Nursing Professional Portfolios
Portfolios have been used to showcase the work of artists, fashion designers, models, photographers
and architects, spanning several decades (M.Williams., K.Jordan., 2007) These career portfolios
have been adopted in to the nursing profession where they serve as an augmentation but not a
replacement of their curriculum vitae (Lettus, 2001). They have not only transcended beyond the
traditional listing of basic information such as relevant past work experiences and positions held,
educational institutions attended and achievements but provide additional information that resumes
would have presented (M.J. Jone., 2007). A professional portfoliois a thoughtfully prepared and
organised compilation of different types of professional information and evidence that illustrate an
individual s record of continuing professional development activities, skills, experiences,
knowledge, competencies, professional achievements and goals as well as their level of expertise
that one has attained as a result of their experiences. (Andre Heartfield, 2011)The basic components
of a professional portfolio include personal details, resume and documents such as certificates
graduate transcripts, licensure, (Davis, 2015) professional organisation memberships, professional
awards, annual performance appraisals, dates of promotions, recommendations from current or
previous supervisors or employers, peers and others (Timmins Duffy, 2011).... Show more content

Analysis of Characters in Ugly American by by Burdick and...
The next character I will mention is Honorable Gilbert MacWhite, who replaced Ambassador Sears
in Sarkhan. This character functioned in complete contrast to Sears. He understood the sensitivity
of the US mission in Sarkhan and how vulnerable the Sarkhanese government was to potential
communist influences. He also understood the communist threat and did not underestimate it.
MacWhite s understandingof the operational environment was clear from the beginning and made
constant efforts in understanding the people of Sarkhan.
MacWhite arrived in Sarkhan well versed on the customs, language, and threats faced by the
country; this aided him in everything that followed through his tour. Understanding the operational
environment is critical in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Finally, MacWhite understood the need for legitimacy across the country and this became very
evident in his constant search for individuals who can provide a means for the Sarkhaneese to
develop the country by themselves. An example that comes to mind from the story is when he
talked to Atkins in order to develop a way for the people of Sarkhan to transfer water from the
river, uphill, to the rice paddies. The ability he provided to ensure attainable resources were
available to the common people legitimized the active concern of the USG towards the country as a
whole. What I believe made the legitimate action in this case was not the machine which was not
completed at this point but the legitimate concern of the Ambassador.
As depicted in the above paragraphs, MacWhite displayed three Special Operation Imperatives in a
clear manner: understanding the operational environment, anticipating long term effects, and
ensuring legitimacy and credibility. I agree that other imperatives such as operating with and
through others and ensuring long term sustainment could also be added to the list, but I wanted to
provide a contrast to the actions of Sears and those of MacWhite. His proactive and constant search
to understand the operational environment gave MacWhite the tools to better

How Baseball Survived the Great Depression Essays
Baseball remains today one of America s most popular sports, and furthermore, baseball is one of
America s most successful forms of entertainment. As a result, Baseball is an economic being of its
own. However, the sustainability of any professional sport organization depends directly on its
economic capabilities. For example, in Baseball, all revenue is a product of the fans reaction to
ticket prices, advertisements, television contracts, etc. During the devastating Great Depressionin
1929, the fans of baseball experienced fiscal suffering. The appeal of baseball declined as more and
more people were trying to make enough money to live. There was a significant drop in attention,
attendance, and enjoyment. Although baseball s vitality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
Radio broadcasting contributed to the survival of baseball in two ways. First, radio broadcast
kept people who could not afford tickets interested in the game. Second, radio broadcasting
brought in new fans that lived far away or never could afford to attend games. Therefore, radio
broadcasting was a popular and ingenious contribution to the survival of baseball during the
great depression. In addition, the farm system was created and refined during the great
depression. The farm system was a way to cut down the expensive sums of money spent on
buying new players. Lauren Vorel, who is a baseball historian, describes the farm system by
saying, The farm system allowed major league teams to develop ballplayers in the minor league
teams and draft them up to the majors, instead of having to complete expensive trades with other
major league teams for developed ball players. Because of the farm system, baseball clubs saved
money while still having valuable players. The farm system was prosperous, and many teams
began to have success from implementing the farm system. For example, the White Sox s team
was composed of many players who came from their farm system. Because the White Sox did not
trade or purchase players during this time, they saved a lot of money. There are many more
examples of the farm system s success, and it is still used today. Therefore, the farm system was
another ingenious tool that benefited

Analysis Of Madeleine Thien s Do Not Say We Have Nothing
Canada is a nation that prides itself on acceptance, allowing anyone to do anything regardless of
the person or dream. However, what happens to a person if this is not the case? If dreams are
treated the exact opposite, looked down upon by everyone around them. The inevitable
consequences of the denial of one s dreams is demonstrated in Do Not Say We Have Nothing by
Madeleine Thien, where musicians and friends, Sparrow, Kai, and Zhuli, live in an era surrounded
by people who despise what they do. Despite all three responding to the constant hostility in
different ways, all three live miserable lives in the end. As a result of the harsh Chinese culture in

her passion for music, she is physically and verbally abused in the public eye. She was slapped

her to conclude that she no longer deserves to live, resulting in her hanging herself not too long

due to the constant hate she receive. She no longer knows who she truly is anymore, and ultimately

What Makes A One Stop Guide On The Landscape
A ONE STOP GUIDE ON HOW TO LANDSCAPE
It is of utmost certainty that people nowadays admire beautiful and incredibly structured gardens
and home fields and back yards. Not only is it applicable to home grounds and fields but it is also
quite possible to perform landscaping techniques on any outstretched field that you may have in
mind.
To the uninitiated landscaping refers to any activity and process that directly alters and modifies
natural, abstract and the living elements alike of an outstretched area of land. That said,
landscaping is an artistic activity that requires highly trained expertise in horticulture.
For living features, it requires modification of the surrounding flora and fauna of the area of land
and such activities lead to growth and nurture of plants with the intention of creating a breathtaking
environment within the intended area undergoing landscaping. This is what is commonly referred
to gardening in simple terms.
Secondly, when it comes to the natural features, this entails making changes to the land s terrain,
elevation and the general landforms. Finally, the abstract features are the elements that relate to the
weather and the lighting conditions of the area of land undergoing landscaping.
The landscaping process need not be a humongous and an overwhelming exercise for it is easy to
manipulate and implement. It basically involves two crucial steps i.e. landscape design and the
actual landscape construction. The landscape design involves a series of

Impact of Media on the People of Pakistan
In the late 20th Century, mass media could be classified into eight mass media industries: books,
newspapers, magazines, recordings, radio, movies, television and the internet. With the explosion
of digital communication technology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the question of what
forms of media should be classified as mass mediahas become more prominent. For example, it is
controversial whether to include cell phones, video games and computer games (such as
MMORPGs) in the definition. In the 2000s, a classification called the seven mass mediabecame
popular. In order of introduction, they are:

