Writing A Concert Report
Instructors in introductory music courses often require students to write one or more concert reports during a semester. Here are some guidelines for the preparation of such an assignment: first, a few suggestions on working with your own notes; second, points to consider for the content of your report; third, some information about usages or conventions in writing about music; and finally, an example of a concert report.
Transforming Your Notes into a Report
You should plan to expand your notes into a complete report very soon after the concert--the same evening or during the next day or so.
It is often helpful to begin with an outline and then to write a rough draft. (If your instructor hands out a printed form for concert reports, that will serve as the outline.) Next, polish and edit your draft to produce the final version. Remember to check your grammar and the spellings of names (especially foreign names) and musical terms.
Below are recommendations for the actual content of your report--what to write. Following that, there is a section on vocabulary and usages, or conventions, involved in referring to musical works--that is, how to write about music.
What to Write: The Content of a Report
The Concert as a Whole You should begin your report with a brief description of the concert attended, including the name and type of the performing group or soloists, the place, the date and time, and the music you heard.
You will also want to note whether the performers were attempting a historically "authentic" program. For example, in music by Johann Sebastian Bach, was a harpsichord (rather than a piano) used? For a symphony by Haydn or Mozart, was the size of the orchestra reduced? Did the performers use old instruments, or reconstructions of old instruments?
Then, you may want to describe your general reaction to the concert. Did you enjoy it? Did this event make you feel like going to other concerts in the near future?
Following this introduction, the paper might focus on the pieces you enjoyed most and your reaction to the performances.
Individual Compositions In discussing individual compositions, you will probably want to cover some of the following points:
· Musical styles. How did the composition correspond to what you have learned about the stylistic period in which it was composed--baroque, classical, etc.? Your appreciation of a work is often enhanced when you recognize its musical style.
· Musical genres and forms. What was the genre of the piece--symphony, concerto, tone poem, string quartet, étude, etc.? What musical forms were employed--theme and variations, sonata form, ABA, etc.? If you are reporting on an opera, you might note arias, recitatives, ensembles, choruses, etc.
· Program music. Was the composition program music--that is, was it inspired by a text, story, or place? If so, how did the music reflect the program?
· Emotions, images, and ideas. Did the composition evoke in you speci.

Beethoven is the only composer to whom an entire chapter in our textbook is dedicated. Consequently, from a stylistic point of view we can conclude that: there is music before Beethoven, Beethoven’s music, and music after Beethoven. In Discussion 8 the class considered the Classical and the Romantic style traits found in all four movements of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Which parts of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony are Classically derived and which parts are Romantically inspired? EXTRA CREDIT: Submit additional concert reports. Each report can earn up to 150 points. A
student may submit 1 extra credit concert report per term.
Attend a live (no podcasts, etc) western classical music performance and write a typed report. Make
sure to review all instructions prior to attending a performance.
Concert Guidelines:
1. The level of the performance must be college-age performers or professional—no middle/high
school/etc. performances.
2. The performance must be of western art music, similar to the genres discussed in text chapters
assigned in the syllabus—orchestra, chamber music, solo instrumental performances, opera,
choir, ballet, musicals, etc. If you have doubts about a concert qualifying as “western art”
music, e-mail the professor before attending.
3. You must attend the entire performance- no late arrivals or early departures.
4. The concert must be during the term that you are currently taking this class and must be in the
greater Los Angeles area unless you have specifically spoken to the instructor about an ‘out-
of-town’ concert.
Report:
Format: 2-4 pages, typed, double-spaced on 8.5 x 11 paper with one-inch margins. Report should
include a title, a header with your name and the date, and page numbers.
Writing Voice and style: Your colleagues taking this class should be able to read the report and gain a
clear concept of your experience. You will not need to define the terminology we have covered in
class, but you do need to keep in mind that your audience will not HEAR this concert and will rely on
a sense of the experience solely from your descriptions. This paper should have an academic style-
formal, with no contractions used.
Content: The report is YOUR observations of the concert. A successful report will address these
categories:
1. Performance setting and types of music: Give the date, place, and name(s) of groups
performing. Briefly describe the performance setting- for example, you might include your
observations on the ambiance of the performance space, performers’ attire dress, audience’s
attire, etc. and how it affected your concert-going experience. Which types/genres of music
were performed (symphony, opera, solo, chamber, etc). What pieces did you hear, who were
the composers, and what were historical eras of these pieces?
2. The main body of your report should focus on accurately and interestingly applying the
knowledge gained in this class to the specific music you heard at the concert. Narrow your
focus to two movements or short pieces from your concert and do one of the following:
a. Choose two movements or short pieces from the program and contrast/compare these
works with references to specific musical elements.
b. Choose two movements of short pieces and give an overview of their characters- what
types of moods or feelings they evoked with references to specific musical el.

You may choose a different concert video to watch, but be sure you include the URL of the concert you chose in your critique, or scan the program of the live concert you attended and attach it. The musical style of the concert should include at least one of the genres studied in this course.

