Building Relationships With Professors And Faculty Members
A world class engineer, the one that I am striving to become utilizes all their resources to further
their education and establish more connections. They seek to build relationships with professors
as well as other students so that they can gain the most out of everything available. I currently
am using most of my resources available at Liberty University, like the tutoring services and
going to my professors for help. These things so far have helped me to maintain grades that I am
proud to have earned. They have also helped me to establish connections with the people that I
interact with, connections that allow me to gain the most from them. In academics, I see that I
am not where I should be for interacting with professors and faculty members. A master student
utilizes their teachers regularly even when they do not necessarily need help but more to
establish a relationship that could assist them to get internships. I am a work in progress with
going to my professors it is mainly when I have an issue that I seek their help. I need to take steps
to reach out and show my enthusiasm for the subjects taught. In doing so, I will foster better
connections with my professors. They are overflowing with knowledge, experience, ideas that
could help me to be the worldclass engineer that is a leader after Christ to his community.

In The Eyes Of The Beholder. Coming Of Age In The United
In the Eyes of the Beholder
Coming of age in the United States has its privileges, you can vote, drink and buy spray paint. That
s right, spray paint. Many states, including Texas and Florida prohibit selling spray paint to minors.
That means that, without an adult, under age graffiti artists cannot purchase the medium needed for
their creative work. Unlike other styles of art, graffiti denotes passionate emotional controversy.
Ask anyone to describe graffiti and you are likely to hear anything from vandalized walls full of
writings to beautiful commissioned murals. This paper will explore this intriguing creative
expression, why it has such a negative stigma, and how or if it has evolved over the years.

To the little artist both were deliberate, but to the audience the wall print was unwelcomed and a
nuisance to be cleaned up.
To some, Picasso s WOMAN WITH FISH HAT painting may look like a beginner s attempt, but
to an expert it has immensely inventive intensity (Hans 154). To the untrained eye, Jackson
Pollack s art looks like haphazard splatters of paint. In the crime thriller CONTRABAND a
seemingly tarp full of paint was discarded by thieves, later the canvas was revealed to be a
Pollack original worth millions. Amateurs consider many famous artworks as junk but
connoisseur valuable them as treasures. Who is right? If Pollack had painted his famous, No 5,
on a city wall would it still be valued at $140 million or would it be considered worthless graffiti by
youth vandals.
America graffiti acquired its bad rap from the hippie era. Protesters of the Vietnam War and other
political and worldviews began to appear on college campus and city walls. Gangs emerged from
an increase of immigrants and their need to integrate. Many youths in large cities such as Los
Angeles and New York City joined gangs to help them gain a group identity, defend themselves
against other groups, and establish a unified presence. (Doak 16). Gangs identify themselves in
many ways; their clothing, colors, even their language and slang terms helps differentiate
themselves from other gangs. Another common identifier is to mark their

Geoffrey Chaucer Thesis Statement
Thesis Statement: Geoffrey Chaucer was one of the most influential writers of the
Medieval times.
Geoffrey was born in the early 1340 s and he died in 1400.
Geoffrey Chaucer was born later than 1340, but probably earlier than 1345. There aren t any
records on his actual date of birth (Theodore 1). Geoffrey Chaucer s family name was deprived
from the French Chaussier which implies that his family were shoemakers at one time. His father
and grandfather were wine merchants, so they were both successful and rising men (Theodore 7).
Chaucer died in 1400 on October 25th. He passed away of unknown causes in London, England.

Philippa had worked for Constance of Castile, John of Gaunt s second wife (Encyclopedia.com).
Chaucer and Philippa are usually credited with two sons and perhaps a daughter, Elizabeth
Chacy (Morrison 12). Chaucer received a yearly salary of ten pounds. Ten pounds was about the
normal income for a squire in an aristocratic or distinguished household. The city of London
granted them a home above Aldgate when he became Controller of Customs
(Notablebiographies.com). Some wardships in 1375 brought Chaucer a little over 175 pounds.
He and Phillipa were financially secure (Encyclopedia.com). None of Chaucer s poetry is
addressed to Philippa, so it is assumed that they had an arranged marriage. Almost none of
Chaucer s work was complimentary towards marriage (Historylearningsite.co.uk). When Philippa
passed away in 1387 Chaucer stopped sharing her earnings. Chaucer suffered from financial
hardship and he would have to keep working in public service to earn a living. He stayed in his
work to help pay off his growing collection of

Two Tragic Events In American History
In American history two tragic events have become iconic in American society. These events are
the attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and the attacks against America on September 11, 2001. On
December 7, 1941, the American naval base Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese empire.
On 9/11 the World Trade Center was attacked by Islamic men. These men hijacked two planes and
crashed the planes into the World Trade Centerin New York. A third plane was hijacked and
crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC. A fourth plane crashed into a field southeast of
Pittsburgh due to resistance from the passengers and crew. The American presidents Franklin D.
Roosevelt and George W. Bush gave speeches. The speeches were designed to inform and to
reassure the American people. Franklin D. Roosevelt, the president at the time of the Pearl Harbor
attack, gave a speech to Congress which was recorded so the American people knew what had
occurred. George W. Bush, the American president during the September, 11th 2001, event,

