Memory Rehearsal
Abstract
The aim of this study was to investigate the impacts of chunking information on memory recall,
testing the hypothesis chunking or categorization has a positive effect on memory recall . The
undergraduate Psychology students (648) from Western Sydney University partook in this
experiment. Participants were given a list of random and chunked words respectively and were
asked to recollect as many words as possible. The lists contained 25 words with the first word list
arranged randomly and the chunked list consisting of 5 distinct groups containing 5 words each.
The results from the experiment exhibited a notable difference between the number of words
recollected from the two lists, supporting the proposed hypothesis as well as previous ... Show more

Summary Of Hester Prynne
In this chapter, a crowd of bearded men and women are standing outside of the door to what is
probably the prison. The narrator, who is the man who found the documents in the custom house,
discusses the vision of the perfect world the Puritans who settled there and how they ironically
built a prison and a cemetery as the first buildings when they arrived in the new world. A beautiful
rose bush stands, out of place, by the prison door.
In this chapter, Hester Prynne, a young woman, emerges from a prison door while carrying a child.
Prynne is to be condemned for committing adultery and for giving birth to an illegitimate child. As
she makes her way to the platform, the women in the crowd makes criticizing comments about the
elaborate letter A stitched onto her chest. Prynne then remembers her earlier life about her
childhood and questions if her current situation is real.
In this chapter, Hester Prynne is on a scaffold and spots someone she recognizes in the crowd.
The man, who she recognizes, learns about Hester s crime (adultery) from a townsman. Hester is
then called to attention by John Wilson and is asked by Mr. Dimmesdale to name the father of her
child. Despite his pleads, she refuses to name the man and is led back to prison.
In this chapter, Hester meets her husband in the prison when he was called to provide medical
service. Hester at first refuses to drink the medicine he provided thinking its poison, but eventually
drinks it when he said that he would not seek

Descriptive Essay About A Descriptive Paper
Descriptive Paper I pulled up beside the gym of Evangelical Free Church, my church, at six o
clock, Wednesday, October 18, 2017, just in time for band practice. A man named Keith had
invited me to join With my electric guitar, my reverb effect pedal, and my amp in tow, I walked
up to a door on the side of the gym and I knocked, yielding no response, to my dismay. In a search
for the band, I made a round trip, checking the church s office and the sanctuary, but they were
nowhere to be found. Was practice cancelled? Confused, I call Keith, the leader, and when he
finally answered, I asked, Is band practice still going on tonight? Yeah, I m just running late, he
replied nonchalantly, I ll be down there in twenty minutes. So I sat in... Show more content on

After turning the alarm off, Keith held open the door to the left that led to the wide open gym
and then the four of us made our way to the youth room, again to our left. The camp style lights
came on, revealing that the youth room was a disarray of chairs, sports supplies, and, on the
stage , various cords and other audio equipment. Beside the stage was the door I had knocked.
The room smelled faintly like new carpet; it clearly had been renovated recently. The white walls
were decorated with strange pattern of navy blue, lime green, and golden yellow paint streaks,
but the mixture of colors gave the room a welcoming vibe, very pleasant for my first practice.
Then, Karli got out her half size keyboard and Keith his laptop, his even smaller keyboard, and
what appeared to be a drum synthesizer. Meanwhile, Jenna hooked up the vocal system up to the
audio mixer beside Keith. While they set up their equipment, I set down my equipment beside a
dusty, full sized keyboard. In a search for an outlet to plug my amp into, my eyes darted around the
room for a few moments, which thankfully led Keith to reveal a compartment in the floor that
housed a set of outlets.
When the band s instruments were ready, Karli, Keith and Jenna made sure they all had the same
sheet music, some of which I was sure I lacked, but they did not ask me right away. Instead, Karli
and Jenna distracted from the task by telling

Essay 3: The Myth of the Melting Pot
13 November 2015
The Myth of the Melting Pot
It is popularly believed that America is the biggest and most famous melting pot in the world.
American history began with waves of immigrants bringing their own traditions, and culture to a
new country. America is not the only country that is known as a melting pot, other countries like
Russia are also practicing the melting pot; however, America is the only place that has such a
diverse population and manages to make it work. Social media around the world, especially
public relations of the American government has been working hard for years to make a uniform
state that works equally for everybody, without taking in to consideration who they are or where
they came from. However, since the beginning of that theory, we have seen a lot of prejudice
between social, religious, and national aspects around the world. Let s us consider whether or not
the melting pot truly works in both countries or if it is just a myth?
First of all, let us try to understand what it means to be prejudice. The dictionary defines prejudice
as unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic,
racial, social, or religious group. According to the article Causes of prejudice by Vincent N. Parrillo
prejudicial attitudes combine negatively and positively in society. Additionally, he considers
prejudice not only a

Driverless Vehicles
An addition to the world of technology is the introduction of driverless vehicles. Many
companies including Google, Audi, BMW and Mercedes are investing in this project. The idea of
a vehicle driving itself has been of great interest to companies and manufacturers all over the
world are using technology to build and test such vehicles. Governments around the world are on
board with this venture and they are reviewing the Highway Code, legal frameworks and
legislative changes to accommodate the development of driverless vehicles (Department of
transport, 2015). However, it may seem that not everyone is comfortable with the idea of
autonomous vehicles. The moral ramifications associated with driverless cars seem to be one
reason why people are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
That it is the responsibility of humans, just as it is with manual vehicles to maintain a good level of
concentration at times of driving the vehicle. This may be true but it could be argued that it is
easier to concentrate when a human is actually driving. That a passenger may not be as attentive
to the road and its surroundings as much as a driver is. If the driver is going to act like the
passenger in a driverless vehicle then the concern would be that is it possible to be that attentive
when not actually driving? It is suggested that manufactures of driverless vehicles monitor the
performance of test drivers and see if their levels of concentration are good and if they represent
any risks (Department for transport, 2015). However, many questions arise about how these tests
will take place, how will humans be monitored on their concentration abilities. What will happen in
the case of failing such tests? How will the roads look with humans and robots driving alongside

Iraq Culture
From the beginning of Iraq s history, it has had numerous challenges, conflicts, and changes within
its borders, which have aided in the evolution of its culture and have advanced it to where it stands
today. Dating back to ancient times, the majority of Iraq was part of ancient Mesopotamia, which
consisted of many diverse cultures that stays constant throughout history (). Its current economic
hardships are rivaled by its once booming economy, driven by its oil production (). In the past
century, Iraqhas gone through three major political transformations (). These changes have brought