Writing A Concert Report
Instructors in introductory music courses often require students to write one or more concert reports during a semester. Here are some guidelines for the preparation of such an assignment: first, a few suggestions on working with your own notes; second, points to consider for the content of your report; third, some information about usages or conventions in writing about music; and finally, an example of a concert report.
Transforming Your Notes into a Report
You should plan to expand your notes into a complete report very soon after the concert--the same evening or during the next day or so.
It is often helpful to begin with an outline and then to write a rough draft. (If your instructor hands out a printed form for concert reports, that will serve as the outline.) Next, polish and edit your draft to produce the final version. Remember to check your grammar and the spellings of names (especially foreign names) and musical terms.
Below are recommendations for the actual content of your report--what to write. Following that, there is a section on vocabulary and usages, or conventions, involved in referring to musical works--that is, how to write about music.
What to Write: The Content of a Report
The Concert as a Whole You should begin your report with a brief description of the concert attended, including the name and type of the performing group or soloists, the place, the date and time, and the music you heard.
You will also want to note whether the performers were attempting a historically "authentic" program. For example, in music by Johann Sebastian Bach, was a harpsichord (rather than a piano) used? For a symphony by Haydn or Mozart, was the size of the orchestra reduced? Did the performers use old instruments, or reconstructions of old instruments?
Then, you may want to describe your general reaction to the concert. Did you enjoy it? Did this event make you feel like going to other concerts in the near future?
Following this introduction, the paper might focus on the pieces you enjoyed most and your reaction to the performances.
Individual Compositions In discussing individual compositions, you will probably want to cover some of the following points:
· Musical styles. How did the composition correspond to what you have learned about the stylistic period in which it was composed--baroque, classical, etc.? Your appreciation of a work is often enhanced when you recognize its musical style.
· Musical genres and forms. What was the genre of the piece--symphony, concerto, tone poem, string quartet, étude, etc.? What musical forms were employed--theme and variations, sonata form, ABA, etc.? If you are reporting on an opera, you might note arias, recitatives, ensembles, choruses, etc.
· Program music. Was the composition program music--that is, was it inspired by a text, story, or place? If so, how did the music reflect the program?

Beethoven is the only composer to whom an entire chapter in our textbook is dedicated. Consequently, from a stylistic point of view we can conclude that: there is music before Beethoven, Beethoven’s music, and music after Beethoven. In Discussion 8 the class considered the Classical and the Romantic style traits found in all four movements of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Which parts of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony are Classically derived and which parts are Romantically inspired? EXTRA CREDIT: Submit additional concert reports. Each report can earn up to 150 points. A
student may submit 1 extra credit concert report per term.
Attend a live (no podcasts, etc) western classical music performance and write a typed report. Make
sure to review all instructions prior to attending a performance.
Concert Guidelines:
1. The level of the performance must be college-age performers or professional—no middle/high
school/etc. performances.
2. The performance must be of western art music, similar to the genres discussed in text chapters
assigned in the syllabus—orchestra, chamber music, solo instrumental performances, opera,
choir, ballet, musicals, etc. If you have doubts about a concert qualifying as “western art”
music, e-mail the professor before attending.
3. You must attend the entire performance- no late arrivals or early departures.
4. The concert must be during the term that you are currently taking this class and must be in the
greater Los Angeles area unless you have specifically spoken to the instructor about an ‘out-
of-town’ concert.
Report:
Format: 2-4 pages, typed, double-spaced on 8.5 x 11 paper with one-inch margins. Report should
include a title, a header with your name and the date, and page numbers.
Writing Voice and style: Your colleagues taking this class should be able to read the report and gain a
clear concept of your experience. You will not need to define the terminology we have covered in
class, but you do need to keep in mind that your audience will not HEAR this concert and will rely on

The Project Paper focuses on a suggested topic related to art, architecture, history, music, or literature. The project will reflect your views and interpretation of the topic. Evidence-based practice is an approach to health care where health care professionals use the best evidence possible or the most appropriate information available to make their clinical decisions. Research studies are gathered from the literature and assessed so that decisions about application can be done so with as much insight as possible. Not all research is able to be taken into the clinical practice that is why assessing the literature and determining if it is possible to carry out in a safe and effective manner is important. The steps that make up the evidence-based practice is first to ask a question which pertains to your clinical practice, then search for research and literature that will help solve your question. Third step is to evaluate the evidence and determine if it can be used safely and effectively in your clinical practice, then you must apply the information to your clinical experience and with your patient’s values. Finally, you must evaluate the outcome and determine if the desired effect is being reached. (LoBiondo-Wood, 2014)
The nursing process is drilled into our education as nurses and with good reason. The nursing process is used countless times throughout our practice. I was taught the acronym ADPIE which stands for assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. When assessing it is important to gather as much information on the patient whether it be subjective or objective findings. After we make a nursing diagnosis based on our assessment and then we plan on how to best care for our patient, and what our goals and their goals are for their care. Once the plan is made and the patient consents to the care plan then we can implement the plan. After we implement, we evaluate whether our goals and the patient’s goals are being reached. If not, we begin the nursing process all over again. (LoBiondo-Wood, 2014) In my own practice I use the nursing practice on every patient and even do it multiple times. When a patient enters the emergency room they are immediately being assessed and then once the physical and interview assessments are done the nurse creates a nursing diagnosis. The nurse creates a care plan that is based on evidence-based practice and goes over it with patient to gain consent.
The difference between these two processes is how they begin. The nursing process begins by gathering as much information as possible to then give a nursing diagnosis. While evidence-based practice begins by posing a question first and then gathering as much information as possible. They do have similarities especially when it comes to the end of the processes. Evaluating whether the care plan is working in the nursing process or whether the research and literature brought out a successful new take on the clinical practice. They both need to make the outcomes are as expected and if they are not it is back to the beginning of the process.

