It seemed that most of the controversy in the water crisis was either about water
rights issues or about the current water levels compared to the fish population, which
in turn had effects on the endangered species of this area. Very rarely did anyone
speak about the Native American s wants or needs concerning the Klamath River
water crisis. The Natives feel that they should have some say about what decisions
are going to be made concerning the area since they have been in the Klamath are
longer than any other group.
As little as the Native Americans were discussed, the needs of the commercial
fisherman were even less than them. I don t think more than one person out of all
the guest lecturers and people we heard from on our class trip had discussed any of

his current position, physically and socially, much like how the caged bird of

Alice Malsenior Walker was born on February 9, 1944, in the town of Ward Chapel

During the beginning of WWII, there were a lot of Japanese Canadians living in
Canada, all of which were either second generation Canadians, Japanese people who
had taken Canadian citizenship or those who were still Japanese nationals. These
Japanese Canadians mainly inhabited British Columbia and smaller villages in the
coastal regions of the west coast. Prior to their internment, Japanese Canadians
suffered great prejudice, discrimination and racism. White people were fearful that
they would lose their dominance due to competition in industries such as fishing,
farming, markets and even in education. The Canadian Government created laws
stating that Japanese Canadians were not allowed to vote, they also had fishing and
farming permits denied, which were supposed to motivate them to move back to
Japan. On top of that, White people also feared that Japan would attempt to expand

existed at the time. On December 7th, 1941, Japanese Air Forces attacked the US