This transmittion of mass advertising to millions of people is a form of mass communication.
Video games may also be evolving into a mass medium. Video games convey the same messages
and ideologies to all their users users. Users sometimes share the experience with each other by
playing online. Excluding the internet however, it is questionable whether players of video
games are sharing a common experience when they play the game separately. It is possible to
discuss in great detail the events of a video game with a friend you have never played with because
the experience was identical to you both. The question is if this is then a form of mass
communication.
MMORPGS such as Runescape provide a common gaming experience to millions of users
throughout the globe. It is arguable that the users are receiving the same message, i.e., the game is
mass communicating the same messages to the various players.
A life without the presence of mass media would seem improbable for many! Let s read about the
pros and cons of mass media and its effect on a larger scale.
Mass media enjoys a very prominent role in our lives. There are various effects of mass media on
the society at large. Media tends to influence and it s obvious, there are positive as well as
negative influences of mass media. However, it also depends upon the way audiences perceive
things. The power of the mass media is by far recognized by everybody in terms of advertising,

The Ethics Of The Texas Government
After examining the power one lobbyist can have in the Texas government, it is appropriate to
look at the enormity of what a corporation who specializes in lobbying efforts is capable of. The
company being examined is called Cassidy and Associates. Cassidy came into the forefront of Texas
politics, when in 2006 Carol Strayhorn, the comptroller announced the state of Texaswould be
suspending payments to a Washington lobbyingfirm hired by Rick Perry, called Cassidy and
Associates (Zeller 2006). The reason this is a seemingly bold move by the comptroller is because
of how powerful this company is. In 1999, Cassidy and Associates billed their clients 19.8 million
dollars, making them the biggest grossing lobbying firm in the nation ... Show more content on

Another example of this is in New York City, where a hospital for special surgery, paid Cassidy
140,000 dollars and obtained a 1 million dollar grant from HRSA (Zeller 2006). This is what
lobbyist companies are able to do they receive a sum from their customer and then in return try
and give them a lot of government money. This affected Texas because not every time someone
gives a lobbying group money are they guaranteed to receive anything in return. One of Cassidy
s clients were the president at the University of Dallas, and what probably took place is that they
did not get the federal funding at one of the universities in the state and now the accountant or
comptroller begins to wonder why public universities are giving a lobbying group in
Washington so much money and getting nothing back, so she pulls the plug on allowing them to
receive any more money. Cassidy certainly has not shied away from looking shady with their
business. In the nineties they hired as CEO a man named Marty Pusso and he was vice chairman
of the house ways and means health subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over numerous
healthcare issues and programs (Zeller 2006). Being the Vice Chairman as well as CEO of a
lobbying company that in 1999 received 1.3 million dollars from 10 hospitals (Zeller 2006) seems
to create a conflict of interest problem or in Pusso s case a solution. Furthermore, this questions as

Summary Of The I Didn t A Christian Friend Essay
Sitting outside on the paint chipped, front porch in the middle of a sweltering night, listening to my
casually Christian friend, Cassie, tell a vaguely interesting story about her mother to another one of
my casually Christian friends, Shelby, was the first time I realized I wasn t a Christian.
And I don t really know if all this is true, she just rushed through the story over the phone a
minute ago, but my mom said that the stoplights had been out for a couple hours and when she
pulled up at the intersection and it was her turn to go, somebody cuts in front of her going the
other direction. She says it would ve been a huge accident, but the light flashed red for a second,
so she hit the brakes and missed the other car by a few feet, Cassie reported, wrapping up her story.
Wow, Shelby paused for a second. Just another one of Gods miracles, she sighed unequivocally
with an optimistic, spiritual air.
I didn t let the verbal vomit register in my brain by merely not sanctioning it to enter in the first
place. I never understood how someone can believe in miracles. How can one have so much
blind faith? This world is not full of miracles, this world is full of the same humdrum twists of
fate that occur to every one of us time and time again in our compendious lives. With the world

Lack of historical records makes some historians question the association between the First
Emperor and the construction of the wall. What is certain, however, is that if the First Emperor
gave the orders to build the Great Wall, it was not built as we know it today. The walls would
have been made of stones or earth, depending on what was more readily available. The
philosophies of the time included Confucianism and Legalism, as simplified by modern scholar
Arthur Waley in his book, Three Ways of Thought in Ancient China. Confucianism was
considered bad and impractical, based on the idea that it was ruler based and hind sighted. The
Legalists were considered good and practical because the administrations they set up were run by
qualified men, used agriculture to stimulate the economy, and created clear laws. In fact, the First
Emperor ordered the burning of several Confucius texts part of the Five Classics including the
Book of Poetry and the Book of Documents. This was knows as the Burning of the Books. This
burning also included other literature such as poetry, historical documents, and philosophical texts.
This was done because the emperor felt threatened by those below him with something critical to
say. [All] persons in the empire daring to store [these books] should go to the administrative and
military governors so that these books may be indiscriminately burned. Those who dare to discuss

Issues in British inner city estates
There is increasing evidence that poverty, unemployment and social stress are all now seen in
British Inner Cities. There are
many problems which the areas face, both physically and even in some cases mentally:
1.the physical fabric of the buildings, many originally built using cheap materials and methods, is
deteriorating rapidly.
However the councils are trying to upgrade these poor housing conditions gradually.
2.Many inner city areas include high rise buildings which have created feelings or isolation and
stress related illnesses.
3.The low level or car ownership and high bus fares have increased the feeling of isolation from
jobs, shops and
entertainment.
4.Levels of unemployment often exceed 30%. There are also low income families; many elderly
living on small pensions.
5.The environment quality of the areas are poor, often with the lack of open space.
6.The inner city tend to have high levels of marital problems, drug taking, petty crime and
vandalism and low levels of
academic attainment and aspiration.
We can see quite clearly from above the poor conditions that face Britain s poorer people, these
factors having to be dealt with.

Counter Argument On Meditation
Counter Argument
Although admired by many very few of us truthfully know what meditation is. It is more or less
mental activity aiming at shifting human concentration to something else; others consider that
humans meditate when they visualize something that gives them peacetime or satisfaction. No
matter what the scientific definition is, the goal is to slow down and, eventually, completely break
the continuous activity of the human mind. Mariam Emara is supporting meditation powerfully as
she is an Arhati Yogi, pranic healer and meditation instructor she is trying to transfer her knowledge
to others and to inspire people to start practicing meditation. Although the writer of the article tried
to promote the idea and practice of meditation, she relied more on her personal experience instead
of scientific facts. She resorted to false assumption, logical fallacies and weak evidence from

Dr. Grant Brow who is a Concordia University biologist that specializes in aquatic behavioral and

says that the contamination is not a big concern due to the sheer size of the river and how
quickly it flows at a rate of 6,000 to 7,000 cubic meters a second, compared to the flow rate of the

The horror genre has many lessons to teach us as an audience although being the genre most

Films such as Carrie (DePalma 1976), Misery (Reiner 1990), Evil Dead (Raimi 1981), The Exorcist
(Friedkin 1973), The Birds (Hitchcock 1963) have all been made into stage productions; treading
the boards as a Broadway Musical or as serious drama. These adaptations have gained cult
followings and mixed reviews.
In 2014 the London theatre scene will be dominated by horror on stage. Productions of Fatal
Attraction (Dearden 2014), American Psycho (Aguirre Sacasa 2013), Let the Right One In
(Thorne 2013), Woman in Black (Mallatratt 1987) and Ghost stories (Dyson Nyman 2012) will
lead the early part of the season. The power of stage horror doesn t just match that of horror
cinema, it can actually outdo it as it can carry a blow that is extremely intensified because it is
live. The question for the stage though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage
without the magic of high expensive technical effects?
Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder
and revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage.
In modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol,
which presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed

Waiting For Godot And Dr Strangelove Essay
Significant texts in any period arise from particular ways of thinking and possess an enduring
relevance. Following the dropping of the atomic bombs at the end of World War Two, global
consciousness began to slowly change due to the realisation that civilisation could be destroyed at
the press of a button. Texts that are able to grasp these changes, depicting their immediate context
while also reflecting on universal questions, possess enduring value. Waiting for Godot, the 1952
stage play by Samuel Beckett, challenged the idea of human purpose and also questioned the
relevance of scripture and religious institutions. Similarly, Plath, in Ariel, a collection of poems
posthumously published in 1965, challenged the same ideas, especially... Show more content on

The montage is accompanied by a non diegetic string arrangement of the song Try a Little
Tenderness . Kubrick specifically creates an overt sexual innuendo to make light of great fear.
This foreshadows the rest of the movie where frequent sexual themes and comedic tropes are
utilised to undermine previously unquestioned figures of authority. Beckett s opening also
foreshadows the rest of the play, as the setting begins the continual challenge of the institutional
idea of human purpose, as it accentuates the lack of meaning an idea also extended by the
characters. When Estragon struggles to take off his boot, he mutters Nothing to be done , which
Vladimir mistakes for existential discourse and replies with I m beginning to come around to that
opinion. All my life I ve put it from me. Beckett uses verbal irony to show how the most simple
statement could be mistaken as a philosophical pondering on existence, which in turn is designed
to pose the question of whether individuals truly have an essence. Similarly, Kubrick uses
absurdist humour to force a questioning of what had been the bedrock of the western world: the
political sphere. President Muffley, himself named after pubic hair wigs, attempts to avert atomic
bombs being dropped on Russia and desperately calls the Chairman of the USSR. However he
proceeds to waste time commenting on the good phone connection,

Plato And St. Augustine
Plato suggested that values such as justice and right conduct are absolute and beyond the realm of
subjective viewpoints. One of his arguments against moral relativism is that it is logically unsound.
Plato proposed a multi layered existence. There is the world of sensory perception, which includes
the physical realities of existence. Platoargued for a higher level of being that he understood as a
world of forms, ideas or concepts. Plato argued that conduct comes from a reference to this world
of forms. By this argument, there is an eternal idea or form of each moral principle, such as justice,
piety or truth. This essay will discuss the ethics of Plato, Socrates and St. Augustine
According to Plato, evil is simply the result of ignorance. He believed that all people are
attempting to do what they understand as good. He believes there are three parts of the soul. There
is a rational and moral part of the soul that loves truth, justice and good. There is a spirited part of
the soul that loves worldly achievement, riches and victory. Lastly, there is an appetitive part of the
soul that craves food and carnal gratification. Plato argued that the rational part of the soul should
rightly be in charge, as it is most in tune with moral value.
Socrates believed that no one does wrong voluntarily. Evil is the result of ignorance. If people
knew what was the right thing to do they would do it. We always choose what we think is the best
or good for us. So, if someone chooses to

Most people are not aware of the journey animals make from birth to table. As well as how what
they are fed impacts us as omnivores, the soil as well as the animal themselves. In addition to the
monetary and environmental cost of providing feed, transporting the animal, carcass and all. If we
truly understood where our food is produced, how and what is fed to them, how much is
produced, what is used to ensure plentiful crops and how it eventually affects our health as well
as our ecosystem, we wouldn t want to eat it. Michael Pollan takes us on that journey in his book
An Omnivore s Dilemma where he explains how animals in feedlots, are subject to eating grain,
(i.e. corn) pumped with antibiotics as opposed to their natural diet of grass, in order to increase
their size. A practice endorsed by the United States Department of Agriculture. It is incredulous that
we as a nation have given power to food companies and politicians, the power to tell us what to eat,
often with only their profit s (rather than our health) in mind. Pollan also suggests that many of the
nutritional and health problems facing America today can be traced back to the farms that grow our
food (and the government policies that dictate what happens on those farms)

The Basic Level For A Good Programmer
Abstract of the Project: The compilers are the softwares which translates the computer language
(source code) into a language more basic to the machine level. The languages such as C, C++, etc
are some famous compilers. In this project, the main concept was about the understanding of
compilers but the best way to explain was with the help of famous and easy Object Oriented
Programming languageC++.
The project gives the vivid and simple view of C++ from the most basic level to the required high
level for a good programmer. The project can be treated as a book on C++ in simple language by
the student for the student. The project later on comprises of topics from the basic level Identifiers
and keywords, Data types, operators and types of operators then to an upper level Operator
Overloading, Polymorphism, Inheritance, Encapsulation, Constructors and Destructors, Inline
functions, etc. All the topics are discussed precisely and in simple language with suitable examples.
1. Introduction:
A compiler is a computer program that translates a computer program written in one computer
language (source language) into an equivalent program written in another computer language
(target language). Interpreter is similar to compiler but interpreter compiles line by line while
compiler compiles as a whole. Examples: C, C++, BASIC, COBAL, etc. The C programming
language has been used for last few decades for almost all the applications. Recently, the C++ with

Propagation Techniques That Could Be Used During Asexual...
a)Describe THREE propagation techniques that could be used in Asexual plant propagation.
Technique One: Budding
Name of plant chosen: Citrus
1.The first step in Budding is to choose the rootstock and budwood for the citrus plant budding.
When selecting the rootstock make sure it is healthy and strong and less than 7 years old but at
least as tall as 30cm. Make sure bud is not a flower bud.
2.The next step is to prepare the rootstock for the budwood. The best way to do this is to cut a T
shape about 20cm above the ground. Vertical cut should be 40 50mm and horizontal cut should be
25mm. This will allow room for budwood. If the rootstock is not being used right away cover the
cut with damp towel.
3.The next step is cutting the budwood off your desired citrus plant. When doing this makes sure
you use a clean and sharp knife. When cutting the bud off make sure you cut a 3cm sliver of bark
with the bud in the centre of it. The same with the rootstock if the budwood isn t being used
straight away cover in a damp towel.
4.The next step is actually putting the budwood in the t shape incision made in the rootstock. You
need to fold back the flaps made by the incision in the rootstock and place the budwood inside.
Make sure the bud is facing in the correct position, so when it grows it grows upward. You then
fold the flaps back over the budwood, but leaving the bud exposed.
5.Now you either use budding tape or something that can fasten the bud to the rootstock but also

Henry Fleming In The Red Badge Of Courage
In The Red Badge of Courage, main character Henry Fleming displays various aspects of his
personality throughout the novel mainly through his actions rather than his words. He is easily
impressed and affected by his experiences, and in some cases, even allows them to shape him and
his decisions. The way Stephen Crane describes Henry s sentiments is fully expressed and
thoroughly articulated, allowing the reader to feel as if they were capable of identifying with
Fleming himself, heedless of any unfamiliarity. Crane s subtle use of Henry s reactions to events
occurring throughout the plot begs the question of whether or not he purposely attempted to
display the youth s qualities and rationalization for his actions through his experiences. Having
already experienced battle in a negative way sets the stage for Henry s reluctance to once again
step onto the battlefield. Regardless of any good intentions he may have entered warwith, when

