turtles
Marine species have been subjugated to overharvesting throughout human history, the lack of data
presents challenges to conservationists defining healthy populations. In the case of Hawaiian green
turtles, data compiled from commercial harvesting, economic demands, and previous exploitations
are insufficient for examining the original population. Historical studies like these can yield
information important to fisherymanagers and have the potential to redefine some populations
recoveries. The purpose of this study was to examine the influence commercial harvesting of green
turtles from 1948 to 1974, aside from early indigenous harvest. Current debates question whether
the population has rebounded since commercial harvest halted and has spurred further research.
The commercial fisheriesrecord of catch was not recorded using the present day surveys and
researchers are forced to explore the fisheries impact with influence from local inputs quantify the
catch per unit effort. This data they hope will give a better understanding to the population history
to improve conservation and management. The methods of extrapolating useful data to mimic
todays current survey numbers, researchers used various components to achieve similarity. Annual
catch was calculated using 635 reports from fishing vessels. Reports of only mass were compared

Antidepressants Should Be Treated Using Talk Therapy
I feel trapped , I feel empty , I feel hopeless and numb , are all ways that people have described
their depression. Usually this would be followed with going to the doctor and expressing how the
person feels and then the doctor prescribing an antidepressant. The question that stands is does
everyone on antidepressants actually need to be on antidepressants? Antidepressants should be
reserved for the cases and people who really need them rather than someone who has situational
depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or even seasonal affective disorder, all types of
depression that can be treated using talk therapy rather than medication (Illiades, 7 Side Effects of
Antidepressants).
Depression is a chemical imbalance of the brain, usually when the part of the brain that produces
serotonin produces the chemical in lower quantities (Rivas). Every year Americans consume
more anti depressants than any other nation in the world and from the years 1988 1994, the use
of anti depressants increased by 400% (Ross). Statistically speaking, women have a 70% chance
of developing depression over men and about 13% of the women who have children would
develop postpartum depression (Holms). There is no doubt that depression impacts a large amount
of people and affects the wallets of those with depression. Globally, 350,000,000 people suffer
from some form of depression, of those affected with depression; $80,000,000,000 is spent on

Free Market Economy
The United States is known to operate in a free market economy. In other words, the economy is
based solely on supply and demand with little to no government control. In reality, however, the
United States has various government regulations on our country s market. The amount of
regulation that is necessary is a continuing debate among politicians and economists to this day.
Some would say that the key to a successful market economy is to remove government
restrictions in order to force businesses to provide superior products and services at affordable
prices. Yet, others assert that government regulations are essential in protecting consumers,
stemming from the assumption that corporations are not always looking out for the public s
interest. Of course, there are various advantages and disadvantages associated with each level of
regulation, however it is safe to assume that there must be a balance between an unregulated free
market and a regulated economy in order to protect people and the environment and allow the
economy to flourish. Advantages of a Free Market Economy A free market is driven by individual
innovation and the concept that hard work and initiative will be rewarded with success. Because of
the ingenuity factor, there is plenty of competition in the market place. Therefore, the rivalry

this gives consumers the ability to let their voices be heard, since

Boy Scouts Research Paper
Many people believe the Boy Scouts of America, BSA program is blemished due to recent events.
However, I think the Boy Scout program is a great thing. This program gave me various life long
experiences and presented different aspects of the world. More importantly, this program shaped
my personal experiences by allowing me to understand the benefits of leadership, teamwork, and
improve communication.
The BSA is designed to foster leaders, service, teamwork and communication to build stronger
communities. I defined these terms in a manner that describes the actions and essence of words. A
leader, is someone who can drive other people toward a common goal. Service is defined as a
helpful act that contributes to the welfare of others. Teamwork... Show more content on