Prior to Americas entry into World War II, the U.S had frozen Japanese assets in America on
July 26, 1941, and August 1, 1941, and then placed an embargo on the export of oil to Japan.
These actions were done in response to Japanese actions in French Indo China. The Japanese had
invaded Indo China and had driven the French from their colony. These dealings resulted in
Japanese and American negotiations concerning the trade exchange for Japan to stop its
militaristic advances. Eventually these negotiations stalemated and Japan decided something
needed to be done. So a military action was decided upon by the Japanese. Admiral Yamato had
been planning a attack on the American base at Pearl Harbor located on the island of Oahu in
Hawaii. The plan was to attack the American Pacific fleet and give the Japanese a advantage over

General Motors Oligopoly Essay
The average level of profit per annum is approximately $5.02 billion USD. As shown by the table
above, the average revenue, $39 256.20, is significantly greater than the average total costs,34
289.20. Although we cannot ascertain what the level of normal profit for General Motors truly is,
considering the revenue earned is approximately $5 billion greater than the total costs, General
Motors is clearly charging significantly more for vehicles than just the price that covers costs.
Thus there is a presence of abnormal profits proving that the firm is operating in an oligopolistic
market. Additionally, the firm s ability to charge a significantly greater price for each unit sold,
shows its price making behavior in the industry. Often firms will drive down prices to intentionally
ensure new entrants in the market cannot sustain this loss of revenue. However the fact that there
has not been any significant price reductions in the past years of operation proves that the threat of
competition is not enough to force prices down towards normal profit levels and there are thus high
barriers to entry.
3. Non Price Competition
As previously discussed, prices in the automotive industry tend to stick at their current set price
and only increase or decrease within a small range. Since firms in an oligopoly do not compete by
adjusting the price of their products, they compete using non price related methods.
To begin, one way in which General Motors broadens its consumer base is

it was very interesting to be able to have to opportunity to watch the movie Excalibur. By watching
the movie after you study about King Arthur it allows you to make connections and further your
knowledge about the story. In the movie, Excalibur, there I had three favorite scenes that I
thoroughly enjoyed. To begin, in the movie, Excalibur, I enjoyed the scene where Arthur pulls the
sword out of the stone. When Arthur s father is fighting for his last breath after his final fight he
decides that no one should be crowned king unless they are able to pull excalibur (his sword) out of
the stone he thrusts it into. In the scene that is my favorite,

The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Essay
The e Deepwater Horizon oil spill at the Macondo well began on April 20, 2010, in the Gulf of
Mexico on the BP operated Macondo Prospect. An explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling
rig on 20 April 2010 killed 11 people and caused almost 5 million barrels of oil to flow into the
Gulf of Mexico. The spill covered 68,000 square miles of land and sea and triggered a response
effort involving the use of nearly 2 million gallons of dispersant chemicals (Pallardy). Considered
the largest accidental marine oil spill in history, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill (DHOS) resulted
in widespread environmental and economic damage, the exact nature of which is only beginning to
be understood (Shultz 59). This paper will address the causes of this unmitigated ecological
disaster and discuss steps that need to be taken to prevent a similar disaster from occurring again.
There were a number of causes for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, most of which had more to do
with the human element that with any technology itself. The four biggest ways that humans
contributed to the disaster, as explained by journalist David Coburn, was the fact that British
Petroleum s (BP) past success built a sense of complacency, the shifting the burden of proof, the
normalization of deviance and the fact that promoters for an industry also serve as that industry s
regulatory enforcers. One might ask themselves how being continuously successful can make a
person or agency more likely to suffer a disaster. If they

The History Of The Library Profession
John Ambrosio (2013), reflecting on the history of the library profession, invokes Antonio
Gramsci, who said that a critical understanding of the self also requires the development of an
ethical stance, a set of values, principles, and virtues to guide one s moral conduct (Ambrosio,
2013, p. 328). Lacking such ethics or praxis, librarians are vulnerable to the dominant political
ideology. The way to overcome paralysis is the consciousness of what one really is and knowing
oneself. It begins with taking an inventory of our historical formation with determining how we
have been secretly imprinted by history; how our language, thoughts and identities have been
informed by various currents of philosophical thought and cultural practices (Gramsci in Ambrosio,
2013, p. 328). By examining the history of the library profession a history that conflates neutrality
with equality and democracy, staffed by a cadre of professionals who trace their beginnings to a
theory of library economy it is easy to imagine how neoliberal ideology found a home in the library.
Many theorists recognize the fact that librarians have the potential to make progressive reforms to
society (Raber, 2003, p. 47), if they would only break free of the contradictory theoretical
consciousness and hegemonic norms that hold them back from doing so by suggesting that they
should take no action (Bales Engle, 2012, p. 22). Louis Althusser (2009), in particular felt that
librarians had a social and moral