College Education Is Not Worth It
Americans today tend to believe that once graduating High School, college is redundant. On the
one hand, some argue that college education is not worth it. From this perspective, college is
expensive and students will be in an enormous amount of debt. Though I concede that college is
expensive, I still maintain that students should go to collegeonce graduating high school. My own
view is that college is a must after high school. Although, our society believes college is too

But if we shall neglect...shall fall to embrace this present world and prosecute our carnal
intentions, seeking great things for ourselves and our posterity, the Lord will surely break out in
wrath against us (Winthrop, 20). This idea that the Christian deity is somehow connected to
America s greatness can be found in Conwell s work, albeit used in a different manner. Like
Winthrop, Russell Conwell, author of Acres of Diamonds, stresses how great America is with
emphasis that it somehow ordained from a higher power. However, Winthrop focuses maintaining
this status through unselfish means while Conwell uses this as a way to establish individual
success. There never was a place on earth more adapted than the city of Philadelphia to day, and
never in the history of the world did a poor man without capital have such an opportunity . . .
Because to make money honestly is to preach the gospel (Conwell, 179). His argument that
Philadelphia is the greatest city on earth ties in with the concept of American exceptionalism. The
connection he makes with religion is contrasted to Winthrop since Winthrop argues that America
will lose its exceptionality if it does not avoid selfish actions. Conwell argues that God is placing
America in such a place that every person has the ability to acquire individual wealth. Though
Conwell focuses on the city of Philadelphia, his arguments can be applied to a more general sense
in America. His statement that

The Impact Of Pre Employment Tests On Children And Public...
The advent of computers resulted in the replacement of paper and pencil tests as the primary
medium of test delivery, with computerized versions, overseen by a proctor. Technological
innovations such as surveillance equipment, and random sampling from large item pools,
evolved to aid in minimizing cheating during proctored tests (Gibby et al., 2009; Bartram 2009).
The following proliferation of high speed internet into homes and public settings allowed some
employers to adopt UIT in order to cut costs of pre employment test administration while
reaching a more diverse pool of applicants. Many selection officials, however, continue to use
proctored tests for preliminary screening of applicants. The reasons for some selection officials
resistance to adopting UIT has yet to be researched. Perceptions of pre employment tests Previous
research has examined selection officials use and perceptions of various types of pre employment
tests used to measure a variety of constructs. Researchers have also examined factors likely to
contribute to selection officials choice to use a particular test. A qualitative study by König, Jöri,
and KnГјsel (2011) served as a basis for examining how selection officials choose pre employment
tests by investigating how Swiss human resource (HR) managers perceived various selection
instruments and the constructs on which these instruments were compared. Their results suggest
that the constructs used to compare selection instruments vary widely

The Situation Of The Iran Hostage Crisis
On November 4, 1979, an angry mob of some 300 to 500 supposed students who called
themselves Imam s Disciples, laid siege to the American Embassy in Tehran, Iran. The mob held
66 U.S. citizens and diplomats as hostages. Women and African Americans were released a short
while later, but 52 hostages still remained for 444 days. The president took precautions to ensure
the safety of the hostages as well as U.S. relations in Iran. This terrorist act triggered the most
profound crisis of the Carter presidency and began a personal ordeal for Jimmy Carterand the
American people. The events in the Iran Hostage Crisisdemonstrate how bad the president at the
time, Jimmy Carter, can handle such a horrible situation. Several negotiations were held between
President Jimmy Carter and the mob at the Embassy even if they weren t taken as good with the
mob. First off, Carter imposed sanctions and applied diplomatic pressure to encourage
negotiations for the release of the hostages. Carter then cancelled oil imports from Iran, expelled a
number of Iranians from the U.S., and freezing about $8 billion of Iranian assets in the U.S. The
Iranian government denied any responsibility for the incident, but their failure to take action
against the hostage takers belied the denial. This was one of the first mistakes; making the enemy

There are many gods, but one god in particular is the god of the underworld, and this god is
known as Hades. Hades is a very important part of the greek civilization, because he overthrew the
Titans and then the giants. Hades and his brothers came together to decide who would rule which
part of the lands. In conclusion, Hadesbecame the god of the underworld.
The greek god hades controls the dark underworld, it s where you go after you die, and where
other dark creatures linger there, such as cerberus. Cerberus is hades three headed dog that lives in

He simply ruled the land of darkness, but was not considered an evil god. Though this god was
not equivalent to the devil, he performed many frowned upon actions. Perhaps this is why the
Greeks turned their heads away from him. The Greeks believed associating yourself with hades
meant you were cursed for the rest of your life and spend your afterlife in the cold, dark,
underworld where you lived in shame.
Hades appearance was said to be a tall dark figure. His facial features were very precise, and he
had a full length beard. The beard was black. The underworld was described as a huge, never
ending, dark land that had massive death rivers surrounding it. When entering through the Gates
of hades you will be unfriendly greeted by Cerberus the 3 headed dog, and you will feel cold and
lonely. Some say you re tortured, others describe it as loneliness. Many theories of which have
been described.

a god of the underworld, and being an unlucky figure left Hades with very few stories. The stories
we do have on the god show us his powerful might, and his strength to threaten those who disobey
the chief god

interesting at first but as I watched it, the video got more and more interesting. Tyson is a very
good presenter in the video because he made it interesting and fun to listen to him. All in all, this
video was a great way to get his message out on how people think. I answered 5 questions that
Mrs. Baumaster asked about the video Fuzzy Thinking. Fuzzy Thinking is when people are not
thinking straight. I know this is correct because right after he said fuzzy thinking he told the
audience the definition of it. The misspelling of the word cat is a very complex question. One
misspelling is spelled as XQT and the other is spelled as KAT but they are considered equally as
wrong even though one sounds like cat and the other does not. Tyson s is an astrophysicist which

Battle of Covodonga. This is considered the beginning of the Spanish Reconquista. The
Reconquista was a period of around 774 years where the Christian kings reclaimed the Iberian
Peninsula from the Islamic Moors. The Reconquista was not carried out by the Spanish alone,
however. King Charlemagne of France reclaimed the western Pyrenees and formed the Marca
Hispanica to defend the border between the Frankish Kingdom and the Muslims. Christians from
all over Europe traveled to the Iberian Peninsula to participate in the reclaiming of Spain in the
name of God. The Reconquista was not all war and conquest, but also the re population of
Christians on the peninsula. As the Berbers abandoned towns and fortresses, the Christian kings
took their people and re inhabited those areas. In some places, Christian peasants, monks, and
nobles were granted lands by their king or lord to