Iraq once had a formidable military that was able to wage war with Iran for eight years. With
great loss of life on both sides and neither side gaining or losing territory, the war ended ().
However, this did not stop Iraq from attacking Kuwait a few years later (). After this war ended
abruptly, the Iraqi military still possessed a wide range of sophisticated air defense systems from
various countries such as Russia and China. Despite the numerous components of the integrated
air defense systems, its actual operating capabilities were quite limited. The system was designed
to counter comparatively limited threats from a Western air campaign (). Currently, Iraq s air
defense capabilities are being bolstered by Russian state of the art close range air defense
complexes and multiple launch heavy flame blast systems () to help eliminate the countries
newest threat, which are calling themselves the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria also known as ISIS
(). The threat of the hybrid jihadist group, ISIS, has diminished the advancements of Iraq s current
military strength. Its strategy for survival and growth blends military, political, social, and
economic components (). In June 2014, the once proud Iraqi army simply collapsed and failed to
defend the country s second largest city, Mosul, from approximately 1200 ISIS

Hurricanes form only in warm ocean waters near the equator. Cumulonimbus clouds are present,
the warm air over the ocean rises and high and low air pressure pushes new warm air. Then air
rises and begin to swirl. Storms north of the equator tend to spin counterclockwise while storms
south spin clockwise. When the storm keeps rotating quickly an eye forms, and when the winds
reach 39 mph it is officially a called a tropical storm. And when the storm reaches 74 mph then it is
safe to call it a tropical cyclone or hurricane. (How do hurricanes form, 2016)
In order for a hurricane to occur the atmosphere must meet certain conditions. The ocean water has
to be warm about 80 degrees Fahrenheit, because

Alan Greenspan Pros And Cons
Alan Greenspan, born in New York City on March 6, 1926, grew up surrounded by economics as
his father of Romanian Jewish decent worked as a stockbroker and financial analyst. When he was
five years old, Greenspan expressed his skill in mathematics by reciting baseball batting averages
and performing large calculations in his head. He attended George Washington High School, where
he played clarinet and saxophone with classmate and future musician Stan Getz. After graduating,
Greenspan studied clarinet at Juilliard for a short time before transferring to New York University.
At NYU, Greenspan began studying economics and completed his undergraduate and graduate

During this period, many Internet based companies, commonly referred to as dot coms, were
founded, many of which failed. Academics Preston Teeter and Jorgen Sandberg criticized
Greenspan for his role in the promotion and rise in tech stocks. Their research cites numerous
examples of Greenspan putting a positive spin on historic stock valuations despite a wealth of
evidence suggesting that stocks were overvalued. Sequentially, he was criticized for contributing to
the subprime mortgage crisis. When his fifth term expired in 2006, Greenspan retired from his
position at the Federal Reserve Board. His successor in this role was Ben Bernanke. In 2011, the
bipartisan Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission found that during the U.S. housing bubble of the
early 2000s, Greenspan s failure to limit trade in securities backed by mortgage loans and his
advocacy of deregulation of the financial industry had contributed to the global financial crisis of
2008. Wall Street and Greenspan often found themselves at odds. Most business papers have
shaped Greenspan as being rabidly opposed to inflation. Greenspan was criticized for pursuing a
battle against inflation when he could have used his power to reach full employment or economic
growth

Short Story Chapter 2
There was a noticeable shift in temperature as the sun began its slow descent toward the horizon,

pink and orange tones. Across from the aquatic center, Tom and Dennis loitered at a bus stop, their
teenage attire helping them to blend into the urban environment. However, despite his outwardly
composed appearance, Tom was anything but calm. His eyes scanned the street, searching for any

Tom stepped forward, the right corner of his upper lip curling into a sneer. Yeah? Well, when we re
talking about money, we re always punctual. Right, Brady?
Right, Booker confirmed, his tough guy mask showing little emotion. He was happy to let Tom take
the lead, especially if it helped bolster his confidence. He trusted the young officer s abilities, and
there was no point in them both fighting for the dominant role.
Tyrell nodded at the two teens by his side. This is Seth and Joel, he introduced. They re friends of
mine.
Don t care, Tom replied in a bored voice. Let s get down to business.
A wide grin spread across Tyrell s face. So far, McQuaid and Brady were living up to their
reputations, and he mentally started to visualize all the cool things he could buy with the extra
money he would make after recruiting the two misfits. But first they had to pass the test, and with
a twitch of his head, he turned and walked toward the back of the building. Follow me.

the rear, their heads bowed together in deep conversation. Their voices

Urvashi Butaliaia After Partition
Recent feminist historiography by scholars like Urvashi Butalia has demonstrated that amid
Partition, abducting women from the other group turned into a typical approach to shame the
Muslim/Hindu/Sikh other; the apportionment of ladies from the other group was an approach to
influence the collective honor, religious sentiment and the physical propagation of that group. This
was the condition of the state after Partition. Nationalist discourse not just developed women as
agents of ethnic community and honor; they additionally just valorised the Hindu/Sikh womanwho,
under danger of assault or kidnapping, conferred suicide and in this way shielded her honor. As
obvious in Chand s remark, it was the subjectivity of women who submitted suicide

Just outside of Paris, France lies another great historical site, the Palace of Versailles. Even
though this palace has so much to look at on the inside ranging from giant gold statues to
beautiful designs painted on the ceiling, I became interested about what I saw on the outside of
those giant walls. The Palace of Versailles has a very unique arrangement of water fountains that
each show some Baroque characteristics. For instance, my favorite one has to be Enceladus
Fountain. It is a fountain of one of the great titans, Enceladus, being buried under a heaping pile of
rocks because the titans disobeyed the Roman God Jupiter after he told them not to try to Mt.
Olympus (Graves, 1960). I think that because of the number of fountains and elegant interior
design of the buildings in the Palace of Versailles, the people of Paris are rich in Greek mythology

Secondary Prevention Programs Essay
The Secondary Prevention Programs provide treatment such as psychological counseling to youths
and adults that have violated the law. Unfortunately, there is an extreme disconnect in providing
adequate services to people that have committed crimes after they have met all rehabilitative
requirements under the law. The prisonsystem was initially designed to rehabilitate people that
have operated outside of the confines of law so that once their debt is paid they are to assimilate
back into society. If a person completes their prison sentence and returns to normal society with no
options of creating a productive life is it safe to say that we create criminals and punish them for
their crimes. Crisis counseling should be provided and required for all citizens that have completed