A prime example was when I lead a group of thirty seven people to complete my Eagle Scout
project. For this project, I directed the group to form a seventeen by twenty three foot pebbled
area and three extra large outdoor dog kennels. To accomplish this task the Boy Scout program
taught me how to think critically, to organize blue prints, investigate city ordinances, calculate
the yards of materials needed, and evaluate the depth of the anchors to avoid hitting underground
gas lines and plumbing by talking to City Public Service. Yes, of course the program also
reinforces safety. So again, all scouts must learn to look for signs of heat stroke, dehydration and
figure out where the local hospitals are in case of an emergency. In hindsight, I value the
importance of safety because I had to really watch the youth to make sure none of them cut off a
finger or a limb while working with power tools. In short, the program teaches scouts to value

Oh Rascal Children Of Gaza And Inside Out
The authors of the poems Oh Rascal Children of Gaza and Inside Out dissimilarly utilize
flashback in order to demonstrate the theme of appreciating what one may have before it s gone.
The poem Oh Rascal Children of Gaza, written by Khaled Juma, depicts a flashback of when a
certain group of children were present, expressed through the memories of the narrator. In the
beginning of the poem, the narrator has a distinct negative connotation of the children. The poem
opens with the line Oh rascal children of Gaza, and proceeds to list all the commotion they caused;
You who constantly disturbed me with your screams under my window/You who filled every
morning with rush and chaos/You who broke my vase and stole the lonely flower on my... Show

The narrator of the poem bounces back and forth between what the people of Gaza were
experiencing and what the spectators in Brazil were experiencing. The first change of scenery is
seen in lines 1 4 of the poem, People inside out/on the streets in their loved ones /arms people
screaming/in football stadiums (Beck). The people of Gaza are holding each other because they
are scared of the attack, while the spectators of the World Cup are shouting with passion for their
team to make a pass, or score a goal. Throughout the next few lines of the poem the bombings in
Gaza are illustrated, there s an old woman/who dies holding/her spoon waiting/ for iftar/which
comes but so do/the rockets (Beck 10 16). In the latter of the poem, a very significant and
moving shift between the two settings is shown, a player kisses a trophy/his wife his son/a
mother/kisses a dead child/grief inside out (Beck 50 54). The contrast between the settings
themselves is what really emphasizes the poem s theme of appreciating what one may have, as
the player is kissing his wife, son, and trophy, out of joy, but the mother is kissing her child who
has been killed, out of grief. The people viewing the World Cup were oblivious to the occurrences
in Gaza, which is what Zeina Hashem Beck was getting across to the

Personal Reflection Of Psychology
I enjoyed taking this class and learning about the foundations of psychology. This class was
interesting to me because it explained the reasons for many events in my life. Unlike a portion of
other topics I study, I could relate to the information within psychology. I tend to find topics much
more interesting when they apply to me and I can relate to them. Psychologyexplains the emotions,
feelings, thought processes, and development I experience. The most interesting topics to me were
human development, health psychology, psychological disorders, learning, and memory. Human
development discusses the changes a person experiences as they grow throughout life. This topic
covers the physical, cognitive, and socioemotional changes throughout our lifetime and how they
affect who we are and who we become. Human development includes both growth and decline in
areas of a person as they continue through life. This topic interested me because it showed me
how our learning capacities evolve as we grow. Before learning this chapter, I thought that people
generally became more intelligent as they are exposed to more information. I was not aware of
the concept of cognitive development and Piaget s stages. Object permanence and conservation
were interesting to me because I could see how our thinking changes. As a 17 year old, I can
understand that objects exist even when they cannot be seen and that two equal amounts of water
are always the same no matter what shape or size of glass they

Bitcoin has actually benefited the online casino industry from multiple standpoints, what often goes
unnoticed is the increase in casino variety it is providing. The costs of staring a small business

Joe Swanson s Power In The Case Of Martha Vandenberg
In the case of Martha Vandenberg, Joe Swanson did what he could in order to rid her from
Cornelius Mercker Elementary School. Although limited, as principal of the school, there were a
couple of powers that he utilized in order to deal with Martha. It is important to note that Joe only
had organizational power, and no personal power in this situation. The first power Joe used was
legitimate power. Often known as formal authority, legitimate power comes from having a
position in an organization that commands authority (pg. 414). When Martha claimed she could
not teach on the second floor due to a fractured toe, as her boss, Joe had the power to ask for a