The Role Of Identity Formalities In Adolescents
Identity Formalities in the early adolescent years of females have contributed to their
achievement levels in their later years. According to a study by Roeser et al (2008), identity
representations and the necessary balance between these identities are what determine the
success of girls by helping them have a healthy and successful school life or well being. These
identities either build social approval and self esteem from adults or athletic competence and
acceptance from peers. The main challenge, however, is the balance between adult and peer
oriented identities. For example, deciding whether to be a good student to parents or a cool friend
to peers. The study argues that girls have difficulties academically and otherwise because they are
unable to establish a balance between their identities easily. For example, they are judged for being
too smart culturally in some... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
A study by Meyer (1990) declares that athletes have higher aspirations than non athletes. Further, the
study states that female and male athletes both had high aspirations about school achievements and
graduating when they entered college. These aspirations were fostered by the support they obtained
from academic staff and others. Females were determined they would be more successful after they
obtained their degree and grew more motivated about their studies. However, when compared to a
similar study conducted on male student athletes, the Adler and Adler study, boys lost interest after
their first year in University. Arguably,

Inequality In Canada
The time in present is totally different from than in the past. The social structure has been changed
to pursue the same equality between races, culture and religions. Furthermore, the modern society
is being composed by a variety of social groups which called the multicultural organization.
However, the thought above is pretty incredible because the client believes that only white
privilege is still prevailed in the world and Christianity have to be accepted in Canada. It is a quite
serious idea that is established on by a severe prejudice toward different racial and religious. What
is more, Canada is known as the most equitable country in where lives together with various
ethnical groups; yet, the client statement showed that in Canada still

The World Is Growing Leaps And Bounds
INTRODUCTION The world is growing leaps and bounds when it comes to business compared
to the previous years and it continues to see this growth in the future years. Globalisation has
played a major role in all walks of life including business. Due to globalisation there are more and
more players emerging in the market which has resulted in the globe becoming smaller and
smaller, when it comes to business. The competition in the worldwide market is really intense
which asks for the companies to be way better than their competitors. The companies in today s
world really have to fight it out really hard to have a good standing in the market against their
competitors. They should always work towards retaining their customers or else their customers
will change their preferences which will in turn result in the company losing their market share and
the competitive edge. The companies should always come up with some good strategies to stay on
par with their competitors in the market. The companies should give upmost importance to
planning in their day to day activities in an organisation. The area of organisational planning has
become a critical area for consideration in this world of business which is ever growing and the
variety of products which are introduced in the market from different competitors. The
organisations should focus on attaining the customer requirements of the ever growing population
around the world and also they should be prepared to face the uncertainties

The Issue Of Taxation Of The United States Essay
Benjamin Franklin once said, in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and
taxes. Taxation has always been a hot button issue in the United States, as it was one of the primary
reasons the United States revolted from the British. The media have once again turned its attention
to the issue of taxation, but primarily on the increasing of taxes solely on upper class citizens. The
United Statescurrently employs a progressive taxrate, which means that the upper class already is
liable for a higher percentage of taxes. During the current presidential campaign, each of the
candidates has their own unique idea of tax reform. Some of the candidates tax plans cut taxes for
all through the change to a flat tax rate, while other plans do quite the contrary and raise taxes for
all. The candidates who are favoring the increase of taxes on the wealthy are attempting to enact
laws, which increase funding for government programs, attempt to redistribute the wealth to the
lower class, and eliminate the debt of the United States. However, the candidates who are
attempting to enact a flat tax rate are attempting to eliminate outdated government programs and to
help to increase jobs. A higher tax rate on the wealthy through a progressive tax system, at a
cursory glance, may appear to be beneficial, however, I am arguing to show the negative effects not
only for the wealthy but the United States economy as a whole. Some may believe that all of the
government funded

Photography As The Technical Side Of Photography
Photography was only an idea before it became something tangible and memorable. 100 Ideas That
Change Photography was written by Mary Warner Marien in 2011 and it is aim to help and remind
people about both the artistic photography as well as the technical side of photography. This book
thoroughly explains how does photographyevolve throughout time and it gathers information on
the most influential ideas that shaped photography from the early 19th century up to digital
revolution and beyond it.
Aesthetics
What is aesthetics? Aesthetics is a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of
beauty, especially in art. Many stated that photo as an art made by a camera, but if photo is an
objective rendering of what the camera sees and then say the photographer is merely a machine
operator, how can you say that the camerawork as an artwork if the operator knows nothing about
aesthetics value? Meaning here, all photographers need to know and learn what is aesthetics value
in order to not just be a machine operator but to be someone who knows all the principles, basic
understanding of what is camerawork, and good in interpreting as well as applying aesthetics
principle. Photography was invented during the time when art academies and public intellectuals
were taught a hands on theories and technique and at the same time strengthening the field of fine
arts. In the nineteenth century, numerous critics scrutinised the daguerreotype image were in favor

The Ice Age
From 2002 to 2016, the Ice Age movie franchise, produced by Blue Sky Studios, has capitalized
on events during the Pleistocene Epoch period when massive warming occurred in the earth. Even
though these movies are entertaining, they depict a view of how wildlife, plant life, and the earth s
environment drastically changed, albeit for the worse. For the most part, the release of carbon
dioxideis the causal effect of the death and destruction of the planet as it was known at that time.
There has been an ongoing debate as to the direct reason for the atmosphere s chemical
composition, including the release of harmful gases. The article, Melting of massive ice lid
resulted in huge release of carbon dioxide at the end of the Ice Age, written by Jenny Roberts
(www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160104163203.htm), suggests the melting of sea ice
caused the release of large amounts of carbon dioxide rather than the... Show more content on

Even though there are unchangeable factors such as the ice age, there are variables such as driving
cars, burning coal, and generating electricity, an illustration of the human footprints, which
demands alteration, if not elimination. People should question their actions, especially, if they want
a clean environment for the baby that is born today.
Ice Age, the franchise, hilariously illustrates the end of the ice age with characters that have
realized that they are, for the most part, one of a kind because their counterparts have become
extinct. These animated shows did not address the reasons for the meltdown, even though they
addressed many of the effects. Interestingly enough, it appears that the earth s warming is caused by
the release of carbon dioxide, and the melting of the sea s ice is a significant culprit of this

Hess Law Lab Report
LAB REPORT ON VERIFICATION OF HESS S LAW
Our purpose of doing this lab was to prove the Hess s law correct. Hess s law suggests that the
enthalpy change of a reaction must be equal to the sum of the enthalpy changes of the related
reactions which lead to the original reactions. The following are the reactions at the lab; 1) NaOH (
s) NaOH (aq) 2) NaOH (aq) + HCl (aq) NaCl (aq) + H2O (l) 3) NaOH (s) + HCl (aq) NaCl (aq) +
H2O (l)
As explained before, Hess s Law states that the enthalpy change of reaction three (О”H3) should be
equal to the sum of the enthalpy changes of the first two reactions ( О”H1 + О”H2 ).
As seen at the equations, the solid NaOH dissociates into its ions, after that it is neutralized by HCl.