Saussure s System For Evaluating Linguistics Essay
In Course in General Linguistics , Saussure does two things to develop his system for evaluating
linguistics: he chooses language as his linguistic object and he only incorporates factors into his
model that can be said to be true of all languages over all time. The net result is a very high level
and flexible classification structure, which is more intent on making a developmental framework
for evaluating linguisticsthan necessarily providing tremendous insight into it s more concrete
aspects: rudiments like structure, meaning, morphology, syntax, or phonology.
Others, including Levi Strauss in Structural Anthropology , have used
Saussure s methodology to develop their own models for study in different aspects of human
society. But ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
But I feel he still needed to explicitly say it: that despite all the differences between languages, I
have identified these invariants to be true over all time, and I believe this is because of certain
specific commonalities between all humans, particularly the human desire to create and maintain an
effective and convenient system for communicating ideas with one another. Levi Strauss additional
step provides a sense of completeness to the process; that is to say that the last step provides the
why and what while Saussure s method provides the how .
Incorporating the Levi Strauss step gives us a new line of thought to ponder: engineering and
design. Going through the steps: Structural Anthropology first hypothesizes that myths exist to
provide people with anecdotes to help explain the unanswerable questions of their society such as
life versus death or love, etc. Then Levi
Strauss applies Saussure s method, designating a mythological object, in this case the myth itself,
and then determining a set of invariants true to all myths. The most interesting of these invariants is
the use of categories to deconstruct the events of a story into specific event types, which are
common across all myths. And finally, Levi Strauss uses his myth decomposition to draw
conclusions about the myth s moral and, by extension, the society that uses this myth.

Introduction Osteoarthritis is a non inflammatory, degenerative disease of the joints. It is the most
common rheumatic disorder in older adults and results in degeneration of the protective cartilage
over time. This disease is characterized by chronic pain, stiffness and functional impairment. The
joints most commonly affected are those that are weight bearing; including the hips, knees and
spine. This disorder is asymmetrical and localized to a specific joint. Therefore, functional
impairment and quality of life are primary concerns. While there is no definitive cure for this ...

The ideal team includes: a physical therapist, dietitian, occupational therapist, rheumatologist,
personal trainer, nurse educator, and a social worker. A physical therapist would provide the patient
with range of motion exercises to improve muscle strength, recommend therapeutic modalities, as
well as recommend activities that will help decrease pressure on the affected joints. Because weight
loss is crucial to managing and preventing further progression, it is important to incorporate a
dietitian and personal trainer. Dietitians are beneficial for creating personalized meal plans and
suggesting nutritious foods that will help aid in weight reduction, while personal trainers create
exercise regimens that are specific to the patients disease process. In addition, an occupational
therapist will assist the patient in performing tasks without causing further pain or discomfort.
Education on joint protection techniques include; using proper body mechanics when lifting,
distributing pressure to other joints, and the importance of using orthotic devices. A rheumatologist
would also need to be included for their specialization in rheumatic disorders. Lastly, a nurse
educator and social worker would be beneficial. A nurse educator would help educate the patient on

The Influence Of Music In Ancient Greece
Have you ever noticed how similar today s society and the Ancient Greeks felt about drama? I
don t mean the, he said she said kind of drama, no. I mean music, and literature, and theatre. Most
people today, from all parts of the world, have a spectacular passion and love for drama, and it
wasn t too different a rough 2,500 years ago. In Ancient Greece, music was a very large and
important aspect in everyone s lives. According to the Heilbrunn Timeline of Art History webpage,
Music was essential to the pattern and texture of Greeek life. Music was so important that it was a
part of all kinds of different gatherings; played at marriages, funerals, and many different rituals.

Many believe that the god Hermes gifted people the lyre, and the goddesses Athena gifted the

who were called the Muses. Mark Cartwright said that, In Greek mythology the Muses personified
the various elements of music and were said to entertain the gods on Mt. Olympus with their divine
music, dancing, and singing. As loved as music was in that time, drama and literature were also a
huge part of their lives; especially poetry. One of the most famous poets of the time was a man
named Homer. Homer was the author of the incredible The Odyssey . Luke Mastin says,
...according to many, the whole western literary tradition began there, with the epic poems of
Homer. Mastin also says that, ...the greeks were also essentially responsible for the invention of
drama, and they produced master pieces of both tragedy and comedy. So you could say that Homer

The Importance Of Communication And Communication
In 2008, the World Health Organization estimated that as many as one in ten patients are harmed
while receiving care (Armellino, Griffin, Fitzpatrick 2010, p.796). This demonstrates the substantial
potential for improvement. Finkelman (2016) mentions that a code of silence exists because in the
past people are quick to blame the person who made the mistake, over looking all the steps in the
system that precipitated that error. This malignant silence disrupts a true and just safetyculture from
improving patient outcomes. The ideal safety culture in healthcare should focus on the big picture
of healthcare as a system by empowering staff to raise concerns. With these shared experiences, a
dialogue can be created among staff and management to develop plans that improvepatient safety.
Multiple studies correlate that harm and poor patient outcomes are a result of lacking patient safety
(DiCuccio, 2015). A successful patient safety culture requires responsibility of the team to increase
staff awareness focusing on education in topics of quality care and error reporting. Why the silence
exists is complex and the explanations may vary between units and between hospitals.
The Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) has developed a hospital survey on
patient safety culture. The hospital survey on patient safety (SOPS) is able to examine individual
hospitals and units to improve patient safety and patient outcomes by understanding the source of
underreported errors. SOPS

Analyzing A Worn Path by Eudora Welty In the story A Worn Path , Eudora Welty shows an old
woman living in a time period where racial prejudice is very high and out of control. Phoenix
Jackson is a grandmother whose motivation for living seems to be to nurture her grandson back to
health. The strength of love may make people do or say unusual and implausible things. The
central idea of this story is that love can empower someone to overcome many life threatening
obstacles. This idea is shown when an old woman conquers all odds against her to show her
everlasting love for her grandson. Throughout the story, Phoenix Jackson has to overcome many
types of obstacles that hinder her in her devotion to help her grandson. To begin... Show more

The grandson may be too young to realize what his grandmother is doing for his safety. The
empowerment of love in this situation enables Phoenix to put aside her fatigue and to continue
with her journey. This story made me believe that no matter what happens, Phoenix will hold her
principles to make her journey. To continue, the social obstacles that she faces on her journey are
perhaps the most difficult to overcome. One of these obstacles is that Phoenix Jackson lives a
life of poverty. She accepts charity, but knows that s what she must do to survive. She takes a
nickel from the man in the field and she also accepts money from the nurse at the clinic. Another
social obstacle is that she is illiterate. This makes it very difficult and embarrassing at the clinic
because she does not know how to read the prescription of the medicine. Instead she has to look
for a gold emblem of the doctor s office that helps her recognize the right medicine. The third
social hindrance is again her old age. People she encounters on her journey are very
condescending towards her and have no respect for her. The hunter in the field mocks her by
pointing a gun at her, while laughing at her. The nurse s attendant scorns her because she does not
feel comfortable talking in the office. All these social obstacles are as a result of her race.