Biblical Overtones In East Of Eden, By John Steinbeck
The novel, East of Eden, features Biblical overtones from the stories of Genesis. The novel was
written by John Steinbeck and turned into a film by Elia Kazan in 1955. Kazan s purpose was to
show how the Bible could influence media and culture. The film was released on April 10th, 1955
and featured James Deanas Cal, Richard Davalos as Aron, Julie Harris as Abra, Raymond Massey
as Adam, and Jo Van Fleet as Kate. East of Eden is set in the time before and after America
joined World War I. The Trask family, who lives in Salinas Valley, is trying to make it through
the tumultuous times. Cal is the youngest son and sees himself as the black sheep of the family,
due to his tendency to be bad and rebellious. Cal is always competing with his older brother
Aron, who seems to be perfect in every way. Aron is their father s favorite and Cal desperately
wants their father s love and affection. After his father loses most of his money trying to ship

My time in Banff brought about some amazing learning moments for me; some more direct than
others.
I will be sharing a couple of the ripple effect lessons I learned upon returning home. What I had
learned made me question further some of the concepts I had pondered before...one of them being
our need to be productive.
A large part of the reason why I was having trouble settling in and simply enjoying my time in
Banff was because I had an underlying need to be productive. Even though at a conscious level I
no longer buy into and accept that our time needs to be filled with productive pursuits (not to be
confused with purpose), at a subconscious level that belief was buried quite deep, and so my two
minds were struggling with each other.
We have been raised in a culture that highly values productivity, and that in itself wouldn t be such
a bad thing if we hadn t taken it to extremes. We have come to value ourselves based on how
productive we are, which has led us to be driven, to push ourselves, and to preserve under all
conditions...and if

The Chinese Martial Arts Film
Most Martial arts films in China generally tend to foreground issues of gender. In addition, these
films portray a fixed line of gender separation. The Chinese Martial arts film culture has always
been more receptive to the general idea of the female character in what Westerners would indeed
consider exclusively male role such as the action hero (Castillo 3). In the martial art films several
actress have even established their entire reputations as action stars. The action heroes were also
held up as the idea of masculinity with all of its inherent characteristics of control, privilege and
agency. This is actually adopted from the western archetypes of male action hero which emphasize
connotations of physical presence and prominent body musculature. The emergence of the Chinese
martial artshas resulted to convergence of social, economic and political pressures that along with
creative talents of producers, writers, actors and directors, have indeed forged a national cinema
that captured attention of the world wide cinematic consciousness. Majority of the Chinese martial
arts movies are distinctively known in cultivating the concept of genderroles. A close analysis of
these movies ultimately portrays that multiple characters from the both genders not only play an
immense role in the martial arts aspect of the films, but indeed symbolize Chinese themes as well
as some of the issues that the country was going through at that particular time. In these regard, in

Henry V Theme Of War
Known as one of the greatest warrior kings in all of English history, Henry V has left a hefty
impression. In Shakespeare s play of the same name, the monarch battles literally with France for
the throne and figuratively with accountability and being a just ruler and conqueror. Through the
story, we can see the values Henry holds and how the real implications of war aren t something the
king cannot deal with in a proper manner. The debate between King Henry and the common
soldiers like Williams and Bates illustrate fundamental problems with Henry s rule and asks
important questions about the motives behind war itself. In Act 4, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Henry V

