Enterprise Social Media (ESM) platforms are being widely adopted by companies to enable collaboration, communication, and knowledge sharing among employees. ESM functions similarly to social media like Facebook but is private to each organization. While ESM provides benefits, companies face challenges in implementing it effectively and overcoming barriers to employee adoption. Over the next decade, most work communication will likely shift to ESM platforms as they make remote and global collaboration easier. However, businesses must understand what drives ESM usage to ensure critical mass and continuity of users on the platforms in order to maximize the benefits of ESM on social interaction in the workplace.