My Road Trip
I have been on many road trips in my life. For as long as I can remember, summer vacation was
piling in the car and driving across the country, setting up camp wherever we went. I would
watch my mom in the weeks and months before it, carefully planning every step of the way,
even though it would often come unravelling halfway through. The best part of vacations are the
improvised parts, whether it s taking a day trip to Disney World, the tickets bought the day
before, driving down to San Francisco for no good reason, or watching a movie in a tiny movie
theater on a day that it rained. Planning is crucial, I learned, but you should never expect
anything to be set in stone. My theoretical road trip would be taken with my two sisters and last
ten days, and would be a mad dash west towards California, which has many wonderful National
Parks for us to camp in. The National Parksystem is a wonderfully western phenomenon, and
throughout the states west of the Appalachians, there is an amazing diversity of places to camp
and hike in. There will hopefully be no hotels on this trip, only tents. We will have two hundred
dollars put aside for grocery shopping, which we will use to buy food that we will cook with.
There will also be another three hundred set aside for eating out. There will also be four
hundred dollars for emergencies, whether that be a car breakdown or staying in a hotel. For our
ten day trip, we will have to pay for a campsite each night. The practical and wonderful thing
about camping is that the average campsite costs only ten dollars, so that will only cost us about
one hundred dollars. Hiking, our main activity on the trip, will cost us nothing as well. My
family also owns a pass that gets us into National Parks for free, so that will cost us nothing. The
car we will take is an Hyundai Elantra, which has been highly reliable in the past, and the
average cost of gas per mile is twelve cents. Lucy and I will switch driving, while Sadie will be in
charge of navigation, using atlases and Google Maps. The first day of the trip, we will leave
Kansas early in the morning and drive all the way to Rocky Mountain National Park in Colorado.
In the usual traffic, this trip will take approximately ten hours

The Cold War Between America And The Soviet Union
The Cold War
The Cold War occurred after the traumatic events of World War 2, that lasted almost 50 years,

What Is The Theme Of My Papa s Waltz
While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate
from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly
support the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz as a loving relationship between an
imperfect father and young son.
Roethke s word choice focuses on the mixed emotions he feels towards his father. Although the
combination of the words death and waltzing in the first stanza, the poet describes a serious but
amusing atmosphere around him and his father. The image of a waltz illustrates the requirement of
two individuals to show the closeness of the pair. At the same time, Roethke loves his father, but
he also expresses fear. The poet shows this fear through the use of words as battered and scraped. ...

Retrospective serologic studies indicated that proior to the SARS outbreak, there were no
antibodies in the human population (KSIAZEK ET AL 2003). This finding was vitally important
because it indicated that animal to human transmission is responsible for the SARS CoV entrance
into the human population. Two groups of researchers recently and independently demonstrated
that bats (genus Rhinolophus) are natural reservoirs of Sars like viruses, which provided very
strong evidence that SARS CoV was a zoonotic virus with wildlife orgin [6,7] The identification
of a natural reservoir is both difficult and essential. A natural reservoir is where the virus hides
between outbreaks, and is often difficult to identify because the organism does not display
symptoms of the disease. Early observation of patterns in SARS CoV transmission showed that
many of the first patients were had gone to or worked in China s exotic animal markets. Early

customers who previously relied on illegal options for their music needs. Digital piracy is the

creative altruism or in the darkness of destructive selfishness. Every day, people make choices.
They can chose to act in a way that benefits themselves or others, but each decision or action comes
with a consequence that affects everyone. Unfortunately, most of the time that individual will
decide to base their actions and decisions on what will benefit them, with no regard to how it will
affect other people. This type of selfishnessis widely seen in Flannery O Conner s short stories
including, The Life That You Save May Be Your Own and A Good Man is Hard To Find
. In each
short story the main characters are seen to be extremely selfish and tend... Show more content on

World War II (1939 1945). Many people thought that after finishing the war, hard times would

systems were developed with the aim to improve the Global Economy. Nowadays, the way to

Negative Discovery Of Frankenstein
The Frankenstein that Mary Shelley wrote about changed the perception of the story that was told
to me when I was growing up and saw on television. Throughout my childhood, Frankenstein was
depicted as a stiff, giant, clumsy monster with a hideous face, scarred green body and with plugs
protruding from his neck. Upon reading Frankenstein, I started to view him not as a monster but as
someone who was born into a tragic life full of hardships due to his appearance and not his
personality. The book begins with the story of a sailor named Robert Walton as he looks for a
new passage through the Arctic and relays the tale of his adventure in letters he writes to his sister.
Sailing one day, the crew discovers a man nearly frozen to death along... Show more content on

Once home Frankenstein realizes the creature he invented is the murderer and decides that he
needs to put an end to the monster. The Frankenstein s family house keeper, Justine, was accused
and convicted of killing William, and was put to death for her crime. Knowing that the monster
he created was responsible, Victor was consumed with guilt. The monster appeared to Victor
while he was grieving and demanded that he create a female version of himself so he would
have a companion. If Victor did not comply with his horrible creation, the monster threatened to
kill his family and friends. Victor reluctantly agreed to his ultimatum. His friend, Harvey,
unknowing of the plan accompanied him on his trip back to the university to gather his
equipment. Victor went to a sparsely inhabited island where he could work without being
disturbed. After replicating a female version of the monster, Victor ended up destroying it. The
monster witnessed this and became enraged and left. Upon returning the monster asked Victor if
he was going to fulfill his promise. Victor said he would not make another demon such as
himself. He told Victor he had been warned and there would be consequences. I will be with you
on your wedding night (pg. 123). As Victor was returning to the mainland, he discovered that his
friend Harvey had been murdered, and he knew the culprit had to be the monster. Being wrongfully