He ignores the responsibility of the king for putting all these lives in danger. He denies the fault
of the king for waging the war, and instead deflects the blame onto the will of God. Basically, his
response to the soldiers is that they must be spiritually prepared when they go into battle
because the king is not responsible for their deaths. This is a believe that is horribly ignorant and
unfair to the people who might actually lose their lives. When the king conquers the French port
on the mouth of the Seine, he insults them and states that God is on their side. Eventually, he
implies that the French should feel badly for being responsible for the death of their many
citizens at the hands of English. However, the same doesn t apply for himself when he could be
leading his men to their deaths. This might be because he thinks God s favor lies with England but
it is of course foolish and hypocritical to believe this. Using religion as a shield is a method Henry
uses throughout the play, stating the kingdom of England has God on their side on multiple
occasions. This aversion of guilt continually demonstrates Henry s doubt in himself and fragile

Since this symbol sets at the beginning, it serves as a guideline and introduction of the whole
story so that the audiences are more aware of in which way the story will be told and how to
understand the story. This event by adding symbols also adds more favors as well as provides
foreshadowing: it adds meanings of repenting guilt, wars, family issues and remorse, all of
which happened later in the story. Another Symbolic reference of time going backwards is the

To this day, when I want to stop doing something that is difficult it s much easier to look back

Cutting weight is when someone will try to drastically reduce their weight in a short period of
time through a variety of methods. The deaths of these three collegiate wrestlers resulted in a hasty
decision from the NCAA in an attempt to prevent any more injuries or deaths. An article by Terry
Larimer on The Morning Call explains the that policy banned the use of rubber suits and saunas for
use in weight cutting practices because they drastically increase body temperature and
dehydration, which was the root cause for the deaths of these three wrestlers (Larimer). Larimer
also explains changes the NCAA made to the weight classes, adding a seven pound weight
allowance to all of the weight classes so that athletes would not have to lose as much weight, with
the stipulation that all weigh in times for competitions would be held 2 hours prior to the event
rather than 24 hours (Larimer). This rule was enacted to discourage athletes from cutting weight on

Benefits And Disadvantages Of Using Social Media
Analyse the benefits and disadvantages of using social media to market to the various different
stakeholder groups Social media tools are disruptive technologies that have radically altered the
way people view and use communication. This transformation is occurring in many ways and in
many places that influence lifestyle and social interaction. (Grover and Stewart, 2010, p.7).
Grover and Stewart (2010) express that social media is a technology that has changed the way
people interact and communicate in our day to day lives. Looking at Grover and Stewarts
theory, it suggests alteration in the way we converse as a society, having an influence on many
topics, one of which being business engagement. A stakeholder is someone who can have an

happiness is what they will secure. For example, say one person has a goal to get a great job and

There are however, several restrictions that prevent the military from being able to directly

The Slippery Slope of Gay Marriage Essay
The Slippery Slope of Gay Marriage
AFTER GAY MARRIAGE, what will become of marriage itself? Will same sex matrimony
extend marriage s stabilizing effects to homosexuals? Will gay marriage undermine family life? A
lot is riding on the answers to these questions. But the media s reflexive labeling of doubts about
gay marriage as homophobia has made it almost impossible to debate the social effects of this
reform. Now with the Supreme Court s ringing affirmation of sexual liberty in Lawrence v. Texas,
that debate is unavoidable.
Among the likeliest effects of gay marriage is to take us down a slippery slope to legalized
polygamy and quot;polyamory quot; (group marriage). Marriage will be transformed into a variety
of relationship ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
True, a small number of relatively conservative gay spokesmen do consider the social effects of gay
matrimony, insisting that they will be beneficent, that homosexual unions will become more stable.
Yet another faction of gay rights advocates actually favors gay marriage as a step toward the
abolition of marriage itself. This group agrees that there is a slippery slope, and wants to hasten the
slide down.
To consider what comes after gay marriage is not to say that gay marriage itself poses no danger
to the institution of marriage. Quite apart from the likelihood that it will usher in legalized
polygamy and polyamory, gay marriage will almost certainly weaken the belief that monogamy
lies at the heart of marriage. But to see why this is so, we will first need to reconnoiter the slippery
slope.
Promoting polygamy
DURING THE 1996 congressional debate on the Defense of Marriage Act, which affirmed the
ability of the states and the federal government to withhold recognition from same sex marriages,
gay marriage advocates were put on the defensive by the polygamy question. If gays had a right to
marry, why not polygamists? Andrew Sullivan, one of gay marriage s most intelligent defenders,
labeled the question fear mongering akin to the discredited belief that interracial marriage would
lead to birth defects. quot;To the best of my knowledge, quot; said Sullivan, quot;there is no