The Testament Of The Bible Essay
Like many individuals in today s world, not many of us actually know of the true accounts
conveyed to us by means of the Bible. Being able to decipher the Bible, in its own way is a task
in itself. Growing up as a young child, I had attended church with my grandfather, but back then I
was not really exposed to the Bible, as I have been exposed to it by taking this course. The purpose
of this assignment, is to research Mosesand the Passover in Exodus 10 15 of the Old Testamentin the
Hebrew Bible. By using various resources such as commentaries, dictionaries, and the Bible itself
has helped me grasp a better knowledge of Moses and the role that he played within the Bible, as
well as the story of Passover. I always knew that Moses was considered to be an important figure
within the Bible. But, I never knew exactly how significant he truly remained. Since enrolling in
this religion course, I have learned background information, that I never knew previously. The text
studied within this course was a brief introduction to the Old Testament discussing the Hebrew
Bible in its context. The Old Testament integrates the scared writings of the Jewish belief, that are
all inscribed at different periods of time from anywhere around 1200 to 165 BC. The Old Testament
positions the foundations for the education and proceedings that transpire in the New Testament. I
find it absolutely necessary to study the Old Testament in order to gain the concept of events,

Analysis of PlatoВґs Republic
Republic, perhaps Plato s most famous work focusing on justice and its values, is also home to
Socrates unique ideas and the challenges that he faces throughout his dialogues with other
philosophers. Nevertheless, justice is not the only topic that Plato examines in his work. In the
Republic, a simple discussion of the justice and the different characteristics of cities, escalates into
a discussion about the souls of individuals. Socrates starts out by offering an agreement to the fact
that since cities are made of individuals, their characteristics can also be found in individuals. From
his writings, Platoexemplifies most of Socrates arguments towards the development of his own
arguments. One very famous theory developed by Plato from... Show more content on

Though Socrates attempts to define the three parts of the soul in detail, he is faced with some
challenges. Socrates seems unsatisfied with his discovery, as he questions himself whether
these parts work individually, or together, each controlling an appropriate portion of the soul. In
order to find an appropriate explanation to his question, Socrates brings an example of a soul
desiring a drink, and a soul that is desires to get a drink. He claims that although driven by the
same desire of thirst, these are different. However, the souls can never desire completely
opposite things at the same exact time. For example, if one part of the soul wants a drink, and
the other part desires to get a drink, the third part cannot forbid itself from taking a drink. Aside
from defining the different parts of the soul, Socrates also needs to prove that the souls can be
viewed as having virtues, just like the cities. The city originated by Socrates in the theory is a

Bourdieu Social Class
Throughout history consumption has sought to produce social class within western societies. The
existence of consumption patterns is prominent to individuals within society. Consumption patterns
arise in order to distinguish class differences, a way of segregating the upper, middle and lower
classes of society from one another. Primarily, this essay will focus on consumption patters
reflecting status distinctions of classes, this essay will not demonstrate a solution to the problem of
status distinctions, rather, how these distinctions come about, providing a theoretical basis in
establishing this question. Analysing the relationship between social status and consumption

businesses in chemicals. Welch was known as a maverick from the beginning. Working away
from headquarters, and in a section of the company outside the traditional electric businesses, he
was unhappy because of the low raise he was given, and he felt that GE had a strict bureaucracy.
He would have left the company had it not been for Reuben Gutoff ( Thought Leader ). In 1968,
Welch was appointed General Manager of the worldwide Plastics Division and became a vice

As technology continues to advance everyday, verbal conversation is becoming less common.
Even though texting is becoming more common, it is making understanding ones tone and view
on a conversation difficult to understand. People aren t necessarily able to express emotion over
text, regardless of punctuation. One still isn t able to determine if a person could be joking,
serious, sarcastic, or lying because sending a text isn t the same as speaking to a person face to

significant other that texts me as well as all my other friends who I don t see all the time. Not only
that but social media as well which makes being able to concentrate in class difficult and being
able to focus during work is just as difficult. Texting has made a big impact on conversational
aspects in multiple different ways most outweighing the positives.
The effects of texting on intrapersonal relationships I found were majority negative. Basically
today texting has become the main form for contacting people that aren t close to you. Many
individuals use texting to express their feelings, keep in touch with friends, and avoid
communication orally. Even though texting is convenient, simple, and simple it is causing a
severe negative effect on face to face conversations. It has come to the point where texting is
actually replacing face to face communication where people are even too scared to meet a person

David And The Telepaths In The Chrysalids By John Wyndham
In the novel, The Chrysalids by John Wyndham, two groups: David and the telepaths and the
Waknuk people share many similarities and differences as to how their groups should be
controlled. But, what divides both groups the most is the aspect that David and the telepaths are
willing to accept change while the Waknuk people chooses to refuse. In the beginning of the
novel, both groups had the same beliefs and views of God. This is because most of David s
group members are from Waknuk. Therefore, they were taught to believe in what they thought
was right. They believed in the image of God. That only God makes perfection. If one is not
within the image of God, it is an imitation, and in the imitation there always seems to be a
mistake. They believe that deviations cannot really be human. In addition, they believe that God
is sane and right, and without Him the Waknuk society would be lost and confused. We ve got to
believe God is sane, Davie boy. We d be lost indeed if we didn t do that. (Wyndham,78).
Although, throughout the novel David learns to realize that nobody knows what the true image of
God is. He then tries to convince the other telepaths that whatever they were taught about the true
image of God is not true. David s group chooses to believe that deviations aren t evil or disgusting
because their group also has a deviation, but it is not visible to the eye. I tried to explain that a