Vietnam After The Saigon Fall 1975
Vietnam After the Saigon Fall 1975
Overview
Many books, magazine articles, and papers have been written about the Vietnam war and its
consequences, but most are written from the perspective of an outsider looking in without actually
living in Vietnam after the fall of Saigon in 1975. Few reporters ever came back to Vietnamto live
there and describe day to day life in Vietnam after the war. Under the control of Communist rulers
and an embargo from the US, Vietnam was almost isolated from the western world between 1975
and the very late eighties (one can recognize a similar pattern in North Korea now). Western
reporters were not welcome or even permitted to enter Vietnam for reporting purposes without an
agreement from government ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The situation in Vietnam closely parallels that of the current situation in North Korea, and
demonstrates why it is very hard to find good published reliable sources about that country:
officially, none exist. The only reliable source of information about North Korea one can find is
from the experience of the people who have survived and escaped from North Korea; reports from
its government are simply propaganda.
Introduction
Vietnam lies along the eastern coast of the Indochina peninsula in an S shape. It is about 1,650
km long and is from 50 to 560 km wide. Its area is about 329,560 sq. km slightly larger than
Mexico (CIA World Factbook). It is bordered on the north by China and the west by Laos and
Cambodia. With a population of more than 81 million, Vietnam is one of the 15 most highly
populated countries in the world. It is also one of the poorest countries in Southeast Asia with many
problems like pollution, uneven population distribution, and a very fragile economic infrastructure.
History
According to archaeological discoveries, around the fourth millennium BC and during the Bronze
Age the first Vietnamese civilization, called Lac Viet (People of the Valley) was established in
northern Vietnam. Lac Viet reached its prime in the third century BC before it was conquered by
the Chinese ruling Han Dynasty in 207 BC (Booz 20). For the next thousand years Vietnam was

Dual Task Study
Driving while focused on other tasks may cause increased traffic mishaps and accidents.
Information processing of parallel processing systems suffers from bottlenecks, and may have
implications in information processing which may be the case with the use of cell phones causing
distractions while people are driving(Anderson, 2015). A bottleneck within central cognition stream
is a central bottleneck and may cause significant effects while trying to think about two things at
the same time (Anderson, 2015). As tasks are practiced they become more automatic, there seems
to need less processing in central cognition. According to a Strayer and Johnston s published study

Separation Between Classes In Pride And Prejudice And My...
Movie Text Analysis: Class Separation between classes has been evident ever since societies
have been begun. At some points in history, the differences in the classes were more noticeable
than other times. The movies, Pride and Prejudice and My Fair Lady, represent different classes,
and how they interact with each other. Even though the movies are set in different time periods,
the interactions between the classes are very similar. Although both movies show the differences
of the society classes, My Fair Lady shows the differences of the classes in a more obvious
manner than Pride and Prejudice which tends to show the differences in a more subdued manner.
In Joe Wright s 2005 Pride and Prejudice, the setting is around the beginning of the 1800 s in rural
England. The audience is introduced to the Bennett family that includes five unwed daughters.
Since the daughters have no inheritable rights, they must be married before their father dies. Their
rural town does not have many suitors in it, before the rich Mr. Bingley rents a large country
home with his sister, and a good friend, Mr. Darcy. Seeing an opportunity, Mrs. Bennett makes
sure Mr. Bingley is introduced to her daughters. Love kindles between Mr. Bingley and the oldest
daughter, Jane, but misconception and class separates them. The second eldest, Elizabeth, and Mr.
Darcy let pride and prejudice stray their views of each other. These relationships go through many
trials such as class, pride, and prejudice. The

Utilitarianism Sacrifice
Utilitarianism:
Should You Sacrifice Your Happiness? Would you be willing to sacrifice something that you really
care about for the greater good? Utilitarianism is the theory that we should do what is best for the
world as a whole, even if that means that there will be some unhappiness. It is the ethical theory that
I believe I base most of my moral judgments on, but as with anything, there are flaws to this theory.
Utilitarianism, defined as the theory that an action is right if it seeks to promote the greatest
amount of happiness in the world at large . This theory was started with the philosophies of Jeremy
Bentham (1748 1832) and John Stuart Mill (1806 1873). Utilitarianism gets its name from Bentham
s test question, What is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
One argument is that it is unpredictable. We cannot predict the future and most of the time, things
do not turn out the way that we thought they would. Therefore, we can t judge an action as being
right or wrong based on outcomes that come down to chance. Another argument is justice. Our
view of justice is that everyone should be treated fairly. Utilitarianism allows us to sacrifice
individuals for the greater good. Many people would see this as unfair. In an article I read online,
the author makes a very good point about how utilitarianism cannot protect the rights of minorities.
In his example he says, if the goal is the greatest good for the greatest number. Americans in the
eighteenth century could justify slavery on the basis that it provided a good consequence for a
majority of Americans. Certainly the majority benefited from cheap slave labor even though the
lives of black slaves were much worse. With an argument like that, it is hard to fully agree with the

Five Platonic Solids
The Five Platonic Solids The five platonic solids are the tetrahedron, cube, octahedron,
dodecahedron, and the icosahedron. They are named for the Greek philosopher Plato. Plato wrote
about them in The Timaeus (c.360 B.C.) in which he paired each of the four classical elements,
earth, air, water, and fire with a regular solid. Earth was paired with the cube, air with the
octahedron, water with the icosahedron, and fire with the tetrahedron. The fifth Platonic solid, the
dodecahedron, Plato says that, ...the god used for arranging the constellations on the whole heaven

element, but he had no interest in matching... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Some people credit Pythagoras with their discovery. Others say he may have been only familiar
with them and that the octahedron and icosahedron belong to Theaetetus. Theaetetus was the
first to give a mathematical description of all five and could have been responsible for the first
piece of proof that no other regular polyhedra are out there. A net is the shape that is made by
unfolding a 3D figure. A net is made up of all the faces of a figure. For a solid to be considered a
platonic it needs each face to be a regular polygon and each vertex must come together because if
only two came together the figure would collapse on itself. The sum of each interior angle of the
faces meeting at a vertex must be less than 360 degrees. A polyhedra solid must have all flat
faces, whilst a non polyhedra solid has a least one of its surfaces that is not flat. Regular means
all angles are of equal measure, all faces are congruent or equal in every way, and all edges are of
equal length. 3D means that shape has width, depth and height. A polygon is a closed shape in a
plane figure with at least five straight edges. A dual is a Platonic Solid that fits inside another
Platonic Solid and connects to the midpoint of each