John Of Gaunt Research Paper
John of Gaunt was born in 1340 during a time of great strife, to King Edward III of England and
his wife, Phillippa (Walker). He was raised in the household of his elder brother, Edward, Prince
of Wales, and introduced into military life quite early (Walker). He was brought up as a prince

nobility, besides his multiple titles, was his investiture as a knight of the Garter in April 1361

His marriage had granted him considerable amounts of land, and he inherited the prestigious title
Duke of Lancaster when his father in law died (Walker). Blanche of Lancaster died in 1369
(Buescher), leaving Gaunt to marry his second wife, Constance of Castile. She was the daughter
of King Pedro of Spain, making her a princess in her own right. Upon their marriage, Gaunt
became King of Castile and Leon (Buescher). After these two marriages, Gaunt found himself
even more rich and powerful. After recognizing the failing health of his father, the king, and his
brother, the Prince of Wales, he was made the king s captain and lieutenant (Marks). After his
father and brother died, his 11 year old nephew, Richard, took the throne of England (Marks).
Through this, he again had immense power and strength behind the crown. After his son deposed
Richard II, John became even more powerful, now the father of the King of England. He proved
to be an excellent military and political force, acting as a king behind the scenes , particularly for
his young nephew Richard II. However, during the English Peasant s Revolt in 1381, John of
Gaunt lost some favor with the English people and his nephew. Gaunt is generally regarded as the

John Mayer Essay
Performer: John Mayer
Performer s Life Span:Mayer was born on October 16, 1977 in Connecticut. Mayer is currently
living and still records and plays music.
Location:
John Mayer was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut. Mayer spent his adolescent years in Connecticut
until finally moving away to Berklee College of Music in Boston. Mayer dropped out of college
and moved to Atlanta, Georgia and this is where his music career started. After traveling around
doing tours for many years Mayer finally settled down and currently lives in Bozeman, Montana.
Band Members: John Mayer sang many songs on his own however he formed a band in 2005
called the John Mayer Trio. Beyond Mayer the other two members in the band are bass player Pino

There was only one instrument used in this song and that was an acoustic guitar played by
Mayer himself. In this song the tone color was soft throughout the whole song. He played a
quiet but sweet guitar sound. He sang the song in a low pitch without ever getting loud which
made the song have more emotion. I believe there was compression used on this song because in
some parts of the song where he is singing in a higher pitch the music never got any louder.
Furthermore, reverb was used as well because as you listen to the music you can hear the
acoustic guitar reflection even after he has played the note. This song fits perfect into John
Mayer s singing and guitar playing style. His style is singing in a soft tone that is sweet and not
very loud and this song fits that perfectly. In addition, he plays his guitar and highlights his skills
in some parts of the song which is what he likes to do in many of his songs. Mayer also sings
with a lot of emotion and this song you can just feel the emotion in the guitar and his voice. The
emotion that Mayer sings with is something that is really phenomenal about his musical style. In
this song, his message is that parents should spend time and love on your children and show them
how to love because one day they will be parents themselves. He highlights how relationships are
important and parents should lead by example so that their children will have good