The Increasing Threat from Mercury in Our Aquatic Environment
Mercury contamination in aquatic environments is becoming an increasing threat to both wildlife
and humans (Peterson S. A., 2007). Organisms in the aquatic environment, particularly fish,
bioaccumulate methylmercury from contaminated water and food, but predominately from food
(Peterson S. A., 2007). Mercury in the atmosphereexists in three inorganic forms: gaseous elemental
mercury (GEM: Hg0), oxidized mercury typically called reactive gaseous mercury (RGM: Hg2+),
and particulate mercury (Hgp) (Hyun Deok Choi, 2008). Once emitted, mercury can be transformed
from one species to another via photoreduction, reactions with halides, and other oxidation
/reduction reactions (Hyun Deok Choi, 2008). Methylmercuryis the bioavailable form of mercury,
with well documented adverse effects (Rimmer, 2010). Methylated mercury is known to cause
adverse effects to wildlife and aquatic organisms. Methylmercury can have neurotoxic,
immunotoxic, and developmental effects on fish, birds, and mammals; top consumers may be at
elevated risk (Weir, 2010). Methylmercury is synthesized from inorganic mercury (Hg II) by
aquatic bacteria at oxic/anoxic boundaries such as sedimentwater interface of lakes and rivers
(Hurley JP, 1995). The degree to which an aquatic system is impacted by methylmercury
contamination is a function of a number of factors, including the rate of supply of atmospherically
derived Hg (II), the net rate of mercury methylation by aquatic, the efficiency of transport and

Connotation Of 12 Angry Men
When analyzing the film, 12 Angry Men, one will notice the reasoning is not consumed by the
story, but by the characters and their involvement and interaction. In a brief summary of the film, it
contains twelve jurors who are all participating in a trial. The trial is concerning a young
adolescent who is being appointed for the death of his father. Credit the power of this lucid study to
the fact that the attributes, failings, passions and prejudices of these tales men is as striking and
important as the awesome truth that they hold a boy s life in their hands (Weiler). Through out the
story, $#$#3$#$# s personalities and qualities are shown, each having their own opinion of the plea

characterization of the jurors. Along with their individual personas, all of the juryman fall under the
category of either being Socratic or a sophist in Aristocratic terms. When looking at the arguments
among the jurors one can see the different logical styles utilized, and which were effect versus the
not effective approaches. Progressively through the movie, the argument grows and each juror

Unborn babies are considered human beings by the U.S government. The federal Unborn Victims

end of World War 1 and how the Great Depressionstarted with the treaty of Versailles because it

Twentysomthings Research Paper
In today s time the age for which men and women are getting married and having children has risen
to extreme highs and the numbers are still climbing. This occurrence affects a certain group known

There has been many changes over the years in our culture on the viewing of getting married and
starting a family. One example of this is rather than people getting married they are cohabiting with
each other rather than committing themselves to marriage. One of the main reasons for this fact is
that many twentysomthings see this as a end to their freedom and that things are going to start
getting serious. But there are still people getting married but it at later times in their life.

played at their sporting event. The National Anthem is a song for our country and symbol to
represent all of the men and women who have fought in our military. This song is not played just
for our entertainment, it is to honor the flag and what it stands for. The protesting was started by
Colin Kaepernick, last season, when he was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He was
the first player to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem, now many other NFL
players this season are following in his path and doing the same thing. Many players and viewers
claim it is for police brutality and the injustice that is being served, while other viewers see it as
entitled millionaires disrespecting the flag and the military. Everyone has different opinions on the
issue, but no matter what the country needs to respect one another as humans and be united; the
American Flag is a symbol of our freedom and the NFL needs to recognize the National Anthem
rather than kneeling and disrespecting what it stands for. On one side of the controversy are the
people who agree with the protesting and kneeling for the National Anthem. Both the players and
viewers agree with the message they think is getting across. They are kneeling against police

Death Of Solomon Research Paper
Israel s Golden Age was during the reign of Solomon. As king, he had many different
accomplishments that many other kings did not have. Solomon three sources of national
income were, taxation that provided the main part of his support for his family as well as
furnished his court. Second was tribute and gifts that were received from different nations.
Lastly was the trade relationships that were developed in many areas. Solomon grew his
kingdom through building temples and palaces alongside developing alliances with Egypt and
other nations. But after Solomon s death, his empire crumbled and division occurred. There are
four main reasons why this division happened. First, there is evidence that even before the death
of Solomon, the nation was already starting to fall and this was because the tribes had grown
jealous of their independency and rights. The tribal jealousy can be traced by to the time of
Jacob and his wives. Leah and Rachel were jealous of on another, mainly when it came to their