Analysis Of The Book Why America Slept By Gerald Posner
Daniela Reynoso October 17, 2014 Capron Online CRJ 115 05In the book, Why America Slept:
The Failure to Prevent 9/11, by Gerald Posner he argues that the act of terrorism that occurred on
September 11, 2001 could have and should have been prevented. He presented a powerful case
of how stupidity and misdirected priorities made America an easy aim for terrorists. Gerald
Posner, the author of the book was a former Wall Street Lawyer, award winning investigative
journalist and bestselling author. Posner purposefully wrote this book to demonstrate all the
clues that were given out prior to the attack and inform us on previously undisclosed information
after a thorough 18 month investigation. Posner s goal was to discover what the CIA, FBI, and
others in the Government were doing behind the scenes for at least a decade leading up to 9/11.
The intended audience for this book is anyone who is willing to open their eyes on the true
occurrences that happened on 9/11. The title of the piece is related directly to the book and the
subject matter of it. America slept on all the clues that they received that there would be a terrorist
attack and the book demonstrated how exactly they failed to prevent the acts that occurred on 9
/11. Why America Slept is such a staggering book and Posner successfully demonstrates to the
audience how 9/11 could have been prevented through his use of examples and facts. In this
powerful and persuasive book, Gerald Posner reveals after an eighteen month

Technological Advancements Benefit Humanity
Technological Advancements Benefit Humanity Change in technology happens rapidly on a daily
basis. As Schlesinger expresses, The last two lifetimes have seen more scientific and technological
achievement that the first 798 put together (Schlesinger 41). Whether it deals with cars, travel,
medicine, media, or a host of other topics, advancements in technologyare occurring all around us.
It is up to us whether to accept these changes or not. Many believe that change in technology is a
hindrance, causing more problems than solutions. I believe technology has created a safer
environment, revolutionized the way we look at different ideas, and resolved many economic
problems in industries! In other words, change is inevitable and people... Show more content on

Some people say social media technology has caused a lack of social etiquette and personal
interaction. I have discovered that with great technology at our finger tips, it is teaching us how
to think outside the box, helping to reinforce intelligence. I have come to conclude that these
countless technological changes have helped us to evolve as a whole and to better our future.
These changes simplify the way we do many things in society and have also contributed to
making it a safer place to live. Change will happen, it is up to the people of the world to accept
and embrace it. What we have now will only become more advanced in the future.

Dylan Thomas Literary Analysis
Dylan Thomas Literary Works Analysis
And Death Shall Have No Dominion is a poem in three nine line stanzas. Each of the stanzas begins
and ends with the title line, which echoes Romans 6:9 from the King James translation of the
Christian New Testament: Death hath no more dominion. (Dylan Thomas, 30) When Saint Paul
said in his letter to the Romans that death hath no more dominion, he meant that those who had
chosen salvation would not suffer eternal damnation and spiritual death. Instead, they would be
resurrected on the Day of Judgment and given new spiritual bodies. The title and the refrain give
the theme of the poem which is resurrection and also introduce its characteristics, rhythm, and
solemn tone. Thomas makes it clear from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
When dead men reach the final stage of death, therefore, even though their bodies are gone, they
shall have stars at elbow and foot. The paradox of having elbows and feet and yet no body
reiterates the poem s theme of resurrection. More important than the body is the spirit or the life
force. Though lovers are lost, the poet says, love shall not. It is not people but people s spiritual
force that shall endure.
There is much religious sounding language in the first stanza, in which many are echoes of the
language of the King James Bible: naked they shall be one, stars at elbow and foot, and they shall
rise again. There is no Christianity here, however. God is never mentioned, there is no talk of
souls or of salvation, and the moment at which all shall or shall not happen is not specified as any
sort of Judgment Day. Whatever happens to people happens because that is the nature of things,
not because a supreme being such as God has ordained it.
In the second stanza, Thomas treats the pain of life and death. Even if the pain should be bad
enough for people s faith to snap in two, they will still not suffer a final death. It is nature, not
faith, which determines one s ultimate fate. Some may lose their faith as a result of the suffering
inherent in life. Perhaps like Thomas they might turn away from the traditional faith of their
childhood toward something else. Whatever they decide about God and the universe, their life
force will not die because it is