Patient falls are considered one of the leading adverse events occurring in acute care settings such as hospitals and nursing homes, with the detrimental impact to the patient ranging from mild to severe bruising, fractures, trauma, and even death (de Medeiros Araújo et al., 2017). Falls are common phenomena in older adults, with roughly one out of three people age 65 years and older who suffers from at least one fall per year due to multiple factors including environmental, social, and physiological factors either alone or in conjunction (Gygax Spicer, 2017). The etiology is that patients are attempting to get out of bed without assistance from nursing staff. Several of the causative factors include illness, impulsiveness, urgency, medications, or being in an unfamiliar environment. Lastly, there has been an increase in the amount of turnover in staffing, thus reducing the amount of available nursing staff in the practice setting.

Abstract
Neurofeedback (NF) is gaining recognition as an evidence-based intervention grounded
in learning theory, and 19-channel z-score neurofeedback (19ZNF) is a new NF model.
Peer-reviewed literature is lacking regarding empirical-based evaluation of 19ZNF. The
purpose of this quantitative research study was to evaluate the efficacy of 19ZNF, in a
clinical setting, using archival data from a Southwest NF practice, with a retrospective
one-group pretest-posttest design. Each of the outcome measures framed a group such
that 19ZNF was evaluated, as it relates to the particular neuropsychological constructs of
attention (n = 10), behavior (n = 14), executive function (n = 12), as well as
electrocortical functioning (n = 21). The research questions asked if 19ZNF improves
these constructs. One-tailed t tests performed, compared pre-post scores for included
clinical assessment scales, and selected quantitative electroencephalographic (QEEG)
metrics. For all pre-post comparisons, the direction of change was in the predicted
direction. Moreover, for all outcome measures, the group means were beyond the
clinically significant threshold before 19ZNF, and no longer clinically significant after
19ZNF. All differences were statistically significant, with results ranging from p = .000
to p = .008; and effect sizes ranging from 1.29 to 3.42. Results suggest 19ZNF improved
attention, behavior, executive function, and electrocortical function. This study provides
beginning evidence of 19ZNF’s efficacy, adds to what is known about 19ZNF, and offers
an innovative approach for using QEEG metrics as outcome measures. These results may
lead to a greater acceptance of 19ZNF, as well as foster needed additional scientific
research.

Mrs. J. is a 63-year-old married woman who has a history of hypertension, chronic heart failure, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). Despite requiring 2L of oxygen/nasal cannula at home during activity, she continues to smoke two packs of cigarettes a day and has done so for 40 years. Three days ago, she had sudden onset of flu-like symptoms including fever, productive cough, nausea, and malaise. Over the past 3 days, she has been unable to perform ADLs and has required assistance in walking short distances. She has not taken her antihypertensive medications or medications to control her heart failure for 3 days. Today, she has been admitted to the hospital ICU with acute decompensated heart failure and acute exacerbation of COPD.
Subjective Data
1. Is very anxious and asks whether she is going to die.
2. Denies pain but says she feels like she cannot get enough air.
3. Says her heart feels like it is "running away."
4. Reports that she is exhausted and cannot eat or drink by herself.
Objective Data
1. Height 175 cm; Weight 95.5kg.
2. Vital signs: T 37.6C, HR 118 and irregular, RR 34, BP 90/58.
3. Cardiovascular: Distant S1, S2, S3 present; PMI at sixth ICS and faint: all peripheral pulses are 1+; bilateral jugular vein distention; initial cardiac monitoring indicates a ventricular rate of 132 and atrial fibrillation.
4. Respiratory: Pulmonary crackles; decreased breath sounds right lower lobe; coughing frothy blood-tinged sputum; SpO2 82%.
5. Gastrointestinal: BS present: hepatomegaly 4cm below costal margin.
Intervention
The following medications administered through drug therapy control her symptoms:
1. IV furosemide (Lasix)
2. Enalapril (Vasotec)
3. Metoprolol (Lopressor)
4. IV morphine sulphate (Morphine)
5. Inhaled short-acting bronchodilator (ProAir HFA)
6. Inhaled corticosteroid (Flovent HFA)
7. Oxygen delivered at 2L/ NC