The Debate Over the Constitutionality of the Affordable...
Essay 3 The question of whether or not Congress has the power to force people to buy health
insurance has been highly advocated by the supporters, and highly scrutinized by the opposition.
The constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 has thus been
defended on both sides. Advocates argues why it is constitutional by providing reason and benefits
of the Act, and the opposition argues why it is not constitutional by providing reason, and stating
the drawbacks of the Act. The debate about the Constitutionality of the Act boils down to whether
has Congress violated its powers as outlined in Article I of the Constitution. Article I gives three
main powers to Congress, and those were restated by the Supreme Court in Perez v. United States.
Firstly, Congress can regulate the channels of interstate commerce. Secondly, Congress has the
authority to regulate and protect the instrumentalities of interstate commerce and persons or things
in interstate commerce. Thirdly, Congress has the power to regulate activities that substantially
affect interstate commerce. However, the last step is at interest regarding this topic because it
draws attention towards the participation/non participation about the Affordable Care Act that
could potentially affect interstate commerce. This is concerning because although the local
activities implied in the third power do not directly participate in interstate commerce, all local

services between countries. The Anti Globalization Movement is not exactly one movement, but
many movements throughout the world, and is still going on today.
This movement was not exactly started by one person, but with small groups who would protest this
movement. The origin of this movement came from the uprising of the Zapatista Army of National
Liberation in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
To summarize, the Anti Globalization Movement is trying to put an end with free transfer or free
trade of services, labor and trade. They want to put an end to sweatshops. The two biggest points in
this movement were in Mexico, when the Zapatista Army of National Liberation had an uprising
in 1994. Also, when the nonviolent protest in Seattle in front of the World Trade Organization,
became a riot in the city. This movement, over the past decade, has been fizzling away. Every
year we see less and less activity. But I wouldn t say that this Movement is over. All across the
world there are people who strongly disagree with what is going down, and I wouldn t be surprised
if there are more riots and

Analysis Of Tim Burton Creative Style
Tim Burton, a producer, director, screenwriter, and author, known for his distinctive style of horror
and fantasy blended with reality, created two of the most critically acclaimed films in our
generation. His creative style even led to the invention of a new word, Burtonesque (Renee).
Known for illustrating stories with an eccentric or gothic twist, such as his reinterpretation of Roald
Dahl s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Edward Scissorhands, he manipulates various literary
and cinematic techniques to display his perspective of fantasy, typically emphasizing the negative
elements. The films he produces visualize stories about isolated and atypical characters. Straying
from society s status quo for movies, his unorthodox outlook connects with the inner vulnerability
of humans, therefore making his projects box office successes. In his works, he manages to
incorporate themes of human depravity and overall horror into supposedly happy fairy tales. In his
movies, Tim Burton explores dark and disturbing visuals, an assortment of lighting effects, an
unconventional sequence of events, and different styles of music, to demonstrate the negative
aspects of society and the treatment of individuals society recognizes as inferior or abnormal.
Certain colors correspond with specific emotions or feelings ( Color Meanings, Color Symbolism,
Meaning of Colors ). For example, red possibly represents anger, passion, and love, and blue
represents sadness, serenity, and despair

A Brief Note On Labor And Leisure
Katy Miller Labour and Leisure essay two Women and Labour: The changing roles in our
working society through a lens. It s hard to believe in this day and age with so many
opportunities for woman to become successful in a carer and contribute to the working society
that before the First World War only ninety years ago marriage meant the end of that chance for
so many young people. By looking at both short films and film depictions, I want to show the
journey of how the Labour industry has changed from being a majority lead male dominated
working environment with the social status for woman changing from those who are either
unmarried or in poor lower class families in domestic feminine held jobs, to those of married
woman, in a well to do family made to give up chances of education and carer for themselves,
married off to become leisurely ladies of the house and made to stay home with the children
while there husband became the sole earner. Regardless of her social status, most woman
surrendered her rights from the day she married but if on the off chance she was able to work in
one of these domestic arenas such as the textile and clothing industry the jobs would have been of
little satisfaction and that of a low wage. This was to be true of a time in Victorian England, but in
1895 French director Louis Lumiбє»re created a short black and white silent documentary that
showed a single screen of French workers in Lyon leaving the Lumiбє»re factory called Workers

The Disease Of Cystic Fibrosis
My research paper is going to be on the disease Cystic Fibrosis. Before I begin I want to
explain a little background as to why I chose this topic. My brother in law s brother lost his life
at the age of 23 to this disease and it was extremely harsh for the family, even knowing this
disease is incurable. It s one of those rare diseases that we cannot cure as of yet but many
doctors do research on how to overcome this. Just like any other incurable disease.
What is Cystic Fibrosis? The name of it can be broken down into medical word
terminology. Cystic means pertaining to cysts or characterization of them. Fibrosis means the
abnormal condition of fibrous tissue in an organ. This disease affects the lungs and the ability to
breath ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The pancreas also
helps make enzymes that digest food. When you have Cystic Fibrosis, the level of mucus ends
up blocking the ducts of the pancreas, reducing production of insulin and prevents digestive
enzymes from reaching the intestines to help with the digestive process. When you have
problems in your digestive system this can lead to diarrhea, malnutrition, poor growth and even
weight loss.
The history of Cystic Fibrosis dates back to the 1930 s. People would realize that
children with salty skin often died in infancy and younger ages. The disease was first named
in 1936 by pediatrician Guido Fanconi. A profile published by a Dorothy Hansine in 1938,
described the characteristics and symptoms of this disease and what exact organs it relates to.
However, this did not help prolong nor solve the issue or help assist in any treatments at the
time. It was finally discovered in 1949 by Dr. Anderson, that Cystic Fibrosis was a recessive
mutant gene. More advances were not made until the 1980 s when researchers discovered
organ damage and the malfunctioning of the epithelial tissue were caused by this disease called
Cystic Fibrosis . ( Who discovered Cystic Fibrosis? Page 1, http://reliawire.com/who
discovered cystic fibrosis/). In the 1950 s it was noticed at that time that patients were
suffering from excessive dehydration who were diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. This was