Only random errors were made.
The literature value for the enthalpy change of the last reaction which was provided by our teacher
is 97 kJ mol 1. Agreeing this value, our result can be considered accurate.
As told at the beginning of this lab report, our aim of this experiment was to test the validity of
Hess s law which suggests that the enthalpy change of a reaction must be equal to the sum of the
enthalpy changes of the other reactions that relate to the original reaction. Our result achieved from
this experiment is the simple proof of Hess s Law s validity.
Even though the result of an experiment is accurate and matches the literature value, it does not
mean that there were no mistakes made. As the difference of the percentage uncertainty and the
percentage error suggests there were random errors made. First of them was the heat energy lost to
the surrounding environment during the experiment process taking place. This caused the recorded
highest temperature to be smaller than the actual highest temperature that was meant to reach. This
could have been prevented by adding in more and perfect

tactics. He is out of touch with himself and his wife, because he does not know what he wants
out of his life. He is out of touch entirely with his world and hates his job, does not know his
daughter any more and despises his wife for how she has changed from the hippie girl he married
20 years previously. They do not talk about anything of importance, they do not talk about plans or

They are both confrontational and also avoiding of their feelings. Caroline is inflexible and

She is completely consumed with attaining the acknowledgment of her peers in her profession. She

Nursing Professional Portfolios Portfolios have been used to showcase the work of artists, fashion designers, models, photographers and architects, spanning several decades (M.Williams., K.Jordan., 2007) These career portfolios have been adopted in to the nursing profession where they serve as an augmentation but not a replacement of their curriculum vitae (Lettus, 2001). They have not only transcended beyond the traditional listing of basic information such as relevant past work experiences and positions held, educational institutions attended and achievements but provide additional information that resumes would have presented (M.J. Jone., 2007). A professional portfoliois a thoughtfully prepared and organised compilation of different types of professional information and evidence that illustrate an individual s record of continuing professional development activities, skills, experiences, knowledge, competencies, professional achievements and goals as well as their level of expertise that one has attained as a result of their experiences. (Andre Heartfield, 2011)The basic components of a professional portfolio include personal details, resume and documents such as certificates graduate transcripts, licensure, (Davis, 2015) professional organisation memberships, professional awards, annual performance appraisals, dates of promotions, recommendations from current or previous supervisors or employers, peers and others (Timmins Duffy, 2011).... • 4. Analysis of Characters in Ugly American by by Burdick and... The next character I will mention is Honorable Gilbert MacWhite, who replaced Ambassador Sears in Sarkhan. This character functioned in complete contrast to Sears. He understood the sensitivity of the US mission in Sarkhan and how vulnerable the Sarkhanese government was to potential communist influences. He also understood the communist threat and did not underestimate it. MacWhite s understandingof the operational environment was clear from the beginning and made constant efforts in understanding the people of Sarkhan. MacWhite arrived in Sarkhan well versed on the customs, language, and threats faced by the country; this aided him in everything that followed through his tour. Understanding the operational environment is critical in ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Finally, MacWhite understood the need for legitimacy across the country and this became very evident in his constant search for individuals who can provide a means for the Sarkhaneese to develop the country by themselves. An example that comes to mind from the story is when he talked to Atkins in order to develop a way for the people of Sarkhan to transfer water from the river, uphill, to the rice paddies. The ability he provided to ensure attainable resources were available to the common people legitimized the active concern of the USG towards the country as a whole. What I believe made the legitimate action in this case was not the machine which was not completed at this point but the legitimate concern of the Ambassador. As depicted in the above paragraphs, MacWhite displayed three Special Operation Imperatives in a clear manner: understanding the operational environment, anticipating long term effects, and ensuring legitimacy and credibility. I agree that other imperatives such as operating with and through others and ensuring long term sustainment could also be added to the list, but I wanted to provide a contrast to the actions of Sears and those of MacWhite. His proactive and constant search to understand the operational environment gave MacWhite the tools to better ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 5. How Baseball Survived the Great Depression Essays Baseball remains today one of America s most popular sports, and furthermore, baseball is one of America s most successful forms of entertainment. As a result, Baseball is an economic being of its own. However, the sustainability of any professional sport organization depends directly on its economic capabilities. For example, in Baseball, all revenue is a product of the fans reaction to ticket prices, advertisements, television contracts, etc. During the devastating Great Depressionin 1929, the fans of baseball experienced fiscal suffering. The appeal of baseball declined as more and more people were trying to make enough money to live. There was a significant drop in attention, attendance, and enjoyment. Although baseball s vitality... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Radio broadcasting contributed to the survival of baseball in two ways. First, radio broadcast kept people who could not afford tickets interested in the game. Second, radio broadcasting brought in new fans that lived far away or never could afford to attend games. Therefore, radio broadcasting was a popular and ingenious contribution to the survival of baseball during the great depression. In addition, the farm system was created and refined during the great depression. The farm system was a way to cut down the expensive sums of money spent on buying new players. Lauren Vorel, who is a baseball historian, describes the farm system by saying, The farm system allowed major league teams to develop ballplayers in the minor league teams and draft them up to the majors, instead of having to complete expensive trades with other major league teams for developed ball players. Because of the farm system, baseball clubs saved money while still having valuable players. The farm system was prosperous, and many teams began to have success from implementing the farm system. For example, the White Sox s team was composed of many players who came from their farm system. Because the White Sox did not trade or purchase players during this time, they saved a lot of money. There are many more examples of the farm system s success, and it is still used today. Therefore, the farm system was another ingenious tool that benefited ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 6. Analysis Of Madeleine Thien s Do Not Say We Have Nothing Canada is a nation that prides itself on acceptance, allowing anyone to do anything regardless of the person or dream. However, what happens to a person if this is not the case? If dreams are treated the exact opposite, looked down upon by everyone around them. The inevitable consequences of the denial of one s dreams is demonstrated in Do Not Say We Have Nothing by Madeleine Thien, where musicians and friends, Sparrow, Kai, and Zhuli, live in an era surrounded by people who despise what they do. Despite all three responding to the constant hostility in different ways, all three live miserable lives in the end. After this event, she questions if she truly is this horrible person everyone claims she is, asking herself Is it a crime to be myself? Is it a crime to disbelieve? (Thien 253) The consistent negative feedback from everyone causes her to question herself, leading her to conclude that she no longer deserves to live, resulting in her hanging herself not too long after. Despite being extremely gifted in music, she is discouraged from pursuing what she loves, due to the constant hate she receive. She no longer knows who she truly is anymore, and ultimately committing suicide to end the pain and suffering she feels inside, never allowing her to see the limits of her talent. • 7. What Makes A One Stop Guide On The Landscape A ONE STOP GUIDE ON HOW TO LANDSCAPE It is of utmost certainty that people nowadays admire beautiful and incredibly structured gardens and home fields and back yards. Not only is it applicable to home grounds and fields but it is also quite possible to perform landscaping techniques on any outstretched field that you may have in mind. To the uninitiated landscaping refers to any activity and process that directly alters and modifies natural, abstract and the living elements alike of an outstretched area of land. That said, landscaping is an artistic activity that requires highly trained expertise in horticulture. For living features, it requires modification of the surrounding flora and fauna of the area of land and such activities lead to growth and