Waters found that white middle class Americans, who are descendants of early
European immigrants, have achieved normative racial status and symbolic ethnicity
through economic mobility and intermarriage. Contemporary multi racial identity
also emerged as a result of intermarriage across racial lines. However, unlike the multi
ethnic whites, contemporary multi racial individuals do not claim symbolic ethnic or
racial identity but are struggling to establish their racial identity as a tangible concept.

Josiah, age 8. Josiah is part of the after school program, in room 1. The observation

By this definition, if a certain form of life constitutes something as a miracle it is a
miracle to them; Wittgenstein states that if everyone from a religious group or
form of life have the same language game then that speak is meaningful to them,

Recently, I have written a set of instruction draft for manually testing the blood
pressure of any adult individual and submitted it to you and the Legal department.
After reviewing my report, there were some potential issues noted in my report.
Therefore, I was asked by you and Legal department to conduct a usability test to
identify any places where my instruction could be improved. I have completed my
memo report and include my findings and recommendation which eventually helps us

four adult volunteers and asked them to use the blood pressure manually according to

In the Film Whale Riders, the director Niki Caro, does an excellent job in developing
critical themes combining spiritual and religious traditions resonating with the
audience. The compelling themes demonstrated in the movie such as leadership,
change of role in women, connection to nature, traditions and change are all
eloquently presented as the plot unfolds. As a young woman myself, I can feel
empathy towards the main protagonist, Pai, as she puts maximum effort in
convincing her grandfather Koro, that she can be the families next whale rider.
As the movie begins, the tone of Pai s monologue where she describes how her
family awaits the birth of the first born boy who would become chief, moderately
sets the the mood for the rest of the film. Pai, states that there was no gladness was
she was born; this is because both her mother and brother [ who was suppose to be
the next leader] died. The theme of leadership is presented as Koro searches for a new
Maori leader. As Pai s dad, Porourangi, denies leadership due to the death of his wife,
Koro searches for leadership elsewhere; overlooking Pai s ability to do so because of
her sex. Pai displays leadership in wanting to aid her community in being the next
whale rider by attempting to attend her grandfather schooling and learning Mau raku
(stick fighting) from her uncle whom she privately learns from.