The Archetype Of Metamorphosis In Tim Burton s Big Fish
In Tim Burton s Big Fish , there is a recurring archetype of metamorphosis. It demonstrates
transitions from innocence to experience, from the Iron Age to the Golden Age; and from season
to season. Each shift plays a big part in the overall development of the film, as well as adding to
several characters dimensions. The shift from innocence to experience is demonstrated throughout
William s personal growth surrounding his father s stories. His perspective on them shifts
dramatically as he searches for their truths. In the beginning, he innocently assumes that they are
nothing but lies. As his search continues, and his experience grows, he discovered that there is a
basis of truth in every story. This is significant as it changes his perspective on his father. For years,
he had foolishly believed that there was absolutely no truth, to the point where it caused tension
between them. The change in... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In his stories, everything that seemed bad or evil at the time, lead to something good. His path
through the dark woods nearly killed him, yet brought him to Spector, a town of great influence.
This represents winter turning into spring. Similarly, his time at the circus did the same. It
seemed as though he would never learn Sandra s name, only small insignificant facts. However,
the small facts he did learnt eventually helped him win her over in the end. These changes were
what allowed Edward to be so successful in all his endeavours. His life as a whole also went
through all the seasons. His happy childhood represented spring. His adulthood became summer, as
all his accomplishments were realised. Autumn started after his fight with William, and finally
winter came with his death. The change in season through his life gave Edward a full life. These
shifts shaped who he was, and consequently affect those around him. The seasons represented, for
Edward, hope. They assured him that light would eventually

On December 7, 1941, the American naval base Pearl Harbor was attacked by the Japanese empire. On 9/11 the World Trade Center was attacked by Islamic men. These men hijacked two planes and crashed the planes into the World Trade Centerin New York. A third plane was hijacked and crashed into the Pentagon in Washington DC. A fourth plane crashed into a field southeast of Pittsburgh due to resistance from the passengers and crew. The American presidents Franklin D. Roosevelt and George W. Bush gave speeches. The speeches were designed to inform and to reassure the American people. Franklin D. Roosevelt, the president at the time of the Pearl Harbor attack, gave a speech to Congress which was recorded so the American people knew what had occurred. George W. These actions were done in response to Japanese actions in French Indo China. The Japanese had invaded Indo China and had driven the French from their colony. These dealings resulted in Japanese and American negotiations concerning the trade exchange for Japan to stop its militaristic advances. Eventually these negotiations stalemated and Japan decided something needed to be done. So a military action was decided upon by the Japanese. • 11. General Motors Oligopoly Essay The average level of profit per annum is approximately $5.02 billion USD. As shown by the table above, the average revenue, $39 256.20, is significantly greater than the average total costs,34 289.20. Although we cannot ascertain what the level of normal profit for General Motors truly is, considering the revenue earned is approximately $5 billion greater than the total costs, General Motors is clearly charging significantly more for vehicles than just the price that covers costs. Thus there is a presence of abnormal profits proving that the firm is operating in an oligopolistic market. Additionally, the firm s ability to charge a significantly greater price for each unit sold, shows its price making behavior in the industry. Often firms will drive down prices to intentionally ensure new entrants in the market cannot sustain this loss of revenue. However the fact that there has not been any significant price reductions in the past years of operation proves that the threat of competition is not enough to force prices down towards normal profit levels and there are thus high barriers to entry. 3. Non Price Competition As previously discussed, prices in the automotive industry tend to stick at their current set price and only increase or decrease within a small range. Since firms in an oligopoly do not compete by adjusting the price of their products, they compete using non price related methods. To begin, one way in which General Motors broadens its consumer base is ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