nurture of plants with the intention of creating a breathtaking environment within the intended area undergoing landscaping. This is what is commonly referred to gardening in simple terms. Secondly, when it comes to the natural features, this entails making changes to the land s terrain, elevation and the general landforms. Finally, the abstract features are the elements that relate to the weather and the lighting conditions of the area of land undergoing landscaping. The landscaping process need not be a humongous and an overwhelming exercise for it is easy to manipulate and implement. It basically involves two crucial steps i.e. landscape design and the actual landscape construction. The landscape design involves a series of ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Impact of Media on the People of Pakistan In the late 20th Century, mass media could be classified into eight mass media industries: books, newspapers, magazines, recordings, radio, movies, television and the internet. With the explosion of digital communication technology in the late 20th and early 21st centuries, the question of what forms of media should be classified as mass mediahas become more prominent. This transmittion of mass advertising to millions of people is a form of mass communication. Video games may also be evolving into a mass medium. Video games convey the same messages and ideologies to all their users users. Users sometimes share the experience with each other by playing online. Excluding the internet however, it is questionable whether players of video games are sharing a common experience when they play the game separately. It is possible to discuss in great detail the events of a video game with a friend you have never played with because the experience was identical to you both. The question is if this is then a form of mass communication. MMORPGS such as Runescape provide a common gaming experience to millions of users throughout the globe. It is arguable that the users are receiving the same message, i.e., the game is mass communicating the same messages to the various players. A life without the presence of mass media would seem improbable for many! Let s read about the pros and cons of mass media and its effect on a larger scale. Mass media enjoys a very prominent role in our lives. There are various effects of mass media on the society at large. • 9. The Ethics Of The Texas Government After examining the power one lobbyist can have in the Texas government, it is appropriate to look at the enormity of what a corporation who specializes in lobbying efforts is capable of. The company being examined is called Cassidy and Associates. Cassidy came into the forefront of Texas politics, when in 2006 Carol Strayhorn, the comptroller announced the state of Texaswould be suspending payments to a Washington lobbyingfirm hired by Rick Perry, called Cassidy and Associates (Zeller 2006). The reason this is a seemingly bold move by the comptroller is because of how powerful this company is. In 1999, Cassidy and Associates billed their clients 19.8 million dollars, making them the biggest grossing lobbying firm in the nation ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Another example of this is in New York City, where a hospital for special surgery, paid Cassidy 140,000 dollars and obtained a 1 million dollar grant from HRSA (Zeller 2006). This is what lobbyist companies are able to do they receive a sum from their customer and then in return try and give them a lot of government money. This affected Texas because not every time someone gives a lobbying group money are they guaranteed to receive anything in return. One of Cassidy s clients were the president at the University of Dallas, and what probably took place is that they did not get the federal funding at one of the universities in the state and now the accountant or comptroller begins to wonder why public universities are giving a lobbying group in Washington so much money and getting nothing back, so she pulls the plug on allowing them to receive any more money. Cassidy certainly has not shied away from looking shady with their business. In the nineties they hired as CEO a man named Marty Pusso and he was vice chairman of the house ways and means health subcommittee, which has jurisdiction over numerous healthcare issues and programs (Zeller 2006). Being the Vice Chairman as well as CEO of a lobbying company that in 1999 received 1.3 million dollars from 10 hospitals (Zeller 2006) seems to create a conflict of interest problem or in Pusso s case a solution. Summary Of The I Didn t A Christian Friend Essay Sitting outside on the paint chipped, front porch in the middle of a sweltering night, listening to my casually Christian friend, Cassie, tell a vaguely interesting story about her mother to another one of my casually Christian friends, Shelby, was the first time I realized I wasn t a Christian. And I don t really know if all this is true, she just rushed through the story over the phone a minute ago, but my mom said that the stoplights had been out for a couple hours and when she pulled up at the intersection and it was her turn to go, somebody cuts in front of her going the other direction. She says it would ve been a huge accident, but the light flashed red for a second, so she hit the brakes and missed the other car by a few feet, Cassie reported, wrapping up her story. Wow, Shelby paused for a second. Just another one of Gods miracles, she sighed unequivocally with an optimistic, spiritual air. I didn t let the verbal vomit register in my brain by merely not sanctioning it to enter in the first place. I never understood how someone can believe in miracles. Lack of historical records makes some historians question the association between the First Emperor and the construction of the wall. What is certain, however, is that if the First Emperor gave the orders to build the Great Wall, it was not built as we know it today. The walls would have been made of stones or earth, depending on what was more readily available. The philosophies of the time included Confucianism and Legalism, as simplified by modern scholar Arthur Waley in his book, Three Ways of Thought in Ancient China. Confucianism was considered bad and impractical, based on the idea that it was ruler based and hind sighted. The Legalists were considered good and practical because the administrations they set up were run by qualified men, used agriculture to stimulate the economy, and created clear laws. In fact, the First Emperor ordered the burning of several Confucius texts part of the Five Classics including the Book of Poetry and the Book of Documents. This was knows as the Burning of the Books. This burning also included other literature such as poetry, historical documents, and philosophical texts. This was done because the emperor felt threatened by those below him with something critical to say. No matter what the scientific definition is, the goal is to slow down and, eventually, completely break the continuous activity of the human mind. Mariam Emara is supporting meditation powerfully as she is an Arhati Yogi, pranic healer and meditation instructor she is trying to transfer her knowledge to others and to inspire people to start practicing meditation. Therefore the city s strategy is to dump the eight billion liters of raw sewage into the St Lawrence River [1]. In brief that scheme has several negative impacts on the river s ecosystem and the city should invest in alternative procedures. Dr. Grant Brow who is a Concordia University biologist that specializes in aquatic behavioral and chemical ecology, claims, The untreated effluent could cause harm to a number of aquatic species [2]. The fish rely on chemical cues to help it survive, such as finding food, shelter, detecting and avoiding predators. On the other hand, the city s spokesman Philippe Sabourin, says that the contamination is not a big concern due to the sheer size of the river and how quickly it flows at a rate of 6,000 to 7,000 cubic meters a second, compared to the flow rate of the wastewater, expected to be 13 cubic meters a second [2]. However, it would be devastating if the city proceeds with their plan since the chemical and bacteriological mixture of wastewater must be observed at all times to ensure public health. In wastewater there are oxygen consuming materials, which needs to be minimized to protect from low dissolved oxygen conditions since it can be harmful to aquatic species [4]. Many nutrients found in wastewater, such as nitrogen and phosphorus must be removed to prevent high level of nutrients, which can cause the ecosystem to have hypoxia and the increase of pollutants in the waterways [4]. It is regularly associated with the reaction it seeks from its audience; both emotional and physical. In cinema success is measured by terrifying chills, bloody deaths and the volume of the audiences scream. The appeal of horror narrative in literature, film and theatre lies in the pleasures it associates with fear, suspense and terror; no matter what it is trying to convey to the audience. The question for the stage though is how do we adapt iconic horror from screen to stage without the magic of high expensive technical effects? Horror on stage could be said to date back to the Ancient Greeks and their tales of incest, murder and revenge, only using the role of the messenger as narrator to the horrors that happened off stage. In modern times, however, we only need to look to Paris and the Théâtre du Grand Guignol, which presented explicit revenge tales from the late 1800s to the mid 1900s. The plays placed emphasis on ... Following the dropping of the atomic bombs at the end of World War Two, global consciousness began to slowly change due to the realisation that civilisation could be destroyed