  • 5. Summary Of Hester Prynne In this chapter, a crowd of bearded men and women are standing outside of the door to what is probably the prison. The narrator, who is the man who found the documents in the custom house, discusses the vision of the perfect world the Puritans who settled there and how they ironically built a prison and a cemetery as the first buildings when they arrived in the new world. A beautiful rose bush stands, out of place, by the prison door. In this chapter, Hester Prynne, a young woman, emerges from a prison door while carrying a child. Prynne is to be condemned for committing adultery and for giving birth to an illegitimate child. As she makes her way to the platform, the women in the crowd makes criticizing comments about the elaborate letter A stitched onto her chest. Prynne then remembers her earlier life about her childhood and questions if her current situation is real. In this chapter, Hester Prynne is on a scaffold and spots someone she recognizes in the crowd. The man, who she recognizes, learns about Hester s crime (adultery) from a townsman. Hester is then called to attention by John Wilson and is asked by Mr. Dimmesdale to name the father of her child. Despite his pleads, she refuses to name the man and is led back to prison. In this chapter, Hester meets her husband in the prison when he was called to provide medical service. Hester at first refuses to drink the medicine he provided thinking its poison, but eventually drinks it when he said that he would not seek ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Descriptive Essay About A Descriptive Paper Descriptive Paper I pulled up beside the gym of Evangelical Free Church, my church, at six o clock, Wednesday, October 18, 2017, just in time for band practice. A man named Keith had invited me to join With my electric guitar, my reverb effect pedal, and my amp in tow, I walked up to a door on the side of the gym and I knocked, yielding no response, to my dismay. In a search for the band, I made a round trip, checking the church s office and the sanctuary, but they were nowhere to be found. Was practice cancelled? Confused, I call Keith, the leader, and when he finally answered, I asked, Is band practice still going on tonight? Yeah, I m just running late, he replied nonchalantly, I ll be down there in twenty minutes. So I sat in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... After turning the alarm off, Keith held open the door to the left that led to the wide open gym and then the four of us made our way to the youth room, again to our left. The camp style lights came on, revealing that the youth room was a disarray of chairs, sports supplies, and, on the stage , various cords and other audio equipment. Beside the stage was the door I had knocked. The room smelled faintly like new carpet; it clearly had been renovated recently. The white walls were decorated with strange pattern of navy blue, lime green, and golden yellow paint streaks, but the mixture of colors gave the room a welcoming vibe, very pleasant for my first practice. Then, Karli got out her half size keyboard and Keith his laptop, his even smaller keyboard, and what appeared to be a drum synthesizer. Meanwhile, Jenna hooked up the vocal system up to the audio mixer beside Keith. While they set up their equipment, I set down my equipment beside a dusty, full sized keyboard. In a search for an outlet to plug my amp into, my eyes darted around the room for a few moments, which thankfully led Keith to reveal a compartment in the floor that housed a set of outlets. When the band s instruments were ready, Karli, Keith and Jenna made sure they all had the same sheet music, some of which I was sure I lacked, but they did not ask me right away. Instead, Karli and Jenna distracted from the task by telling ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Myth Of The Melting Pot Elina Manukyan Professor Lianna Manukyan ESL 101 Essay 3: The Myth of the Melting Pot 13 November 2015 The Myth of the Melting Pot It is popularly believed that America is the biggest and most famous melting pot in the world. American history began with waves of immigrants bringing their own traditions, and culture to a new country. America is not the only country that is known as a melting pot, other countries like Russia are also practicing the melting pot; however, America is the only place that has such a diverse population and manages to make it work. Social media around the world, especially public relations of the American government has been working hard for years to make a uniform state that works equally for everybody, without taking in to consideration who they are or where they came from. However, since the beginning of that theory, we have seen a lot of prejudice between social, religious, and national aspects around the world. Let s us consider whether or not the melting pot truly works in both countries or if it is just a myth? First of all, let us try to understand what it means to be prejudice. The dictionary defines prejudice as unreasonable feelings, opinions, or attitudes, especially of a hostile nature, regarding an ethnic, racial, social, or religious group. According to the article Causes of prejudice by Vincent N. Parrillo prejudicial attitudes combine negatively and positively in society. Additionally, he considers prejudice not only a ... The idea of a vehicle driving itself has been of great interest to companies and manufacturers all over the world are using technology to build and test such vehicles. Governments around the world are on board with this venture and they are reviewing the Highway Code, legal frameworks and legislative changes to accommodate the development of driverless vehicles (Department of transport, 2015). However, it may seem that not everyone is comfortable with the idea of autonomous vehicles. The moral ramifications associated with driverless cars seem to be one reason why people are... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... That it is the responsibility of humans, just as it is with manual vehicles to maintain a good level of concentration at times of driving the vehicle. This may be true but it could be argued that it is easier to concentrate when a human is actually driving. That a passenger may not be as attentive to the road and its surroundings as much as a driver is. If the driver is going to act like the passenger in a driverless vehicle then the concern would be that is it possible to be that attentive when not actually driving? It is suggested that manufactures of driverless vehicles monitor the performance of test drivers and see if their levels of concentration are good and if they represent any risks (Department for transport, 2015). However, many questions arise about how these tests will take place, how will humans be monitored on their concentration abilities. What will happen in the case of failing such tests? Saussure s System For Evaluating Linguistics Essay In Course in General Linguistics , Saussure does two things to develop his system for evaluating linguistics: he chooses language as his linguistic object and he only incorporates factors into his model that can be said to be true of all languages over all time. The net result is a very high level and flexible classification structure, which is more intent on making a developmental framework for evaluating linguisticsthan necessarily providing tremendous insight into it s more concrete aspects: rudiments like structure, meaning, morphology, syntax, or phonology. Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... But I feel he still needed to explicitly say it: that despite all the differences between languages, I have identified these invariants to be true over all time, and I believe this is because of certain specific commonalities between all humans, particularly the human desire to create and maintain an effective and convenient system for communicating ideas with one another. Levi Strauss additional step provides a sense of completeness to the process; that is to say that the last step provides the why and what while Saussure s method provides the how . Incorporating the Levi Strauss step gives us a new line of thought to ponder: engineering and design. Going through the steps: Structural Anthropology first hypothesizes that myths exist to provide people with anecdotes to help explain the unanswerable questions of their society such as life versus death or love, etc. Then Levi Strauss applies Saussure s method, designating a mythological object, in this case the myth itself, and then determining a set of invariants true to all myths. The most interesting of these invariants is the use of categories to deconstruct the events of a story into specific event types, which are common across all myths. And finally, Levi Strauss uses his myth decomposition to draw conclusions about the myth s moral and, by extension, the society that uses this myth. This ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