  • 14. The Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Essay The e Deepwater Horizon oil spill at the Macondo well began on April 20, 2010, in the Gulf of Mexico on the BP operated Macondo Prospect. An explosion on the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig on 20 April 2010 killed 11 people and caused almost 5 million barrels of oil to flow into the Gulf of Mexico. The spill covered 68,000 square miles of land and sea and triggered a response effort involving the use of nearly 2 million gallons of dispersant chemicals (Pallardy). Considered the largest accidental marine oil spill in history, the Deepwater Horizon oil spill (DHOS) resulted in widespread environmental and economic damage, the exact nature of which is only beginning to be understood (Shultz 59). This paper will address the causes of this unmitigated ecological disaster and discuss steps that need to be taken to prevent a similar disaster from occurring again. There were a number of causes for the Deepwater Horizon oil spill, most of which had more to do with the human element that with any technology itself. The four biggest ways that humans contributed to the disaster, as explained by journalist David Coburn, was the fact that British Petroleum s (BP) past success built a sense of complacency, the shifting the burden of proof, the normalization of deviance and the fact that promoters for an industry also serve as that industry s regulatory enforcers. One might ask themselves how being continuously successful can make a person or agency more likely to suffer a disaster. If they ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 15. The History Of The Library Profession John Ambrosio (2013), reflecting on the history of the library profession, invokes Antonio Gramsci, who said that a critical understanding of the self also requires the development of an ethical stance, a set of values, principles, and virtues to guide one s moral conduct (Ambrosio, 2013, p. 328). Lacking such ethics or praxis, librarians are vulnerable to the dominant political ideology. The way to overcome paralysis is the consciousness of what one really is and knowing oneself. It begins with taking an inventory of our historical formation with determining how we have been secretly imprinted by history; how our language, thoughts and identities have been informed by various currents of philosophical thought and cultural practices (Gramsci in Ambrosio, 2013, p. 328). By examining the history of the library profession a history that conflates neutrality with equality and democracy, staffed by a cadre of professionals who trace their beginnings to a theory of library economy it is easy to imagine how neoliberal ideology found a home in the library. Many theorists recognize the fact that librarians have the potential to make progressive reforms to society (Raber, 2003, p. 47), if they would only break free of the contradictory theoretical consciousness and hegemonic norms that hold them back from doing so by suggesting that they should take no action (Bales Engle, 2012, p. 22). Analysis of PlatoВґs Republic Republic, perhaps Plato s most famous work focusing on justice and its values, is also home to Socrates unique ideas and the challenges that he faces throughout his dialogues with other philosophers. Nevertheless, justice is not the only topic that Plato examines in his work. In the Republic, a simple discussion of the justice and the different characteristics of cities, escalates into a discussion about the souls of individuals. Socrates starts out by offering an agreement to the fact that since cities are made of individuals, their characteristics can also be found in individuals. Though Socrates attempts to define the three parts of the soul in detail, he is faced with some challenges. Socrates seems unsatisfied with his discovery, as he questions himself whether these parts work individually, or together, each controlling an appropriate portion of the soul. In order to find an appropriate explanation to his question, Socrates brings an example of a soul desiring a drink, and a soul that is desires to get a drink. He claims that although driven by the same desire of thirst, these are different. However, the souls can never desire completely opposite things at the same exact time. For example, if one part of the soul wants a drink, and the other part desires to get a drink, the third part cannot forbid itself from taking a drink. Aside from defining the different parts of the soul, Socrates also needs to prove that the souls can be viewed as having virtues, just like the cities. The city originated by Socrates in the theory is a entirely good city. In his words, it is wise, courageous, moderate and just (Republic 4.427d). Socrates presents each virtue (wisdom, courage, moderation, and justice) in the city. Now, he is determined to show that the same virtues exist within individuals. Consequently, Socrates proves that justice is comfort for the soul and henceforth beneficial to the soul. (444c 445a). Socrates divides sets each virtue where he believes they belong. But, what divides both groups the most is the aspect that David and the telepaths are willing to accept change while the Waknuk people chooses to refuse. In the beginning of the novel, both groups had the same beliefs and views of God. This is because most of David s group members are from Waknuk. • 27. The Increasing Threat from Mercury in Our Aquatic Environment Mercury contamination in aquatic environments is becoming an increasing threat to both wildlife and humans (Peterson S. A., 2007). Organisms in the aquatic environment, particularly fish, bioaccumulate methylmercury from contaminated water and food, but predominately from food (Peterson S. A., 2007). Mercury in the atmosphereexists in three inorganic forms: gaseous elemental mercury (GEM: Hg0), oxidized mercury typically called reactive gaseous mercury (RGM: Hg2+), and particulate mercury (Hgp) (Hyun Deok Choi, 2008). Once emitted, mercury can be transformed from one species to another via photoreduction, reactions with halides, and other oxidation /reduction reactions (Hyun Deok Choi, 2008). Methylmercuryis the bioavailable form of mercury, with well documented adverse effects (Rimmer, 2010). Methylated mercury is known to cause adverse effects to wildlife and aquatic organisms. Methylmercury can have neurotoxic, immunotoxic, and developmental effects on fish, birds, and mammals; top consumers may be at elevated risk (Weir, 2010). Methylmercury is synthesized from inorganic mercury (Hg II) by aquatic bacteria at oxic/anoxic boundaries such as sedimentwater interface of lakes and rivers (Hurley JP, 1995). The poem starts with a description of a photographer standing alone in a dark room with all the photos he has taken contained within the rolls, which are organised in neat rows. The irony within this stanza is the fact that whilst he was in the moment of the job, he wasn t afraid, but he now trembles with fear even though he is in the safety of his own home in rural England. Freedom From Fear Book Report David Kennedy s book Freedom from Fear: The American