The Contributions Of Artists During The World War One War
Part A Plan of Investigation
Beginning on August 4th, 1914 to November 11th, 1918, Canada was a part of World War One
between the Triple Entente and the Triple Alliance. The First World War brought changes to every
aspect of the world from society to medicine to the arts. This investigation aims to evaluate the
contributions of artists in the World War One war effort. To determine the extent of the artists
contributions, the investigation will focus on art created during this time for the war effort such as
propaganda posters, dazzle camouflage and military camouflage. To analyze the contributions, I
will be looking at photographs and images of dazzle camouflage, propaganda posters and military
camouflage as primary sources found on the website and at the Canadian War Museum but also
using databases and websites such as the Canadian government website for secondary sources and
other information.
Part B Summary of Evidence
Artists Prior to World War One:
A new form of art was born called modernism which helped to describe the new world
Women were also engaging in art
In September 1886, a group of young women artists organized a club strictly for art
In 1907, the association became the Women s Art Association of Canadawith a bill passed in the
House of Commons
War Artists
Sir Max Aitken, later known as Lord Beaverbrook, recognized the necessity of film and
photographs for propaganda but felt that paintings could best portray Canada at war

Having short passing periods can make a student s grade go down or worse when students are late to class. This can be prevented by extending passing periods to 10 minutes. Although the staff at H.P.M.S may disapprove, but in the long run, they will see the effects of having longer passing periods has on students. Because of the short timeof passing periods, students at Happy Place Middle School are petitioning to extend their passing periodtime to 10 minutes. In short, some of the positive effects are that students can get to class on time, and gives students and teachers time to prepare. In addition to that, when the passing period time is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... And also, the traffic in the halls often crawls at the SPEED OF MOLASSES. Simply to say, it can make you very late for class. Students also go to their class missing their books because they don t have time to go to the locker to get their materials. This makes it worse for students because they are unable to do work (Abdelmalek). Furthermore into the topic, the 10 minute passing period lets and/or helps teachers prepare for their next period. A longer passing period would prevent students from asking to go use the bathroom, get a drink, or be late, so teacher(s) have the student s full concentration, If your student doesn t have to interrupt you to use the restroom or get some water, it is going to be a better learning environment for the rest of the students. Without these interruptions you may continue your lesson and have student s full concentration, instead of worrying about their personal needs (Medina). And also in addition to that, teachers will have more time to prepare for their next class compared to 5 minutes, so teachers can get coffee or take a break during the passing period. Therefore, passing periods should be extended to 10 minutes since there are upsides and very few downsides, the upsides: Have more time to get to their classes, students can be spared from the worst ... • 4. Catchers Helmet Case Study Catchers equipment for youth players has two important objectives. First, it needs to offer safe protection for the catcher. Second, it must fit securely so that the player can do their job. Here are some examples of excellent options for catchers equipment for youth ages The Catchers Helmet Standard catcher masks and skullcaps are no longer permitted in youth leagues. Younger catchers must wear the full hockey style helmet. When rating helmets you need to consider protection first and foremost, then visibility and comfort. Directors have awarded compensation packages that go well beyond what is required to attract and hold on to executives and have rewarded even poorly performing executives. These executive pay excesses come at the expense of shareholders as well as the company and its employees. Furthermore, a poorly designed executive compensation package can reward decisions that are not in the long term interests of a company. Excessive CEO pay is essentially a corporate governance problem. When CEOs have too much power in the boardroom, they are able to extract what economists call economic rents from shareholders (Economic rent is distinct from economic profit, which is the difference between a firm s revenues and the opportunity cost of its inputs). The board of directors is supposed to protect shareholder interests and minimize these costs. At approximately two thirds of US companies, the CEO sits as the board s chair. When one single person serves as both chair and CEO, it is impossible to objectively monitor and evaluate his or her own performance. What can be done about this? The best thing that can happen to let shareholders know about CEO executive pay excesses is to let it come to light. • 8. Moliere s Tartuffe By William Moliere The Enlightenment ushered in the idea that reason should be exercised in thinking instead of passion. Moliere s Tartuffe was written to challenge the dominant political and religious views of its time. The Catholic church viewed Moliere s Tartuffe as a threat to their faith and banned the play from being performed in public. Moliere became one of the great Enlightenment thinkers because of his willingness to speak out against the large corrupt institutions that many people did not have the courage to question. Marcel Gutwirth states, Who is Tartuffe? Who is the wretch come barefoot into the home of a man of some wealth and note who, in the teeth of almost universal detestation, establishes a grip upon that household so tenacious that the intervention of the sovereign is needed to shake him loose and send him packing? The play, as had been remarked, refuses to make up its mind. The rubicund glutton of the second act or the sinister jail bird of the fifth, the religious hypocrite or the professional confidence man, the professed nobleman the provinces or the penniless impostor make for a range that takes in some mutually exclusive possibilities. Two things stand out: he does lay claim to a very special relation to