The Importance Of Communication And Communication In 2008, the World Health Organization estimated that as many as one in ten patients are harmed while receiving care (Armellino, Griffin, Fitzpatrick 2010, p.796). This demonstrates the substantial potential for improvement. Finkelman (2016) mentions that a code of silence exists because in the past people are quick to blame the person who made the mistake, over looking all the steps in the system that precipitated that error. This malignant silence disrupts a true and just safetyculture from improving patient outcomes. The ideal safety culture in healthcare should focus on the big picture of healthcare as a system by empowering staff to raise concerns. With these shared experiences, a dialogue can be created among staff and management to develop plans that improvepatient safety. Multiple studies correlate that harm and poor patient outcomes are a result of lacking patient safety (DiCuccio, 2015). A successful patient safety culture requires responsibility of the team to increase staff awareness focusing on education in topics of quality care and error reporting. Why the silence exists is complex and the explanations may vary between units and between hospitals. I would watch my mom in the weeks and months before it, carefully planning every step of the way, even though it would often come unravelling halfway through. The best part of vacations are the improvised parts, whether it s taking a day trip to Disney World, the tickets bought the day before, driving down to San Francisco for no good reason, or watching a movie in a tiny movie theater on a day that it rained. Planning is crucial, I learned, but you should never expect anything to be set in stone. My theoretical road trip would be taken with my two sisters and last ten days, and would be a mad dash west towards California, which has many wonderful National Parks for us to camp in. The National Parksystem is a wonderfully western phenomenon, and throughout the states west of the Appalachians, there is an amazing diversity of places to camp and hike in. There will hopefully be no hotels on this trip, only tents. We will have two hundred dollars put aside for grocery shopping, which we will use to buy food that we will cook with. There will also be another three hundred set aside for eating out. There will also be four hundred dollars for emergencies, whether that be a car breakdown or staying in a hotel. For our ten day trip, we will have to pay for a campsite each night. The practical and wonderful thing about camping is that the average campsite costs only ten dollars, so that will only cost us about one hundred dollars. Hiking, our main activity on the trip, will cost us nothing as well. My family also owns a pass that gets us into National Parks for free, so that will cost us nothing. The car we will take is an Hyundai Elantra, which has been highly reliable in the past, and the average cost of gas per mile is twelve cents. Lucy and I will switch driving, while Sadie will be in charge of navigation, using atlases and Google Maps. What Is The Theme Of My Papa s Waltz While the subject of My Papa s Waltz by Theodore Roethke has spurred passionate academic debate from professors, scholars, and students alike, the imagery, syntax, and diction of the poem clearly support the interpretation that Roethke writes My Papa s Waltz as a loving relationship between an imperfect father and young son. Roethke s word choice focuses on the mixed emotions he feels towards his father. Although the combination of the words death and waltzing in the first stanza, the poet describes a serious but amusing atmosphere around him and his father. Even though the movies are set in different time periods, the interactions between the classes are very similar. • 47. Five Platonic Solids The Five Platonic Solids The five platonic solids are the tetrahedron, cube, octahedron, dodecahedron, and the icosahedron. They are named for the Greek philosopher Plato. Plato wrote about them in The Timaeus (c.360 B.C.) in which he paired each of the four classical elements, earth, air, water, and fire with a regular solid. Earth was paired with the cube, air with the octahedron, water with the icosahedron, and fire with the tetrahedron. The fifth Platonic solid, the dodecahedron, Plato says that, ...the god used for arranging the constellations on the whole heaven . Aristotle later added a fifth element, the ether and postulated that the heavens were made of this element, but he had no interest in matching... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people credit Pythagoras with their discovery. Others say he may have been only familiar with them and that the octahedron and icosahedron belong to Theaetetus. Theaetetus was the first to give a mathematical description of all five and could have been responsible for the first piece of proof that no other regular polyhedra are out there. A net is the shape that is made by unfolding a 3D figure. A net is made up of all the faces of a figure. For a solid to be considered a platonic it needs each face to be a regular polygon and each vertex must come together because if only two came together the figure would collapse on itself. The sum of each interior angle of the faces meeting at a vertex must be less than 360 degrees. A polyhedra solid must have all flat faces, whilst a non polyhedra solid has a least one of its surfaces that is not flat. Regular means all angles are of equal measure, all faces are congruent or equal in every way, and all edges are of equal length. 3D means that shape has width, depth and height. A polygon is a closed shape in a plane figure with at least five straight edges. A dual is a Platonic Solid that fits inside another Platonic Solid and connects to the midpoint of each ... Analysis Of The Book Why America Slept By Gerald Posner Daniela Reynoso October 17, 2014 Capron Online CRJ 115 05In the book, Why America Slept: The Failure to Prevent 9/11, by Gerald Posner he argues that the act of terrorism that occurred on September 11, 2001 could have and should have been prevented. He presented a powerful case of how stupidity and misdirected priorities made America an easy aim for terrorists. Gerald Posner, the author of the book was a former Wall Street Lawyer, award winning investigative journalist and bestselling author. Posner purposefully wrote this book to demonstrate all the clues that were given out prior to the attack and inform us on previously undisclosed information after a thorough 18 month investigation. Posner s goal was to discover what the CIA, FBI, and others in the Government were doing behind the scenes for at least a decade leading up to 9/11. The intended audience for this book is anyone who is willing to open their eyes on the true occurrences that happened on 9/11. The title of the piece is related directly to the book and the subject matter of it. America slept on all the clues that they received that there would be a terrorist attack and the book demonstrated how exactly they failed to prevent the acts that occurred on 9 /11. Why America Slept is such a staggering book and Posner successfully demonstrates to the audience how 9/11 could have been prevented through his use of examples and facts. In this powerful and persuasive book, Gerald Posner reveals after an eighteen month ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

As Schlesinger expresses, The last two lifetimes have seen more scientific and technological achievement that the first 798 put together (Schlesinger 41). Whether it deals with cars, travel, medicine, media, or a host of other topics, advancements in technologyare occurring all around us. It is up to us whether to accept these changes or not. Many believe that change in technology is a hindrance, causing more problems than solutions. I believe technology has created a safer environment, revolutionized the way we look at different ideas, and resolved many economic problems in industries! In other words, change is inevitable and people... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Some people say social media technology has caused a lack of social etiquette and personal interaction. I have discovered that with great technology at our finger tips, it is teaching us how to think outside the box, helping to reinforce intelligence. I have come to conclude that these countless technological changes have helped us to evolve as a whole and to better our future. These changes simplify the way we do many things in society and have also contributed to making it a safer place to live. Change will happen, it is up to the people of the world to accept and embrace it. What we have now will only become more advanced in the future. My Passion In Medicine And Bachelor Of Medicine ursued my Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery from Rajah Muthiah Medical College affiliated to Annamalai University, rated as the top grade of A from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) My passion for medicine sprouted from here where I witnessed all the fathomless tragedy of diseases, countless hours of emergencies and life saving efforts, elation at recovery and desolation at the loss of life. During the second year of medical schoolthe changeover from a classroom atmosphere to the clinical wards and outpatient clinics changed my impression towards my profession. I began to understand the need to practice in medicinenot just theories from books will do. Every case I came across from simple pyrexia, COPD exacerbations, renal failure to cerebrovascular accidents were paying me learning experiences. • 51. Dylan Thomas Literary Analysis Dylan Thomas Literary Works Analysis And Death Shall Have No Dominion is a poem in three nine line stanzas. Each of the stanzas begins and ends with the title line, which echoes Romans 6:9 from the King James translation of the Christian New Testament: Death hath no more dominion. (Dylan Thomas, 30) When Saint Paul said in his letter to the Romans that death hath no more dominion, he meant that those who had chosen salvation would not suffer eternal damnation and spiritual death. Instead, they would be resurrected on the Day of Judgment and given new spiritual bodies. The title and the refrain give the theme of the poem which is resurrection and also introduce its characteristics, rhythm, and solemn tone. Thomas makes it clear from ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... When dead men reach the final stage of death, therefore, even though their bodies are gone, they shall have stars at elbow and foot. The paradox of having elbows and feet and yet no body reiterates the poem s theme of resurrection. More important than the body is the spirit or the life force. Though lovers are lost, the poet says, love shall not. It is not people but people s spiritual force that shall endure. There is much religious sounding language in the first stanza, in which many are echoes of the language of the King James Bible: naked they shall be one, stars at elbow and foot, and they shall rise again. There is no Christianity here, however. God is never mentioned, there is no talk of souls or of salvation, and the moment at which all shall or shall not happen is not specified as any sort of Judgment Day. Whatever happens to people happens because that is the nature of things, not because a supreme being such as God has ordained it. In the second stanza, Thomas treats the pain of life and death. Even if the pain should be bad enough for people s faith to snap in two, they will still not suffer a final death. It is nature, not faith, which determines one s ultimate fate. Some may lose their faith as a result of the suffering inherent in life. Perhaps like Thomas they might turn away from the traditional faith of their childhood toward something else. Whatever they decide about God and the universe, their life force will not die because it is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