People in Depression and War 1929 1945 shines light on the financial impacts that hit the country during the Great Depression and World War 2. This book shares how some people assumed that Franklyn D Roosevelt was a successor in getting things moving to a better economy but if it wasn t for Hoover things may have been worse, or that s what I took from it. Kennedy starts off the book with talking about the end of World War 1 and how the Great Depressionstarted with the treaty of Versailles because it had led men of World War 2 to believe that they could be better leaders of their country. Although the stock market crash has not been directly connected with the start of the Great Depression it did scare so many people that they ran to banks to withdraw what money they had left only to have banks soon fail. Banks had a major crisis at hand because they money they loaned out went into buying stocks. This crash had caused the banks to fail when people couldn t keep up with their payments. Hoover had tried to help cushion the blow. He had tried to get business leaders to hold wages at a certain prices. He had also got the Federal Reserve involved by making open market purchases. He even tried to help those who were unemployed by stimulating construction work. This was the best he could do with the help he had. In this protest, many NFL players one by one knelt down while the National Anthem played at their sporting event. The National Anthem is a song for our country and symbol to represent all of the men and women who have fought in our military. This song is not played just for our entertainment, it is to honor the flag and what it stands for. The protesting was started by Colin Kaepernick, last season, when he was the quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He was the first player to take a knee during the playing of the National Anthem, now many other NFL players this season are following in his path and doing the same thing. Many players and viewers claim it is for police brutality and the injustice that is being served, while other viewers see it as entitled millionaires disrespecting the flag and the military. Everyone has different opinions on the issue, but no matter what the country needs to respect one another as humans and be united; the American Flag is a symbol of our freedom and the NFL needs to recognize the National Anthem rather than kneeling and disrespecting what it stands for. Solomon three sources of national income were, taxation that provided the main part of his support for his family as well as furnished his court. Second was tribute and gifts that were received from different nations. Lastly was the trade relationships that were developed in many areas. Solomon grew his kingdom through building temples and palaces alongside developing alliances with Egypt and other nations. But after Solomon s death, his empire crumbled and division occurred. There are four main reasons why this division happened. First, there is evidence that even before the death of Solomon, the nation was already starting to fall and this was because the tribes had grown jealous of their independency and rights. The tribal jealousy can be traced by to the time of Jacob and his wives. Leah and Rachel were jealous of on another, mainly when it came to their sons and who would receive the blessing of Jacob. • 39. The Debate Over the Constitutionality of the Affordable... Essay 3 The question of whether or not Congress has the power to force people to buy health insurance has been highly advocated by the supporters, and highly scrutinized by the opposition. The constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010 has thus been defended on both sides. Advocates argues why it is constitutional by providing reason and benefits of the Act, and the opposition argues why it is not constitutional by providing reason, and stating the drawbacks of the Act. The debate about the Constitutionality of the Act boils down to whether has Congress violated its powers as outlined in Article I of the Constitution. Article I gives three main powers to Congress, and those were restated by the Supreme Court in Perez v. United States. Firstly, Congress can regulate the channels of interstate commerce. Secondly, Congress has the authority to regulate and protect the instrumentalities of interstate commerce and persons or things in interstate commerce. Thirdly, Congress has the power to regulate activities that substantially affect interstate commerce. However, the last step is at interest regarding this topic because it draws attention towards the participation/non participation about the Affordable Care Act that could potentially affect interstate commerce. • 44. Analysis Of Tim Burton Creative Style Tim Burton, a producer, director, screenwriter, and author, known for his distinctive style of horror and fantasy blended with reality, created two of the most critically acclaimed films in our generation. His creative style even led to the invention of a new word, Burtonesque (Renee). Known for illustrating stories with an eccentric or gothic twist, such as his reinterpretation of Roald Dahl s Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and Edward Scissorhands, he manipulates various literary and cinematic techniques to display his perspective of fantasy, typically emphasizing the negative elements. The films he produces visualize stories about isolated and atypical characters. Straying from society s status quo for movies, his unorthodox outlook connects with the inner vulnerability of humans, therefore making his projects box office successes. In his works, he manages to incorporate themes of human depravity and overall horror into supposedly happy fairy tales. In his movies, Tim Burton explores dark and disturbing visuals, an assortment of lighting effects, an unconventional sequence of events, and different styles of music, to demonstrate the negative aspects of society and the treatment of individuals society recognizes as inferior or abnormal. It s hard to believe in this day and age with so many opportunities for woman to become successful in a carer and contribute to the working society that before the First World War only ninety years ago marriage meant the end of that chance for so many young people. By looking at both short films and film depictions, I want to show the journey of how the Labour industry has changed from being a majority lead male dominated working environment with the social status for woman changing from those who are either unmarried or in poor lower class families in domestic feminine held jobs, to those of married woman, in a well to do family made to give up chances of education and carer for themselves, married off to become leisurely ladies of the house and made to stay home with the children while there husband became the sole earner. Regardless of her social status, most woman surrendered her rights from the day she married but if on the off chance she was able to work in one of these domestic arenas such as the textile and clothing industry the jobs would have been of little satisfaction and that of a low wage.