heaven; and, though far less overtly, sex exercises an equally strong claim on his person. A third fact, which we shall take up first, is his successful occupation of that well nigh impregnable fastness, the interior of an affluent French household the ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The film has some additional storytelling that I would like to discuss. The Shawshank Redemption is done in chronological order, but there are some parts when the characters flash back to earlier times in their live so you can understand what is happening in the film. This is done so the viewer still has an easy way to follow the movie. The characters of the film face both internal and external conflict. The internal conflict is should I continue this life when I know I am innocent, and the external conflict is from the prison, the prisoners, and the prison staff. The film does contain symbolism. An example of the symbolism is when the warden learns of his fate and his last judgment by reading the morning newspaper of himself and the prison being corrupt. Additionally, symbolism is used with the holy bible the warden reads; when he finds the hammer that Andy uses to dig out of the prison. There is a passage from Exodus that is used to symbolize the warden s salvation and Andy s escape. Also, there is a metaphor that I remember and it happens when the librarian (Brooks Hatlen) is freed from jail and he takes his own life. Usually this would be followed with going to the doctor and expressing how the person feels and then the doctor prescribing an antidepressant. The question that stands is does everyone on antidepressants actually need to be on antidepressants? Antidepressants should be reserved for the cases and people who really need them rather than someone who has situational depression, premenstrual dysphoric disorder, or even seasonal affective disorder, all types of depression that can be treated using talk therapy rather than medication (Illiades, 7 Side Effects of Antidepressants). I will be sharing a couple of the ripple effect lessons I learned upon returning home. What I had learned made me question further some of the concepts I had pondered before...one of them being our need to be productive. A large part of the reason why I was having trouble settling in and simply enjoying my time in Banff was because I had an underlying need to be productive. Even though at a conscious level I no longer buy into and accept that our time needs to be filled with productive pursuits (not to be confused with purpose), at a subconscious level that belief was buried quite deep, and so my two minds were struggling with each other. We have been raised in a culture that highly values productivity, and that in itself wouldn t be such a bad thing if we hadn t taken it to extremes. We have come to value ourselves based on how productive we are, which has led us to be driven, to push ourselves, and to preserve under all conditions...and if ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 28. The Chinese Martial Arts Film Most Martial arts films in China generally tend to foreground issues of gender. In addition, these films portray a fixed line of gender separation. The Chinese Martial arts film culture has always been more receptive to the general idea of the female character in what Westerners would indeed consider exclusively male role such as the action hero (Castillo 3). In the martial art films several actress have even established their entire reputations as action stars. The action heroes were also held up as the idea of masculinity with all of its inherent characteristics of control, privilege and agency. This is actually adopted from the western archetypes of male action hero which emphasize connotations of physical presence and prominent body musculature. The emergence of the Chinese martial artshas resulted to convergence of social, economic and political pressures that along with creative talents of producers, writers, actors and directors, have indeed forged a national cinema that captured attention of the world wide cinematic consciousness. Majority of the Chinese martial arts movies are distinctively known in cultivating the concept of genderroles. A close analysis of these movies ultimately portrays that multiple characters from the both genders not only play an immense role in the martial arts aspect of the films, but indeed symbolize Chinese themes as well as some of the issues that the country was going through at that particular time. • 29. Henry V Theme Of War Known as one of the greatest warrior kings in all of English history, Henry V has left a hefty impression. In Shakespeare s play of the same name, the monarch battles literally with France for the throne and figuratively with accountability and being a just ruler and conqueror. Through the story, we can see the values Henry holds and how the real implications of war aren t something the king cannot deal with in a proper manner. The debate between King Henry and the common soldiers like Williams and Bates illustrate fundamental problems with Henry s rule and asks important questions about the motives behind war itself. In Act 4, Scene 1 of Shakespeare s Henry V , the king does incognito in a cloak to interact with the everyman of his army. This... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... He ignores the responsibility of the king for putting all these lives in danger. He denies the fault of the king for waging the war, and instead deflects the blame onto the will of God. Basically, his response to the soldiers is that they must be spiritually prepared when they go into battle because the king is not responsible for their deaths. This is a believe that is horribly ignorant and unfair to the people who might actually lose their lives. When the king conquers the French port on the mouth of the Seine, he insults them and states that God is on their side. Eventually, he implies that the French should feel badly for being responsible for the death of their many citizens at the hands of English. However, the same doesn t apply for himself when he could be leading his men to their deaths. This might be because he thinks God s favor lies with England but it is of course foolish and hypocritical to believe this. Using religion as a shield is a method Henry uses throughout the play, stating the kingdom of England has God on their side on multiple occasions. This aversion of guilt continually demonstrates Henry s doubt in himself and fragile ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