at the press of a button. Texts that are able to grasp these changes, depicting their immediate context while also reflecting on universal questions, possess enduring value. Waiting for Godot, the 1952 stage play by Samuel Beckett, challenged the idea of human purpose and also questioned the relevance of scripture and religious institutions. Beckett s opening also foreshadows the rest of the play, as the setting begins the continual challenge of the institutional idea of human purpose, as it accentuates the lack of meaning an idea also extended by the characters. • 22. Plato And St. Augustine Plato suggested that values such as justice and right conduct are absolute and beyond the realm of subjective viewpoints. One of his arguments against moral relativism is that it is logically unsound. Plato proposed a multi layered existence. There is the world of sensory perception, which includes the physical realities of existence. Platoargued for a higher level of being that he understood as a world of forms, ideas or concepts. Plato argued that conduct comes from a reference to this world of forms. By this argument, there is an eternal idea or form of each moral principle, such as justice, piety or truth. This essay will discuss the ethics of Plato, Socrates and St. Augustine According to Plato, evil is simply the result of ignorance. He believed that all people are attempting to do what they understand as good. He believes there are three parts of the soul. There is a rational and moral part of the soul that loves truth, justice and good. There is a spirited part of the soul that loves worldly achievement, riches and victory. Lastly, there is an appetitive part of the soul that craves food and carnal gratification. Plato argued that the rational part of the soul should rightly be in charge, as it is most in tune with moral value. Socrates believed that no one does wrong voluntarily. When selecting the rootstock make sure it is healthy and strong and less than 7 years old but at least as tall as 30cm. Make sure bud is not a flower bud. 2.The next step is to prepare the rootstock for the budwood. The best way to do this is to cut a T shape about 20cm above the ground. Vertical cut should be 40 50mm and horizontal cut should be 25mm. This will allow room for budwood. If the rootstock is not being used right away cover the cut with damp towel. 3.The next step is cutting the budwood off your desired citrus plant. When doing this makes sure you use a clean and sharp knife. When cutting the bud off make sure you cut a 3cm sliver of bark with the bud in the centre of it. The same with the rootstock if the budwood isn t being used straight away cover in a damp towel. 4.The next step is actually putting the budwood in the t shape incision made in the rootstock. You need to fold back the flaps made by the incision in the rootstock and place the budwood inside. Make sure the bud is facing in the correct position, so when it grows it grows upward. The way Stephen Crane describes Henry s sentiments is fully expressed and thoroughly articulated, allowing the reader to feel as if they were capable of identifying with Fleming himself, heedless of any unfamiliarity. • 38. Fuzzy Thinking Analysis In IT Foundations, I was assigned by Mrs. Baumaster to watch the video Fuzzy Thinking. The speaker in this video is an Astrophysicist by the name of Neil deGrasse Tyson. In the video, Fuzzy Thinking he talked about many things like what was wrong with the misspellings of the word Cat and about his choice between hiring two workers. The video did not seem very interesting at first but as I watched it, the video got more and more interesting. Tyson is a very good presenter in the video because he made it interesting and fun to listen to him. All in all, this video was a great way to get his message out on how people think. I answered 5 questions that Mrs. Baumaster asked about the video Fuzzy Thinking. Fuzzy Thinking is when people are not thinking straight. I know this is correct because right after he said fuzzy thinking he told the audience the definition of it. The misspelling of the word cat is a very complex question. One misspelling is spelled as XQT and the other is spelled as KAT but they are considered equally as wrong even though one sounds like cat and the other does not. Tyson s is an astrophysicist which is similar to being an astronomer. Astrophysicists study the physics of space. I think this is a very cool job and it would also be very interesting as well as fun. According to a study by Roeser et al (2008), identity representations and the necessary balance between these identities are what determine the success of girls by helping them have a healthy and successful school life or well being. These identities either build social approval and self esteem from adults or athletic competence and acceptance from peers. The main challenge, however, is the balance between adult and peer oriented identities. For example, deciding whether to be a good student to parents or a cool friend to peers. The study argues that girls have difficulties academically and otherwise because they are unable to establish a balance between their identities easily. • 45. The Issue Of Taxation Of The United States Essay Benjamin Franklin once said, in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death and taxes. Taxation has always been a hot button issue in the United States, as it was one of the primary reasons the United States revolted from the British. The media have once again turned its attention to the issue of taxation, but primarily on the increasing of taxes solely on upper class citizens. The United Statescurrently employs a progressive taxrate, which means that the upper class already is liable for a higher percentage of taxes. During the current presidential campaign, each of the candidates has their own unique idea of tax reform. Some of the candidates tax plans cut taxes for all through the change to a flat tax rate, while other plans do quite the contrary and raise taxes for all. The candidates who are favoring the increase of taxes on the wealthy are attempting to enact laws, which increase funding for government programs, attempt to redistribute the wealth to the lower class, and eliminate the debt of the United States. However, the candidates who are attempting to enact a flat tax rate are attempting to eliminate outdated government programs and to help to increase jobs. A higher tax rate on the wealthy through a progressive tax system, at a cursory glance, may appear to be beneficial, however, I am arguing to show the negative effects not only for the wealthy but the United States economy as a whole. Aesthetics What is aesthetics? Aesthetics is a set of principles concerned with the nature and appreciation of beauty, especially in art. Many stated that photo as an art made by a camera, but if photo is an objective rendering of what the camera sees and then say the photographer is merely a machine operator, how can you say that the camerawork as an artwork if the operator knows nothing about aesthetics value? Meaning here, all photographers need to know and learn what is aesthetics value in order to not just be a machine operator but to be someone who knows all the principles, basic understanding of what is camerawork, and good in interpreting as well as applying aesthetics principle. Photography was invented during the time when art academies and public intellectuals were taught a hands on theories and technique and at the same time strengthening the field of fine arts. The Ice Age From 2002 to 2016, the Ice Age movie franchise, produced by Blue Sky Studios, has capitalized on events during the Pleistocene Epoch period when massive warming occurred in the earth. Even though these movies are entertaining, they depict a view of how wildlife, plant life, and the earth s environment drastically changed, albeit for the worse. For the most part, the release of carbon dioxideis the causal effect of the death and destruction of the planet as it was known at that time. There has been an ongoing debate as to the direct reason for the atmosphere s chemical composition, including the release of harmful gases. The article, Melting of massive ice lid resulted in huge release of carbon dioxide at the end of the Ice Age, written by Jenny Roberts (www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2016/01/160104163203.htm), suggests the melting of sea ice caused the release of large amounts of carbon dioxide rather than the... Hess s law suggests that the enthalpy change of a reaction must be equal to the sum of the enthalpy changes of the related reactions which lead to the original reactions. The following are the reactions at the lab; 1) NaOH ( s) NaOH (aq) 2) NaOH (aq) + HCl (aq) NaCl (aq) + H2O (l) 3) NaOH (s) + HCl (aq) NaCl (aq) + H2O (l) As explained before, Hess s Law states that the enthalpy change of reaction three (О”H3) should be equal to the sum of the enthalpy changes of the first two reactions ( О”H1 + О”H2 ). The literature value for the enthalpy change of the last reaction which was provided by our teacher is 97 kJ mol 1. Agreeing this value, our result can be considered accurate. Our result achieved from this experiment is the simple proof of Hess s Law s validity. Even though the result of an experiment is accurate and matches the literature value, it does not mean that there were no mistakes made. As the difference of the percentage uncertainty and the percentage error suggests there were random errors made. First of them was the heat energy lost to the surrounding environment during the experiment process taking place. This caused the recorded highest temperature to be smaller than the actual highest temperature that was meant to reach. This could have been prevented by adding in more and perfect ...