However, the process of death contains double meanings in this particular story: one is that the one goes from young to old like Daisy; the other is from the old to young like Benjamin. The film indicates that the hummingbird is the symbol of infinity since it always draws the gesture of 8 ; it suggests that death does not bring the end to the story but opens up a new start, just like Benjamin dies as a baby but his death signifies newness in life. Cutting weight is when someone will try to drastically reduce their weight in a short period of time through a variety of methods. The deaths of these three collegiate wrestlers resulted in a hasty decision from the NCAA in an attempt to prevent any more injuries or deaths. An article by Terry Larimer on The Morning Call explains the that policy banned the use of rubber suits and saunas for use in weight cutting practices because they drastically increase body temperature and dehydration, which was the root cause for the deaths of these three wrestlers (Larimer). Larimer also explains changes the NCAA made to the weight classes, adding a seven pound weight allowance to all of the weight classes so that athletes would not have to lose as much weight, with the stipulation that all weigh in times for competitions would be held 2 hours prior to the event rather than 24 hours (Larimer). Benefits And Disadvantages Of Using Social Media Analyse the benefits and disadvantages of using social media to market to the various different stakeholder groups Social media tools are disruptive technologies that have radically altered the way people view and use communication. This transformation is occurring in many ways and in many places that influence lifestyle and social interaction. (Grover and Stewart, 2010, p.7). Grover and Stewart (2010) express that social media is a technology that has changed the way people interact and communicate in our day to day lives. But the media s reflexive labeling of doubts about gay marriage as homophobia has made it almost impossible to debate the social effects of this reform. Now with the Supreme Court s ringing affirmation of sexual liberty in Lawrence v. Texas, that debate is unavoidable. Among the likeliest effects of gay marriage is to take us down a slippery slope to legalized polygamy and quot;polyamory quot; (group marriage). True, a small number of relatively conservative gay spokesmen do consider the social effects of gay matrimony, insisting that they will be beneficent, that homosexual unions will become more stable. Yet another faction of gay rights advocates actually favors gay marriage as a step toward the abolition of marriage itself. This group agrees that there is a slippery slope, and wants to hasten the slide down. To consider what comes after gay marriage is not to say that gay marriage itself poses no danger to the institution of marriage. Quite apart from the likelihood that it will usher in legalized polygamy and polyamory, gay marriage will almost certainly weaken the belief that monogamy lies at the heart of marriage. But to see why this is so, we will first need to reconnoiter the slippery slope. Promoting polygamy DURING THE 1996 congressional debate on the Defense of Marriage Act, which affirmed the ability of the states and the federal government to withhold recognition from same sex marriages, gay marriage advocates were put on the defensive by the polygamy question. If gays had a right to marry, why not polygamists?
